    Exactly. This is the second video I watch from this channel. And this one said it. But I knew it from the video of the African tree at the zoo. Same approach of nutrients with trees as with people. As Linus Pauling would put it, orthomolecular. I have a birch tree I’m about to work on to revive, meanwhile everyone else is saying to cut it down. I will not give up on it tho!

    I have an ornamental dogwood that an arborist looked at for me because I noticed dead spots and an overall decline this spring. He told me it appeared to have some trauma at the base at some point. Not sure exactly what happened- maybe hit by lawnmower? Either, way, he gave a good fertilizer treatment and advised to mulch, water and prune any dead areas. It's been about 4 months and although it still appears to be on the decline (lots of continued dead limbs/growth) I noticed while watering today that it has a new growth coming out of base next to tree root. I'm hoping this is a good sign that the tree is still fighting & trying to recover. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated 👏

The bark is flakeing away and beginning to have limbs leaves shrivalling up to the point I have to just cut the limbs off. They also have a mossy green growth on the trunks. What advice would u have for me ? They r my favorite trees and I'd b heartbroken to lose them.

    John, Thanks for the information on soil health. I think better pruning techniques would also help that tree. 10.15 to 10.33 Final cut at limb collar would be nice, and what was your reason to leave the 6 inch limb just over the top of your park bench?

    • @JohnandBobs
      @JohnandBobs  2 года назад +2

      You are correct and you bring up an interesting point, ongoing and additional pruning is needed. On this tree and a lot of sick trees I frequently defer some pruning cuts until the recovering tree has an abundance of leaves, because it is leaves (through photosynthesis) that fuel a strong recovery. In the beginning I'm after all the healthy leaf growth we can muster, as more growth occurs we will prune additionally.

    In March 2022, I planted a barefoot kousa dogwood ‘Scarlet Fire,’ in my partially wooded back yard area. It leafed out normally last year but had not leafed out yet in 2023, except for s location near the graft union at the base of the trunk, but that growth also died back. The branches are still pliable and the flesh underneath the cambium is a white color with a hint of green. I have been using a product from Dr. JimZ, called Tree Secret, over the past year. The area where I planted it was formerly populated with running invasive golden bamboo. I removed as much of the bamboo rhizome material as I could in the planting hole. In January of 2023, I erected a fabric cloth cage over the tree to protect it from animal browsing. Can my tree be saved? Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Have been a fan now for a few years. Use the products with everything. We live in zone 7, high desert area and two of our trees have recently stopped putting on new growth out the top and instead have produced new shoots from the roots. Any idea what causes this? Do we cut out the dead wood and begin again with the new root growth? Too many questions!

    I had to move a small dogwood this spring due to an invasive trees starting to grow and choke it out. I planted it with good quality potting soil but it’s not doing well. The leaves are all wilted and it looks like it’s dead. I live in zone 9b and planted it where it gets filtered sunlight. Any tips? Or did I kill it.

    • @JohnandBobs
      @JohnandBobs  3 года назад +2

      Try following the tips from this video and our first video we did about this same Dogwood tree (ruclips.net/video/Pt4tkTBMDu0/видео.html). Infuse your soil with beneficial life, you can use our Blend product or a high quality compost. And infuse your soil with beneficial soil bacteria, you can use our Penetrate product or use similar products that do the same thing. You should also prune all the dead wood off to encourage new growth. If the tree is getting a lot of sun you should wait until early fall to prune because the leaves will help protect it from sun and heat. If you are not sure if it is alive, try testing some of the smaller branches to see if they snap or have some bend to them. You can also try a scratch test and see if there is any green underneath the outer layer. Hope that helps! :)

    I have a failing Dogwood I believe due to tent caterpillar's. Attacked the past two years I removed the effected limbs (two limbs each of the two years) and nests. Really poor leaf development this year, certainly compared with my neighbors Dogwoods of the same variety. I want to try your method but not sure of the season to start application. Approaching Fall here in Northern Vermont zone 4a. Can you advise me of the best season to start your recovery process? Thanks

      In Vermont I would apply a 3lb bag of our Soil Optimizer (Optimize) topically now in the root zone of your Dogwood. Send me a photo of it now. Then, I would do nothing further until early Spring. Starting early Spring I recommend about 6 total applications at intervals of 1 every other week of 3lbs Blend topically over the root zone; 2oz 'A', 2oz 'B' Penetrate-Liquid Biotiller in about 5 gallons water over the Blend. After the second application of Blend/Penetrate mulch the root zone of the Dogwood with 1-2" thick wood based mulch or compost or similar. After the mulch application, apply the Blend/Penetrate right on top of the mulch for the remaining applications. You can send photos here: customerservice@johnandbobs.com

    Hello, I have a new property with a sickly dogwood that has some rot at the top left side running down a 1” or so with new flowering growth on right of that rot.
    It was cut at the top its circumference diameter suggests the top 1/3 was lopped off. Should I cut the rot out leaving the right side new growth alone?
    Also , a suckling vine has grown all the way to the top almost a foot wide at the base with a kind of brown fuzz on its sides. I’m in process of gently chopping it away any recommendations on that as well? please. Thank you very much.

    Hi. We live in Georgia and have 4 dogwoods. They are in full sun and 3 of them do okay. We’re pretty sure the 4th is dying. We were going to cut some of the limbs off but it would be a big chunk of the tree. After watching this video it seems trying your soil solution is worth a shot. Do your products have the amount that I should use one them?

      Right now in the fall I would apply 1- 6lb Blend topically over the root zone and over the Blend apply 1-8oz of our Penetrate Liquid Biotiller w/ a couple gallons of water. Then in early Spring make the same application every other week 4 times. Take some before and after phoyos and send to me. - John

    A few years ago, we had to 'top' our dogwood tree because it was growing into power lines. It became very 'bushy' after this. Last year, I just let it go and the leaves curled and dried up/ burned. This year, I made the choice to 'open it up' by taking down some small branches thinking it would help it. Now I am worried I did too much. Any advice?

      I have had excellent results using the same protocol on citrus as we showed in the Dogwood revival video and previously before that in the African Sumac revival video at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Every week for 4 weeks apply 3lbs of our Blend and right over the top of the Blend with 4oz of Penetrate-Liquid Biotiller in about 5gallons of water. This will provide your best chance of revival. However, if it has absolutely no leaves (not one) for a year, then it is probably dead and should be removed.
