I just asked my cop buddy about this. He says it can easily be an easy mistake. He says cops can be working 14 hr shifts and they don't turn them on while walking around like this because they're constantly around big angry crowds. So it's not about them turning it off. they just never turned them on. I think there's no protocol for bodycams in riots.
And they are likely to say the police shot first and the police are likely to say McAtee shot first. CCTV is likely the only way to get to the facts of the situation.

If you were on a trip would you keep recording for the whole trip? No, and you'll probably lose some moments. This isn't the best way to say it but officers dont leave the cameras recording 24/7, and they didn't know the situation would turn dirty, so they didnt turn them on.
The footage is used selectively to push narrative, singular perspectives. If you zoom in on one side in a conflict, they are the aggressor regardless of conflict origin.

This report edited out the beginning of the video showing him shoot at the cops first. That's why the cops are going backwards when the video starts, they're running for cover. It also edited the cop giving the interview. It makes it seem like the cops approached the building for no reason. In his full interview with proper context he's saying they approached for a reason he just doesn't know what it is yet. If you watch the whole video it's pretty clear there was a reason they approached. Something happened outside that caused everyone to start running in the building to begin with. The full video is out there if you want to see it. If you get your news from this station I would suggest getting a new source, it was completely misleading...

There are two videos showing the events, one from outside the door, and one inside showing the door. If you watch both videos unedited it's plainly obvious he shot at the cops first, then got popped when he leaned out to take another shot. Why he shot at the cops is unclear. The cops were less than 20' away from him and there was plenty of light so he knew full well what he was doing... If you want to know what happened watch the full videos, seems like you're buying into the bs this station is trying to push on you...
@phillydisco You can see a hand coming out the doorstep and some smoke rising (outdoor cam), at that same time you see David McAtee sticking out his arm through the doorstep pointing at some direction and when David McAtee pulled his arm back the handgun dropped on the doorstep and a wide gripped that up (indoor cam). Those cops were heading to where the gunshots came from (maybe they have even witnessed the group that was shooting). SEVEN weapons on that property (of which 6 handguns), just after a group of people were firing many heavy shots on the crowd. Coincidence that the MPs were suddenly moving towards his property?

You see shooting David twice on video, the question is why the cops and national guard were approaching his home (after hearing multiple rifle shots). The investigation till so far proves David fired twice with the found handgun. In this vid, you can also see a second man with a handgun at that doorstep (blue pants, white shirt, white cap, at 1m27). And at that time a 3rd man is likely to have a handgun too, he was behind that pillar (white pants, black jacket), he just had too much interest in those 2 armed men of which David was shooting twice at the approaching cops. 3rd man was not at all afraid. So 3rd man was experienced in this kind of situation. Armed? Gang-member (The Blood)?
The officers fired something at the doorway before or just as Mr. McAtee unholstered(which they couldn't have seen based on their angle) his weapon and then proceeded to possibly fire his weapon.
This doesn't show the full video, they cut out the part where he shot at the cops first. I'd say he fired at the cops about 10 seconds before this video starts. At the start when of the footage in this video begins, the cops aren't "approaching the building" they're running back for cover. There's also footage from inside the building that clearly shows the chain of events that ties everything together. Either the person reporting for this news station has brain damage, or they intentionally created a misleading report. Unfortunately that's why it's so important for people to diversify their news sources.

@Linda you're right, the MSN video is much more complete, and you just want to cry out to stop it from happening by the time they switch to the outside camera. It seems clear from the angle of his arm (seen on the inside camera) that if David McAtee fired a shot from that pistol (it should be very straightforward to check to see whether the pistol was fired and whether he has GSR on his hand), it was a warning shot up in the air, probably because a man with a long gun was coming off of the street and onto his property and there were many people who had just rushed in to take shelter in that kitchen. An officer wearing body armor and advancing holding a long gun ahead of him like he's intending to use it on the populace, and moving from the street onto private property with that long gun ahead of him is absolutely the wrong message to send in the absence of any prior shots fired -- and at that time, no shots had been fired. But under those circumstances a warning shot would also be just about the worst thing to do, police hearing a shot (and not able to see the context) would assume they were under attack. Have the police said *why* there was an armored man with a long gun advancing in that way across the intersection?

Notice the women slam the door shut, after he staggered back,she knew what was going down. the person just behind him had a gun in his hand also, they were taking shots at the police.
To me it seems like a horrible series of dominos falling. It was dark, there is glare from headlights, cops were in black, and approaching from an angle where they would be hard to see from the diner. I think the cops were firing pepperballs to clear people from the area as it was past curfew. The customers came in saying someone was firing shots at the diner. McAtee believes it to be live rounds, went out to defend the property and his customers, but did not realise it was cops. He fires, the cops realise they are taking fire, and switch from spicy rounds to deadly ones. Without audio its very difficult to tell.

According to reports it was only two firearms that were found not 7. Additionally, this wasn't at a protest they didn't have any reason to disperse the crowd in the first place it seems like the police knew this was a well known location that attracted people and just started firing. I wonder if he went to the door because he had heard shots outside to defend his business and the people inside. First shots at police could have come from anyone in his general area firing from a more hidden direction. L G it was precautionary. There was no body cam. But we can clearly see here that he had drawn his weapon and supposedly fired at police. There’s a good reason the body cam was off, it was a riot so having your body cam wasn’t very important. Plus having it in for multiple hours would probably be a hassle.

Nothing is simple, why were the police firing anything. Are they asking for escalation? Idk. They must've had some impossible reaction time to switch from a non lethal to a lethal that quick. Nope. I have reviewed these videos in frame by frame slow motion while zooming into every scene. And also took screenshots of over 100 frames and no gun is visible in BBQ Man's hands and the object on the floor is a rectangle and not shaped like a gun. It also only appears in a couple of frames, disappears for around 60 frames and the pops back in again right when the woman points at the floor. Also the door passes right over the "gun" without even moving it. This video has obviously been tampered with.
I’m quite sure it has not been tampered with because the people who own the cameras would say if it was tampered with by the cops if you look closely either he shoots at the cops or his friend which would make more sense because in the bystanders video there is a three second pause between the first shot and the police officers return fire

It's pretty clear what happened. Go to one of the sites that has both angles. There is a girl in white pants. You can use her as a frame of reference to align the interior and exterior shots to the same time. Her white pants can be seen in the doorway of the exterior shot. By doing this you can see that: 1. The Police approach with a pepper ball gun out and pointed at the door. 2. The girl stood in the door even as officers had the pepper gun pointed at her. 3. You can see they start firing pepper balls at her. McAtee is moving through the crowd and not outside at this point. 4. McAtee grabs and pulls the girl inside and you can see the pepper ball smoke cloud outside as he does this. 6. There is a very brief moment where McAtee is grabbing his gun after pivoting from grabbing the girl and the cops outside are standing with the pepper gun pointed at the door without reaction. 7. McAtee opens fire on the officers and they fall back to find cover. 8. McAtee waits, looks, and starts firing again, which is when he is hit and killed. Why would the cops start firing pepperballs at someone on private property. In fact why did they even approach the guy's business to begin with. There were no major protestor groups or anything out front and certainly no one that was violent. As far as can be told the people there may have just been Mcatee's customers. It's also very possible that Mcatee may have mistaken the pepperball rounds for real gunfire and his response would then justifiably have been self defense. Also the cops body cameras were off which instantly makes me suspicious of their motives. This looks a lot like police using excessive force and it causing an escalation in kind. The police created the situation unecessarily so I ultimately say they're to blame here.

The cops kind of scrabbled and took cover, which is what the commentator described as "approaching the building" when in fact they were running back for cover when the footage rolls... The next time McAtee leaned out the door to fire again that's when the police opened up on him... Obviously you can't see him through the door but there is actually surveillance footage from inside the building showing what happened. I don't know why this channel didn't show the other footage or why they edited the first 30 seconds of this video is beyond me. I just asked my cop buddy about this. He says it can easily be an easy mistake. He says cops can be working 14 hr shifts and they don't turn them on while walking around like this because they're constantly around big angry crowds. So it's not about them turning it off. they just never turned them on. I think there's no protocol for bodycams in riots.

At 2:10 you can see him draw from a holster on his right hip. This is just before what appears to be pepper balls (note the signature powder clouds) impact the doorframe at about 2:17. About 2-3 seconds after this, he is leaning outside and appears to be firing the gun, then re-enters the building. 8-9 seconds later, he steps back out with arm extended similarly, appearing to be firing again, before flinching and coming back in clutching chest and dropping the gun, which another individual can be seeing pointing to. He collapses a few seconds later, falling partly into frame and knocking over the speakers.
At 4:50 is when the officer first enters frame at top center in footage from the outdoor camera. At 4:58 you can see a pepper ball impact the sidewalk. At 5:00 an officer and two guardsmen are visible approaching. You can see at 5:06 an officer with paintball gun. He appears to be the only one with weapon up. You can see at 5:13 the pepper balls hitting a water bottle and just afterwards, the door, then the officer and guardsmen turn to leave. Around 5:17 (about 2-3 seconds after the ball hit the doorframe) they react to something (perhaps gunfire), flinching, moving to cover, and raising weapons. About 8-9 seconds later we can see multiple projectile impacts and the door glass shattered.

If you were on a trip would you keep recording for the whole trip? No, and you'll probably lose some moments. This isn't the best way to say it but officers dont leave the cameras recording 24/7, and they didn't know the situation would turn dirty, so they didnt turn them on.
The footage is used selectively to push narrative, singular perspectives. If you zoom in on one side in a conflict, they are the aggressor regardless of conflict origin.

This report edited out the beginning of the video showing him shoot at the cops first. That's why the cops are going backwards when the video starts, they're running for cover. It also edited the cop giving the interview. It makes it seem like the cops approached the building for no reason. In his full interview with proper context he's saying they approached for a reason he just doesn't know what it is yet. If you watch the whole video it's pretty clear there was a reason they approached. Something happened outside that caused everyone to start running in the building to begin with. The full video is out there if you want to see it. If you get your news from this station I would suggest getting a new source, it was completely misleading...

There are two videos showing the events, one from outside the door, and one inside showing the door. If you watch both videos unedited it's plainly obvious he shot at the cops first, then got popped when he leaned out to take another shot. Why he shot at the cops is unclear. The cops were less than 20' away from him and there was plenty of light so he knew full well what he was doing... If you want to know what happened watch the full videos, seems like you're buying into the bs this station is trying to push on you...

Those cops were heading to where the gunshots came from (maybe they have even witnessed the group that was shooting). SEVEN weapons on that property (of which 6 handguns), just after a group of people were firing many heavy shots on the crowd. Coincidence that the MPs were suddenly moving towards his property?

You see shooting David twice on video, the question is why the cops and national guard were approaching his home (after hearing multiple rifle shots). The investigation till so far proves David fired twice with the found handgun. In this vid, you can also see a second man with a handgun at that doorstep (blue pants, white shirt, white cap, at 1m27). And at that time a 3rd man is likely to have a handgun too, he was behind that pillar (white pants, black jacket), he just had too much interest in those 2 armed men of which David was shooting twice at the approaching cops. 3rd man was not at all afraid. So 3rd man was experienced in this kind of situation. Armed? Gang-member (The Blood)?
The officers fired something at the doorway before or just as Mr. McAtee unholstered(which they couldn't have seen based on their angle) his weapon and then proceeded to possibly fire his weapon.
This doesn't show the full video, they cut out the part where he shot at the cops first. I'd say he fired at the cops about 10 seconds before this video starts. At the start when of the footage in this video begins, the cops aren't "approaching the building" they're running back for cover. There's also footage from inside the building that clearly shows the chain of events that ties everything together. Either the person reporting for this news station has brain damage, or they intentionally created a misleading report. Unfortunately that's why it's so important for people to diversify their news sources.
When they checked his pistol were any bullets missing, has it been recently fired, what were the results from the ballistics exam? Did Mr. Mcatee have gun powder residue on his person? @Linda you're right, the MSN video is much more complete, and you just want to cry out to stop it from happening by the time they switch to the outside camera. It seems clear from the angle of his arm (seen on the inside camera) that if David McAtee fired a shot from that pistol (it should be very straightforward to check to see whether the pistol was fired and whether he has GSR on his hand), it was a warning shot up in the air, probably because a man with a long gun was coming off of the street and onto his property and there were many people who had just rushed in to take shelter in that kitchen. An officer wearing body armor and advancing holding a long gun ahead of him like he's intending to use it on the populace, and moving from the street onto private property with that long gun ahead of him is absolutely the wrong message to send in the absence of any prior shots fired -- and at that time, no shots had been fired. But under those circumstances a warning shot would also be just about the worst thing to do, police hearing a shot (and not able to see the context) would assume they were under attack. Have the police said *why* there was an armored man with a long gun advancing in that way across the intersection?

What I saw? From here in Canada on this video. McAtee did not have a gun. The second guy did. And the cops and army were shooting into that outside door.

Cameras show pictures and had the cops cams were on, their won't be no need for speculation. With these people around, no witnesses, as to who started the shooting and had McAtee had a gun? Where are the cops camera showing McAtee firing on them, and they returning fire? All that action and all cops cam are off? From which hand did the gun fall, and which hand is his shooting hand, and where in his body did he received the shots?

The full video shows all the people outside, the cops slowly go up to them shooting them with pepper balls, the people run inside, then the store owner shoots back with a real firearm then that when the cops fired back with their real firearms. In my opinion the man was defending his business and the people around. The cops at these protest has been reckless and shooting people with them pepper balls for no reason. theres another video out of them shooting people that are just on their front porch that have nothing to do with the protests.
The cops just walked up to the guy's business and started firing pepperballs. No warnings, no attempts to engage people at the business, and there were maybe 10 people that entered the business and were out front. The cops havent changed their approach at all at these protests: textbook excessive force.

To me it seems like a horrible series of dominos falling. It was dark, there is glare from headlights, cops were in black, and approaching from an angle where they would be hard to see from the diner. I think the cops were firing pepperballs to clear people from the area as it was past curfew. The customers came in saying someone was firing shots at the diner. McAtee believes it to be live rounds, went out to defend the property and his customers, but did not realise it was cops. He fires, the cops realise they are taking fire, and switch from spicy rounds to deadly ones. Without audio its very difficult to tell.
I'm going to bet he didn't even fire his handgun, just showing he was armed and not to proceed further.

Additionally, this wasn't at a protest they didn't have any reason to disperse the crowd in the first place it seems like the police knew this was a well known location that attracted people and just started firing. This whole report is incredibly misleading and lacking in evidence.
I wonder if he went to the door because he had heard shots outside to defend his business and the people inside. First shots at police could have come from anyone in his general area firing from a more hidden direction. Cops see him in the doorway, maybe even with his gun drawn, and shoot at him with reckless abandon, not even accessing or caring that there may be innocent others, from babies to the elderly, that could also be hit. Trigger happy with no discipline. No command to drop weapon. Just shooting at first available target, damn the collateral damage. For reasons of officer safety, not public safety. Irony would have been if there was some of their cop friends in there socializing and collecting a free meal. L G it was precautionary. There was no body cam. But we can clearly see here that he had drawn his weapon and supposedly fired at police. There’s a good reason the body cam was off, it was a riot so having your body cam wasn’t very important. Plus having it in for multiple hours would probably be a hassle.

He sticks out his right hand through the door, but when he comes back in holding his chest, his hand is empty. Looking at the video again, when all those shots hit the door, you do not see any red through that screen door, but the video of him being shot shows most of his body is out of the door.

Nothing is simple, why were the police firing anything. Are they asking for escalation? Idk. They must've had some impossible reaction time to switch from a non lethal to a lethal that quick. Nope. I have reviewed these videos in frame by frame slow motion while zooming into every scene. And also took screenshots of over 100 frames and no gun is visible in BBQ Man's hands and the object on the floor is a rectangle and not shaped like a gun. It also only appears in a couple of frames, disappears for around 60 frames and the pops back in again right when the woman points at the floor.
Also the door passes right over the "gun" without even moving it.

I’m quite sure it has not been tampered with because the people who own the cameras would say if it was tampered with by the cops if you look closely either he shoots at the cops or his friend which would make more sense because in the bystanders video there is a three second pause between the first shot and the police officers return fire

It's pretty clear what happened. Go to one of the sites that has both angles. There is a girl in white pants. You can use her as a frame of reference to align the interior and exterior shots to the same time. Her white pants can be seen in the doorway of the exterior shot. By doing this you can see that:
1. The Police approach with a pepper ball gun out and pointed at the door.
2. The girl stood in the door even as officers had the pepper gun pointed at her.
3. You can see they start firing pepper balls at her. McAtee is moving through the crowd and not outside at this point.
4. McAtee grabs and pulls the girl inside and you can see the pepper ball smoke cloud outside as he does this.
6. There is a very brief moment where McAtee is grabbing his gun after pivoting from grabbing the girl and the cops outside are standing with the pepper gun pointed at the door without reaction.
7. McAtee opens fire on the officers and they fall back to find cover.
8. McAtee waits, looks, and starts firing again, which is when he is hit and killed.
Why would the cops start firing pepperballs at someone on private property. In fact why did they even approach the guy's business to begin with. There were no major protestor groups or anything out front and certainly no one that was violent. As far as can be told the people there may have just been Mcatee's customers. It's also very possible that Mcatee may have mistaken the pepperball rounds for real gunfire and his response would then justifiably have been self defense. Also the cops body cameras were off which instantly makes me suspicious of their motives. This looks a lot like police using excessive force and it causing an escalation in kind. The police created the situation unecessarily so I ultimately say they're to blame here.

In my opinion it looks like shots rang out. People ran inside, and David tried to point in the direction of where the shooters ran but officers were too jumpy and mistakenly thought he had a weapon and shot. @1:01 The video cuts in at 1:01 which is about 15seconds after AFTER McAtee shot his guns towards the cops. The cops kind of scrabbled and took cover, which is what the commentator described as "approaching the building" when in fact they were running back for cover when the footage rolls... The next time McAtee leaned out the door to fire again that's when the police opened up on him... Obviously you can't see him through the door but there is actually surveillance footage from inside the building showing what happened. I don't know why this channel didn't show the other footage or why they edited the first 30 seconds of this video is beyond me. The full video is on youtube if you want the truth, this stations is obviously not interested in reporting that...
