Steven Berkoff may have looked more like Hitler than Guenther Meisner did, but the latter's portrayl of the Nazi dictator was much more realitistic than the former's in my opinion.
This scene was filmed at the actual Eagle's Nest - the Kehlsteinhaus, but it was a major historical gaffe for the makers to actually mention this - Hitler would pay only fourteen documented visits to the house, and the last of these would be in October 1940. He didn't have any military conferences there. Steven Berkoff is absolutely awful as Hitler, in a series that is really poorly made.
Quantock71 You maybe judging this series by today's standards, but when this miniseries premiered back in 1988 it was one of the highest rated shows on television at that time. You also have to keep in mind this was filmed not by a cable channel, but by the American TV network ABC. This was done at a time when shows like this were still the domain of only the original big three TV networks CBS, NBC, and ABC.
@Uncle adolf Maybe. Why do suppose General Roon decided at the last minute not to tell Hitler about moving German troops from the Pas de Calais to Normandy?
@@odysseusrex5908 First off, it was called Berghof, which was the residence. The Kehlsteinhaus was a vantage point higher up a mountain near the Berghof. And both were part of the area called Obersalzberg.
@@fremejoker Yes, thank you. I have actually learned that since I posted that message, but I do appreciate the response. I find it eerie that the Eagle's Nest still exists and is now a restaurant.

That's a fact. The only reason some say Stalin was worse is because he had the luxury of living longer. If Hitler had lived and the war turned out differently Hitler would have made Stalin look like a boy scout.

Eagle's Nest my arse. The Eagle's Nest was a Mountain top Tea Room near by, that Hitler visited maybe a couple of times. The caption should have read "The Berghoff."
Wrong! This is filmed in the Eagles Nest. It clearly shows the tunnel leading to the 'Golden elevator' which I have visited. This filming was all done in the actual place and no film set would have compared. It is a unique & "must see" place for anyone interested in WW2.
Steven Berkoff as Hitler was always my favorite Hitler! However, in all reality they were not even close. As Speer said he only saw Hitler loose his temper 2 times. That the Temper thing was Hollywood in 1979. Downfall was more like Hitler. Hitler was a cheerleader who of listened to everything anybody said. Then ask about there families! He was evil, but that is why people wanted to give there lives for him. At that the time when cities were in ruble. Hitler did not even want Goring in his presence.
General Armin von Roon went to jail and spent 20 years in prison for war crimes. But Wouk's book and Dan Curtis's movie doesn't explain what those crimes were or what show commting those crimes.
@@fremejoker I know that. It would've been good to see Roon tell Hitler off for not listening to him and the other generals about the Normandy buildup.
@@fremejoker you're right to some degree. if Roon did tell Hitler off he might've been put in a concentration camp or shot and his war memoirs World Empire Lost and World Holocaust would never have been written let alone published.
But as evil as he was, Mao didn't start a world war as Hitler did. Mao may have killed more people than Hitler, but that doesn't necessarily make one dictator worse than the other. Hitler wanted to achieve a pure Aryan world and exterminate anyone who didn't fit that criteria; Mao didn't have that same dream, he didn't want to conquer the world as the Fuehrer did and achieve a pure Chinese world. Mao was defintely a racist, but he was not a genocidal maniac like Hitler.
Seriously? What a horrible choice to play Hitler, the Guy who played the Soviet General in Octopussy and as well as the leading Soviet in Rambo First Blood Part II. Oh, and let's not forget Victor Maitlin in Beverly Hills Cop/ It sounds zero like Hitler.
The truth was that Hitler disliked Kehlsteinhaus, He had been only few times to drink tea, he never had any military conferences there
Exacly. ... Movie is full of mistakes.

How was Berkoff able to wear that Hitler moustache without falling off?
@Uncle adolf Maybe. Why do suppose General Roon decided at the last minute not to tell Hitler about moving German troops from the Pas de Calais to Normandy?
Joachim Hanssen plays the Prussian General like a boss.
This was filmed at the "Eagle's Nest" since the Bergoff (Hitler's main residence) was destroyed by allied bombing near the end of the war.
I thought Eagle's Nest, Bergoff, and OberSalzberg were all the same thing.

The mole on Berkoff’s forehead is distracting, and I just didn’t like his unconvincing portrayal of Hitler.
This series has the most ridiculous portrayal of hitler, like he’s a cross between a Dr Who ‘Dalek’ and an angry android

Bruno Gantz and Sir Anthony Hopkins gave the best performances portraying Hitler. The guy is this movie, Steven Berkoff, was just horrible.
