This is in my humble opinion one of the most visually stunning sequences in SciFi history. Admittedly, there is some dang gorgeous stuff in BSG and Stargate SG-1, but this is still one of my fav pieces and one of the most beautiful. Kudoes to the makers and kudoes to you for providing this. Thank you!
Damn, 14 years later and this scene still slaps, one of the greatest moments in sci-fi despite its dated CGI, which still somehow holds up well. Now, lets hope we get to see our Atlantis once againon screens in the future now that Amazon has rights for Stargate.
Well, having watched every new episode of Doctor Who along with a few other popular sci-fi shows in the two years since my last comment, I can say definitively that this is still the most epic moment in sci-fi TV history.
I don't watch a whole lot of sci-fi (besides this series, of course), but I think it's safe to say that this is one of the most epic moments of the entire genre.
I agree with you, be glad that a fine scifi series is still on. The Star Trek fans have a hard time right now, and can only pray right now for a new series. Too had they cancelled Enterprise it was a very fien series. I looking forward to see SGU (it will finally be be airing here in February :-) )
i would assume given how fast the city needed to rise the star drive was the fastest way to get it up. i am not sure if it normally uses the star drive to rise up tho since the only other time we see it rise up was during the replicator attack on the city
@xsonicsd And about the SGA will see.. ;-), Announced for this and yes suppose to be finished by now. Well i think it will be released after SGU marked its end. :-) We waited so long for a continuation, even if its the last movie, it would the best what came out since SGA got cancelled and SGU replaced it... Anyways thanks for your comment... :-)
@AtarahDerek Hi thanks for your comment. :-) And yes (lol imagining it happend in the pilot ...), but there are alot more of this moments in this series of course same goes for SG-1.
I can only assume that the shield did collapse on the way up. If it hadn't the buildings would never have touched water and it would have been like a ball coming out of the water.
SGU season 2 though was good. If season 1 was better it would have kept a larger fan base and would have allowed for both SGU and the SGA film trilogy to continue. Probably would have gotten another SG1 film too had it gene a success. I do hope though MGM are seriousabour revieiwing the SG brand again now. Making a new spin off that connects to SG1, SGA and SGU would be brilliant
@xsonicsd The downfall was cancelling the story write in the middle of the main plot (fight against wrath) and replace it in SGU.. The movies are (obviously) no great way to finish this, but better than nothing (as can be seen in the SG1 movies), but at least to (try) to finish the plot somehow and answer some missing question (bad of course if it start other questions xD) And about the game, lol who cares, actually good if it was cancelled, i neighter know about it nor i would have cared. xD
@f1fana1 Well yes to give the show a start, after all its in the Stargate Universe, a spinoff, which the best to make connections to the other series, but it has to develop its own story, and if it was like that well thats good, esp. for SG1 that they keep up their way. And downfall nope, i don't think so... OK the "Michael"-character was "interesting" but it started a good abse for other stories (esp. the effects of the disease he caused or the eps. about his labatories, esp. the testsubjects)
@f1fana1 Well did already, its officially cancelled. So when season 2 is finished its done. :-) And at least SGA is continued by a movie, which will be shown this year hopefully.. ^o^ Can check here: h t t p : / / w w w .imdb.com/title/tt1288405/
Because it looks cooler. Sometimes the Rule of Cool just has to override the series' logic to make a scene really damn rad. This is one of those times.
@LlansleyNinja141 Hi there, well if you care about the story should start with Stargate - The Movie (1994), and the continue with SG-1. You would spoil you exp. if you pick out eps. out of order... But if you don't care can also start with SGA, avery good eps. is Rising, well this clip is from it :D And i would skip SGU, but might wanna watch a few eps. to get the idea why, unless you are a fan of BSG & Lost and like a perfect mix of it, the go for SGU...
@f1fana1 Well thats PoV, in my opinion its simply a mix of BSG + Lost, and some soap adds to get mainstream audience to the show (not only the hardcre fanbase). And afaik the scores for SGA were great when they cancelled it, so the only did it because they wanted to hop on the success of both other shows, esp. BSG because that way of making a SciFi show was refreshing and successful. Its not my taste but it deserves its place and esp. ebtter than the org. crap...
@britfrenir If you mean SGA, thats a shame.... :-( But if you mean SGU, well be relieved as you won't miss too much. It's a waste of time for fans who like the old series and don't want to see a BSG clone... ;-) I suppose even BSG fans might be disappointed and hell why should they watch a clone if the can enjoy the original... :-D
@22cevans Heh yeah, esp. as theres a new SGA movie coming, up (the new Star Trek movie was a huge disappointment, but well some fans might say that at least something is shown). Well for me was SGU also a very disappointing, a mix of Lost + a clone of BSG. At least they continue the old series with movies, but i still can't believe that they cancelled SGA for SGU. (i suppose thwanted to reach a wider audience, not only the scifi fans but others), at least the continue SGA with a movie as well..
Well today its official, SGU is cancelled. Hopefully if the come up with a new series it will be in the old style of the series, well the way it has to be. :-) h t t p: / / w w w .deadline.com/2010/12/syfy-cancels-stargate-universe/
Loved this show loved this scene but reality? naah you mean to tell me for a city covered in glass to be under water for hundreds/thousands of years, the window were crystal clear, no barnacles, no aquatic plantlife all over the thing. So it came out like someone had just made it or powerwashed it ha ha ha ha

right in the feels... I miss SG-1 and SGA
THE CITY NEED A ANCIENT,,,LIKE THE CITY COMPUTER

so long ago ... and still one of favourite scenes ever!
Can you just IMAGINE if we'd been able to see this on a movie screen! Wow!!
Thx, glad you liked it... :-D
I agree with you, be glad that a fine scifi series is still on. The Star Trek fans have a hard time right now, and can only pray right now for a new series. Too had they cancelled Enterprise it was a very fien series. I looking forward to see SGU (it will finally be be airing here in February :-) )
duono, you have said everything that can be said about this clip. The bog mindles! Woof.
Can only agree with you and thanks for your comment :-D
What was that flash at the bottom of the city? The engines firing?
Yes
i would assume given how fast the city needed to rise the star drive was the fastest way to get it up. i am not sure if it normally uses the star drive to rise up tho since the only other time we see it rise up was during the replicator attack on the city
wow. that was incredible.
you'd seriously think it was the real thing!
@xsonicsd
And about the SGA will see.. ;-), Announced for this and yes suppose to be finished by now. Well i think it will be released after SGU marked its end. :-)

Nice scene!
@AtarahDerek
Hi thanks for your comment. :-)
And yes (lol imagining it happend in the pilot ...), but there are alot more of this moments in this series of course same goes for SG-1.
@22cevans That was the city releasing itself from the mechanism that was holding it to the ocean bottom, not the engines.
Hi there!
Stargate SG-1. And of course the movie that started all. ;-)
when I saw this City Rise From the ocean I was Like Marry Mother of God Lord have Mercy
Jo was mir an der szene so gefällt is die spürbare Intensität :-D
(leider etwas schlechte Quali...)
I can only assume that the shield did collapse on the way up. If it hadn't the buildings would never have touched water and it would have been like a ball coming out of the water.
I agree. Season 5 was still on the disappointing end but a season six would have been far more palatable than SGU season 1
SGU season 2 though was good. If season 1 was better it would have kept a larger fan base and would have allowed for both SGU and the SGA film trilogy to continue. Most people have a hard time finishing SGA season 2-3 and an even harder time finishing SGU season 1.
No the shield was restrained omni laterally around the buildings as a reduced power setting.
@f1fana1

What was disappointing for you?
Could have been a lot worse, as series who are already planned to be canceled usually take. :)
Because it looks cooler. Sometimes the Rule of Cool just has to override the series' logic to make a scene really damn rad. This is one of those times.
@LlansleyNinja141 I saw all of SG1 and SGA before watching the movie... lol
if you only knew of the symbolism used here. it would stand you on your ear
+Pete Deiler People from Atlantis are a Breakaway Civilization. They have joined the S.S.P. Alliance. Long ago they were deceived by the Annunaki.

because the Shield has failed and the city was rising as a failsafe thats why only a few sections got flooded
@xsonicsd Well, than its a good thing that I'm a Star Trek fan and a Stargate fan
Sheild smeald thank you beñ
PLEASE GIVE ME OLL THE EPISODE
Wonder who is a bigger villian the wraith or the ori? 😨😋😷

What came before this series?
lol, 3:02 it must suck to be on the shoreline
Hi
hahaha, yeah the same goes for me :-)
Major Sheppard looks like a younger version of Han Solo
@22cevans
Heh yeah, esp. as theres a new SGA movie coming, up (the new Star Trek movie was a huge disappointment, but well some fans might say that at least something is shown). As the tsunami you see at 3:00 wipes out all the settlements on land.
SGU was an awfuly slow start...finished it's last season so much better but with just as many plot problems.
Well today its official, SGU is cancelled. Hopefully if the come up with a new series it will be in the old style of the series, well the way it has to be. :-)

it was protected by the shield for those many years?
