I believe the Yorubas braid it from front to back called dindin; it’s braided flat on the scalp. Very ethnic and unique. All the same, all African traditional hair weaving, plating and braiding are gorgeous.
This is how I learned to braid (growing up with my family of braiders in Alabama)! I didn't know it was a specific style, I just knew my braids lasted longer this way~ love it!
Interesting, when I first started braiding over 10 years ago for some reason this is how I braided ( self taught) then I was like why my braids look so different from others! I shortly realized I was braiding overhand instead of underhand. I soon learned both techniques, however, I do more underhand now, occasionally overhand when I want a flat braid, or french braid! Now I might try this style!! Thank you .

I learned how to braid like this years ago. It helps with stress on your edges as well. I don’t know who came up with knotless braids but this method has been out since forever..
My mom taught me how to plait this way when I was 8 I’m 46 & still plait this way. I have locs now but I plait my granddaughter hair this way. It’s very gentle on the hair. It doesn’t pull nor cause strain to the follicles.
I love inside braiding! It’s the only way I can braid!! So this was perfect. I like this technique of adding the hair too! So many people get the overhand method confused for the underhand method & get mad when they’re corrected. THIS is TRUE OVERHAND/INSIDE braiding. Your hands overlap on top of one another when braiding each strand. That’s all it means. But the braid envelopes on itself. That’s why it’s called inside/inversion. Great video!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾✨ Can’t wait to start practicing. 👩🏾🦱
Love the hairstyle, my issue is the edges pulled. Other than that, the hair came out so perfect. Back when I started braiding, we call it tuck in. Just subbed.
