- Learn the meaning behind the 2009 short film, Ring of Gundam. I hope you enjoy this and I look forward to make more for this series, although hopefully with a better format.
If I did not create an update video by this point, I have an announcement. I will be uploading a video a week ever Wednesday at 8:00 PM (EST). I hope to have that schedule follow through, although I will start getting busy as my next college semester begins in a month.
As for a hint on what I pretty much want to do next, lets just say one is Water World meets Ender's Game, the other has to do with a blue mobile suit with red eyes.

Brodie Crain Not really, someone said that they just saw it as a sort of happy ending for all the characters in Gundam. It hasn't literally been confirmed as the afterlife that's still just a fan theory, just one with support from someone who worked on it.

i believe the lack of new types later in the uc timeline like reqongusta is because they all accended to a higher plain like the ancients in stargate.
Or everyone is capable but none left the earth long enough to develop the ability see past to future to see new type action in G Reco.
Or perhaps humanity did evolve over time and got some of the powers. This explains use of Newtype weapons and seeming psycommu.
The Gundam here reminds me of the G-3 to an extent. Aside from that, Ring Of Gundam looks like a decent short film with a rather important message to tell regarding the future.
Gshadow007 I mostly just see it as the first original color for the Gundam (Before producers made him make it more colorful), as it was just purely grayish white, he eventually made the G3 to be similar though added the purple.
But this one seems more advanced than usual G3 tho. Noticed the ms outperformed those future mobile suits bloody fast, his shoulders has different design than typical RX 78 and has silver joints too!
I enjoyed this explanation. I really wish the story of Ring could be further explained. As i wrote that, I discovered this. Someone got some inside info on the short film back in 2011. Here it is:
This story borders on the Universal Century.
The Earth Federation Forces which was eradicated in the ancient times is reborn, having revived primary industries from development to construction. Through the Earth’s natural environment and solar energy, they were gradually able to focus on military forces.
The military forces were maintained because an invasion from “EX”, the last space colony full of war criminals, was foreseen.
And another reason why was a battle for the ring colony.
The foundation of the ring colony was bedded with nanorobots and over these several hundreds of years; it grew into a ring shape more than five-hundred kilometers in diameter. These were the historic ruins of the Universal Century and this monolith was no match for past space colonies.
During such times, a “beauty memory”, that which was a symbol for all of mankind’s memories during the last century, was discovered on a mountain on Earth. It was protected by an iron-like rock that could not be opened on Earth.
Captain Glenn and AG of the “Skull Unit” venture into geosynchronous orbit via a space elevator to where the battleship “Tatsu no Otoshiko” (Seahorse) is moored. They rush toward the ring colony because he heard from the memory about the “Legacy of Amuro”.
The stationed troops of the AX had already entered and the ring colony was included in the restoration of the “Legacy of Amuro.” Captain Glenn and the others of the “Skull Unit” take off from the “Seahorse” and infiltrate the colony. Although they encounter the legacy of Amuro, When AG tries to hijack the First Gundam when he sees it as it is, one of EX’s lifeguards, Yuria, tries to stop him.
However, the two board the operational Gundam and exterminate Glenn’s “Skull Force” and return to the ship. AG was a spy dispatched from the EX. He slipped into the Earth Federation Forces in order to search for the “beauty memory”.
The memory, housed on the “Seahorse”, responded to the Gundam. The mass of excavated rock was the memory. It was able to search for itself with the data resonating within the Gundam. When seeing the behavior of the rocks and the Gundam, the mobile suits of the “Skull Unit” had no choice but to watch.
When the rock the Gundam touched was broken, a memory capsule appeared, in it the form of a sleeping “beauty memory.” And, she spoke.
“Man can someday link with the legacy of Amuro and send all of Earth’s memories to the new Earth.” However, the “Beauty Memories” were handed down from generation to generation. It’s said that the Ring Colony was a “ship” to sail to a younger solar system beyond our own.
“Even if the sun were to perish, man can still live on. Because, the capacity of the ship is infinite… its aim is infinite… but it does not aim at God. The repetition of life is something that coexists with the infinite universe. Moreover, the challenge is a duty that was imposed upon life. To be good to one another… Otherwise, destroying oneself is an assured life.”
However, Captain Glenn and the “Skull Unit” fear that the Ring Colony would become the EX’s advance base for attempted supremacy over Earth, so they try to destroy it. AG and Yuria try with the little battle strength they have to stop them. Because of the amazing mobility of the Gundam that has the legacy of Amuro in it they exterminate them and finally are able to attack the Earth-side base of the “Skull Unit.”
Meanwhile, the ring colony approaches the space elevators orbit and is exchanged with the weight balance.
It is work for breaking away from the solar system.
People believed that it became something to be able to send the mark of human presence in the ring colony which housed both the Earth Federation Forces base and the “Skull Unit” base inside it, to the new Earth.
AG and Yuria are able to come in contact with such people and come to understand the miserable history of mankind that the “Beauty Memory” speaks of. Because of this, it is possible to exterminate the “Skull Unit” that has run out of control. AG and Yuria could then return to the Ring Colony using the space elevator.
RollingzokuMR2 Woh, this is some really amazing information, Thank you so much for it! By any chance can you provide a source for this? Huh, this really just makes me very interested in what Tomino may plan to do in the future working with whatever project he and Legacy effects have in mind. Though I thought it may be Gundam related because Bandai and Sunrise would have to be involved and they may just mess with things.

+Zeta Rise I've seen you comment on gundam related stuff a lot but just found out you have a channel. you make pretty good videos. I know a lot about Gundam lore, but ring of gundam has always been confusing because it's hard to find a reliable subbed version. Anyway I was wondering if you think that Tomino might have intended G-Reco to be the sequel/full version of ring of Gundam.
After watching the video it seems they ha very similar themes and messages and G-reco's ending was definitely full of Tomino's Ideals.
also on a kinda unrelated note,did you hear that Tomino plans to make another series?
Infinite view 1) We can't be too sure really, we can assume G Reco is the closest thing to what he wanted Ring of Gundam to be, but G Reco also has other messages unrelated to Ring so I can't say they're that related. Those messages being more towards propaganda, military taboo, politicians doing bad jobs, transition to adulthood. While Ring was more of a "Hey guys, can we like get our shit together and move beyond our past?" kind of deal.
2) Oh yes I have heard, though we have no idea what it will be whatsoever, since it's with Legacy, it may not be a Gundam title, but something different which won't have the restrictions Sunrise always puts on him.
This is not for to much convenient bullshit that i hate in most gundam series

Personally I think the deeper message of "Ring" is to learn from the past so that people can work for a better future. Its also saying to put the past to rest. Note that its learning from it and putting it to rest and not forgetting like it never happened otherwise humankind is doomed to repeat history. Just like the tragedy of the Universal Century. Its interesting how you interpret the short. It kinda reminds me of how Full Frontal met his end in Unicorn. So full of hate and disdain for humanity's actions until he accepted that there was still hope in the form of the light and warmth of the young Banagher Links. Frontal for me was the embodiment of the bitterness and hate of the early UC. He was aptly and poetically "excorsised" along with those feelings therefore that was the definitive end of the old Universal Century.
Thanks a million for the video man. Without an explanation of what's going on Ring of Gundam just seems like a mess of disjointed images and sounds. Now that you taught me the plot that story actually seems very deep and though provoking. I would really love to see Ring of Gundam get the full CGI movie it deserves in the future.
This was a very good video and analysis of Ring of Gundam. I think basing from what you've said, Ring of Gundam could mean that Tomino hopes that people will need to stop focusing on past conflicts and turbulations, instead lock our eyes on what can be done now. Fixing things because the person we were before never could do what we is needed now, so focus on your duties.
I like the UC verse from the original Gundam. I prefer there different universes though. I would to start my own universe in the Gundam franchise pretty sure every one would. So much possibilities out there in different universes.

This is the thing that ticks me off about the UC, it doesn't deserve to talk about possibility and humanity uniting when literally every entry shows that this will not happen. UC ends up devolving into the Church becoming the state which is like witch hunting age humanity. Then after G Reco the UC is wiped out entirely by Turn A. So if none of these people or their descendents ever achieve this possibility, why is the UC so obsessed with preaching it? It's pretty ridiculous to expect your audience to change their view of humanity's future whilst you just prove them right.
What if the new world, the "beyond the rainbow" is the stage where humanity is finally ready to meet other sentient species? What if among Amuro's memories there are the data for interstellar travel technology? And then what awaits humanity in this new unexplored universe, friendly civilizations that will help it evolve or an horryfing threat, a war for survival that humanity has no hope of winning if it does not stand together?
I'd love a Gundam series where humanity has to band together to fight an alien threat
rings gundam is very simuler to the origin version gundam. newtypes evolved to keep family together over the vast distences beyond that of the earth gaining the abilities to touch minds as there main ability.
Very well done. I do have one small piece of advice. You are going really fast. I tried showing your vids to someone who doesn't know anything about Gundam, and he couldn't follow half of what you were saying.

YoungOTBWY I've considered that I may of been going too fast, but I also realized short and sweet is usually more professional. Especially since the videos can be viewed again at any time. Though I'll work on the pacing more as I go on.

I'll just wait for the movie re-release. Maybe they'll explain it much better. Plot got too confusing, especially in the middle of the series.

No, the Earth Federation was going to use Gryps II to destroy Laplace's Box, not Neo Zeon. Earth was not in danger at all and Full Frontal (the guy with the mask) was a non-threat by the time they fired it. It was possible the shot would destroy Industrial 7, though.

@@nullpoint3346 The term "edgy" is generally used to describe one of a few things.
1. Something that's breaking boundaries of what's considered "normal".
2. Something that is pointlessly, excessively, or tastelessly dark.
I don't think a character/person having black hair or wearing all black is edgy (I'm a gothic/metalhead kind of dude, myself), but when someone does and acts in ways that's unnecessarily dark for no reason, it's considered edgy. This is why the term "edgelord" exists.

I know this suggestion is not a gundam series but can you look at Five Star Stories by Mamuro Nagano of Hyaku Shiki fame.

This movie looks VERY interesting, up to this point I thought I watched ALL GUNDAM animes , movies and OVAs but turns out I missed this one, it's not exactly cannon I guess. But , anyway, great video. =)

***** When it comes to Seed, these days i'm just generally neutral even though Fukuda confuses me. But really the main thing to take out of seed is the Stargazer OVA, because that was so worth whatever seed did while watching.
Although one thing about seed is, it is a very important title in the franchise, as it's the title which opened the franchise to whole new generations.

Personally I didn't care for the Witch from Mercury. The school setting, and tournament type fighting just didn't feel like Gundam to me. The story was ok, the protagonist was a bit too naïve and winner because she doesn't know her own strength kind of thing. I never felt like she could lose.
When I see a Gundam title, I'm expecting some kind of desperate struggle to survive, I just didn't see that, or feel it.
It's not so much that we don't get the hidden message, but that most of us don't speak Japanese and couldn't understand the dialogue, nor could we decipher the message from the imagery.

dudley545 I liked build fighters as it was fun and truly made for long standing fans with what it showed. But I really dislike Try, as it added nothing new but just became a cash grab (though technically all shows are cash grabs). Try in a way badly influenced the gunpla community more than it did good, as people used "gunpla is freedom" to justify buying bootleg model kits.

I am great fan of the Gundam franchise even if, after the original one (0078) I found it a little repetitive in the following series.
The only series that I really enjoyed, probably more than the orginal one, was Gundam 00 mini series.
I am writing this comment to ask for suggestion from you.
Anyone can suggest me a nice Mecha Anime?
Something with good graphic and good plot?
I am also (probably because of my age) a great fan of GO NAGAI creations as the Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser, etc ect
Therefore one more time, please help me with your suggestions/ideas.

Luca Caddeo Well it would all really depend on what exactly you want. Real Robot (Gundam)? Super Robot (Mazinger)?
There are various things you can give a try, aside from Gundam, another very popular and long real robot franchise is Macross. I would recommend to start with the first, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Although if it's graphic you want, the more newer version, Macross Frontier can be almost standalone.
Other ones I could recommend which are joys:
-Eureka 7
-The King of Braves GaoGaiGar
-Gunbuster
-Martian Successor Nadesico
Or some older ones released around the time of the first Gundam
-Votoms
-Ideon
