People can walk well and have handicap stickers. My brother had Cystic Fibrosis. He looked normal. He could walk normal. But, if he walked too far, his body would quickly run low on oxygen, and he would have to rest. Never assume someone shouldn't have one. I have even confronted people a couple times. One time a young boy and girl parked in a gas stations handicapped spot. I went up to them and politely said, "You may have a right to park here, so I am not trying to be a jerk; but, if you don't, you really shouldn't use these spots because some people really do need them". The kid (I'd say like 17) instantly apologized, I think we shook hands, then we left all happy. Now, this guy has more reason to complain. Someone just stole his spot and he thinks they shouldn't be there. Fair enough, I understand. But, you can't judge a person by if they look normal and can walk 50 feet. Later, my brother had a double lung transplant. He was able to run and bike and do a lot. He really enjoyed himself. Sadly, less than a year after his transplant, he fell ill and past away.

I am sorry about the loss of your brother. It seems to have gotten so bad in the last year or 2 with people leaving notes or coming after people who don't think that the person looks handicapped.

The worse are the assholes who take it upon themselves to make a scene by lecturing and judging without even knowing you.
I lost my lower left leg in an car accident years ago and now use a prosthetic. Even though I have a disabled plate and placard I don't always need to use them to park in a handicap spot. I only use them on my bad days when I experience ghost pains or pain in the area of the amputation and have trouble walking or standing a long time. But when you see me, unless I'm wearing shorts or a dress, you can't tell I have a prosthetic leg. On bad days the only telltale sign is a little limp.
However on one bad day that I needed to use a handicap spot a woman confronted me in the parking lot and accused me of not being handicap, that I didn't deserve to park in that spot and that I should be ashamed because I was abusing the system and taxpayers money and that I was just being lazy. She even threaten to call the police and even said someone on disability couldn't even afford the car I had so I must be faking it (newsflash just because someone is disabled doesn't automatically mean they're on disability and can't work). By now people were watching her ranting and actually agreeing with her. And even though I didn't have to prove anything I raised my pants leg to show the prosthetic.
I never seen a group of idiots shut up so fast. The woman who started it all walked quickly back to her car and drove off without even apologising for yelling at me. Most of the small crowd of people who were agreeing with her walked away too without saying a word, others just laughed it off like it was a joke. Ya let's go humiliate someone we know nothing about ha ha.
Btw there were several empty handicap spots.

The lady parked herself so i could not leave. When police got there i showed them my disabled card, and also pulled my pants down. I wanted the police to charge her with felony property damage. In this day in age people dont get facts, before they react.

It's so ridiculous how much people get upset over if someone deserves a handicap placard or plates. Trust me the drs don't just hand them out to everyone. It's taken very serious. And where I live the handicap parking spots aren't always closer to the door. Trust me when I'm having a half way decent day I don't use the handicap parking spots. But noone knows how BAD the chronic pain is in my feet and legs. I'm trying to not use a wheelchair or scooter in the stores, because I don't want to lose the mobility I still have. That doesn't mean I don't deserve to use the handicap parking plates I have.

Doctors don't just hand them out? I lived in an apartment back in 2011, my female neighbor had one for a pinkie toe that was amputated. You telling me that is a legitimate justification for a handicapped placard? You have people missing a complete leg, or in some that have no use of one, that have a hard time getting that placard. So don't say doctors give them out justifiably. Doctors also "coached" patients on why they issued them a medical marijuana card, does that make it right, nope!

    • @VapidToast
      @VapidToast 6 лет назад +2

Sorry but, a lot of doctors actually misdiagnose patients all the time. Because the patients are stupid and are convinced more is wrong with them than truly is. So yes, they do tend to just hand them out.

People have NO RIGHT whatsoever to judge another person's abilities based upon how they appear. It's like they're acting as a doctor doing an on the spot diagnosis they think will hold up in court or something. I'm handicapped, though not visibly so, and have been confronted as well. They actually ARGUED with me! If you have a disabled permit, you're legal. End of story. If someone doesn't like it, it's their problem not the disabled person's. Tell them to take it up with LE. I have a permanent handicap placard in my car. I am almost 75 and suffer from arthritis and degenerative disc disease in my lower back and neck. I have good and bad days. Mostly bad but still only park in handicap space when I have to. Some people are so judgemental. My late husband had COPD, PTSD, congestive heart failure and diabetes and was in a wheelchair. I sometimes had to go thru a parking lot looking for a parking spot so I wouldn't have to push him with my ailments. It's pretty darn sad when I hear young able bodied young people claimed ' I was only there a few minutes'. Entitled brats.

Vickie Finney I work for ihss (in home social services) and my client has her good days and her bad days. some days she can feel like she can walk anywhere, other days she's almost bed ridden. I also know a man who has sickyle cell and is in a wheel chair. can you believe he got shamed for parking in a handicapped spot? and get this, it was by someone else in a handicapped spot who complained he was parked crooked (which was because they had parked over the line and he has a van who needs the extra space for his chair) they then told him he couldn't park there because he didn't have a placard. well he didn't have a placard because he has the handicap icon on his licence plate, which he invited them to look. when I was told this story I almost cried because this is the sweetest man you'll ever meet and having heard someone harassed him like that hurt my heart.

Well, if they're disabled to the extent that they qualify for a handicap parking permit, they should get their doctor to certify as such and get one. The law states that you must have handicap license plates or a placard to park in handicap parking spaces. If you are disabled and choose not to get one, you have to park in regular parking spaces. You can't just bend the rules around to suit yourself, although that seems to be the norm nowadays.

I've had two different people tell me that they "pay taxes," so they can park wherever they want, when I confronted them about parking in an accessible parking spot. The average Joe/Jane has no clue, nor gives a damn, about being disabled and woe be unto the person w/ what's known as a hidden disability, as witnessed in the video. Disability is not always seen. Heart conditions make long walks impossible but that person may never stumble or limp. It is none of your business to ask. If you think they are getting by unseen and they park in a HC spot, call non emergency numbers and report it. But what gives this complainant the right the judge someone else’s pain or abilities as worse than their own? You don’t live in their skin or walk (limp) a mile in their shoes. Sorry, the assault should not have happened but neither should the rush to judgment on the other guy’s abilities. You can even get (in my area - Texas) a HC placard for ADHD and other mental issues. Sorry, I do not feel sorry for either person.

My doc and my pain mgt doc have offered me placards but I’ve refused so far. There’s folks out there that need it much more than I do. As for doctors not just handing them out, unfortunately some do. In some states the county clerks office can and do issue them without a doctors note based on their own ‘observation’. Needless to say that is abused for political and personal gain.

A doctor has to fill out the 2nd half of a two page form in California for you to get a placard. You fill out lots of info, then the doctor fills out the rest. Diagnosis and length of disability is required because there are temporary placards, or permanent placards, or license plates. It is nobody else’s business what your diagnosis is, or why your doctor feels you require the placard. But even if you appear completely disabled, you are not allowed by law in California to use that parking space unless you have the handicap plates on your car or the placard on your dashboard or rear view mirror. Period. If someone thinks you are using a placard or plated car but they are not designated for you, perhaps thinking you have used a relatives handicap placard (done a lot), they don’t have a right to confront you directly, but rather are to report it to law enforcement for determination of who owns the placard. Here they are numbered and the DMV can identify for law enforcement what name the placard is under. Unless that person is in the car, you can’t use it to park in the spot. It’s fraud and by law is supposed to result in law enforcement taking the placard and the DMV revoking it. There is also an app that was made by a community watch group that allows you to take pictures of a car with no placard, or the placard with number visible and a pic of who got out of the car, and send it to the DMV. If it is one with no placard, the pics serve the same as a citizen arrest so to speak, and the DMV has the ability to submit it to the law enforcement agency as a citation request, and an actual ticket will be issued. No joke. If it is a placard and the DMV photo doesn’t match the pic of who was getting out of the car, same thing, plus revoked placard. The DMV will ask the owner of the placard to bring it in and hand it over. Citations and fines are assessed as well. I have the app, and have used it only once. I have let people know I have a reporting app, and they have all but one moved their vehicles from the space. There are so few spots it really is a big deal to allow only valid parking but we are not police officers. Keep your wits about you and never ever touch anyone.

So it was super annoying having to waste my energy with idiots about my disability. I don’t drive and said fuck it ima get a couple placards there free and I can have em in case I get a ride somewhere and one on my backpack to not deal with idiots no more. You will get assholes regardless but least u will be a lot more comfy. Like seriously prior to getting one getting on and off the bus was a pain. Like can people wait 10 seconds or so to not get on. The front is literally the disabled designated area so course where getting off the front especially if we want the step lowered. But now with the placard on the backpack it’s so nice having them get out the way 😺
But u will still get idiots though sadly. Like that bus driver who was in heavy traffic so opened the door early and just as I get to the door he closes it and goes to the stop down the street. Like placards are pretty big how do u not see that on my backpack. But u gotta not give a shit regardless don’t make ur self uncomfortable just cuz of idiots and my dog loves u

I'm a quadriplegic, and I drive a specially modified full sized Chevrolet Suburban (with wheelchair lift). There's been many times that I've pulled into a handicapped spot and had people walk over and start being abusive (before I even start the process of getting out) for parking there. All they see is a normal looking guy, in a normal looking Suburban, sitting in a handicapped spot, so they start running their mouth.
My point here is that sometimes people are to quick to judge others without knowing the full set of facts. While I don't condone violence, maybe Mr. Ledoux should have held his tongue. As an example; What if the guy that parked in the spot was a perfectly able-bodied person, but was there to pick up/load an elderly or handicapped person that was waiting just inside the doors of the store. In most states using the handicapped spot to load/unload someone other than the driver is perfectly acceptable.
I'm not saying that abuse of the handicapped spot doesn't happen, I see it on an almost daily basis. However, I see people jumping to conclusions without the full set of facts far more often.

I don't consider myself handicapped because I can walk for around 10-15 minutes before I need to sit down and rest. I will however make use of the electric shopping carts in a grocery store or a department store because I generally am there for 45 minutes or so to shop. I don't drive anymore because of reduced driving skill, but even if I did I wouldn't park my car in a handicap parking spot.

Lots of brain related things are actually STORED in the spinal cord, fractured disks leak onto the cord and cause major pain and issues depending what part of ur back is hurt.
And even tho I can't actually run, I use the word run since it means "I went as fast as I could"
This I think they meant he tried to get away from the man and just wasn't fast enough.
Since he was injured before the assault its not that hard to get badly hurt in multiple areas just from falling...
So that added kick could have done a lot.
I have amnesia from a car wreck and allergic reaction to a medication but could still recognize ppl even tho I couldn't remember their names or our childhood.
I could do school work in certain subjects sometimes but not explain how I knew how to do it...
And I couldn't remember the same things two days in a row. Some day's I could keep up and others I just had silence in my head when I tried to bring up the information.
It was terrible since I'd had photographic memory my whole life...
I had to relearn how to learn and remember without it.
Its really hard to explain, u find urself awkward and unsettled very often..
Don't judge just based on his amnesia.

I actually know someone that has a fraudulent placard. She does have a medical condition that is potentially disabling, but for the last few years since she was diagnosed, she has been able to work as a waitress and wear spiked heels. She is active 16 hours per day, often doing housework after working at the diner...goes on extensive shopping trips....and pays for it all with her SSDI check...since SSA doesn't know she is in fact working gainfully....but i don't dare say anything, even when I can't get a parking spot because her daughter the military recruit is using the mothers placard to illegally park....i would just be called a karen if i were to speak up, after all her doc signed off on the placard and the disability application...her doc that maybe spends an hour with her per year...whereas I see her multiple times per week and see what she does.

i forget her name but there was a woman in the handicap spot beside me and a couple was cussing her tell her she didn't need that spot being so young. the parked behind her and wouldn't let her leave. they called the cops. them out of the blue the woman hit her. and the man tried to then i got out of my truck and put a stop to it in a hurry. but anyways while we was waiting on the police to show up she as me if she could use the back seat of my truck and ask me please dont let anyone look in on her. i was like ok. she reached into her car grabbed a pair of shorts and jumped into my truck and about a minute later she got out in shorts and both legs was gone just below the knees. the couple tried to leave after that but now WE everyone around refused to let them leave. the female couple got $7000 fine and 30 days in jail and the man got $5000 fine. i could not tell. not sure but i think she lost both legs when she was like 5 and she was 28 then so she had some time to learn and get them to fit right. i talked to her a couple times after that for court. but then i guess she moved on with life because i never saw her again and in time just lost track of her.
