I love this video! The compass is a cheap value entry level gun. It's like playing the lottery. I know Johnny reloading bench likes his, but that just means he happened to get a good one. You cannot return or exchange firearms like a pair of jeans that don't feel right. You are stuck with what you get. Although I am happy for Johnny's success; it is important not to hype up a terd. This proves that you get what you pay for. Im sure you can find a load that works in the compass but the fact is. Berger bullets are across the board amazing, and they are what does the job in the end. You should be able to have confidence in your equipment. 3 in. Groups at 100 yds in no wind equals 8 in off or more on a cold snowy day at 200 yards.
I also use berger classic hunters In My 6.5 creedmoor tikka t3x hunter. But I shoot RL-17 or h4350 both at 2.810 OAL. Groups are very impressive. Between .3 inches and .5 inches. All with almost no recoil.
On my TC Compass in 7 mag I installed a Harrells precision adjustable muzzle break. I was able to find the sweet spot on my barrel and the gun shoots 1/2 MOA (3 shot groups) with several loads. Especially in a hunting rifle I think this is a necessity! You could of had this load, or any other load, dialed in in just one range session. It's something you should consider testing. I think it would be of great benefit to your viewers.
I have thought about trying one of those out. My biggest concern is the "gunsmith install" like they arent the correct size. I hate sending people on a goose chase if it doesn't work right out of the box. I have seen JRB test them, but haven't got there yet.
Bolt Action Reloading Its not that tough. When your order it they will send you the correct size for caliber. You only need shims to install it where you can get the gauge scale straight up. I watched JRBs test. He didn’t spend much time with it. From what I can tell it’s well worth the effort!
My tc compass is at its absolute worst, 1 moa. Typically group size is .5 moa or less. I bet your problems is the muzzle device hanging off the end. It affected his group size tremendously. So far mine likes Hornady 143eldx which is a similar style hunting bullet and the all mighty Nosler accubond.
Well you should've looked at other videos on the Compass before you bought whatever you did. Listen to what he said,..he worked up a load in one rifle and tried in another. Success rate of that, given headspace, barrel characteristics, type of action and tolerances..about 0%. Not trying to be an a$$..but there are VERY good groups to be had with the TC Compass, and lots of data to back that up.
I also use the 135g Berger for hunting deer and coyotes with my 6.5 Creedmoor. The next time an animal takes a step after getting hit with one will be the first time. I use it with 42.3g H4350, Fed 210 primers and Hornady brass. The COAL is a vanilla 2.800" and produces 2866 fps at the muzzle with a single digit SD with my 24" Bartlein barrel. The only downside is the 135g Berger CH destroys a lot of meat and it is NOT pelt friendly on coyotes. ** Use load data at your own risk folks **
I've been playing with this same load from my Ruger predator and had much better result than you had with your compass although not spectacular and certainly not as good you RPR or as my 130 Bergers with RL17 . Hey BAR, I was wondering if you could share some of your wisdom and experiences with me. I finally got my hands on some RL-26 and am about to begin some Satterlee load tests in my 6.5 Creedmoor. Problem is, is that I primarily only use Lapua brass which is small rifle primed. Have you used this powder in small rifle primer brass and if so what was your experience? I'm thinking it'd probably be better to switch to some large rifle brass and even use magnum primers. Currently I use cci 450 in my brass and after I trial those loads perhaps I'll also compare some with Remington 7 1/2's to compare to the large rifle and large rifle mag primers. See how hotter ignition effects the loads. Thanks
I have mostly used this with LRP brass but its my hunting load. The rem primers will probably do ok but show pressure much sooner. I dont think you would go wrong with the cci-450s either. Most of my SRP creedmoor has been using the cci-41.

Should make for a decent test of brass performance using the Satterlee method anyways. Seems like a really slow powder to be using in a 6.5. People around here have been getting very good results from powders around H4350, RL19, IMR4350, W760. Still, the RPR didn't let you down. Happy hunting :)
I just get visions of bucket loads of unburnt powder roaring out the muzzle when using the lighter pills with the slow powder, lol. But if the results are there.......
I've tested R17, H4350, IMR4451, Superformance and H414. They all shoot well in my AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Some groups are 1/2 at 100. The Hornady 143 ELDX shoots well regardless of powder. 140 Nosler RDF is more picky as is the 130 Sierra TGK.
@@BoltActionReloading Makes sense. I got some load data from Berger on the 156 grain EOL 6.5 bullets. They gave me loads for H4350, RL-16, and RL-26. So far they are very accurate with H4350 and RL-16 but I can't find RL-26 anywhere.

If you have the time, try the H4350 and the standard COAL. It would be a heck of a lot easier than lugging that RPR around the woods.

I hear Bergers do not hold together and penetration sucks. Might be ok for deer but not elk. Hit a bone = lost meat

RL 26 gets some crazy velocities while keeping the pressure under control. Works great in lots of stuff.

If you loot at percent burned in quick load its 99.9% on the 24" barrel if I remember correctly.
Haven't got QL, so all I can say is "Holy CRAP"!! Really? That changes everything, lol. I was expecting a lot less efficiency than that.

This load was worked up in the rpr a while ago so technically yes. However that was probably 1500 or so rounds ago.

That first shot is the one that will hit the deer when hunting you dont get a warm up shot on deer just saying
Oh I agree. I had run a snake through it though so it was technically "clean". I would have always had a fouling shot after cleaning/ before hunting.
