    • @FoolishBaseball
      @FoolishBaseball  5 лет назад +159

      He arguably should have won in 2012, and had a couple more taken away due to injury. He had the best peripherals in 2015. Could have easily won more during that seven year stretch.

    • @TheRabidbunnies
      @TheRabidbunnies 5 лет назад +30

      @@FoolishBaseball Definitely 2012 he deserved it, I think it was just all the hype arount a knuckleballer like Dickey that made it a cooler story, otherwise I really think that was Kersh's. I would possibly argue that 2016 he was the best pitcher in baseball as well by most metrics, he just came about 10 or so innings short of meeting the qualifier marks because of his injury, but when he pitched he was by far and away the best pitcher to my (biased Dodger fan) eye.
      2015 is tough because he was being compared to his own teammate who was having a historic year in Greinke and then of course Arrieta doing what he did in the 2nd half made their ERAs look pretty, and we weren't really as reliant as peripherals as we are now, so I can possibly let that one slide. 2017 I thought he had a shot, too, but I think Scherzer was the better pitcher that year. So I would say overall he definitely shoulda had one more, and you can possibly argue for 2 more on top of that

    • @TheRabidbunnies
      @TheRabidbunnies 5 лет назад +3

      @Paul WT If you're talking about 2016, you really don't have much of an argument there if you look just at ERA - if it was based on ERA, Kershaw shoulda won that year with a 1.69 ERA, half a run lower than Hendricks, as you say. Kershaw even had a 0.725 WHIP, which is the lowest we'd seen in the NL in years.
      Therefore, I personally think Kershaw shoulda won because he was the best pitcher, but he missed time due to injury so his innings were low, so I can see why Max won. Max was the better overall pitcher when you consider IP, WHIP, and Ks, even wins (though I don't really care about pitcher wins). Yeah he was team was worse, but in baseball individual awards have nothing to do with team success because you can be the best player of all time but have a shitty team. If anything, Max should be rewarded for being able to pitch so well with a worse team behind him

    Sly old dog update. Kershaw is now 4-1 in 5 2020 starts. ERA down to 1.80. 33 K, 30 IP. 9.9 K/9 IP, 8.25 K:BB, WHIP is still dead sexy at 0.767, and his ERA+ is up to a Pedro Martinez-like 245.
    His FIP is still high for Kershaw at 3.51, but it dropped nearly a half point from this last start. After one minor blip on his season, a loss against the Giants August 8th (at home), Kershaw has been the CK of old. His 4th won came against those same Giants-IN San Francisco. 6 IP of 4 hit shutout baseball. No walks, 4 k.
    Batters have a .566 OPS against Kershaw in 2020.
    His last three starts, CK is 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA. Opponents have hit .132 and OPSd .434 the last three games.

In fact, re-releases of the SNES version of the game in the West still get the 'original-to-the-West' FF3 label and art, even though it is otherwise the sixth installment in the franchise (and known as such in the other regions that got 2, 3 and 5)..

He got drafted and during his physical, they found significant damage in his elbow. He messed around with a knuckleball during practice in college, so started to try to throw it in order to have a career since he was "damaged goods".

    He passed Koufax in strikeouts tonight and it brought a lot of haters out to cut him down. It's crazy to see people dismiss Kershaw, his career and accomplishments just because he hasn't won a ring yet. He still has a few years left and the Dodgers are set up to be contenders for all of them. He'll get his ring and maybe another to match. Hall of Fame is a lock and maybe even on the first ballot.
    Not every legend won it all in their first try. Roger Clemens went 13 years between postseason wins, then turned around and won back to back World Series.

      I discount Koufax's career. He played 12 years, first 6 he was a bum. Only thing of note he did in that time was lead the NL in losses and wild pitches once each. Then he had 1 mediocre season with like 18 wins and a good amount of K's but also an ERA of like 3.90 os some shit. Then he went pitched like a legend for 5 years. Then he fucking retires at 30. I don't even think he belongs in the HOF. There's tons of other guys who had 5 or 6 amazing years then they had to quit cuz of an injury or their ability fell off and they've never been or won't ever be considered for the HOF.

    • @jamesanthony5681
      @jamesanthony5681 2 года назад +1

      @@unkledoda420 He certainly belongs in Cooperstown. Those 5, 6 years were as dominant as any pitcher in history, leading the NL in ERA for 5 straight years, WHIP under 1.0 (average), pitching all those complete games, winning 3 Cy's when baseball awarded only 1 per season (until 1967). Leo Durocher said if he had his choice of just 1 pitcher to win 1 important game, it'd be Koufax. Casey Stengel, who saw them all up to 1975, said Koufax was the best he's seen. Pete Rose batted .175 lifetime (1963-66) against Sandy. Name a pitcher who had *THAT* kind of dominance, and accomplishments (stats) who is not in Cooperstown?
      He retired because of an arthritic elbow that doctors said if worsened could result in loss of arm. Watching him pitch from the center field camera, you can see why he had that injury.
