    Not specifically about the Skaven, but I find it interesting how much cycles and perpetuity is a must for the four main Chaos Gods-Khorne thrives off endless bloodshed, Nurgle off of the cycle of death and rebirth, Tzeentch off of a constantly shifting balance of power and Slaanesh off of pushing the limits further and further. For the Great Horned Rat, Beasts of Chaos and Archaon, they want the complete destruction of all and this discrepancy is what I think separates these factions from the others and why GW tends to focus on the four main ones. As a company, the greatest thing you can ask for is a story without end, just like the four Chaos Gods whereas the others seek a well and true end. While, it’s perhaps the most unique aspect of GW’s properties the Skaven present a problem: Should they ever succeed, well, that’s it. No more models, no more story, no more profit.
    Going with the idea of perpetuity and cycles and such, the Stormcast Eternals unintentionally benefit the Chaos Gods greatly. Khorne gets challenging and unkillable foes, Nurgle, through totems like the Hallowed Knight carry, get vectors for his diseases, Tzeentch sees insidious changes through their subsequent Reforgings, and Slaanesh appeals to their human ambitions. In trying to defeat the Chaos Gods, Sigmar created the perfect warriors to empower them.
    As for Clan Pestilens, their art and models are quite striking and I do like the religious flair over a lot of other Chaos factions. Their close relationship with another Chaos God is fascinating, and I’d honestly love to get a glimpse under the hood of how a Maggotkin and Pestilens army interacts narratively, whether they’d fight over the fates of their defeated enemies or agree to disagree.

    I'm really looking forward to the other clans getting their own Battletomes. I would love to see a fully developed Moulder or Skryer army. I also find it interesting that the Great Horned Rat is planning on replacing Nurgle as God of Pestilence. I would love seeing plague vs. plague in a novel series.

    My thoughts, you ask? Pestilence was my jumping in point of AoS just over a year ago, and here I am playing them regularly and competitively. I was the only one to bring Pestilence to NOVA open... Since though, I've expanded into Magotkin in general. But I will happily BUY and paint 120 clan rats when the Skaven Battletome drops.

    Cant say i like the idea of skaven being under the banner of chaos. They never cared for chaos back in fantasy and that felt immensely more interesting. This feels like their race is going to be defined as cultists first and everything else second. Which is the opposite of how it should be. Theres a reason an entire game was made around them literally called vermintide. Because their not chaos. Their destruction like the orks. It doesn't help that on top of that they just feel out of place among chaos. And destruction feels to empty. Like destruction is mainly just orks plus some ogres. Not to great a diversity compared to what other groups get (though death has a similar problem)

    All hail the Great Horned Rat-Rat.
    Skaven (the other clans) need more fleshing out. They’re so unique it a massive missed opportunity to not utilise them.
    They should basically do a Beast of Chaos battletome for Skaven. Call it the Skaven Great Clan Battletome and have synergies where is you choose a Clan eligience and it gives you buffs to certain units or changes the battle-line key words for units. Like the Allherd, Darkwalkers and Gravespawn abilities for BoC.
    The three smaller clans would band together (uncharacteristicly) because Clan
    Estilens has gotten so big and so powerful. This could lead to so many cool story lines where there’s Skaven civil wars or/Skaven become a bigger threat as they’re working together for once.
    Would also love to see one or two more new miniatures added for Clan Pestilens. They’re so limited. Maybe a table top version of the bloated corpse in the Vampire Coasts (Total War Warhammer). I’d love to see a massive fat rat skitter up to the enemy and explode in a glorious splat of toxic warfare.
    Maybe a new cavalry type unit for Skaven as I think they need something fast to help out. Forgeworld have rat-wolves. I’ve seen someone convert Kharadron Overlord ships into Skaven based stuff. That would be cool.
    Speaking of which I think GW should expand on they flying battles idea they sort of started developing. Every faction should get one or two (or way to convert) miniatures into flying arrangements.
    Ranting again. Sorry.
    Still loving the videos! Will you do Beastclaw Raiders Lore for Christmas haha? Keep up the great great work.

    Another good example would be between the followers Khorne and the Daughters of Khaine. Both crave bloodshed, both sacrifice bloodily to their god. Both crave violence. And both gods are fueled by bloodshed and murder. But both are opposed to eachother and are mortal enemies as the Daughters of Khaine hate all chaos, and The followers of Khorne would sooner see them dead than ally with a rival murder god. They only benefit from each others actions through osmosis. That's why these two factions who seem they would make great allies hate each other even though they share similiar beliefs.
    Right now the Pestelans and followers of Nurgle have close-enough goals that they can work as allies without turning on eachother (for now anyway). Some Pestilens are even allowed in Nurgles garden as a symbol of good faith and are described as the Vermin in the garden. All gardens need vermin now don't they.

    I like to say the Great Horned Rat is kinda like a fusion of Tzeentch and Nurgle. The conniving plans and schemes of Tzeentch combined with the plagues of Nurgle. Not to mention Tzeentch and Nurgle hate each other and multiply that by Skaven and boom. Its moreso for comparison purposes than i would say its headcanon.

    Don't know if this comment will be seen, but I'm really interested in AoS lore (can't really afford the models and paints) specifically clan pestilen and other ratfolk. My question(s) is what are some clan pestilen books I
    can pick up (or any other book on different skaven clans) and should I read skaven books that took place in the old world before/during the end times (warhammer fantasy)

    they need a new battletome but the other rats need one first. Actually all the rats should be in one battletome, a new one, thats up to date with the other new ones. Obviously it would have lore about chewing wormholes between realms, and something about if or not the great horney rat is actually a chaos god (please no). Also other things, hates dwarfs or something as a racial attribute maybe.

    • @2Tough
      @2Tough  6 лет назад

      Totally agree! I think they need an update... but Im OK with pestilens being it's own thing because of a unique relationship with Nurgle.

    • @gwell2118
      @gwell2118 6 лет назад +1

      The clan Skyre will likely be the next one as they recently got faction rules in the last Generals Handbook and that is usually the herald of an eventual battletome release for the army.

  • @magnos_decimus
    @magnos_decimus 6 лет назад

    You should also remember the Nurgle is also about Despair which is something people almost always forget. People think Nurgle is Jolly and happy like Santa Claus but he needs his servants to be in despair and misery which would cancels out the idea of Nurgle troops being happy, I would think

    • @2Tough

      @@2Tough Here is another thing that I thought about regarding the Great Plagues, clearly some of them require things that belong to certain chaos gods or blessings. So by that logic I would say that two of the missing Plague ingrediencies come from Tzeentch and Slaanesh.
      And I'm hoping that the plague ingredient they need from Slaanesh results in his release, such as a Clan Pestilens war Party frees him either by accident or foolish intent. Slaanesh would wipe out both the war party and his captures by himself and be escape, making it that much hard for clan Pestilens to obtain the plague ingredient.
