Drew Carey was able to get another shot on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson because of his solid first shot, but he didn't get to the couch because Johnny didn't want to bump Regis.
Drew's first appearance was 11/8/91 and this is 1/10/92. That's not a lot of time. As many comics have attested, you brought your A-grade material to your first Carson appearance. It takes you YEARS to craft that performance. Having another set ready TWO MONTHS later? Pretty hard. I give him credit for having this as entertaining as it was.
Thinking the same thing, he knew it too, but he pulled it together and landed on one ski like the pro he had become. That fist appearance was a hard one to live up to. Always loved his stuff.
Johnny said on one episode that the first ten years of his shows were wiped (taped over with other shows). It was normal to reuse film like that in those days. It could be that more than ten years of his shows were wiped though. Such a shame.
Johnny Carson is better, has more talent and more laughs than any of these stupid woke late night hosts of today. What happened to Drew Carey, he used to be good back in the day, not a big fan.
He pretty much killed off PIR for me. Seemed way out of his element; whatever that element of his may be. Never found his sitcom to be particularly entertaining either.
"Nothing like getting ripped-off by a dead hillbilly." I hadn't laughed that hard at a comedian in forever.
Drew has come a long way. I hope he's enjoying his life.
Johnny genuinely liked Drew.
Then why didn't he invite him over to chat? That's how you know.
@@hagbard72 he did the first appearance
@@hagbard72because a big star was on next, you don't bump Regis
I'd rather watch vintage clips of "The Tonight Show" compared to the Gen Z version out now!
I think you mean Gen X, Fallon was born in 74.
Gen Z isn’t watching The Tonight Show 😂
Good times
Aren’t you original
Well, go back there then and leave us alone
@@matts6827 Bitter and rude Merry Christmas to you.

He had such a huge score on his debut shot there was no way he could match it here. Good but not the same level.
Not even close. He really just doesn't have it here in this performance.

@@PrimarchX I agree, also he had to setup the jokes more here. But still solid score on this appearance.

he drew my attention when I first saw him.
Dad joke!!
That’s funny! Did Johnny ask him to come sit down like he did on his first time there?
Drew did have a life before game shows 😂
Drew Carey show was hilarious. Also who's line is anyway.
Rodney Dangerfield and Drew Carey. Two wonderful comedians. Very similar comedic approach to joke telling.
Drew couldn’t carry Rodney’s lunch
Drew is my favorite
That was good
This was before he was given a table with a buzzer 😅
Drew Carry is an authentic nerd.
Someone should cast him as an evil guy. For the shock value... Like they did Max Baer Jr in A Time For Killing.
Didn't Johnny retire in 92?
Yeah, his last show was Friday, May 22nd.
When are we getting the old Harrison ford interviews
Do you have any clips of him interviewing Gore Vidal on 5/4/1967? I need it for a paper I’m writing

@@mattstevens7601 there are still clips from the 60s, not everything was lost
That comedy vagabond!

I wonder what ever happened to Drew Carey? You don't hear much about him anymore.
Its a joke.
Thanks for reminding me of Drew Carey. He was Funny but i forgot what show he did. Something to do with Cincinnati Ohio ?
What a waste that he's on TPIR and not on Whose Line.
price is right is more fun !
Dude, he's perfect on TPIR.
Drew was tedious, glad he got a game show. I don't watch those.
Before he went strange

Drew's got the same humor on the price is right. A jab here and there. Kind of Libertarian/Liberal and always was.
buhahahahahaha
Never really considered Drew to be all that funny but I've seen alot worse acts from "successful " comedians than this.
Glad drew found price is right. Pretty bad standup
