- Investigators for the California DMV check handicap placards being used by people near Runyon Canyon. They find numerous cars parked in spots reserved for the handicapped. ABC News cameras catch them in the act.
I'm really proud of that dog for not trying to hide its face and accepting the consequences.

They're THAT lazy. Trust me, I live next to a park where kids would drive their cars on the grass to a volleyball court, because they were lazy to walk 200 feet; and then the park blocked it off, and the KIDS STOPPED COMING.
It's a gorgeous neighborhood they'd be walking through, too, not a garbage dump or crime alley.

Had a lady jump all over me a few years back because I was using a temp [red] handicap hanger.
She called the cops and everything. Even after I showed her the 22 staples in my knee and the cane I was using to walk with.
When the cops showed up they ran the placard and told me to have a nice day. Then they ran hers and surprise surprise surprise. She was using the one her recently deceased grandmother had. Should have heard her hollering about racism and everything then.
Why did you bother wasting any time interacting with someone like that? You knew you were not breaking the law and that you were legally parked in a handicapped spot. You certainly didn't owe her, or anyone else an explanation, you should have just ignored her and went on your way.

I've been disable since infancy and I bought a new sports cars a few years ago and people would leave nasty notes on my car when I used a handicap spot. While I appreciated the concern disable people don't always drive wheel chair vans.
+1851RKP yup, I "broke" my back in the army and my knees are shot, a lady threatened to have my placard canceled because I was abusing it. As disabled people can't ride motorcycle, according to her. I ride a very large bike so my knees don't hurt, it's no different than sitting in a chair, and I keep a folding cane in my saddle bag. She was just pissy 'cause I kicked her out of the handicap stall out front of my house 5 months prior with her excuse being that there was no parking and she had to drop her kids off at school.
I've had a handicapped placard for years. The application was signed by my heart surgeon. It's entirely legal and legitimate in every way. I hope that because my disability isn't plainly obvious (no limp,crutches,wheelchair,etc) I won't be accused of any kind of fraud. It hasn't happened yet...but it does cross my mind.
That's why the officers check the permit to see who it is issued to. There are many people that have hidden disabilities that are not obvious to others, that need those permits, like yourself.
My disabilities are also hidden and I also look much younger. I always have and can pass for early 20’s when I’m almost 46. I don’t use a wheelchair, crutches, or a cane but I’m in the hospital frequently especially due to infections and other issues. I used to be on oxygen but I was able to come off. I have a central line in my chest and I have my own IV pump with fluids and meds. I have chronic pain and issues with my heart rate and blood pressure. My registration I believe has on it that I am disabled
I have good and bad days. Sometimes it's apparent other days it's not.
I totally know the feeling, I have MS and its been getting harder and harder to walk long distances for me now, I just applied for a handicap placard but also worry about being judge with an invisible disease...
That's the issue I had with this story bcse I felt folks just assume they didn't have a disability bcse it's not visible or they're not in a wheelchair. My friend has one bcse they were brutally attacked and suffered a spinal injury but they aren't in a wheelchair or use a cain. But has been in PT for a long time and is always in a lot of pain. But their dr still expects them to remain active.

There is a saying that goes honesty is the best policy. Well, I think confession is a best policy as well especially if you are caught red handed or there are evidence presented to prove that you have been committed. Fess up man.

As a person who is handicapped, I applaud these officers. I usually do not use a handicapped spot unless I have a very bad day and my spine, knee, and ankle injuries are really flaring up. Those spots can usually go to people who have more problems than I do unless I am having that occasional bad day.
If I was in that area I would have to have my walking stick or a cane to go on a hike as that would probably cause more problems that it would be worth for my health.
So glad to see this. My mom wanted to go to the mall so I took her could not park in the handicap parking because this young guy with his fancy truck parked there. I called mall police and stayed to watch him get a ticket!! My mother was seriously handicap in a wheel chair.
I would have too. Then I would have parked in that spot. If you had time.

We had a neighbor who abuse this system as well.. got a handicap tag from her husband claiming he was injured during combat but is able to lift 3 cases of water at once. The wife is a gym instructor who parks in a permanent handicap spot & we live in a complex so parking is difficult. Shame on them!!!
I'm disabled due to a drunk driver many years ago, have a disabled placard, but even I won't park in a disabled spot unless absolutely necessary. I figure there's always someone who needs it more.
I'm the same way. I have a degenerative genetic physical disability. I got my handicapped tags and plates when I was about 32. I hate using them (and those motorized carts in stores) because I figure that there's got to be someone out there who is worse off and maybe they need it more.
Plus, people see someone their 30s and think they're trying to use their mother's plates. On the days when I'm really bad and really need to go to the store (for pharmacy, etc) I'll use the parking. I've been in pain for so many years that I'm good at masking it, so I'm sure people might think I'm faking sometimes.
I hate to assume that someone I see using the parking is not legitimately in need because I know appearances can be deceiving. But jerks who do use it and make people who really need the parking park further away make me so mad. I know there are people who think it'll be OK because they're going to be quick or just run in for one thing at the store. If they had to live life truly disabled then they'd see what it's like.
If you are disabled and have a legitimate placard, then use it or lose it.

I totally lost my spacial orientation and couldn't find my car in a parking lot to save my life without being able to park in a handicap spot.
I am not to ashamed to ever use it and I always exercise that privilege when I can.
No one can tell me I don't deserve to use it unless they are willing to let me take out a 1/4 or their brain.
My mother was the same way, even though she often needed a wheel chair. I had to take her to the airport, and damn near every handicapped spot was full, no placard, no special license plate. I qualify for one, but refuse. Fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome, but I usually know well in advance if it's a bad day or not, so I'll just stay home, otherwise, I walk, dammit! I need the walk!
Same here. On bad days I use the capper parking. On good days I leave the space for someone else.
Glenn Billings In my case, I try to keep handicapped spaces open for people who need extra space for things like wheelchairs. There are days when I'm in a wheelchair (and in a few years I will be permanently) and I know from experience that setting up a wheelchair in regular parking is next to impossible when you can't even get your door all the way open. Handicapped parking isn't just about close parking. It's also about wider spaces with room to pull out and transfer into a wheelchair without damaging the car next to you.
I have a daughter in a wheelchair and it really bothers me when people do this.
Watched a HEALTHY mom and daughter park in a handicap spot, put the placard on the mirror, exit the vehicle, go shopping, load their packages, get in, pull the placard down and drive off.

@@railroad9000 Yes I agree it does happen alot but there is no way to tell what someones handicap really is without invading their privacy. Technically as you are probably correct in your assumption, in alot of jurisdictions there is not supposed to be nothing hanging from the rearview mirror even the handicap placard. It just is never enforced.
I saw a woman who used a handicapped parking spot. No handicapped placard. I confronted her and she said, "I'm old." So what!
I reported her to the police! I hope she got a large fine!
The thing I hate more than anything as a paralyzed member of society is when people use their relative/roommate/friends permit in order to park in handicap spaces. I also hate the fact that many doctors for fear of lawsuits will sign the form in order to allow them to get the permit. I also hate people with temporary permits that continue to use them for years after they’ve been issued. I’ve seen it so many times as a disabled person and there’s nothing I can do but just shake my head in disgust. I think the people without placards that park in handicap spaces should have their car towed away rather than just writing them a ticket. The interesting thing is as a disabled person I pretty much spend most my time at home. So it’s those few times that I actually go out to get groceries, or go to the doctor, and these are the times that it happens. So if it happens this much to me as rare as I go out, imagine the amount of people that must actually do it when I’m not seeing it.
I think every drunk driver when caught should have their car smashed. No QUESTIONS ASKED. SMASH IT
I’m soooooo okay with people getting tickets for this. My sister was handicapped before she passed away and we ran into these entitled AH all the time.
Screw that! We live in a country that has too many special groups! Handicapped parking should be part time, I should not have to walk by empty parking spots in a rainstorm. Have Monday Wednesday and Sunday.

Exactly what I came to say! We have a jogging strip like that here in Madison, WI: by the water, lots of sexy people jogging. People will drive over or take the bus over just to be seen jogging there. Pathetic.

The man with the wheel chair said it perfectly “ I would gladly be able to walk & give them my spot”! These person don’t realize how truly blessed they really are not to have to deal with being disabled on a daily basis. The people that get caught illegally parking in handicap spaces should be forced to live in a wheel chair for one month or face a huge fine....Their choice. Maybe when they are forced to experience what it is like having to live, get around on a daily basis, go grocery shopping, find a parking spot with enough room to be able to get their chair out to be able to do their errands, just to show up & see perfectly able bodied people parking in the spots. Maybe then they will get it. Nobody wants to be handicapped, especially to get a handicapped parking space. Would you?

:People need to be aware that not all people have handicaps that are visible, I have COPD which is active when I try to walk any distance' I do not have a placard and do not use handicapped parking spots since I have been homebound since 2020 from an unrelated major illness that medication for it nullifies the effects of Covid vaccines. But when I am able to drive, I will have a placard and the only way anyone will know that I have a handicapp is if they notice my Imogen oxygen machine and recognize what it is.
I am permanently disabled with two fused ankles and a bevy of other complications arising from that. On good days, I often park in non-disabled spots, just because I know I am good for it. On other days, when I don't just send the wife, but am in pain from sciatica or whatever, I desperately need those spots. I have turned in more than one violator. One day I will take the law into my own hands, and issue them a citation personally, which is legal in Oregon.

However, if the vehicle DOES NOT have a handicapped placard or license plate, when parking in a handicapped spot, they are breaking the law. I am disabled, and have a placard. About 2 years ago we were in Duluth, MN and were lucky enough to find a handicapped spot. We were in a rental vehicle and forgot to put the placard on the rear view mirror. We started to walk away and a man came up looking in the window to make sure we didn’t have the placard and maybe it fell off. I realized that we hadn’t hung the placard and that’s what he was looking for. We were only about 5 steps away from the vehicle, so my husband went back and put the placard up. The man identified himself as someone from the police department checking on people misusing handicapped spots. I also had to show him the paperwork you get with the placard, which I readily did. He apologized and I apologized to him. That is the only time we forgot to hang the placard when we parked in a handicapped space. Lot of times, my husband will drop me at the door, go park in a regular spot and when we’re done he’ll get the car and pick me up. I know there are plenty of people worse off than I am, so if we can park in a regular spot, we do. But, I also have had people yell at me that I don’t look like I’m handicapped and shouldn’t park there although I usually have my portable oxygen with me. My handicap is bad heart and lungs, so I probably really don’t “look” handicapped. But there are many ways to be handicapped and you may not look it. I’ve heard people say they can use it cause they hurt their back, leg or something but aren’t qualified to be considered handicapped. The best ones I’ve heard are , the weather is so bad(cold, snowy, rainy) that a handicapped person wouldn’t be out any way. Or it’s late at night and what would a handicapped person be out after dark.
When my grandmother was alive and I drove her car around, the only time I would park in a handicapped space was if she was with me. If she wasnt in the vehicle, even though she had a handicap plate, I would park in a regular spot and left the handicapped space for whoever really needed it!

That is an AWESOME solution, valet parking! But a sideshow here. A friend of mine and I parked in the handicapped spot at a store about three months ago. he put his placard in my window as we got out. A woman came over and started harassing us saying we did not look disabled (my license plate says "Disabled veteran" but it is not the type of license to let me use the HC spots). She said she was calling the police and we said to go ahead and reminded her that not everyone looks disabled that are.
The cop was waiting for us when we came out 20 minutes later. The woman was screaming. The cop asked her to calm down. He checked my friend's papers and found them in order. The woman started screaming again. The cop turned to my friend and said "Why don't you show her?".
He unzipped his pant leg, undid the bracing and held his leg out to her. The cop noted some of the redness around the site where the new leg did not quite fit right and was irritating his skin. The cop turned back to the woman and told her to head for Afghanistan and maybe she would be eligible to use the HC space. And I was driving because his leg hurt so much.

No, because some disabilities are progressive or symptomatic, like Parkinson's or cancer or diabetes (type 1; i.e. non-lifestyle type; can come and go), even having a bad back, perhaps you're able to go hiking or walking on the beach for periods, but are unable to then use the hard footpaths of city centers because of the damage to your spine/back etc. Perhaps you have very poor upper body strength, so can't carry bags far etc.
Don't assume someone isn't disabled just because they look fit and healthy, Adam Hills (Australian comedian) is disabled, he was born without a foot, wears a replacement, it's not even noticeable, but say, he might be able to go swimming for hours, but can't walk a kilometer on bitumen and concrete due to the pain.
I understand though, that some people do just cheat the system and that's shameful, especially when their bad behavior it begins to taint the good behavior of the genuinely disabled.
Valet Parking for EVERY handicapped spot? That would be kind of expensive.
Urgh...yeah. I can usually walk in the woods, on the soft duff, just fine for hours. Urban areas with sidewalks? Within an hour, my back is killing me, and it feels like the bones in my feet are broken, and every step becomes agony.
No, the valet takes them to a nearby lot or such. They probably phone ahead as they near the end of the trail and the valets meet them at a designated spot with their vehicle.
So the cop gets a talking to and the average citizen gets a $700 fine and has to go before a judge with possible community service? What's wrong with this picture?

The reality is NOBODY gets a seven hundred dollar sign. They're "admonished" by the court and left to continue thumbing their collective noses at the law and those who NEED the spaces and have a legal right to them. Cop or not nobody but the handicapped take the spaces seriously. Certainly not the law.

I drove elderly people to medical appointments for a senior community. Everybody I drove couldn't drive themselves any more. I had a handicapped placard, and would park in a space, get out the walker or wheelchair, get the person in the building, then back out of the handicapped spot and wait at the far end of the lot. When I would get a phone call the resident was done, if there was a handicapped space, I pulled in, got the resident back to the car, and drove off. Sometimes there would be a space, sometimes there wouldn't be. I would just park sideways, blocking cars for a few minutes while getting the resident in to the docs office, and wait and do the same thing for pickup. I only sat in a handicap spot if I had someone who had trouble breathing and/or going long distances. I never, ever abused the placard. And, I'm an avid hiker. When I am not driving an elderly person, I park far, far away and walk. I don't mind. I'm in shape to do so.

I'm in my md 70's, Heart Failure, arthritic lower back and there are days when I can walk for a considerable distance ....on those days I park as far as I can away just so I can get the exercise. Then there are days when I have a difficult time just walking from inside my home to my garage and back without being exhausted. I've been blessed, no cane, no walker and I still do quite well. Thanks to all of you that do adhere to the laws of our land. God Bless!
Be careful about confronting random people about using handicapped parking spaces.
You never know when you are going to confront someone who is going to react with extreme hostility towards you.
It doesn't matter if they turn out to be handicapped or not if they end up harming you in some way or even killing you.
It's not worth the possibility of something happening to you or your family over a handicapped parking space.
If you feel the need to do something about it, call the police.

I observed a NC State Trooper parked in a handicapped parking space at an Arby's in Boone NC a few years back. His was the only vehicle and he was sitting inside eating. He came out while I was writing down the info on the vehicle. he came out and ask if he could help me. I pointed out his discrepancy and he says now see here to which I said now see here nothing. I read him the riot act and he said there was a board blocking the sign but there was no board and the pavement was clearly marked. Personally I have disabled veteran plates but if you do not have the plates, I bet he would be the first to issue a citation. I wonder how he explained it to the internal affairs department after I turned his ass in the the NC Governors Office. Yes, I'm a 100% disabled veteran and I served all my time as a career as a Military Policeman and damn proud of it. This kind of officer is a total disgrace to honest law enforcement.
Be careful of your harsh words. Karma can be a real fucking bitch and you too could someday be disabled or handicapped. Age is not a factor however being as naive as you seem you will not always be a spring chicken

It's is the property owners responsibility to meet federal law for proper disabled parking. The symbol painted on the ground doesn't meet that ADA standards..the symbol on the ground is a waste of time and money because it means nothing legally 😉 the officer is 100 percent correct. I don't look on the pavement when I'm parking. Ther is a few logical reasons for the rule .
When tempted to park in a handicapped spot I remind myself I'm fortunate I'm not allowed to park there.

Man. This makes me so mad. I'm disabled, and have been since I was around 11 years old. I'm now 24, and have a permanent handicap plaque. I've had people actually confront me and accuse me of using someone else's plaque. Guess I don't "look disabled".
Same happened to me. I'm a disabled veteran and have DV plates. These old people think I'm too young. I point out the plates and they get respectful real quick.
My daughter and I run into the same thing. She has MS and I have other issues that qualify me for the permanent tag. I had one person come up and questioned whether I was handicapped. I asked if they were a doctor because I needed help what the sudden pain in my ass. Somehow they didn't see the humor in the answer.

People need to understand that not all disabilities are visible. While those of us who live with disabilities appreciate those people who are looking out for us, please make sure you understand this. I have been harassed, followed, reported, and humiliated by some people who refuse to understand that not all disabilities are visible. If you think someone may be violating handicap parking, ask nicely. I will assure you that it is my car/placard and I "earned it" the old-fashioned way...living with multiple disabilities. I would rather not live with these disabilities, I'd rather be my "old"self (before I became disabled). The cost for this placard is living with relentless pain, the loss of my career and former life of being a healthy, active wife, mother, teacher, grandmother, volunteer, and living with other physical issues I'd rather not get into (please remember we do have the right to privacy). I'd happily surrender my placard if I was given my life before all this again. So please be respectful and kind...we have enough to deal with on a daily basis. Thank you.

Tattoos are not tabu, this is true. But when you have that many, and in places that are not easy to cover, it still limits your employment opportunities. A lot also depends on the area of the country you live in. In LA, I can't imagine it being a big problem, but in South Georgia. It is still a problem for many employees. That being said. I parked in one of the 6 handicap spots at wholefoods onetime to run in and grab a kombucha. I checked out at customer service and was walking back out the door within 90 seconds. this social justice dork wearing skinny jeans started blocking me and yelling at me. I was cracking up laughing trying to ignore him and he kept blocking me because he was so concerned about the handicap wont have anywhere to park. I was 90 seconds. He blocked me for minutes to shame me and yet cared nothing that he was now holding up the 'handicapped.'

You can take a pic through the app & have it automatically sent it to local law enforcement so offender gets mailed a ticket!! I don't make assumptions, my nephew had a heart attack and for a while had a hard time after his surgery walking and was out of breath and it was painful also and the same year his daughter had major foot surgery, but at least strangers watching her could see her struggle to walk and bandaged with her scooter. But I do think so many people feel entitled to use this even if not handicapped. I used to take my husband's 94 year old aunt to dentist or doctors appointments and I had to get her Walker out of the trunk and get her inside but so often I would see aging baby boomers waltzing out of the office in their tennis outfits ( one couple) and hopping in the car like they were not handicapped. I asked 1 lady about parking in the handicapped as she did not have a placard or a license plate for it, her excuse was " oh I forgot to put it up, I have a hard to e lifting my arm up over my head for a long time. Well can you walk fine, if so you should not be using this. I wish I could have filmed our aunt and put tapes of it or a link on the internet on people's cars who wrongly take this parking. There is very little consideration for other people these days. There is no shame, there is no correcting ourselves or apologizing any longer it is all, pushyness, insistence on our being right, and to hack with the other guy. No grace, no manners, very little kindness. I asked a woman to social distance in a pharmacy, she went off on me then told me " I know I work in a hospital, I'm a nurse" my reply was " well then you should know better than most people the damage this disease can do and act accordingly. Hope I NEVER have to rely on her being my nurse.

The owner of the valet service is probably making a ton of money, providing employment for those who want to work, providing a service for the people who want/need it, and keeping the handicap spots open for those who truly need them.

I think you are the exception to the rule.
We commonly observe perfectly able bodied people being lazy - when they should be appreciably more active.
In your case, you have a good reason to take the elevator instead of he stairs.
About 75% would use the elevator & If Your back is acting up You need to see You Doc & Learn the proper exercises. I used to have back problems but I learned the proper back exercises for it.
Just FYI: I had a legal handicap placard when I was 38. I was recovering from a devastating ski injury to my right leg, after 5 months on crutches, in a plaster cast from my toes to my crotch, and 7 months of rehab, I could walk very slowly and carefully while wearing a leg brace. I got berated by a man as I slowly made my way across a department store parking lot. I looked pretty normal, because I wore mid-calf length skirts to hide the awful looking brace. Imagine his surprise when I hiked my skirt all the way up to my thigh to show him the brace. He was very embarrassed and apologetic. I'm just commenting here, because you don't have to be old, in a wheel chair or be visibly handicapped to need a placard.
Tootsla 125 I get this too since I’m fairly young (30) but my oncologist signed off for a placard (I only asked for a temporary one, not permanent) for me due the tumor, the chemo, and I ended up getting a Pulmonary Embolism which makes it really hard to walk as well as hard to breathe.
I learn this lesson the hard way. When i was young i use to think you have to be able to see a disability.
About 4 years ago i learn personally not all disability are the same.
After 40+ years working in food service i ended up with pinch nerves, degenerative disc disease, bone spurs in back and
neck. I worked till a simply job at work felt like a 10 inch french knife was going thur my neck.
I am telling my story and hopefully it will help people not to judge people who you don't know, like i use to.
I hope no one will find out what choric pain is the way i have had to. I am still a lucky one... I have the use of all 4 limbs yes always in some pain.... Some good days some bad days. On really bad days can't hold my neck up on my shoulders.

If a person has a tag or hanging placard then you shouldn't say anything, the problem is when someone like the 1st woman uses a placard and it does not apply to them, I had two brothers and a nephew die from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which starts to effect them from birth, by the age of 7-8 they are in a wheel chair and it progresses until they die, my brothers were 18 and 20, my nephew was 23 when they passed, we could never find a handicapped parking space when trying to take him places, when you have a motorized wheelchair you need space to let the lift down and if it was raining we either didn't take him out or we would hold a plastic tarp over him as we walked a good distance, he in his chair, to get inside, there is more to it but I will spare you, I guess what I am saying is I don't think a person should have a handicapped plate or placard unless they need a device in order to walk, old folk's get them now just for arthritis and exercise is good for that, obese people because they are so heavy it hurts them to walk, so many whiners, you cry because of a ski injury, it was your choice to ski which can be a dangerous sport, and if you could walk even slowly you did not need the placard, YOU COULD WALK!!, I have had health issues myself had two compression fx in my spine suffer from severe arthritis but until I need a walker or wheelchair refuse to take advantage of it, my mom is 86 and has severe problems, gets chemo for lymphoma, (no handicapped plate) but also walks slowly because she can and will as long as she can, god forbid you ever are in that situation or have a loved one who is because then you will see things differently and thank God that you can walk or move at all.
Toni Wilson I too know your pain started working at 16 and worked 42 years, some of those years at a full and part time job, exercise is GOOD for you even when you hurt you must push though it, it helps your body in the long run, I have bouts that last anywhere from 1 to 4 days where I am in severe pain, on those days I'm not going shopping or driving, I take anti inflammatory's and use a Tens unit until I get better, again if I am mobile I am mobile and don't need a handicapped spot. I hope on your bad days your not driving or under the influence of pain meds.

Went looking for a car advertised on Craigslist once. Seller met us at a 7-Eleven type of place and parked in a handicapped spot even though they were not handicapped and had no placard. I suggested why don't we move to a different space instead of here and he was all 'Nah; it doesn't matter; it's just for a few minutes'.

I’m handicapped and found this funny. I can barely walk with a lot of pain and it irks the hell out of me to see perfectly healthy nobs walk like they’re ready for a marathon using a handicapped spot or encroaching into a spot.
I live in the Shreveport area. I don't have a handicap placard, but I am 69, I have had 2 strokes, a heart attack, and bypass surgery. I see people parking in handicap parking spaces all the time, and nobody does anything about it, even when you report it to the building security.
So fed up with people abusing these spaces. I have a placard and once I was looking for a spot at Publix and I had to park in the back of the lot while this man and woman (not sure if they are spouses or dating) parked there and had no placard and were clearly not disabled and I mentioned that they were in a handicap parking spot. She said “so what” and went inside. When they came out I was on my phone and they fly past me while she gives me the middle finger and curses at me. I was also on home oxygen at the time. They don’t care. It’s all about them. These two women in this video using her husband’s placard making excuses really pisses me off
I qualify, hands down, for a parking permit! But, you know what? I can still use my legs! Until I lose the use of my legs, I WILL park where I have to walk! Save those spots for folks who REALLY need it!
My own mother used to tell me to go ahead and park in a handicap spot, since, my dad had a placard in the car. I would not do that! I would drop her off at the door, then, park and walk. She didn't drive.

This is a little off topic but I'm going to submit it anyway. The week before Christmas I drove my dad to go Christmas shopping. He has COPD asthma, and walks with a cane. However he really wanted to pick out a gift for his new granddaughter. He managed to walk in the store, we bought something very quickly. we left the store and he stood at the entrance holding on to one of the pillars at the entrance. I went to get the car which had his handicap placard on it. A policeman came over and rightfully asked me why I was using a handicap placard when I was clearly not handicapped. I pointed to my dad who is visible from the vehicle, explaining I was going to pull the car over closer to him so he didn't have to walk all the way over to it. The policeman called me told me that I was violating the law and wrote me a ticket. Even though he could clearly see my father barely holding himself up several feet away. I went to court to fight the ticket, brought my dad with me. The judge asked the cop why he wrote The ticket, and the cop said if you have a handicap sticker the handicap person must be inside the vehicle. The judge freaked out. Told the cop "if someone has a handicap sticker, according to you they can't go into a store? Then why the hell would they need to handicap sticker on the first place?" The judge apologized to me and my father for the cop wasting our time and his.

When I go to a supermarket, or mall, it's always police cars I see parked in disabled spots. When come out they are holding a takeaway bag, when asked why they park like that, and they reply they're on a call. Thats was in US and UK.
You know the guy with the pit bull does make a good point - he wasn’t in a handicapped parking spot - he was on the street. It’s his moms car and he forgot to take the plaque down. Listen, when my dad was alive I drove his car a few times and didn’t realize the plaque was up there. It happens.
States need to start putting a photo of the disabled person on the plaque to make it easier to catch those who abuse the use of the plaques !!!
It's easier to run the tags or ask for the placard permit in your wallet.
It's great to catch people who don't really need the parking space but I've heard people say stuff to my mother about how she's not even disabled parking in those parking spaces she might not look disabled but she's had two total knee Replacements and over 7 back surgeries yes she is capable of walking without a limp but when she walks for long distances for long periods of time she is in a lot of pain so just because someone looks like they don't have a disability doesn't necessarily mean that they don't.
Tell me about it, I had total knee replacement in my right knee & now my left knee if fucked up because of my right knee, what I mean is I was compensating with my right knee which caused it to fuck up, so I can walk short distance but not long distance.
mike johnson if it makes you feel any better my mom's second knee replacement wasn't as bad as her first one, but she did have quite a few years between the two so I'm sure technology was a lot better when she had the second one

Birdie Perchy Unfortunately, you just have to get to a point where you don't care what people think. I'm not wheelchair bound yet. I do have a cane, but I know that people still give me looks. I just can't care anymore. I dream of a day that someone comes up with an invention that will help people understand that just because you can't see my disabilities doesn't mean they're not there. I'd love to be able to transfer my pain to someone that thinks I'm faking. 20 minutes with a pain disorder, arthritic spine, severe asthma, migraines and heart palpitations and they'll never give anyone with an actual placard grief again. Doctors don't hand them out just for kicks.

As a handicapped retired person, I have seen these cheaters all across this great country of ours as my wife and I travel in our class B motorhome. I am 73 handicapped and she is not so unless we find a motorized cart, she is the only who gets to go into the building for supplies. I wait in the motorhome until she returns.

I’m a 50-year-old man And I need use a walker. my doctor, my surgeon and the DMV all approved me for a handicap placard. Just the other day, I parked in a handicap spot in a car full of teenage girls also in a handicap spot got out and ran into the store because it was raining. The car to the right of me didn’t even have a placard or handicap plates.
