Ramin as usual exudes leading character material but Hadley? He's like the adonis of the musical stage, has never failed to give the audience a deep impression of the character he's playing no matter how short the lines are. Lucky to those who had the chance to watch him play Javert and Ramin as JVJ.

We were at this concert and it was fantastic apart from Nick Jonas. The only reason we could think of for Cameron Mackintosh casting him was to sell tickets to young people but they needn’t have worried it would have sold out four times over without him. Grantaire loves Enjolras (may even be in love with him). He doesn't really believe in the cause, but in the young man leading them. When he pulls away from Enjolras after the line "Could it be your death means nothing at all?" he is all but saying that it will mean everything to him. So even though he has a deeply cynical outer shell, he later chooses to die with his friend, in part so that Enjolras will not have to die alone, and also so that he will not have to live without him. It's incredibly moving to me, far more so than Marius mewling about Cosette five minutes after Eponine has sacrificed her life for him.
+ReviewCam mind you he totally shone with those few lines as the best singer in the whole movie. I heard people on the way out of the cinema asking who the officer with the moustache was so he certainly made an impact! Put the rest of them (bar Sam, Aaron and the Barricade Boys) to shame anyway!!

The best/worst part was when R starts singing and enjolras’s smiling that dopey ass smile, looking towards the others like LOOK HES ENGAGING IN EARNEST IM SO PROUD and then R gets to the second verse and his face just falls. Ramin’s one hell of an actor, crazy subtle for theater without sacrificing emotion
i JUST realized that Grantaire (aka hadley fraiser) is Raoul from POTO, it feels so weird yet strangely heartwarming seeing the phantom and raoul standing side by side like that!
One of my favorite moments in the show is when Granitiere (sp?) sings his part. While a very small role, it is a very important one... the cynic of the bunch, he really sings the truth... what a waste of lives... "Is you life just one more lie?". I hate when that part of the performance is glossed over. I actually liked a lot of the movie (Russell Crowe not withstanding), but hated that they cut that part of the song.
the actual lyric is "Is your life, just one more life" which makes it even more sad when you realize that he's basically talking to Enjolras in particular in a remorseful way
Les Mis has the most beautifully written songs, and even though this is not the most famous one, I think it’s the absolute best. I get chills at so many different parts of the song… especially when Hadley sings, and also when the women come in. This just never gets old!
In the official recording, where it shows all of E and R's exchange, it just gives me a lot of feelings. R attempts to leave and is stopped by the man he admires more than anyone else. They get into an argument that we don't hear, neither one of them rejoining the song. Eventually, R stops talking and just puts his hand on the back of E's neck, caressing his face and E just looks at him. They walk off before the song finishes, arms around each other. (Error 404 Heterosexuality Not Found)
The best Grantaire ever. But I can't help but think that Ramin is trying to control Hadley while he sings in case he forgot his lines. Like "I'm standing right behind you, mate! And I have a rifle here. Don't you dare to miss a word!"
I forgot that Nick Jonas was playing Marius in this scene, and it was so disappointing when it came to Marius' part, because I love that part and I was like "aw yas, Marius time" and then Nick Jonas started singing.
Sydney Rutter Im so with you. Marius, well Michael Ball as Marius has some of my favorite parts. Jonas really almost ruined this whole concert. That may be going too far but he DEFINITELY ruined One Day More with his weakness. He just brought the energy way down
J Bo Does it also bother you that at the end of One Day More, Nick is literally the ONLY one who is not looking straight forward? They pan out and everyone else is looking forward and there he is with his head awkwardly/stiffly turned toward the mic and it just bugs the shit out of me every time lol
You might not even care about les mis now but I found a version where it doesn't pan away! "Les Miserables 25th - Drink With Me" is the video title, 0:28, sadly there's no kiss but it's still a p cute moment between them
Ha! I've always felt Enjolras was far too wrapped up with the ABC to be bothered with romance....And feel Grantaire admires him hugely, but not in a sexual way. It's beautifully done here though.
Also, love when the women are singing "at the shrine of friendship never say die" and shows the lady, and the two men smile as though to really appreciate the soaring female voices. :)
Hadley is just beyond amazing. I'd give anything to see him in Les Mis some day, preferably with Ramin as well. Hadley's Javert was insanely good, been listening to the RUclips clips over and over again.
Woah, 2 days ago I never heard of Hadley Fraser until Grantaire opened his mouth in this video! Now I’m searching RUclips so I can hear more of his amazing voice, lol. Did a wonderful job in his few lines of the Les Mis movie. Wish he would release an album with some of the big Broadway ballads!
I could cheerfully throttle whoever edited the 25th anniversary dvd. What a gret moment between Ramin and Hadley. I know Love Never Dies has it's issues, but I'd pay good money to hear the two of them together in Devil Take The Hindmost.
hadley is superb, he gets the perfect contrast that is grantaire; quick to react with anger to slowly realise his own sorrow. everyone else i've seen play him doesn't quite get his vulnerability like this.
Lol, I love watching the reactions of the students when Grantaire starts singing caus they go from "hey! Grantaire's finally joining in" to "uh... let's not think about it like that"
There's a version up on youtube which doesn't pan away, its title is "Les Miserables 25th - Drink With Me", it's at 0:28 of it, spoiler alert: unfortunately they don't kiss
I have to back up what Keladrys said, I have never done that with any of my friends (the males one, I mean), too much intimacy on just one touch. Fuck, watch this gives too much e/R feels.
Katherine Nguyen You're right, he does. But his hand does linger by his face like he's unsure what to do and then he put it on Enjolras' neck/shoulder and it's still a very wonderfully bromantic gesture.
Amber s oddly enough I'm going to disagree with you - this was "a concert performance" so they wanted the best voices they could get especially in the secondary roles - thanks to this concert I was introduced to Les Mis and fell in love with Ramin & Hadley's voices - from here I went to Phantom and then Love Never Dies - so I'm glad they were both cast as they were 🤗
okay so obviously the shoulder touch but omg the look he's giving him while he's singing the part abt being afraid to die holy shit stop playing with my feelings
Ah, finally found it! Thanks for this. Wish they had included this bit in the DVD. Ramin and Hadley are great together. Love their music, love their acting, love em both! Too bad I live in California or I'd be going to the West End whenever I could afford to. LOL. England is LUCKY to have these two. Sigh... all I get is video clips and CD's. It's not the same, but it'll have to do. Better than nothing though, right? :)
EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I FOUND A VERSION WHERE IT DOESN'T PAN AWAY AT 1:22 (though it has terrible audio quality)!!! Its title is "Les Miserables 25th - Drink With Me" on youtube. The moment is at its 0:28. Spoiler alert: it's not as gay as it could've been, but it's still a really cute moment between them
So late to this but I wonder if it was scripted or just the natural reaction of the cast to Hadley singing that people around just looked up and smiled. So beautiful
+Bethany okay, I do agree he's not a Broadway singer... But I have to say he does bring some 'innocence' to the character... I mean Marius is suppose to be like a young man who's still in school so...
I remember watching this on tv when it came out. It was one of the first times I had ever watched Les Miserables, so this is one of my favorite productions (even though I would have preferred a different Marius.... sorry Nick - you're voice is just too close to the pop style). I now absolutely love Hadley Fraser and was so happy when I realized he was in the newer movie that came out a few years ago. The song Drink With Me has always made me cry, especially the first time I watched it. Now that I know Hadley Fraser was Grantaire it all makes sense. I now also love Ramin Karimloo (just like pretty much everyone else). Wow, the more I am realizing who was in the 25th Anniversary production, the more I understand why I loved it from the beginning.
I read some comments, like the Zaftra's ones, and I copied here what 3neelh was talking about. "All those words: rights of the people, rights of man, the social contract, the French Revolution, the Republic, democracy, humanity, civilization, religion, progress, came very near to signifying nothing whatever to Grantaire. He smiled at them. Scepticism, that caries of the intelligence, had not left him a single whole idea. He lived with irony". "However, this sceptic had one fanaticism. This fanaticism was neither a dogma, nor an idea, nor an art, nor a science; it was a man: Enjolras. Grantaire admired, loved, and venerated Enjolras." "There are men who seem to be born to be the reverse, the obverse, the wrong side. They are Pollux, Patrocles, Nisus, Eudamidas, Ephestion, Pechmeja. They only exist on condition that they are backed up with another man; their name is a sequel, and is only written preceded by the conjunction and; and their existence is not their own; it is the other side of an existence which is not theirs. Grantaire was one of these men. He was the obverse of Enjolras. One might almost say that affinities begin with the letters of the alphabet. In the series O and P are inseparable. You can, at will, pronounce O and P or Orestes and Pylades." As you may see, they are compared to Achiles and Patrocles, Alexander The Great and Ephestion (Hephaistion). Those of the most know "couples" in the history. (You could all the research you want to about them and the other ones, I put those two because they are more known than the others).
Jessie Ravestein consider this. He’s 17. That means not many years of training. Everyone else is a lot older and has had many mire years of training and experience. It’s not like he has never been in stage before. He was Gavroche once upon a time.
I tell u what. Nick jonas has a pretty voice which contrasts very nicely. Like i get he’s not the star of the show & it isn’t traditional musical theatre but it was lovely
he's got a really nice voice but its just so odd seeing him in any sort of period piece. he just has such a 2010s face. its like seeing cardi b in an amish town.

Those two together best part of Anniversary concert!
Hadley is amazing, gorgeous, great voice
hadley........my god...................
I almost didn't recognise Ramin but would recognise Hadleys voice anywhere 😍
Saw Ramin and Hadley as Valjean and Javert in London. Absolutely fantastic.
Hadley and Ramin bless your talent :'))
Hadley Fraser is freaking awesome. His voice gave me chills.
STILL CRYING. STILL EMOTIONAL. STILL DEAD.
:( And still I missing
Biggest casting mistake is casting Ramin and Hadley has secondary characters
ramin shoul be marius at last!
Amber s oddly enough I'm going to disagree with you - this was "a concert performance" so they wanted the best voices they could get especially in the secondary roles - thanks to this concert I was introduced to Les Mis and fell in love with Ramin & Hadley's voices - from here I went to Phantom and then Love Never Dies - so I'm glad they were both cast as they were 🤗
Secondary characters my ass Enjolras and Grantaire are the best characters in the whole fucking show
Highlights how bad Nick Jonas was as Marius too
@@cascharles3838 Eponine as well
Ramin & Hadley = PERFECTION!
okay so obviously the shoulder touch but omg the look he's giving him while he's singing the part abt being afraid to die holy shit stop playing with my feelings
this beautiful song makes my eyes full of tear
That look from Ramin 'way to kill the mood, Hadley'
I like the very strong singing voice from Grantaire (Hadley Fraser). Great perfomance!
Love this, Hadley... is amazing
Of all the songs in Les Mis -- and I love almost all of them -- this is my favourite. And the saddest. (Except perhaps for "a little fall of rain")
first person to sing, owain Williams/llyr is a beautful singer, I had the great pleasure of him! and hes so lovely, gives me chills just watching him
It's so fortunate you got to see a performance that allows recording; that's pretty rare.
Even in this kind of recording, the sound came through so perfectly. and good capture of Ramin and Hadley!
Spoiler alert: it's not as gay as it could've been, but it's still a really cute moment between them
OH MY GOD YOUR MY SAVIOR
Thank you angel!!
THANK YOU
It's my fault and this is for everybody who watched this video!

I still cry because this is so emotionally heartbreaking
Me: Oh, this is awesome, everyone's sooo gooood!
Also me: *closes tab before Nick Jonas starts singing*
Its been five years and I'm still upset about being cut off from enjoltaire
Its been many years and Im still upset about Nick. Sorry for the fans, but the song is so powerful and then....
Well, it's a truly beautiful song. And the contrast between the women and men singing is stunning.
CAMERA MOVED AWAY FROM THE GRANJOLRAS HAPPENING. HE WAS TOUCHING HIS FACE. NOOOOOOOO... DON'T PAN AWAY FROM THE OTP.
I'm 3 years late but go to 0:28 of the video titled "Les Miserables 25th - Drink With Me", unfortunately no kiss but still good
It's my fault and this is for everybody who watched this video!

So late to this but I wonder if it was scripted or just the natural reaction of the cast to Hadley singing that people around just looked up and smiled. So beautiful
Fraiser and Karimaloo together again. I'd watch anything the 2 do together!
*turns it off right before nick jonas starts singing*
+Danielle Burger oh m y goSH same
Jealous
Anna Lee girl, i love nick jonas (also nice reference) but compared to the quality of the other broadway singers, he doesn't measure up
+Bethany okay, I do agree he's not a Broadway singer... But I have to say he does bring some 'innocence' to the character... I mean Marius is suppose to be like a young man who's still in school so...
+Anna Lee (myfangirltopia) true. But that's about all he brings
LOL! Timing is everything! Such is live recording. I'm glad to have this version and the official release.
Killian, Jamie, Hadley, Ramin, Alistair... So much talent
I KNOW! Absolutely love these two in these roles.
I CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT!
WHY WOULD YOU MOVE THE CAMERA GO BACK GO BACK GO BACK WHO THE HELL RECORDED THIS AND WHY DO YOU HATE ME
It's my fault and this is for everybody who watched this video!
drive.google.com/file/d/1NCxhm6DKeJ1zvUrcPa96PoTdMNpjtvG4/view?usp=drive_link
Why would you move the camera away as Hadley touches Ramin's face?!
It's my fault and this is for everybody who watched this video!

Aaaaww. The gentle stroke of the cheek between two fighting men. How strong.....
I love at 0:26 how Ramin puts his hand on Hadley's shoulder and nods with his head at the mic.
I read some comments, like the Zaftra's ones, and I copied here what 3neelh was talking about.
"All those words: rights of the people, rights of man, the social
contract, the French Revolution, the Republic, democracy, humanity,
civilization, religion, progress, came very near to signifying
nothing whatever to Grantaire. He smiled at them. Scepticism, that
caries of the intelligence, had not left him a single whole idea.
He lived with irony".
"However, this sceptic had one fanaticism. This fanaticism was
neither a dogma, nor an idea, nor an art, nor a science; it was a
man: Enjolras. Grantaire admired, loved, and venerated Enjolras."
"There are men who seem to be born to be the
reverse, the obverse, the wrong side. They are Pollux, Patrocles,
Nisus, Eudamidas, Ephestion, Pechmeja. They only exist on condition
that they are backed up with another man; their name is a sequel,
and is only written preceded by the conjunction and; and their
existence is not their own; it is the other side of an existence
which is not theirs. Grantaire was one of these men. He was the
obverse of Enjolras.
One might almost say that affinities begin with the letters of
the alphabet. In the series O and P are inseparable. You can, at
will, pronounce O and P or Orestes and Pylades."
As you may see, they are compared to Achiles and Patrocles, Alexander The Great and Ephestion (Hephaistion). Those of the most know "couples" in the history. (You could all the research you want to about them and the other ones, I put those two because they are more known than the others).
Hadley's belting out these awesome notes and Ramin's just,,,mess this up bud and you're dead the next morning
Is it bad I stopped watching the minute Nick Jonas started singing? Hadley and Ramin are just gorgeous!!
I need to watch Les Miserables with Sierra Boggess as Marius, Hadley Fraser as Cossete and Ramin Karimloo as Eponine!
Nick Jones was my favourite Marius- said no one ever
Poor Michael Ball is watching that shite from the audience....why is Nick so goddamn whiny and nasal THE WHOLE TIME?!
Carmen Barr agree too high for Marius
Actually he's my second favourite, topped only by Eddie Redmayne. Don't argue with me. Everyone's opinion is valid.
Jessie Ravestein consider this. He’s 17. That means not many years of training. Everyone else is a lot older and has had many mire years of training and experience. It’s not like he has never been in stage before. He was Gavroche once upon a time.
@@abi1249 surely shouldn't have cast him though... it really takes away from the performance
Hadley Fraser just kills it here
I bought the dvd few days ago. I didn't see whole of the concert yet, but I saw that part like a hundred times
