Hi There! Dogwood trees do have a dormancy cycle in which they lose their leaves. How long have you had the tree in the pot and what is the variety? They do grow best when they are planted in the ground.
Hi - lovely video and trees! Just wondering do Heart Throb and Milky Way have the beautiful berries? Also, I read that Heart Throb may actually be “Miss Satomi”?? I will look for these trees this spring, fingers crossed I can find them!! 🌸
Thank you! They are both in my own yard and I can’t say enough about them! Yes-they both have berries. I have not heard that about “Heart Throb”, but very interesting! That one has such a long bloom time as well. Happy Spring and thank you for your comment!
I am wondering if I can have these beautiful flower trees in my backyard for zone 9. Although you mentioned zone 5-8 but is there any exception, if I can plant these in shade. Thank you!❤
Hi there and thank you for watching! Our planting zones have recently changed- so I would double check your zone and the tag. You just may be able to plant these beauties- or something comparable. Happy gardening!
Beautiful trees. I just bought one of these babies the Kousa dogwood (white) first time buying. Such a different looking tree. I plan to put this in my front yard because I have the space but my front yard gets scorching sun. Does this tree tolerate full sun?
I heard they do well, with part shade (afternoon shade) like beside a tree (15-25 feet away). I’m not too familiar with trees that do well with full sun other than palms. It’s hard to find trees that can handle the over bearing sun well
Wonderful question! I often see birds nests in them, and have had cardinals and bluebirds visit them in my gardens. But many birds use the dogwoods for food and nesting! Thank you for watching our video!
I have a 3 year old Kousa that is thriving and producing flowers but looks more like a bush than a tree. Should I take off the lower branches to expose the trunk?
Hi There! Great question!! Without seeing it and hearing your description- it sounds like you have a multi stem dogwood. They are wonderful, and the shape is much desired (speaking for myself…as I recently tried to find some for my yard! 😆) It really depends on your preference, but it may be a little work to “train” it at this point. Personally- I like to let plants do their thing…and the less work the better! 😊🌸
Thank you for watching! It’s tough to say without knowing your planting zone, the variety, sun exposure, etc. A soil test may be a wonderful starting point for diagnostics. Good luck and keep us posted on progress! 👩🌾
Honey, my only advice is…..talk a lot faster!! I’m from the South and we’re well known for our slower drawl, which I don’t hear from you, so you must be a Mid-Westerner, especially with the amount of added side notes you’re squeezing in, but bottom line, picking up the pace a little bit would be helpful the next time and adding more inflections to keep us awake since you have a such a lovely soothing monotone voice, would be good too. Other than that I think you gave us helpful info and showed us nice specimen examples - thank you!! Best of Luck
Sadly the Kousa dogwood is becoming invasive. I grew up with them and have nostalgia for them, the fruit is tasty too. Unfortunately our native plants and wildlife are already under such an attack from barberry and bittersweet. I’d love to see content for gardening with native plants. Thanks!
I love Cornus Kousa , I am in France whit 5 varieties of Cornus the scarlet fire is beautiful my garden is on RUclips 40 videos, keywords ( passion nature jardin Claude ) cordially
You answered my question. The tree loves full sun. I appreciate your teachings on this marvelous tree!

@@Sanchez96d My 30 yr old Kousa was over 30 ft tall... full south exposure and did wonderfully every year!
just make sure soil stays fairly moist..
Thanks for the informative video ! Do you know of an expert arborist in the MA/RI area who can do grafting on Kousa Dogwoods?
You are so welcome and thank you for watching! 🌸
Have you noticed any specific birds that are attracted to these types of Dogwoods? Thanks for sharing these beautiful trees.

I found one of these on my job sites when I cut the grass. I was wondering if i could eat the fruit
Hi There! It’s best left for the birds. Thanks for watching and so glad this helped identify the dogwood!
I have found recipes for Kousa jam. Just google it. But I leave most on the tree for my birds 🙂
I have one, but it is struggling. I'm not sure what to do.

This tree supports wildlife. Not every introduced species is bad for the environment.
