His prediction about people being obsessed with phones 30 years later was incredibly spot on
It wasn't a prediction. He was saying people were already phone obsessed.
@@SpeccyHorace Actually he did predict the future pointing to his ear and taking a call. That's done today with earbuds
@@SpeccyHoraceWhat? He was literally predicting what phones would become in the future
stanley kubrick predicted it in 1968
When talking about his wife I'm picturing Patrica Heaton. 😂
"hey!, how come you haven't said anything about Debra?!?
"I don't have a problem with debra! *looks at her* "you're alright coo-kie, Atcha! cha! cha!
His wife is patricia heaton
@@danbushnell8043 On the show.
This whole monologue could have been a show
"People are a little too phone obsessed now..."? Wow, little did he know.
BINGO!
The obsession was only in its infancy
Considering most people are likely watching this clip on their phone!
@@peterboissonnault8445 🤚stupid phones I'm throwing mine in the dumpster just as soon as I type this comment.
GTO Lol like the one Zach had on 'Saves By The Bell'?
So many legends were born on this show.
"Go get your mother I'll explain it to the both of ya" = GOLD
Ray Romano predicted the future with the phones
Fr
He got the phones right but not faxes ...
@@khaledyafai5473 Its weird people really thought fax was gonna be around forever
@@TommyWashow some people still use them, its pretty funny to see them in the wild
@@randommodnar7141 yeah the technology behind it is extremely impressive but its only useful in narrow senarios
Anyone else realize he just conceptualized the Bluetooth headset
Trippy!
Yes!
And call conference. Can you do that in the 90's? I have may first cell phone was in 2000. It was a huge Motorola phone and I'm sure it can't do that. Or maybe just my provider.
And the ass-fax!
glthe globalists told him that bit
That last joke was absolute gold LOL
I think that was a pedophile joke you sick bastard.
Yes it very much was. I scared my wife I laughed so hard
"I'll explain it to both of you." LOL!
Great line! Yeah I was married once
nick cifuno 😂
Hahahahahaha. Hilarious
@@nickpaineMe too. Sadly, very relatable
I loved his "my wife wrote that" insert. People automatically assume messy room if there's a bug.
That was so TRUE! Don't you DARE tell them about a bug in MY CLEAN BATHROOM, unless you tell them how clean it is!!!
*"People automatically assume messy room if there's a bug."*
That's true. And it's the people with the cleanest homes that are the most disturbed about bugs. If people didn't care about seeing bugs, they wouldn't let their homes attract them in the first place!
“My sex life came to such a screeching hault an airbag popped out of the bed.”
I died lmfao. This type of humor is just legendary at this point😂😂😂
The phone bit is remarkably accurate.
Rays humor has held up very well over time
I love that he included so many bits of this stand up years later on his show.
Missing the best part - when Johnny congratulates Ray and invites him over. That's the moment his life changes forever.
What do you mean? Have you seen this episode in it's entirety?
Nope. Letterman
You probably dont care but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Arlo Dane instablaster =)
Not really. He himself said everything changed when he did letterman
Thank you Mr. Carson for being such an important part of my Life in my formative Growing into an Young Man years. When I was growing up My Parents Let Me watch You knowing You were Fair on Politics.
I have a feeling everyone is gonna love this guy.
😅
Might be the most underrated stand-up comedian, ever.
Hilarious! Ray Romano is great! I miss 'Everybody Loves Raymond'.. what a great show, what a great cast!
I know every show by heart
I didn't go anywhere lol.
I also liked the series he did after ELR, "Men of a Certain Age" from 2009 to 2011 with Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula as three middle aged friends who had been friends since childhood. Raymond was a divorced father, Andre a family man and Scott was never married, unsuccessful actor.
Well worth watching always! Both Johnny Carson and Ray Romano....great predictions and observational in 1991!!!
An actual entertainer ,very rare.
For once something aged perfectly.
Starting out with two longer bits is tough and he did it. Punchlines make it worth it. TV audiences aren’t used to going that long with no reaction! Good guy that Ray
Actually quite sophisticated for 1991, imo. Predicted bluetooth earphones. By now we are all used to Ray’s material. It was like a 50’s sitcom where the parents are reversed. The mother knows best, and the dad is just another child for her to deal with.
@MG Stevens I can't tell if that was sarcasm, but either way...spot on for our house. xD
MG Stevens beta
He was psychic about the phones.
Except that phones today are rarely used to make phone calls. LOL
No bad language or profanity, still funny. That makes him a rare animal in today's entertainment industry.
No bad language or profanity? You do know this was the Tonight Show, right?
RED SKELTON comedy - without the funny faces.
@Paddy Orourke Just finished watching Fred Klett, really funny. Thanks for the heads up.
Try DryBar on youtube. Incredibly creative and funny. Adult, but clean
@@martinharper221 Somehow I stumbled across Fred klet on Drybart. Really funny. Thanks for the tip, one way or another I think I was destined to find that channel.
His bit about phones was entirely prophetic.
What a cute guy. I just love him on the sitcom.
Thanks
Every time he mentions his wife, I see Patricia Heaton in my mind’s eye
Same
Patricia Heaton is 62 now.. I want to give her a hug..
lol!
It's what made the show, you really thought they were married.
For real!!
Thanks Ray!
He is such a solid comic.
Love Ray! My older sister pointed to my dad when he was in bathroom when she was little and said “daddy you have a tail!”
My kid pointed to me and said, daddy are you Ray? lol.
I queued all the Everybody Loves Raymond bloopers for New Years and had our sons cracking up. None of us ever watched the originals. Amazingly talented cast and production staff.
Well, he's got the phone prediction right.
a crazy idea today will be an everyday thing tomorrow.
I love the slow build with his humor. Like gut punches that pay off later in a fight.
Great routine. Very funny. The last line was hysterical😅
Well he predicted everything :D
Except who still gets a fax any more?
@@robertscott2210 ... especially out of your butt. They stopped making that model in '95.
@@robertscott2210 electronic faxes are very common in the medical field
Faxes largely replaced by email around 1995. Our butts are grateful.
Drew Carey and Ray Romano became comedy giants and appeared exactly one week of each other. Crazy..
I absolutely love him!!!
"A pocket phone".....if only he knew!! Lmao!
Prophetic comedy brought to you by Ray Ramano. Excellent stuff!
Ray is so adorable!! I was hoping to find a man like that after my divorce, but haven't yet, I'll remain single until I do, but at this stage in my life, I'm happy being single😊😊😊
I'm mistaken for Ray 3 times a day.
Wow / showing/ telling the future!
This was a mammoth performance !
That is genius comedy. Romano had the audience owned in the first minute. Did he cuss?.......No!!!! Brilliant.
I live in Poughkeepsie NY. Bananas was a small comedy club in a Holiday Inn. It's amazing that Romano goes from the Tonight Show to this club.
I only saw his TV show in syndication and it was funny. He really seems like a nice guy and dare I say, normal lol
ELR was one hilarious sitcom, outstanding cast still watch the reruns :)
I agree. My favorite of all time!!!
How many times did Frank or Robert steal the scene? Great thing about Ray is he let them!
I really love Raymond!!
I just hope his career go well.
Rofl
it doesn't. he gets berated by his wife every single day
0:34 man did he see the future!
Amazing observation about the future of communication as describe today’s cell phone, decades before it happened! First two minutes of show.
That has to be the best ever comedy presentation. My aching sides from laughing so hard are finite evidence.
Johnny gave Ray his first big break, and Dave gave him his second one.
She wants 5 kids. That's never going to happen. (Romano has 4 kids)
Yup.
He told Letterman that if he hadn't gotten the ELR show he couldn't have afforded four kids.
So I guess he was right
He's catholic i belive so four kids is a small family
@@dallasponder3396 Growing up Roman Catholic with three siblings. We barely took up a fourth of the pew. There were families that took up a pew and a half. One family took two pews. The pews were massive. I asked, ‘why do they have so many children and our family is small?’ Moma said, ‘We are not Farmers. We live in a city, in the suburbs. We’re not raising Farmhands.’ I still laugh about it to this day; in my 60s. 😀😃😄😁😆😅😂🤣 Everyone have a blessed day today and every day 🌎❤️😊
Swear I thought he was predicting the Air Pods!!!
He had the same basic comedy on E.L.R. Subtle but Gold. Little did he know standing here at 32 years old that he was going to go on and make a couple hundred million. He is still married to the same woman BTW and everything I have ever heard/seen about him is that he is a great guy and person. Legit!
And it’s all true “Everybody Loves Raymond”
Hi, how are you doing. I trust you're safe and in good health. God bless you........ I'm looking for new friend okay 😊
No we don t, Del
I appreciate that.
Ray's best line was when he said "my wife was after me for cracking jokes at her expense and I just told her to go cry in a big bag of money"
Great insight on phones!!!!
He's like an Italian Jerry Seinfeld.
And neither were funny. But the other actors made them.
@@jimskenadore1791Well they play the straight man for the most part, like Bob Newhart. The show is their standup material come to life.
But not nearly as ANNOYING OR CONCEITED.
Thanks but I'm not Italian.
@@jamezkpal2361 Bob Newhart was never a ham for the camera.
I don't think Johnny knows where "Po-kipskie New York" is.
That was great for a first appearance. Very funny
pretty prophetic talking about our phone obsession.
Awwwww...he's so CUTE!!!!!!!!
The way he's pressing the phones on his ears...that's the bluetooth technology nowadays. Right on the money on the prediction.😆
As I listen on my phone with one AirPod in my ear... 👀
Watching ELR reruns he used a lot of these jokes in the show lol.
That is very common when comedians get shows
You ever see the outakes he has a new joke for every take he does. It's hysterical.
Where it all began Everybody does love Raymond ❤️❤️
I looked up Ray Romano on Google and his wife and him are still together since 1987 and in the video he joked that his wife wanted five kids, but they ended up with four. Honestly seems like a good man
WTF that was such an awesome solid performance.
The phone bit at the beginning might come true. Watch out
He gave the idea to the bluetooth inventors
@@hectorleosmartinez5800 no, there might actually be a chip put inside your head. If it came to that, I wouldn't live here

Everybody loves this guy.
That really was Hilarious!!!
Excellent debut!
" Shapes Of Things To Come"
finally. I've been searching for this
Love him!
Wow! Ray met Carson!
I never watched Ray do stand-up comedy before he became famous until now, and he was funny.
Funny and great delivery !
Back in the 60's you would see someone that looked homeless walking along talking to themselves.
Everyone believed they were just crazy, but they were just testing the implant phones of the future.
If Ray's sitcom was as funny as his stand up, it wouldn't have absolutely tanked here in the UK.
It’s funny, Ray is probably the only comic who made it cuz of his first Letterman appearance and not a Carson appearance. Usually it’s Carson’s seal of approval that seals your career.
Yeah this was mere months before Johnny retired which is probably why.
A day or two before, Drew Carey made his first appearance on The Tonight Show. Drew was hysterical. Johnny waved Drew over to sit and talk after the set, which was very rare for a comedian's first appearance.
The day after Ray Romano appeared, he called Drew and said, "Thanks for sucking all of the air out of the room."
i thought ray was funnier than Drew
169 people that are either disappointed he didn't drop 20 "F-Bombs," or his phone bit hit a little too close to home for them.
Good comedy is timeless.
need these videos more frequently
Yes please!
Funny guy. Lol. So refreshing
Brilliant Comedian
He was prophetic about the phone!
Wow... back when comedy, was comedy, and politics, was politics. Great stuff
Wow. Everybody loves him!
He's brilliant in Get Shorty.
Saw Leno at an RX convention in 1991. One hour plus of straight comedy. Nary a curse word. Had 3,000 pharmacists rolling!
As an aside, it totally sux about the Cos. Grew up with him as a kid and still have 4 or 5 lps that we wore out. To Russell, my Brother...
Such a betrayal.
The way he picked up the phone
Ray was a comic genius from the start. The material still works today. Not to mention his good as it gets delivery.
The look on Romano's face during first part of his delivery - 'Gee, I wonder if this Carson audience is gonna cut it....'
I love Ray
The phone bit was right on
