i discovered this beautiful under spoken tree in my front yard. It has been there for years hidden away behind nasty vines and brush. My husband and I cleared away a lot of unnecessary brush and bushes only to find this beautiful tree in full white bloom. I didn't even know what kind of tree it was. I suppose that was the tree's way of saying thank you. It has never blossomed before this spring. Absolutely a beautiful tree. Thank you.

My mother had a dogwood and it died. Firstly, I was told you can/can not trim in a month that has an R. Is this true? And secondly, can you plant a new dogwood where the dead one was?

    3 THE DOGWOOD TREE
Many many years ago, there lived a pedlar whose name was Kim Kae In. Each day, he loaded his cart with pots and pans. He walked from village to village in Cholla-do, selling his wares. 'Pots and pans for sale! Best quality pots and pans!' he called out.
Kim hada dog who went everywhere with him. The villagers were used to seeing him with his dog every time he passed through their village. He was happy for he was hardworking and enjoyed few pleasures. 'I'm celebrating my birthday and you must come,' said his friend. ' Bring your dog for company. You'll be returning late at night and the hills are full of robbers.' Kim nodded. He knew he had a good watchdog. So, after bathing and putting on hid best clothes, the pedlar set off his pet dog.
'Come, we must hurry or we'll be late,' said Kim. The dog looked knowingly at his master and although he could not talk, he understood everything Kim told him.
There were many people at the party and Kim and his dog were warmly welcomed. 'Have some of this roast p_rk and rice w_n_,' said his friend. The w_n_ warmed him as it was a cold day. Soon the men became merry and began to sing. 'More w_n_, Kim,' said his friend, filling his glass again and again. The dog, noticing how red his master's face was becoming, gently tugged at his master's sleeve as if to say: 'Don't drink too much. We've got a long way to walk home.'
But Kim took no notice. Before long he knew that he had drunk far too much w_n_. 'Enough. I've a long way to go,' said Kim, laughing and pushing the w_n_ jar away.
Soon it was time to go home. Kim borrowed a lantern to light the way. It was very dark. Therewas no moon; neither were there any stars. It was pitch-black. 'It looks like rain,' said Kim. He could hardly walk straight. Several times, his dog tugged him back onto the right path. 'You're a good dog. A good dog,' mumbled Kim. He had had a lot to drink and only wished to sleep. He lay down by the roadside and was soon fast asleep. The dog could not wake him and although he tugged again and again at Kim's coat he could not wake him. Kim was in a deep sleep. Patiently, the dog stood guard over him.
At dawn, when there was a faint light in the sky, the dog saw a horrible sight. A wild forest fire fed by high winds was sweeping fiercely across the field in which Kim lay. Soon the field became a sea of red-hot flames. Trees burned and fell to the ground.
Frantically, the dog tried to rouse his master. He tugged and tugged. Then he barked and even nipped his master in the arm to try and wake him. But it was no use. Kim was fast asleep, completely unaware of the terrible danger.
The dog ran to a nearby mountain stream, dashed in and drenched himself in the freezing water. He then ran back to where his master was lying. The fire had almost surrounded the sleeping man. Again and again the dog rolled over the flames. Several times he ran back to the stream, trying to douse the flames so that his master would not be burnt to death. But the dog was so badly burnt that in a short time he fell exhausted to the ground and died.
The pedlar woke from his deep sleep at just that moment. He was horrified to see the fire. He noticed that the ground around him was wet in patches. He was puzzled. Who had tried to put out the fire? There was no one around. He whistled for his dog. Then he got up. It was then that he stumbled over the body of his pet dog. Kim was heartbroken. When he saw how badly burnt his dog was he wept. He guessed that in trying to save him, the dog had lost his own life. 'Ah, I should have listened. He tugged at my coat. He knew I was drinking too much w_n_. He tried to warn me!' cried the pedlar.
Sadly, he buried his faithful dog. Life without his pet was never the same again. He missed him greatly. One fine spring day, Kim returned to the spot where he had buried his pet. He was astonished to see a beautiful tree growing there. Its branches spread far and wide and tired travellers rested under his shade. Its blossoms gave off a beautiful scent. Kim told everyone he met how the dog had saved his life. The people were so moved that they named the spot 'Osoo' (Dogwood Tree). To this day travellers admire the wonders of the tree and praise the brave dog who gave his own life to save his master.
