Chris Stuckmann reviews Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Abbey Lee, Courtney Eaton. Directed by George Miller.
This is the most heavy metal movie I've ever seen.
True
Hell Yeah.
OfficialEVANLUTION see shot'em up, mad max fury road has a competition
TheEriczeppe 😐😐
There’s a movie coming out called Mandy with Nicholas Cage with 100% in RT and people say it’s pure madness and kinda inspired by Heavy Metal.
One of the things I loved a lot about this movie was the color. The contrast between the orange sand and the blue sky made almost each and every shot beautiful.
You can freeze this movie at any time and you have a poster for your wall.
+EinBick So true.
+EinBick even the moment where the camera lingers on the fat women getting milked?
You're saying it's like it's wrong or something.
Apparently George Miller's favorite version is a black/white/chrome version of the movie that I would love to see as well. It be interesting so see how different it would be without the colors you mentioned.
As somebody who has never seen a mad max movie i must say that i loved every second of it and i saw it twice
Totally the same here🙋
check out the road warrior, it takes place after fury road
Hakop Ekizyan I will! thank you for telling me! Damn... I love this thing too much! Hahaha
Hakop Ekizyan wait really?? I thought this was a sequel to them all
There are four movies, they go in this order, Mad Max, Mad Max Fury Road, Mad Max the Road Warrior, and finally Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. They go in that order by story, then again this is just what I think
2021... still one of the best action films ever made.
yesss best movie everrrrrrrr
Why do i disagree? I don’t get the hype around this movie, i heard so much about it and finally watched it this evening (i had not seen any of the movies of this franchise). And i was very disappointed.
There was so much grotesque and violence which i failed to find a sense and purpose for. If there is some kind of allegory for me it got buried under the gore and the vulgarity of some scenes.
Like why do they believe in Valhalla, and i almost laughed out loud when he said « McFeasting ». Alongside that i had heard that Furiosa had this deep sad story but i wasn’t really moved when it was uncovered as she barely had any lines and we just saw her fighting for 1h.
I don’t know maybe i’m just not the type for enjoying this kind of violence in movies!
@@smiley122688 Fury Road was not that violent (Its my personal experience tho). It's shortage of dialogue is amazing. The amount of visual storytelling george miller did in this movie is amazing. Every shot in this film says a thousand words. Immortal Joe is like a god to them. He made the war boys believe in valhalla. It works like a cult of some sort. The movie had a simple story to tell but not a dumb one. It's perfect. Even the action sequences is crafted in such a way that we can understand the world they are currently in right now. I respect your opinion. In my opinion this movie is a masterfully handcrafted piece of art that uses practical effects and CGI together perfectly and gives us an extreme Cinematic experience
@@sydneygoodman3725 It was nice to read your perspective. I can’t deny that if the movie leaves that impression to so many people it has to be a good one. Actually, i also recall enjoying a couple of scenes very much, but i guess it was just not my type of storytelling. Regarding the violence to me the perfect balance i have found in a movie must have been in The Revenant, or The Hateful Eight! I don’t know if you have seen these ones.
@@smiley122688 @Anton Struzik Tarantino has a unique way of portraying violence in his movies. The Revenant was also good. I would like to know your thoughts about the violence in the korean movie "I saw the devil"
What a movie!
OH, WHAT A LOVELY MOVIE!!!
I understand that reference
I’m rewatching this movie again tonight.
WITNESS ME!!!!
Bad rhythm. I think "What a film! WHAT A LOVELY FILM!" sounds a tad better.
Just watched it... It's incredible..
Can’t believe how many people think this was good. Just shows how many of you have poor taste. Was pretty boring.
Believe me, guys, Chris isn't exaggerating this time.
Mau Jo You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
Mau Jo yeah, the exact word is overacting.
Mau Jo Just got back from the show. I completely agree. George Miller is a fucking miracle man for the action genre. I'm going to be seeing this again in IMAX.
Mau Jo im still reeling. i literally cant stop thinking about how fucking good this movie is
Sawyer Gaines And I haven't been able to stop listening _Brother in Arms_!
I'm so FUCKING pissed that I never got the chance to see this incredable film in Cinema. There is a giant hole in my life.
Ronan Slevin If you pay attention to the theaters around you, you might find a special showing for it. I'm planning to see it on the big screen soon :)
yes omg.
Wow. As well you should be. Sorry, but that's the simple truth. This film was a CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE not to be missed. Not trying to rub it in, I swear. I saw it four times. The only movie I ever saw in theaters that many times was 'The Fifth Element'. Saw 'Logan' 3 times. That was excellent as well. But yeah, this is one of those rare films I pretty much refuse to watch if it's NOT on the Big Screen!
Yeah bro you really missed a special experience.. this movie is my personal best theatre experience.. every movie I watch in cinema. I always compare it to Mad Max: fury road
@@ManinderSingh-op4sm ya same here my friend who never even heard of the movie went in blindly and he loved it and says it's the best movie he has seen in theatre. For me it was too it was so dope.
I’m sorry, but it’s the end of 2019 and I still believe this is the best action movie of the decade.
Don't be sorry, you're right.
It's the best movie of the 2010's decade
Watched it with my son in 4k yesterday... gets better every time. My 2nd favourite film of the decade. Monumental achievement.
The Raid Redemption?
for my money it's the best since Apocalypto for sure - they're my two favorite action movies of the century so far
Mad Max: Fury Road was, to quote Shakespeare, "fucking awesome."
Well said shakepere.
true story
Mind you, “What a lovely day!” is said by Captain Ahab on the morning of the final showdown with Moby Dick in Melville’s novel...
500th like
The film was balls to the wall "fucking AWESOMEEEE!!!".....no other way to put it
Mad Max > Age of Ultron. Enuff said.
riskbusin3ss That's really not a hard comparison
Tony Stark > Bruce Wayne. Done.
riskbusin3ss wtf?
Bruce Wayne
Bruce Wayne > Tony Stark
Catwoman > Captain America
Bane > The winter soldier
Green Lantern > The avengers.
Judge Dredd where are you going with this? please explain.
Every shot of this movie should be a poster
Same about blade runner 2049
And same as Arrival
What about the scene where they had a milking chamber full of fat chicks
I had a couple hours before my doctor's appointment for Erectile Dysfunction so decided to watch Fury Road. Needless to say, after the movie, I cancelled my appointment.
This movie is visual Testosterone
Its quite eostrogen fueled too
Like did you see how badass furiosa was?!!
lol
It's weird seeing Chris freak out.
***** It really is.
We usually see him freak out in a bad way.. but oh what a lovely day
MarkDeMort He used to freak out a lot if you saw his Inception review
It was a bit of a Jerry Seinfeld freak out.
MarkDeMort He's gone MAD!!!!
This is the first mad max movie I saw, and I thought it was amazing.
I highly agree with you!
hell yeah it is!
Same here, thought it was nice and action packed, but the story confused me alittle, I guess I gotta see the first few
+Zach Rios Same, I thought this was a reboot or something so I didn't know I should have watched the first ones.
Wtf???? It was the first mad max movie for me too and infact I couldn't understand the fucking plot... how can you say you enjoyed that?
Fingers crossed Fury Road doesn't get beat at the box office by Pitch Perfect 2........
Jon Winkler right because as we all know the box office has a *great* track record of stupid movies *not* beating out better movies.
It might, just because the 1st Pitch Perfect came out more recent than the other Mad Max movies. And it's PG-13 compared to R. But as long as it earns a profit, that's what matters. That will lead to more sequels.
Movie Reedviews it cost 150million to make thats a lot of asses on seats needed to turn a profit .....150m like every movie these days costs more than a skyscraper to build
dark1810 I was just saying that the production company over Mad Max probably only cares about the profits. It would be an added bonus if it was "the #1 movie that weekend" but they just want it to do well in the long-term.
oh ya i agree i was just shocked earlier when i seen how much it costs is all im sure they would be pleased with a 400-500m haul ....its just nutty a film about car tribes in Australia needs to make that sorta money back and must be such a risk
2020 now and this movie actually ended up being the best action movie of the decade lol
Decade doesn't finish till 2021
@@Wakka00Wakka wut? yes it does haha. Start of 2010 to end of 2019 is 10 years
@@SledTillDead They're a bit special
I just watched this movie thinking I would watch 30 minutes and then the rest the next day, but I’ve never been more entertained and amazed by a film than this
Mission Impossible: Fallout>
Jeez, your list of action movie milestones is spot on, which means I have to see this movie.

Hey wheezy 👋
Maybe Aliens missing...
Aliens? No.@@mosesalikhan8759
I hate people like that person complaining behind you who have no appreciation for certain genres. I DON'T GET IT! Why is it that people find some genres inferior. I love sci-fi, fantasy, drama, action, romance, animated, comedy, horror, etc. To me there are 2 genres of movies that matter; good and bad.
Trevor Tharp My mom's the same every time she has to see a sci-fi movie she's like "meh that wasn't very good" no matter how great the movie actually was and it infuriates me so much that it ruins the movie for me...
***** same here my mom only Likes romantic dramas that are all the same
*Cough* Tyler Perry
***** Isn't it terrible! Whenever I go to the theater I feel like I have to handpick who I go with. Otherwise I'm just like you and almost go nuclear when I ask my friend if he liked it and he says "Oh it was alright for a sci-fi flick, pretty cheesy but I guess it was ok." LIKE THAT'S NOT A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT THAT WARRANTS AN EXPLANATION FOR WHY YOU HATED THE MOVIE!!! btw that was a true quote after Edge of Tomorrow...I almost cried
It doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't appreciate the genre, maybe she just wasn't impressed by what she saw.
TManChristian you're right. I guess I interpreted her hatred of the film as a dislike for the action genre because it looks like Mad Max is basically 90% action. Also the action looks very well executed which wouldn't be able to redeem the movie for genre haters. Then again maybe I'm being unfair.
I thought this thing was going to be mediocre, but...
9.3 On IMDb
Ninety fucking Nine % on Rotten Tomatoes
90 on Metacritic
Chris flipping out
Holy shit I have to see this
***** I was actually impressed by the fact that the movie was able to give each and every character a unique personality in such a short time and in between endless action scenes. And how exactly was this movie exhausting and boring?
***** Have you seen any of the Mad Max? Have you read any of the Mad Max? Have you play any of the Mad Max?... it's call a "pure" action movie for a reason...
Scoop Scoopian agreed
***** Is it true it's a PG movie promoted as R?
***** youre pretty much wrong , this is far a better movie than Die Hard stop being a fanboy , you didnt like it ok , the movie is a masterpiece of its genre , and it will be remebered.
Before watching Mad Max: Fury Road I hadn't watched any older Mad Max movies and I was stunned by the brilliance of this movie. And not just the action pieces, that are undoubtedly excellent. I understood and enjoyed the story and could really relate with the characters, and also appreciated the outstanding performances of the actors. It's my second favourite movie after Interstellar.
Just saw this movie, it's AWESOME!
Cristian Banda How does it hold up to the Road Warrior?
pillsareyummy Not as good as Road Warrior but stillpretty amazing
Nineteen1900Hundred agreed 100%
I diidnt see the old one can i see fury road?
Dexter Morgan Yes.
Hopefully we don't have a Dredd and Edge of Tomorrow situation and people actually go see it.
I don't think it will. This movies been getting mad hype.
This has a big brand name behind it, but then again Tom Hardy isn't as big of a star as Cruise so maybe that will even out the brand name advantage.
***** No. It didn't do well in the box office, which is what matters.
G4nst4Ch33se You can't be serious. Box office means they have the oportunity for a sequal. People need to go see it in order for it to be a complete success, both matter, not just one.
G4nst4Ch33se Not to the people who spend money on the film. The audience (who did go) might like it but if a film fails at the box office, don't expect a sequel or a film like it any time soon. Just look at all the cult classics.
this is the 1st mad max movie i've seen and it's a fucking masterpiece!
Im with you, its the same with me. Didnt see the others yet, planning on it.
George Miller showed how it's fucking done!
Same for me.. watched it at one of the 3 largest cinema screens in my country (Denmark) on opening day (not premiere, opening day) and it was quite easily the best movie going experience I have had in quite a while... HOLY SHIT!!
Of course, I decided to buy the blu-ray collection of the other 3 films immediately, and did NOT regret it one bit
"Do or do not, there is no try."
Afonso Lucas i've watched the 1st and 2nd ones. 1st is really boring and 2nd is amazing.
As much as I love superhero films, one day people will be distracted by the aged graphics. Cause CGI just ages. This however will never fail to impress people
Haven't been this geeked for a movie in years!
I saw it Saturday at a screening, it was amazing! I was leaning forward in my seat almost the whole movie.
***** when can we expect an unboxing and review of this movie
***** holy cow! DEE DETROIT BORG anf Chris!
This movie is going to ROCK!
***** I haven't been this geeked since Godzilla, then Man of Steel then Prometheus...... so pretty much every year.
Your enthusiasm was identical to mine. It was so good I watched it two nights in a row. A gift from the action film gods.
Little Blizzard amen to that.
George Miller: "You're welcome."

Already watch it three times, every time I watch it's more awesome than before!!
jerry133226 Same here, everytime was so exiting as the first one.
jerry133226 hey can you tell me what part of the movie has the scene where the lady is standing on the electrical tower and she is wailing?
It's when Furiosa meets with the Many Mothers (the old ladies) and they tell her the Green Place dosn't exist anymore.
Alex Olivos Lima thanks I wanted to see that scene so I could judge weather the scene was too graphic for my brother to watch, since I read that it was the most revealing of shots
jerry133226 ..And of course you payed to see it in theaters all 3 times right? ::wink::
I'm in 2024 and I like to go back to this review in hard times just to see a person being so happy about a movie. It brings me a lot of joy watch him be this enthusiastic about a movie.
I haven't seen a movie with this much hype backlash since Frozen... If you think this is a bad film, then guess what? You're part of the problem. If this won't impress you, nothing will.
Fury Road was dope!
It doesn't have a ton of fan backlash, but I've seen some (who are just idiots looking to hate on what's popular).
It has had so much backlash because the original mad max films were iconic Australian films, Australian setting, Australian actors, Australian cars but in fury road they took all of that out and replaced it with a everything but things Australian, even when the interceptor was wrecked it was the last thing that was right. So that's why i call it a bad American remake, because it is
+MegaFriendlyCreeper yeah i know. this movie has 200 pages of board posts on imdb.
+cameron noble Mad by the same Australian director mate so quit your fucking whining and try to appreciate it for what it is.
My friends are making me watch pitch perfect 2... I wanna cryy. But I'll force my friends to watch this one for sure.
Joan Cassie You shouldn't have to convince anyone to watch Mad Max, they should be just be convinced to watch it period by now. I know I'm going by myself, my friends only go see a movie after they hear from a 10000 people that it's good, so I don't even bother recommending anything, lol.
kaatyblue Although, if your friends go that means more money to Mad Max, so yes. Haha.
Joan Cassie Listen to meeee! They are not your friends! Believe in meeee! Go and see MAD MAX! Because it's such a lovely day!
Joan Cassie Pitch Perfect 2 is one of the best movies of the season. Fury Road is the best movie of this generation.
Good luck my friend
This is an action movie for filmmakers. Only filmmakers and film enthusiasts will understand the balls it took to make this movie. To a regular movie goer it will look like just another action film, a pretty weird one at that. To action movie enthusiasts it will look like a good action movie. To filmmakers it's brilliant. It goes against so many of the cliches that have been plaguing the genre in recent times, while embracing the cliches that made action movies great in the eighties and early nineties. All that plus godlike cinematography.
Yea because I've never seen any of these and I found it to be so weird (especially when they spray paint their face and say Valhalla lol)
Yep and I would bet history will prove all the haters wrong. Possibly, 20 years down the road and the same people saying they hated it will be singing its praises so they won't be left out of the majority who love it. It's not an uncommon occurrence unfortunately.
To a regular movie goer? I disagree. Even they know how unique this film looks
Vinny Raptor I´ve seen many of them say "meh, just another action movie."
Lord Baktor ok, that is true. They need to open their eyes.
I just watched it for the fourth time.....never gets old. An absolute blast! One of the most relentless and real action movies of all time.
I'm praying to GOD I hope this movie does good in the box office!

it's 2019 and this is still the best movie review by Chris Stuckmann! So much emotion!
I'm not sure if he's given an A+ since, apart from his classic/nostalgic reviews. They've become really rare.
Ya hahah, he's become kinda grumpy lately, esp ever since going to his directing school. Bummer, he was awesome in this review. Like a whole other person :/
@@NewhamMatt He gave an A+ to several movies this year I'm pretty sure?
@@flawedsanity Yes. They've all been concentrated at the end of this year, so my previous comment is out of date.
Watch the Blade Runner 2049 review.
Wow, don't let the fast & the furious fanboys hear you say it's the greatest action movie of the decade, they'll tear you a new one Chris. ( wasn't including myself cause I couldn't care less about the fast series )
Fuck Fast and Furious with its nonsense stunts and defying laws of physics in a "realistic" action movie
Amen to that brother! The mad Max franchise may be old, but the fast franchise is one that has long overstayed it's welcome.
I think Fast 5 is one of the best action movies in 2010's and that's saying a lot about action movies. I like the later Fast movies, but Max can steal that crown. It might even be better than Avengers 2, and I LOVED that movie.
I haven't seen avengers 2 yet, but based on the mixed reactions I've heard about it, I saix Mad Max will have no problem kicking it's ass
PurpleGuy Vincent Mad Max = Fast and the Furious for Grown Ups
Omg, the emotions , I was feeling the same after seeing it for the first time )
I bought the Blu-ray and the artbook, watched the film like 6 times and I wanna see it again and again because it' so damn good
And I'm not even a fan of action films at all
And when it came back in cinema just for a week at the end of summer 2015 I was actually screaming and jumping of happiness)

I enjoyed this movie but to be honest I think its a little overhyped. I think The Revenant was a much better movie and was my favorite movie of 2015
Please not another Edge of Tomorrow/John Wick. Seems like the good action movies don't do great at the box office.
Edge of Tomorrow was bad in my opinion
McAlister Higgins I'd suggest seeing a psychiatrist, because there is something seriously wrong with you.
***** I wouldn't say that because opinions do not mean it's true. If he doesn't like it, then he doesn't like it. Period. End of story.
I like the movie myself, I thought the storytelling was good and the humor was pretty good and the movie was pretty entertaining. If it didn't do well in the box office, then I guess not many people saw how good it was and that's a shame for them.
vinnievu1 What I said, in certain social circles I think is referred to as a "joke." Mine in particular was a hyperbolic statement played for laughs rather than reason. An alien concept I'm sure, but please try to consider it.
***** Fuck off with you people not understanding that people have different opinions
The Road Warrior is a classic, but Fury Road is a cinematic masterpiece. Sorry, Road Warrior nostalgia fanboys.

Fury Road's "breaking point moment" (coined by Chris in "The Problem with Action Movies Today" video): Max hanging upside down on the side of the War Rig as Furiosa struggles to keep hold of his foot after getting stabbed on the ribs. Immortan Joe passes by with one of the wives already captured, and leads his biggest trucks to trap the rig on all four sides. The music dramatically swells up to reflect this hopeless situation. Meanwhile, Slit sneaks inside the trap with the Interceptor and speeds up to ram Max.
With the sudden change of music, the turning point comes when Furiosa rams the Interceptor into the Gas Town leader's truck, killing Slit. Nux, after fixing one of the engines, then emerges from underneath the rig and pushes Max towards said truck. Max grabs onto the vehicle, hijacks it, then speeds up to free the rig from the trap. With two gigantic vehicles in our heroes' possession, the battle rages on.

I was wary going into this movie because it was my first experience with the Mad Max franchise and had heard that these movies are very weird and all of the characters are insane and that these movies aren't for everyone. And I would have to say that I totally agree, almost everything about this movie was weird, the characters especially were extremely oddball and really out there and yet...I loved it. This is not just one of my favourite action movies of all time, it's one of my favourite movies of all time and this is what reaffirmed my belief in modern action movies. Mad Max: Fury Road deserves an A++
Good lord, the hype backlash... it's starting. Quickly, Fury Road fans, to the bunkers!!! We need to remind people why this movie is really freaking good.
***** Mhm girl. (Sassy head nudging)
+MegaFriendlyCreeper We can't have overwhelming acclaim about something these days without backlash. It's a sad reality of the hipster culture we have been raised in. The fact that everyone has to go against the norm these days ruins positivity. People see that something has universal acclaim, so they CAN'T RESIST but to claim that they dislike it. From Fury Road, to The Last of Us, to Aaron Rodgers. EVERYTHING that receives near universal acclaim will garner inevitable backlash by the hipster culture. There's no escape bro.
MHM. Yes sir (Singng loudly) Preach IT!!

N1KKO PLAYS Yeah, but the one on PS4 is awesome. The one on XB1 is "meh, it's better on PS4".
+I Bramblebush nah it's better on PC.

Bullshit.
I see a lot of arguments that Mad Max can't be a feminist movie because the female characters have to rely on a man. They clearly don't understand what feminism means because they think it's just about showcasing "bad-ass" women and putting the focus on them and BLAM now you can market to the female gender. That is not how feminism in movies work. They work when they show women and men as equal beings whose quality of character can be identified with by any member of the audience. Women in "feminist" movies can cry, show weakness, die, and *gasp* rely on a man. And I know this works in Fury Road because I don't see Max and a truck full of women, I see a group of people trying to survive.
I liked the movie well enough, though I can certainly understand some criticisms about it supporting the rather stereotypical gender roles of "women are innocent and men are monsters who have to prove their innocents and desire to protect women". What I didn't like was how Furiosa felt it necessary to rescue the most protected and pampered people in the whole show while not trying to help any of the bloodbags who were also being farmed and treated far far worse than anyone else. It did rather give the impression of men vs women with only one good guy in the whole show(2 if you count the bad guy who became good later).
WhatIsMisophonia Those women were not pampered. They were sex slaves. Nothing about their situation was comfortable, or good. They deserved to get out as much as anyone who didn’t want to serve under Immortan Joe’s tyranny.
How could Furiosa have rescued the blood bags? They’re constantly tired and would be in no shape to travel, cause, y’know, they’re being used as blood bags.
Furiosa rescued the harem because she was close to them, she could trust them, it was an incredibly difficult thing to get those girls out and she couldn’t risk bringing anyone else who could potentially betray her for Immortan Joe’s favour. Furthermore, bloodbags are male as far as we see, and where Furiosa was trying to get to, her old clan, was only women, and would only have taken in women, because they were all they could trust.

This was the first Mad Max movie I had ever seen and I absolutely LOVED it. From the first opening scene, it was clear this was going to be a wild ride. It was so crazy, so creative and the action scenes were amazing. I came out of the theater stunned
Now it's time for furiosa. Anybody reading this in the future I hope it turned out great like this film
Why hasn't George Miller direct Cory in The House: Nevada Run? He signed on to write and direct about ten years ago.
supermariofan03 that's the dream
***** The role of a lifetime. That will surely get him his oscar.
Wutt?
Then who does Wizards of Waverly Place?
J.K. Rowling or Michael Bay?
StupidWizardFilms "Oh Cory, you a busta."
Just saw the movie...guys, i beg you from the bottom of my heart. Go watch this movie in the cinema, please for the love of god just do it. From the start to the end it's just absolute carnage. Every carflip was like a punch to the gut. I have never seen a action movie as intense, impressive and overall fucking nuts as this one. They have real flames, ACTUALL PYROTECHNICS! I am at a loss of word (maybe because i came from the movie halve an hour ago). Maybe it's just me who gets really into movies, but i can swear that this is the best action film i have ever seen.
So for the love of V8, Carwrecking, chrome mouthed, Banzai people killing baby jesus feeding of the gasoline of a flamethrower Guitar...watch this movie IN THEATER!
kristoffer olavesen Nope you're not alone...when a movie hits me in the gut, or in the face, or in the heart - I full on go "Mad" over it. Multiple viewings, try to get the word out to friends & family, I'll see it different theaters (IMAX, 3-D, 2-D, AMC, Arclight, Regal, dollar theaters and art house joints whatever)...and yes, Fury Road is one of those movies for me too my friend.
Only seen it twice (two screeners the past two weeks apart) but I'm for sure going again this opening weekend with friends who have not seen it. Movie of the Year for me. Pure cinema, and I don't care that the year is not even halfway through lol.
I agree! I just came from the cinema and it blew my mind. It's like a an amazing car chase from start to finish ...well actually, it is an amazing car chase from start to finish!
Do you ever get pissed when your friends won't go see the film you're Raving about? Mine just went "ill just watch it when it comes on piratebay" and i was "this" close to burning their house down with a guitar flamethrower.
I beleave that hell is a place where people never watch the movies you recommend them, and then every 100 years one do...and they sit on then mobile under the best scenes.
kristoffer olavesen i've never seen the other 3 movies, and ive heard that the older movies are a bit cheesy. is this different from them all?
Matt B Drawings I have never seen the movies either, so I really don't want to say anything. But yes, I've also heard that it's kinda cheesy.it came out during the 80's afterall.
Mad max best picture of 2016...major Oscar snub
There was definitely a snub but it took home the most oscars that night.
Disagree entirely. Spotlight deserved it more. You probably haven't seen Spotlight, either.
I have seen spotlight. good acting well directed but incredibly boring it should not have one best picture
Spotlight is an Oscar bait with its adapted screenplay and cast tailor made for Best Picture. The best films of the decade normally don't win the Best Picture. That's the truth.
I wouldn't say that considering the fact that it won practically every other Oscar.
Junkie XL is criminally underrated, he also deserved an Oscar nod for best original score for this masterpiece.
One of my favorite soundtracks of all time
Mad Max is definitely the best action film that came out this year.
As for your decade best question, please watch THE RAID REDEMPTION (2011). And then we can talk.
Farhad Hossain Masum I've never heard of The raid redemption, but if you're saying that movie can in any way compare to mad max, I'm watching it today!
For me, this is the ultimate action movie I have ever seen. Probably the only movie which matches the magnitude is The Matrix.
Farhad Hossain Masum Eh...I still say The Raid 2 BARANDAL (if that's how you spell it), is much better than REDEMPTION.
I still say though that they are equally good, but the story in the first one gets in the way of the crazy action, I feel at least. The second one to me blends the story and action PERFECTLY! But yeah, I do agree with you a bit.
For me, both Raid movies blended the stories perfectly. But I was more amazed at that because I wasn't expecting such a good story in any action movie.
Farhad Hossain Masum The Raid Redemption and the The Raid 2 are some of the best action movies I have ever seen.
I really liked the new Mad Max my only complaint is that it wasn't Australian enough.
So true!!
I honestly wasn't that enamoured with it.
It was a decent action film, yes, but it didn't feel like a _Mad Max_ film, it felt like an action film with Max in it. Scratch that, it felt like a 2-hour battle scene with Max in it. Not that that's a bad thing, but I was a bit disappointed about it.
It was more about Furiosa's journey than Max's, and unlike the Road Warrior which it was most similar to, it ended without a sense of closure - sure, Max leaves as he always does, but in RW he's driving off into the sunset, not just melting into the crowd. The other films also felt quite bleak at the end - sure, Max survived, but he's survived to go on driving thoughout the harsh wasteland that is post-apocalyptic Australia. This film ends with _literally every problem_ in the wasteland being fixed. Gas town and the bullet farm? Forces decimated. The citadel rulers? Gone. The war boys? No resistance at all (seriously. You turn up with the body of their leader, and apparently a warrior cult that worships that person isn't even a problem?). The rabble? All sorted, no need to worry about them, water for everyone! The citadel? Oh, that's got new rulers, and they're all perfect. It just felt a little too contrived.
There was also the girls. They looked great - but that's the problem. When you've been involved in a 24-hour chase in a dirty, grimy, greasy truck, with explosions, fire, and _fucking orange_ sand flying every which way, you do _not_ look like you're in the desert for a modelling shoot and acidentally wandered into the fight.
I thought there were too many cuts during the action sequences (the film averages something like 20 a minute which is just ridiculous), and the film seemed a bit too... orange (?) for what I think of when I hear "Mad Max". The colours were too vivid, as opposed to the washed-out look that the other films had. Oh, and whoever authorised there to be a Glock in the film should be taken out the back and shot with a Luger. It just didn't fit. Extended mag 1911, Tec 9, whatever. Just not a glock - it's too modern and too clean.
All in all, I found that it hit most of the criticisms of "the problem with action films today" - you talk about a film "always moving forwards" but an important part of that is having pauses in the action after particularly intense sequences where the hero can get back on their feet. Fury Road has these, but they're too far apart. I didn't find Max all that relatable here because he has no reason to do anything, he's just going along with others. The villain also wasn't too great. He seems like he _could_ be interesting, but has virtually no development and you don't know anything about him beyond "rules the citadel". The stunts were great, I'll give you that, but I never actually felt that Max was in danger during the film - he had moments where he had to fight, but he wasn't vulnerable. There was also no "breaking point moment" for Max.
Don't get me wrong. I _really_ enjoyed watching it, and it's one of my favourite films to come out this year. I'm definitely going to pick up a copy when it's relased on DVD. It was a great action film. It just wasn't a great Mad Max film.
IVIaskerade From what I've seen that's what the other Mad Max films were. Mad Max showing up to a place things are happening, he just wants to pass through but inevitably has to help to do so, then leaving. For better or for worse. Remember the ending to Road Warrior and Thunderdome, especially Thunderdome. It is very similar. But where those ended with someone else telling the story of Mad Max and his quiet exit, they just show it as he disappears into the crowd. It only feels different this time around because instead of there being whole tribes, Max is helping only a handful of women. The formula however is still the same. He tags along, helps where he can, then leaves when its resolved.
A lot of what you needed to know was done without saying it, something most action movies forget. Where a film made by Micheal Bay treat you like an imbecile and explain everything in long painful monologues, exposition, or flashback, George Miller lets you figure it out from the context. Max at this point is a broken man, as reflected in the shoddy state of his car, and his disheveled appearance in the movie; and haunted by the constant hallucinations of the dead that flash in his mind. It even impedes on his ability at least once as you may have caught during the climax.
You say he has no reason to do anything but he does. In the beginning it's to get away from the war boys that use him as a giant IV. Then it's to get his stuff back, but just him against an entire warband is something even his broken mind can see won't work.
Immortan Joe was another case of development being seen not heard. Shown as sickly and needing a mask for a clean source of air, you learn plenty about him in the first 15 minutes of the movie. The cult he has built around himself, the constant need for literal new blood to keep his followers alive, the state of those who beg for his water, and his harvesting of milk. That tells you right there he is intent on rebuilding a world with the strong, taking those that are young, fit, and little to no mutation, keeping them alive as best he can in a world that has none of the conveniences of today. Then you see his wives and their various states of pregnancy and how he is focused on getting the kids back. That is all you need for development. You can figure it out that he is near death and he wants to have at least one healthy heir before he expires. All he has right now is a midget whose limbs have atrophied and a musclehead who clearly has the strength but not the brains to rule.
You say he wasn't vulnerable yet you forget his most vulnerable moment, being stuck as a hood ornament on a car, his life in the hands of a maniac determined to find a glorious death. Or during the climax when he was either outmanned, outgunned, or outclassed by any of the three warbands at any time. I'd go into more detail but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched it. Just remember when he points at that guy and says "That's mine!", or the Doof Wagon part...
IVIaskerade I love the movie because George Miller has been working on this world for over 40 years and never had full budget or technology to make his dream movie come true. This feels like the movie he always wanted to make. He enriches his universe and keeps the mystery alive, something George Lucas couldn't. He takes focus away from Mad Max for more interesting characters. I watched all three Mad Maxes before seeing the fourth one in one day, and I have to say the first one never gives a great feeling of a post apocalyptic world. The second one does more of that but the scale is too low for me to believe in it more. The third one took the scale and flipped it upside down so you can't take anything serious. This one is perfect because you see George Miller's vision crystal clear, that's what I love about it.
IVIaskerade
1. The movie is supposed to be a stand alone film. Road Worrier is very different from the original Mad Max. Beyond Thunderdome is REALLY different from the previous. I still thought it was a lot like a mad max film. Keep in mind in Road Warrior Max had under 20 lines of dialogue. His character arch is played visually in both films; it is the basics of the medium, after all. So Max having little dialogue was intentional because his arch was visual, while Furiosa had a more dialogue driven arch. The little dialogue seemed like both an homage as well as keeping in line with the Max character (while also sticking to showing, not telling.)
2. The movie was also played out in a fairy tale like tone. It had a lot of themes of a fairy tale as well. I.e the wise sages (who are good at shooting people) the silent cowboy-esque character, the oppressing villain who people look up to, the rebels who free the oppressed people, the rebel who gets crowned leader for his/her good deeds. It's very basic and yet done in such a fleshed out way, I think.
IVIaskerade I felt the same way. Spoilers ahead, stop reading now, if necessary. When Nux just completely switches sides after his complete and total religious devotion to Immortan Joe and their cause, it just felt so contrived to me. Nux was basically a foiled suicide bomber. I just don't picture religious extremists changing sides so quickly and easily. Also, I didn't like the choice of all the flamethrowers and flames shooting from the guitar. I agree with Chris that they look cool but it just seemed unrealistic to me where gas is such short supply that you would waste it like that. But I think I am in the minority here and there is an audience for this movie for sure, it's just not me.
OrigMedia I think the gas shortage has been sorted in Fury Road, at least for Immortan Joe, by the alliance with Gas Town.
The flamethrowers, too, are consistent with this. One of the ways wealth has historically been displayed was to waste something valuable, implying you had so much power that the struggles of everyone else don't apply to you. That, and a bunch of over-excitable war boys would be _bound_ to shoot their loads too early (pun intended).
Watching this on 2019. Where has Chris's enthusiasm gone?

This movie is the best Mad Max movie and it is basically CPR for the action genre
Wologan B. True well Mad Max has enough action in it to be considered an action movie. I still enjoy it but it's my 3rd favorite Mad Max movie. Mad Max Fury Road is 1 and Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior is 2
Captain Jakemerica CPR??

Captain Jakemerica don't forget the raid movies

The Scarecrow I just saw it. I was even more excited than Chris. One of the best action films ever and one of the best films of this century. I am going to see it multiple times in the theater. Absolute A+
The Scarecrow better than t2 or the predator ?

2024 near still one the best action movie ever
The original Mad Max movies were a big part of my childhood, and my appreciation of movies began with things like Jaws, Die Hard & Mad Max. I'm SUPER relieved & incredibly excited to see this film.

Jaws is more of a thriller than a action movie

Leos Carax im pretty sure he said best action movie of the decade, not the best movie of the decade
Leos Carax yeah, I mean best ACTION movie of the decade, sorry. I was so excited... all that hype energy, you know:'D
ToxicTV Yes there were some good effects, but lets not deny the massive amount of CGI that was still present..
Alex Rosendall massive amount of CGI? are you kidding me? 80% of this movie is practical! and CGI is a great thing, actually. without CGI we would never saw "real" dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, or creepy T-1000 from Terminator 2. the problem is, in our days movie makers rely on CGI VERY heavily! Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 popularized CGI, but there is huge difference between those two movies and tons of shitty modern movies when it comes to visual effects...and that difference is the presence of the practical effects! real set, real props, real explosions, real stunts! but there is scenes like that sandstorm from Fury Road, when you can't do it without CGI. this movie is a good example of combination practical effects and CGI!

Totally agree! I liked how Miller was able to tie the franchise together and paid homage to the previous movies throughout this movie. Having Hugh Keays-Byrne back to play the villain was an epic move. I also liked how Theron's character is actually the drive of the movie and Max is just along for the ride. Miller's good at breaking rules too, which is always refreshing. The way he makes the audience think there may be romantic links with characters, then going "Nope!" is great. I hope he makes another Max movie, but honestly, I really don't think he can top this one.
+Budhag Rizzo Mad Max: The Wasteland is coming in few years.
I loved this movie! Better than that, I took my 16 year old son and he loved it too! I'm a Mad Max fan since the first movie. And it was nominated for Best Film at the Oscars! Wow!

Gregory mantonios I guess personal opinion isn't allow then? If he thinks it's the best movie of the decade that his opinion. I don't know why the idea of an opinion is a hard concept on the internet...

The soundtrack of it is also cool! The flamethrower guitar followed me in my dreams...

John Wick 4 ?
John wick movies aren't not even close. Mad Max Fury Road is a *masterpiece* .
True that

One of my favorite scores of all time
Dont go see any other movies this year..... Star Wars VII?
charon7111 Star Wars is cursed, we all know that. Though, it does look pretty kewl.
charon7111 WELL...uh... ...hm. Good call.
Who even knows? I want it to be good, but I don't know.
charon7111 Pssh, Star Wars: Legend Of Korra is gonna be just as bland and underwhelming as the Star Trek rehashes; banking on NOSTALGIAAAAA to make up for a rushed/boring/generic character development and flashy yet still Hollywood typical action sequences. I really don't know why everyone is so excited for that movie other than it having the Star Wars name on it.
charon7111 For the record, I'm excited about them too but....remember how "great" the last three ones were? :( :( :(
The reason Mad Max 3 wasn't great was that George Miller only directed the action sequences, not the rest of the movie, he contributed a small amount to the plot

Oh, well I guess I could've worded it in a less stupid way then, haha. Just for the record I did know about which came first when I wrote the comment.
Before Fury Road: "Action movies are shit nowadays with shaky cam and too many cgi"
After Fury Road: "Overrated. Has too much action. No story. bla bla bla...."
That is true, but not the reason I think this movie is overrated. I'm sorry, but I did not like this movie... I have seen all the Mad Max movies, and I thought they were OK (except the third one), and I thought this movie also was mediocre. Yeah, on a technical aspect this movie is great, I won't deny that, and everything is just insane. The movie tries to get emotional, but I never really felt that I should care. Yeah, some things are sad for some characters, but I never felt emotion. I think I would have enjoyed the movie much more if they did not try to make us care so much. Don't get me wrong; I think the action is great, but the danger for the characters the filmmakers wanted to create just... wasn't there. That is my opinion, so hate me, I stand by my decision.
@@aramisaac4292 just for understanding what is your favourite action movie? Im finding it difficult to understand your criticism.
@@veloc.raptor9136 I haven't seen the movie since my comment, but from what I remember the movie tried to be too serious at times. Some of my favourite action movies are Crank and T2. Those are perfect examples for my argument; Crank tries to be just insane, and T2 is an action movie with heart. MM:FR tried to be both, and it didn't mash together well. The action sequences are great, and when it is pure insanity (that guy with the flaming guitar though!) it is amazing, but about half the time the movie tried to have an actual story with characters, which was really out of place.
There was so much story in this movie. Just because it wasn’t in words doesn’t mean it wasn’t there; blind following of ideology, cult figures that are powerful and keep their subjects suppressed or willingly follow them, Overcoming disability, suppression of women, empowering of women, working together to survive, damaging the environment, survival of the fittest, and the story threads go on and on.
"has too much action" lol it's like criticizing a porn for having tons of people fucking.
Best action movie this decade? So now we are pretending The Raid 2 never happened. Why is the movie called Mad Max if Max is hardly in it?
The Raid and it's sequel we're pretty great in one department and one department only, that being action. They pulled off the craziest stunts with some fantastic camera work, which was truly exceptional. However what makes Fury Road a better film is the human characters and emotion. In the Raid, you're sent immediately into the action with barely knowing anybody and little to no character development. The Raid had action as it's forefront; while Fury Road blended action and emotion together.
Jacob Kwiatkowski "In the Raid, you're sent immediately into the action with barely knowing anybody and little to no character development." Well yeah, it's an action movie. It doesn't bog you down to please a demographic.
And there was NO cgi in the second movie. And btw If they are going to name a movie "Mad Max" then maybe I don't know... actually make Max do something. Didn't they have the courage to give Charlize her own IP. Doesn't she deserve it? She does. Why do they have to make her piggy back off of the Max name IP. I actually hope they rename this movie like they did with edge of tomorrow.
John Swaglak Mad Max: Fury Road is better than Raid 2, more action than Raid 2, Fury Road action sequence NEVER ENDS, IT KEEPS GOING FOR AN HOUR AND 40 MINUTES, there is only one action sequence in Fury Road which is the whole CHASE SCENE DONE IN 138 DAYS IN THE DESERT
John Swaglak u can't be sarcastic through text cause you can't hear the tone of texts
Calm down bro, jeezus
top 10 best action movies of all time, prob even top 3
I just watched Mad Max FR recently once again on Netflix and wow
this movie is just a masterpiece.
One of the best action movies ever made, not a single boring moment from start to the end.
6 Oscars well deserved, a must watch for anyone who hasnt seen it yet!
10/10
Hmm, kind of funny how everyone says "Am I the only person who didn't like this movie?" when I know most are scrolling through the comment sections just to see a hundred other people asking the same question "Am I the only person who didn't like this movie?"
Anyways, I really enjoyed the movie, solid action movie, not like some other so called action movies that try to cram unneeded story down our throats.
+Banished Rabbit unneeded story? without context to action, there are no stakes, there is no tension. That is my biggest problem with MM:FR, it's story barely exists. People just over hyped it due to it's beautiful visuals.
+Will Prop There is no need for any tension. Just watch it for the unique, raw, gritty, stylish, over the top, authentic action movie it is ...
Dexter Morgan idk man I love you
Will Prop
Why ??
it's your profile pic man, it's hawt
Tom Hardy is better than Mel Gibson playing as Max
+Cyrus Ilao You're saying this just because he's racist
lol, no
I think this is the best Mad Max movie, and I think TH did a great job playing Max. But Mel Gibson still did a better job in my book, he nails the "wandering asshole" while still being likable and charming in a way I don't know any other actor could do quite as well.
Cyrus Ilao wtf are u stupid hell no gibson will always be the best
Cyrus Ilao You cannot be serious ? Mel Gibson is and always will be the definitive Mad Max. Tom Hardy did a pretty good job though
This is one of the best action films ever for sure
You have to see this movie multiple times, it’s absolutely insane how much action and detail is going on. All at the same time! It doesn’t overegg exposition and trusts the audience, dammit I can’t believe how good this movie is. Best 4th movie in a franchise ever? Though technically it’s stand alone. The people who worked on it should be so proud.
It's another 2 days before it starts here in Germany!!! I can't wait! I have to see it now now now!!!!
Now.
Oh boo hoo for you. 2 days, bah. Here in America, we have to wait 3 Fuckin days! I don't know if I'll be able to survive!
Roger Puzzitiello Oh... now I really feel bad for you. This is the saddest thing I read the hole week-... no month!
Anyway it's strange: a few years ago it was common that movies come out about half a year after their release in the states (in 2015 "Avengers 2" came out a week BEFORE the release in the US). I kinda like this development, but I still do not quite understand it. (American movies get dubbed before a german release which of course takes time...)
Geht mir genau so!
I wont be able to watch it until it comes out on dvd It sucks not having a car.
NOCTURNUS FILM Same here in Austria!
Well shit... I was excited before, but hearing you compare it to my three favorite action movies has me sufficiently hyped.
Can't wait to watch and review this one!
for me Raiders, Die Hard T2 and The Dark Knight along with MM fury road are the best action movies
Not a big fan of the matrix though
Tbh I liked max more than furiousa

i liked that lizard at the beginning

Just watched this again for the first time in a few years. This is legitimately one of the best action films of the 21st century.
Watched it yesterday ....amazing film ...action packed to the core ...such an off the wall thrill ride , hands down one of the best action films of the decade ... Awesome review ...and wtf, were they spraying chrome in their mouth ? ...
lester p. Did you not pay attention? Nux explained why they sprayed the chrome in their mouth.
So they look shiny n chrome when they die ? ...i thought theres more to that unexplained lol
Well yeah, they sprayed the chrome in their mouth to look shiny when they died. But the reason was because they truly believed they were worthy enough to pass onto Valhalla. It was a cult religious thing
lester p. I think the creators said it's some kind of a drug to give you the last boost.
I seen it and it was one hell of an epic film, great action, great characters and a pretty confusing but nice story, I must say it's better then the Michael Bay films, yep, including Transformers.
Clank Zoka and dwayne johnson movies. ( they are shit )
Michael bay should take notes from George Miller on how to do explosions in movies.
scratch that. he should learn how to make action movies from Mastermind Miller.
This movie was my best movie of 2015 and better than the force awakens
I missed when Chris used to show a lot of emotions throughout his reviews like this one....

Captain Possible Confession: I haven't watched Mad Max yet
Captain Possible most probably you havent seen the new jurrasic park trailer. it feels like it is going to be a dumb fun movie which would feel nothing like the first one. i think it might be the same level as bad as the 3rd movie.

Captain Possible same here, but the early 2010's even 2008 to 2020 are the most glorious days of my nerd life. To say that nerd stuff wasn't popular at all 20 years ago, like it wasn't cool to talk comics and stuff with regular folks. My inner teen is screaming FINALLY!
