I love the idea of the idea of a dado on the side for the door to go into. Not only to hide mistakes but also to cut down on dust entering the cabinet. I am in the middle of designing cabinetry for my shop and will definitely use this idea. Always enjoy watching your videos! Thanks!
Nice job....I think I just found a new possible project for my Wifey. Well, a project she will say "YES, I like it....when can you build it?" Keep up the great work!!!!!
Nice cabinet! I once built a similar, but larger one, that the doors started to 'rack' while trying to open them. The wood on wood friction eventually started wearing out the bottom dado making it almost a two handed operation to slide the door. I glued scrap laminate from a kitchen counter project to the bottom edge of the door and in the bottom of the dado. A little car wax or dry film lubricant made it slide nicely. p.s. Blowing the dust out of the hole didn't look odd at all ! ;) Thanks for sharing your work!
there's so much information in here that's kinda like a throwaway, but super helpful. drawing out the dados (duh, why didn't I think of that?) to prevent mistakes. The homemade dado router fence. Etc. Thank you!
Great project. If you find that the doors begin to bind in the future you can cut a piece of hardwood with dados routed in it to cover and replace the bottom grooves cut in the bottom of the cabinet. That way it’s not plywood against plywood. The dados in hardwood will be smoother than the plywood. You will have to cut a bit off the bottom of the doors to make them fit into the board
Very nice and boy do I love seeing ALL THE STUFF available in N.America to woodworkers. Will look up your router table this winter when I upgrade my router....cheers...rr Normandy, France.
And here I am complaining about how there are so many things I can't get that are easily accessible in the US... I'll remember to appreciate what I have!
0:11 I am storing my hand tools, nails, screws etc. relatively far away on purpose so that I walk more. As a hobby woodworker, I can afford the "lost time" and after 8hrs in the office, that´s all I want.
Talking about office jobs..... I have a printer 2 ft behind me, but I print to the wireless printer that is 30 ft away "for the exercise." As the one who preaches efficiency at work, we all make fun of me for it. Self awareness is as important as efficiency sometimes! lol.
I can relate, but I feel like I spend my time in the shop moving stuff around and walking A LOT! Having this cabinet here for me eliminates a source of frustration and that makes me really happy!
Thanks for sharing, that's a good build for folks to see and use. And especially that beautiful moment when you whack your noggin while carrying something with real momentum to really drive you home! (Now that's real life woodwork!) :-)
Hi Mary my name is Andy I to live on the north I wanted to say that I watch your channel a lot and I used your idea of scape cart ,love it thinking of your groove jig and yard dice that’s all Minnesota love channel
I do sometimes, but it's relatively far from me and traffic is always a nightmare. Price aren't always competitive either, but they've got a great selection of hardwoods.
Great video. Glad I found it. There are some very helpful tips. First video I have seen where the edge of the door is hidden in a slot. I like that idea a lot, makes sense. I also liked the router being used so much in this project. Maybe some holes on the inside for shelf adjustment, along with a ridged center shelf for strength. Take Care and God Bless
Great little cabinet. I'll be looking to build something similar in the future for some long-term storage in my shop. I'll definitely keep this design in mind.
Nice build... exactly what I'm looking for. I have extra plywood and a sheet of 1/4 pegboard that will make great doors. Tx! As a suggestion/tip... if you don't use handle hardware (using simple finger hole pulls like you show), you can add the extra dados on the sides of the cabinets while you are cutting things before assembly to allow you to slide the doors to either side to close it up. ;)
Bonjour Marie. I watched this build when you first released it, and appreciated the simplicity of your design. Just wondering how the tracks you routed are wearing now that a couple of years have passed. I'm especially curious how the middle strips are holding up. Thanks / merci for this, and for all of your terrific videos and ideas.
Omg, I love that so much! Your video gives me confidence to make my first dado project! And, if I was 6 instad of 60, 🎶 YOU like the cinder wall, 🎶 YOU like the cinder wall! 😘😘😘🤣
Bonjour, très belle armoire, super bien réalisée, super vidéo, merci pour le partage 😉👍( Hello, very nice wardrobe, super well done, great video, thank you for sharing)
I don’t understand most of the tools names and technical terms, but I ALWAYS enjoy watching your videos. I’m impressed by how detailed and thoughtful your plannings had been. And I also love the angle of your video recordings and, of course, the clear, concise, and funny voice over🤩
The whole point of watching DIY videos is to learn the names of tools, hardware, and techniques. Don't trivialize this. Make and effort and learn. It is not rocket science.
Hello. Love all of your projects but especially the way you explain them. Love the organization boxes and the labeling. I do the same. But I’m curious (and partially poking fun) - if you’d go to the trouble of labeling most things why not take the product stickers off the boxes? Just a pet peeve of mine. Great content as always. Can’t wait for next project.
Ha ha ha! Yes, a pet peeve of mine too! All labels should go. A heat gun on low for a few seconds will soften glue and enable peel off. Mineral spirits remove any residual glue. If you heat it up gently, there is usually no residual sticker glue left behind.
Nice cabinet, Marie. Here's an idea. When you measured for the router spacer, saw a piece that wide and use it to line up your router fence. That would eliminate measuring. Couldn't you figure out how to incorporate hexagons into this one (lol)? Take care. Bill
Ah yes, of course. You know, I've actually done this before (and usually do) but slipped my mind this time. So many tips to remember, sometimes I forget my own!
Lol what are the chances that I am in and from Montreal and was looking to do this exact cabinet, since Ikea doesn't seem to distribute the IVAR sliding door cabinet here anymore. Thank you! It was on point!
That ply looks good ! A couple of weeks ago I got some 18 mm and12 mm ply delivered and it's anything but flat. 😢 Haven't built anything with sliding doors for years, they really look neat. For blowing out masonry dust, try an empty squeezy bottle. I'm envious of those storage containers, beats my IKEA tub selection 😉
Cracking build Marie and a great idea as well, also what's wrong with labelling stuff anyway? i do it all the time i'm a stickler for labelling and putting stuff back as well ha ha ha. There's a place for everything and everything in it's place. Stay Safe, Barry (ENG)
Not sure why, but I always feel weird sticking labels on my stuff, as if I don't know what my own things are lol. No matter, it feels great to be organized and have everything in its place! We'll see how long it lasts...
During recovery from surgery, my wife was in need of some parts and tools. It worked wonders when I simply told her the name of each labeled toolbox drawer where she found each item 💯🙊😁
@@DIYMontreal she got her tasks done quickly - and doesn't make fun of my labeling anymore 😉 And I have a new knee on one side and new hip on the other! Feel great, like half og a brand new man! 🤣😎
Can you please tell me how you fastened your cabinet on the support beem you drilled into the wall? It looks as if you simply made it rest on the beam. Thanks!
Very nice video with perfect, well structured explanations... Aren't half inch doors a bit of an overkill though? I'm not a pro by any means, but I remember my father using something like 4-5mm (so like 3/16" )? Probably couldnt fit the red handle , I admit :)
This wall is fully above ground and is sealed and painted from the outside. I haven't observed any humidity issues. That being said, I plan to remove the cabinet and paint the wall to seal it. Just didn't have time to do it before the video.
Perfect! thats my dream cabinet! im on the verge of buying the plans but i want mine to be 32x32 is it gonna be hard to do the math to make that happen? i dont wanna change any of the measurements but 36in is slightly too big for my spot
Great work! Do you leave any commonly used screws more accessible in open bins? I think I'd go crazy if I had to open a cabinet every time for certain lengths of #8 square drive screws. But a lot of the others (and nails), I'd be happy to put in that cabinet. As a big fan of mid century furniture, I appreciate the tips for sliding doors. Thank you!
I applaud your cabinet build. The only thing I would have done differently is install shelf standards. That way you could lower or raise the shelves if need be. Other then that, nice project. Thumbs Up!

Great simple cabinet. Very cool with the sliding doors. No extra "BS" with latches, hinges, and so forth. 👍
Neat and clean ! Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Well done Marie.... as always. And the red finger pull hardware was the perfect touch.
Great job! I built similar cabinets for my workshop about 8 years ago and it's one of the best upgrades my shop has seen.
Right on!
Great project with excellent editing showing all important steps.
Thank you very much!
Top tip about the top dado needing to be deeper!
The labels and the organization made this all so worth it!
Great little cabinet. Great video. I think everyone can appreciate how good it feels to have things organized.
Absolutely! We all procrastinate about it I think... but feels so much better once it's done :)
Nice wall cabinet , what every wood worker should have in their shop, good job.

Well done, Marie! Seems like a great weekend build - so I guess we all know what I'm doing this weekend.
Enjoy!!
Any time you don't need to buy hardware is a good time!!
But I love those plastic boxes from PA. Definitely will have to check those out!!
Absolutely! They have a great selection for different shapes and sizes. Check em out!
Great video! And you had me at “Princess Auto”. Best place ever
Very well done. The humor was a plus. A great cabinet build video plus a few free laughs. Thank you, well done, Miss Marie.

I'm surprised you don't go to Langevin for your lumber. Their prices and choices are much better. Another great, quick project.
Have you tried to get to Langevin recently? Someone please tell me the construction on Pie IX will be over soon!

Thanks for making this video. Can I use your plan to make this with melamine?
Just have one question. How will the top bottom shelf support all the weight of the screws? Won't it get bumped over time?

The pocket screws and glue should be able to handle the weight.
