This is indeed a much better ending, for many reasons. For me the main one was the salvation of the genie instead of his death, which didn't seem fair given what we were told about genies only reflecting their masters' degree of good or evil. Oh, and...I think Rotten Tomato should have got a special invitation to the wedding ;)
I love that you were cheering along with everyone else at the end! While I DO still like 5 a lot (I even didn't really hate Cedric all that much), I can agree that this one is great too! I agree on all those points you made, and I respect your views on 5 regardless despite me actually liking it. Keep up the great work, Dilandau3000! I'm lovin' it! :)
Would it be fair to say if King's Quest V is a microcosm into why the genre died out, King's Quest VI is a microcosm as to why the genre still exists in people's hearts and would want to bring it back?
Thank you so much for this Let's Play! I used to play this game with my brother and dad when I was little, so it was a great trip down memory lane; we never finished it (we got stuck thinking we were supposed to use the Magic Paint spell to paint ourselves into a chessboard piece to get into Chessboard Land ... we were knaves ...), so it was great to see the ending and all the different options. Thanks again!
@Phanto5692 I let the ending song play without talking over it in the short path, and I uploaded it to my music channel, so I don't think you can complain about that. :P
EXCELLENT Let's Play! Thanks so much for all your effort making it! Years of not knowing the rest of the game have finally been cleared up :) Really enjoyed it.
Well, this is definitely the best King's Quest game, and it really gives me the urge to play... Quest for Glory. I still can't believe you haven't done QFG yet, Sven.
@@StuartSimon He's done Mass Effect, which is definitely an RPG. That being said, Quest for Glory is not a standard RPG, and leans pretty heavily into the adventure game side of things. QFG is also a Sierra franchise, and he's already done several full Sierra series already. So I don't really see it as that big of a departure from his normal LP choices to do QFG. But as always he is free to do what he chooses :)
This truly was the best King's Quest thus far! A perfect ending too. Only thing to make it more perfect is if Alexander freed Shamir, haha. Definitely looking forward to the next installment. I take it it'll be about Rosella? I did think of her and how she's the only one at the wedding without someone really.
Regarding “Girl in the Tower,” it was a very cool and bold move for Sierra to try to get fans to get radio stations to play it. That was creative marketing at its best for 1992, and imagine the publicity for this game, Sierra, and adventure games in general if it had worked as hoped! The Top-40-style end credit song tradition began with “Beauty and the Beast” in 1991. (I really wish “The Little Mermaid” had had one too, but that was too early.) I think the only possible reason the radio station plan backfired is that it was maybe too far ahead of its time. And that’s not a criticism either. Bold creative moves are where history gets made.
This game is really great! The gameplay is expecially GOOD. Since you do not have utter illogical puzzles and multiple winning paths. Random deaths are OK in my book... it makes it somewhat more realistic and exciting. Besides without any random deaths it would not be a KQ game!
@ConsciousCloud Both Valanice and Rosella take the spotlight the next time around. Unfortunately, KQ7 won't match the quality level of this one (though it's not a bad game imo).
Absolutely fantastic LP! Watching all of these videos brought back so many memories. I played this game countless times many years ago, and will always consider it one of the best games ever made! And thanks to your LP, I even learned about a couple of things you can do that I never knew about! Thank you for making my trip down memory lane such a pleasure, Sven! I'm very much looking forward to viewing your other LP's! :)
A wonderful game! With a wonderful music score. King's Quest VI and other "midi" games at the time (Transport Tycoon, Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D) was my main musical inspiration at that time - likely because a young kid like me also had the power to create similarly-sounding (but not as great) midi-based music. Thank you, Chris Braymen, and thank you, Sven, for a great playthrough!
Now that's a good ending! :) Thanks for all your work you put into this Let's Play. I really enjoyed watching you play this game, it's the best King's Quest, at least that I've seen. I have to agree with htilden42, I don't see how it could be topped.
You can always download the game again from your gog.com account, as often as you like. You can also install it as often as you like, on as many PCs as you like. There are no restrictions.
I said it under hercrabbiness' Let's Play of this as well, but if I were either Alexander or the princess in this situation, and I had just beaten the bad guy and everything was calmed down--the first order of business I'd do would be to fire the entire security staff. Honestly, with them completely ignoring the princess' cries and pleas for help in favor of the vizier for weeks on end, they're lucky the princess didn't publicly execute them at the end of the game. (Although, that would make for kind of a bummer of an ending.)
Well done, Sven! I really enjoyed this LP! I am a little puzzled by how Beauty suddenly ended up standing to the left of Beast at around 12:22! Did the genie accidently transport her?
I thought we decided there was no way any of Alexander's crew would make it back alive? Maybe we can blame the genie for that, too. Magic solves everything. Or maybe they got to the realm of the dead after Alexander left and Death was just like "...more of his friends? Ugh, just go." XD Awesome LP, by the way. Was a favorite game of my childhood, but I never managed to beat it.
Great let's Play Sven! This ending is a bit different than the one I got way back in the day so this is an extra treat for me....can't say I'm looking forward to King's Quest 7 though.
Sven, I see what you mean about this being far superior to KQ5. I was attached mostly to KQ5 because it was actually the first adventure game I ever played, in 1990. After a couple years' time, we had bought nearly every adventure game Sierra had made.
Thanks for the awesome play through, this brings back fond memories from a long time ago. It was nice to have the voice in there, the computer I was playing it on 20+ years ago didn't have the best of sound cards so I was stuck with the text.
I kinda feel like KQ 4,5, 6 and 7 was the arc of Kings Quest. KQ8 is actually better than I first thought from LPs I have seen but I think it would have been better off as a kind of spinoff or "Tales from Daventry" series or something like that. Of course KQ 1, 2 and 3 has their own place historically. Among them KQ1 is guess-the-gnomes-name-and-don't-fall-down historical and KQ3 is the better story IMHO.
Great series of videos covering one of my favorite games ever!! One thing you never went over was, in most of the disguised appearances of the genie throughout the game, you can give him either a mint from the pawn shop or a mint leaf from the cliff cave and he will reveal himself. Great review though
Amazing that this game had different ways to win. Earlier games had it that you didn't have to get every point, but it wasn't that there were two different games with different puzzles, like this here. Here you can omit some stuff and still get a somewhat happy ending, just not as great as if you get the maximum points. I'm glad that you did the longer path and that there was total peace at the end with everyone at the wedding.
"See to it that he gets a doctor" She says to the guards about the guy that murdered her parents and planned to murder her. There should've definitely been an ending with him being killed for sure.
I'd like to see a Quest for Glory/Kings Quest cross over. Sharack and Alhazred, along with society of the black cloak could have been in cahoots with the Avoozal cult.
@pornace I like to think Alexander could have gotten some more Styx water and just splashed it on Alhazred. Or... pretty much anyone who got in his way, really.
This game brings back so many memories glad I can at least watch it again even if I can't play it anymore due to my high end system. Although I suppose with Dosbox it would be possible but there's a small problem I can't find the KQ6 CD so I would need to find the files online. Cause obviously the diskette version will not work since no disk drive anymore.
How does that site work exactly when I purchase the game do they send me a cd in the mail or do they give me a link to the game online complete with a key to unlock the game
@WeaselKing1000 Does that mean that in King's Quest V, the genie Graham releases does what he does because Graham is a tyrant? Personally I like to believe that the genie says that to all his masters. "Oh master, thank you for releasing me from the service of that pathetic weakling!"
I found it interesting that after you are told that you got a perfect score that you could go back to a certain point and enter the castle an easier way and end up with an even higher score than the maximum of 231. I wonder if you saw this or tried this additional path?
This is indeed a much better ending, for many reasons. For me the main one was the salvation of the genie instead of his death, which didn't seem fair given what we were told about genies only reflecting their masters' degree of good or evil.
Oh, and...I think Rotten Tomato should have got a special invitation to the wedding ;)
Alhazred would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for those snooping kids!
I love that you were cheering along with everyone else at the end! While I DO still like 5 a lot (I even didn't really hate Cedric all that much), I can agree that this one is great too! I agree on all those points you made, and I respect your views on 5 regardless despite me actually liking it.

Well, this is definitely the best King's Quest game, and it really gives me the urge to play... Quest for Glory.
I still can't believe you haven't done QFG yet, Sven.
Does Sven even do games with a role-playing protagonist? I’m not counting Uru here: that’s pick your appearance, not your powers.
@@StuartSimon He's done Mass Effect, which is definitely an RPG. That being said, Quest for Glory is not a standard RPG, and leans pretty heavily into the adventure game side of things. I take it that at the time you made that comment, you had played KQ6 but not KQ7.
Regarding “Girl in the Tower,” it was a very cool and bold move for Sierra to try to get fans to get radio stations to play it. Alhazred: “You fight like a dairy farmer!”
Alexander: “How appropriate. You fight like a cow!”
King's Quest VI, aka "Oh hey, it's Tony Jay again!"
HOOOOOORAAAAYYYYYYY!!! There was like only 3 people cheering there WTF?!!
You can get KQ6 from gog.com in a bundle with KQ4 and 5 for $10.
This game is really great! The gameplay is expecially GOOD. Since you do not have utter illogical puzzles and multiple winning paths.

@ConsciousCloud Both Valanice and Rosella take the spotlight the next time around. Unfortunately, KQ7 won't match the quality level of this one (though it's not a bad game imo).
@Peteman12 Maybe he did it because Graham has a death wish? Which would actually explain a lot!
You get a download link, and there's no key, gog.com is completely DRM-free.
Wow! This game really was Sierra’s magnum opus! 👑
A wonderful game! With a wonderful music score. Thank you, Chris Braymen, and thank you, Sven, for a great playthrough!
@pallirao I never noticed that before... that's a weird glitch!
Now that's a good ending! :) Thanks for all your work you put into this Let's Play. I really enjoyed watching you play this game, it's the best King's Quest, at least that I've seen. I have to agree with htilden42, I don't see how it could be topped.
Did play it some really long time ago, still do not remmember huge chunk of the game. Thanks for great LP.
Great LP, I really enjoyed the commentary. Subscribed.
You can always download the game again from your gog.com account, as often as you like. You can also install it as often as you like, on as many PCs as you like. There are no restrictions.
It's also on Steam
Thanks for another great LP, Sven, and I apologize in advance for all the comments you're going to get from me during King's Quest VII.
I said it under hercrabbiness' Let's Play of this as well, but if I were either Alexander or the princess in this situation, and I had just beaten the bad guy and everything was calmed down--the first order of business I'd do would be to fire the entire security staff. GIRL IN THE TOOOWWERR
Well done, Sven! I really enjoyed this LP! I am a little puzzled by how Beauty suddenly ended up standing to the left of Beast at around 12:22! Did the genie accidently transport her?
Thank you Sven!
Perfect LP.
When I plaid this as a kid I naturally got the best ending and didn't even know there were alternate options.
I thought we decided there was no way any of Alexander's crew would make it back alive? Maybe we can blame the genie for that, too. Magic solves everything. Or maybe they got to the realm of the dead after Alexander left and Death was just like "...more of his friends? Ugh, just go." XD

hehe ^_^ I liked how you cheered along with them
Great let's Play Sven! This ending is a bit different than the one I got way back in the day so this is an extra treat for me....can't say I'm looking forward to King's Quest 7 though.
classic prince of persia fight at the end
Thank you so much. You have done a great job on this my Favorite KQ 6.
You are one of the best people on RUclips!
Sven, I see what you mean about this being far superior to KQ5. I was attached mostly to KQ5 because it was actually the first adventure game I ever played, in 1990. After a couple years' time, we had bought nearly every adventure game Sierra had made.
Wow! They got Don Messick and Russi Taylor as voice actors, as well as Robby Benson and Tony Jay! I'm impressed!
Superb LP.
Thanks for the awesome play through, this brings back fond memories from a long time ago. It was nice to have the voice in there, the computer I was playing it on 20+ years ago didn't have the best of sound cards so I was stuck with the text.
15:52 I wonder what Fresno State University's involvement was?
Have really enjoyed watching this.
Thank you for the time with all of this.
I'm surprised Queen Allaria didn't have any more lines for the wedding.
Great LP

Individualist DS Really? I never knew about the mint reveal trick! 🍃
Thank Valhalla?
I loved this playthrough of this beloved game from my childhood! Great commentary and your deep knowledge of this game made it a joy to watch!

The sea voyage took months and the ship was wrecked.... how did the crew get back home?!
Mawwaige!
Saladin: "Have you the wing?" 😏
By my Scimitar 3:19
Finally got to experience the game
@PhantomJerad When it's ready. I don't know yet, exactly. Hopefully soon, but it depends on how busy I am with work. Just be patient.
The voices of the queen and princess are the same as in 7
@PhantomJerad Then you know where it is: coming soon, but not today.
12:22
I'd like to see a Quest for Glory/Kings Quest cross over. Sharack and Alhazred, along with society of the black cloak could have been in cahoots with the Avoozal cult.
@pornace I like to think Alexander could have gotten some more Styx water and just splashed it on Alhazred. Or... pretty much anyone who got in his way, really.

@Mestherion The other KQ6?
Very enjoyable LP. Two thoughts about the genie. 1 - What happened to the 3 wishes rule? And 2 - I thought that genies couldn't kill.
I'm sure it was because Death just let them go.xP He probably never wanted to Alexander again until it was his time to go.:p
@Peteman12 Good point. Depends on whether you're willing to accept slight discrepancies between the KQ games I guess.
You would lose because you become too tired to continue. You need the princess to help you out and distract Abdul.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaw!
does the link work infinite times after you purchase it or do you have to buy it again
That didn't sound like cheering it sounded like they were screaming in pain at that wedding haha
@pallirao She's now beast's wife so why shouldn't she be there?
Haha on 12:49 Johlo looks like he's stinkin' drunk!
@Mestherion For want of a comma lol
end song is so 80s
Doink! 5:00
On their wedding night, Cassima left Alexander when he asked her to dress like a wizard and he kept calling her Mannanan.
Nice bait.
