One of my absolute favorite talks at the conference! “A lonely road is a body guard.” I put it in my notes and think of it often!
This is what it's all about. Thank you, Rosanne.
As a child, I remember listening to Johnny Cash’s vinyl albums endlessly playing as my autistic uncle blasted it on his record player.
Every time I hear Johnny Cash I’m reminded of my beloved grandfather and now my grandmother, who recently passed on April 27. The story Roseanne tells of her grandmother absolutely reminds me of my own grandmother. Who survived the great depression, raising three children, being the best grandmother us grandkids could ever hope for and caring for my uncle who had to of been one of the greatest hardships she ever experienced as a mother. Initially, back then, if you had a child who didn’t fit the narrative of “normal“ you were blamed. As if she had done something wrong?! She worked tirelessly, throughout her life to raise awareness about handicapped kids and effectively helped implement programs to help with this. I remember, she also spoke to the local police department about kids/people like this and how they are different and things you can look for and ways to help deescalate situations, rather than escalate.
I especially loved hearing all of her life stories about growing up in Saskatchewan, on a farm. She had a brother who was struck by lightning and survived. Also another brother drowned in there well. Rode to school/town in a wagon and in the winter time they actually rode in a sleigh with a little coal box to keep their feet warm.
The statement:
“Every time an old woman dies, a library disappears“
Really struck me
Excellent TED Talk! Roseanne Cash knits these profound ideas together with beautiful melodies!
I just found this video today Friday
9 Des 22.
On the 12 July 22, am hours, I woke up with a song in my head. It was so clear that I could sing it. Then I lost the melody.
However, I don't think it exists in reality.
A familiar male voice sang it. But afterwards I couldn't tell if it was Leonard cohen, Frank Senatra or perhaps Jim Reeves. Maybe it doesn't matter. (I don't know if they have something in common, except the obvious - all singers.)
It was the lyrics of my dream song that tickled me and to this day I am not sure exactly what Universe/God or my Soul, wanted to tell me:
Lyrics:
"You are not what you think -
You are distance,
you are water -
you are not who you think,
you are motion
you are light (this line was a sort of highlighted, in terms of pitch/volume and I think served as the chorus)"
I have beliefs similar to the speaker's/singer here on Ted. However I don't know if I really understand this dream.
Any ideas/possible meanings for dream will be appreciated.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing your great gift. Be well.
Wonderful voice so calm and soothing
“Everytime an old woman dies a library disappears”- thats so true.
That makes me remember all the old women I have lost! But they are inside me today....screaming to me listen, listen! 😔

Interesting as always and very touching.
Great Ted Talk. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you Rosanne Cash 😌
My grandmothers family immigrated from Kentucky. I can only imagine it was the same hardship and library.

I wouldn't agree less but a times we are influenced based on result of what will see and experience, failure at first try doesn't mean it is over but unfortunately people seems to back off when they have experiences some obstacle or failure along the way
Wow! Beautiful! Touched my soul!

Really enjoyed this. Is there a longer version available, or is this part of an event with singer songwriter’s?

Reggie Watts talks more sense, and Ricky Gervais's music is more impressive. Not sure how this is TED-worthy at all - scraping the bottom of the barrel
What a load of nonsense
Nonsense to you, maybe. Or you might have missed the point?
you are a radio with broken antenna.😅
