Phantasy star is the reason I'm into gaming, I can't believe it's been almost 33 years since I first played it... I always felt like an outcast since no one knew what the hell I was talking about. My friends used to tease me since I would talk about it so much "What's the matter, couldn't kill Lassic again??"
You were the first one I found online that actually talked about and with the same passion I do, to this day.

The first Phantasy Star game I got was Phantasy Star 3, it’s sort of the black sheep of the Phantasy Star series but I enjoyed it.
I’m pretty new to the channel but dang your excitement gives me a good smile :) it’s so nice to see the passion for games in a pure form of joy.

Just been playing Soul Hackers 2, ever since the most recent update it's been a lot more fast paced and enjoyable to play.
Just grabbed my copy yesterday I'm excited
at 11:20 I feel exactly the same way in regard of 80s and 90s video game artwork. Those box art ( and booklet artwork) felt so personal and unique. Many legendary video game illustrator still working now, started in the 80s 90s when they were already extremely good but very young. so fascinating and I love it!

I picked up and started to play Zelda's Breath of the wild. I played it for 20 hours this weekend 🤭
I got Phantasy Star the year it came out here in the UK. It was £49.99 and changed my life.

Wunderland was the nickel arcade here in Eugene, Oregon.. So much fun in the 80's/90s, I think there still is one in Salem and maybe Portland

That hand-drawn Castlevania guide is gorgeous! I picked up a pair of 7.1 Surround Sound PlayStation Gold headphones. They are absolutely spectacular! I watched a 4K Dolby Atmos copy of Jurassic World last night and it was IMAX in my brain, I've never had such a pristine, bassy, theatrical sound experience in my home. I want to rewatch everything, it's like experiencing it in the cinema for the first time.
Phantasy Star is one of my all-time favourites as well; it's sad that the people behind the games didn't get proper credits in those days, but I remember two distinctly from PS: Bo (Sound) & the first lady of video games (at least for me), Phoenix Rie

the reason why the artwork feels like homemade, is because graphic design tools werent very good at the time and so it was easier to draw, color, and scan and then correct that scan in digital. Now everything is either made from a image assets and or digital created from the start. Tools like the wacom tablet really started bluring the digital and illustrative world in the last 20'ish years. Im a graphic designer. 15 yr professional.

Just got a PS5 after two years with the Series X and I’m so happy I can play the gigantic backlog of exclusives I have missed out on
RIP Rieko Kodama! I also got that vinyl, and the one for Phantasy Star II. But the latter one wasn't the limited edition, so I'm on the hunt for it.
I bought Thor’s Hammer from God of War Ragnarok off EBay lol. I didn’t want anything else from the collector’s edition especially since they DIDNT INCLUDE THE PHYSICAL GAME!!! 🤦🏻♂️
I also bought Sam Porter Bridges Funko Pop.
& I’ve got The Callisto Protocol Collectors Edition coming in a couple days!!!

Playing on current gen systems on my LG Oled C2 Evo...... My God! It is game changing beyond belief.

Johnny, this Black Friday I went full on Happy Console Gamer recommendations: Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Stikers and Dragon Quest XI S! It will be my first time playing any of these games, and I am hyped! I'm sure my mind will be 🤯
I picked up some games you’ve mentioned in previous videos, I grabbed Gears of War 5 for $11, Grabbed Spider Man Miles Morales, Returnal,on PS5 each were half off, and finally got some Nintendo Switch games got TMNT Collection , TMNT Shredders Revenge, Shin Megami Tensei V, Pokemon Legends Arceus, and Castlevania: Anniversary Collection. Yea pretty much done myself for a while.
I’ve been watching for years, and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of hearing you talk about Phantasy Star!

I went crazy on Black Friday. My favorite find was about a week ago, though. A Super Mario Bros game watch at the flea market. It cost me about 40 bucks, but I love it!
I used to hold the tape recorder and tape music on casette. To wait a year and a half for the vinyl soundtrack is a very long time. One of the slowest companies out there. The other organization that takes forever is the dept of labor. It also takes about a year and a half.
Recently picked up Sonic Frontiers a few days ago. Didn't play it much because I've been spending time with family for Thanksgiving but I like it so far
An elaborate special edition with a steel book that only has a digital code is wild to me...

My thoughts are with her family, what a legend. You have some great pickups! My favorite recent pickup is the Japanese game Gantz on PS2. Excited to play it as I'm a massive fan of the manga and movies.
Interestingly, Skyrim was only 16 years after Kings Field 2.
Almost the same amount of time has passed between when King's Field 2 came out, to Skyrim; as it has from Skyrim till now.

If it was a $5 entrance fee it was probably the Jantzen Beach location (Right under the bridge into Portland Oregon from Vancouver Washington)
The one that lived the longest was the one in Beaverton next to the Beaverton Mall and the Westgate Theater (All are gone now)
There was a three story one next to Washington Square Mall across the street (highway) from Malibu Grand Prix

When I buy music as a physical copy it’s always vinyl. I grew up with vinyl and it’s still the best way to listen to music!

As a Dark Souls fan I remembered I had a copy of Kings Field 2 (It's actually King's Field 3 because the first game wasn't released in the west), and I recently played through it. Aside from it being a much slower game I had a lot of fun with this one, although I needed to use a guide. I highly recommend the King's Field series if you like Dark Souls.
Over the last week, I picked up Persona 5 Royal, Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Mania, TMNT Cowabunga Collection, Metroid Dread, No Man's Sky, and Digimon Survive, all for the Switch. I have no self-control this time of year 😩
I took advantage of GameStop’s Black Friday B2G1 PS4 games. So my new game stuff is: Fist of the North Star, Tokyo Xanadu EX, and Persona 5 Strikers.
The arcade in Oregon was probably Wunderland.

You've got quite a collection of gaming vinyl. I just use an m classic on my Sony hd tv and that seems to work for me. Latest games for me are Stray, Pokemon Scarlet, and I also got a 8bitdo arcade stick for my switch for arcade style games
I bought Tactics Ogre Reborn for the Switch and it so nostalgic no other word to describe the feeling i guess 😅

Thats so sad to hear. A few years ago I listened to a Retronauts podcast (episope 154 if anyone is interested) with her in it. When i looked her up i was surprised to see how young she still was... She was so young doing Phantasy Star. I really love the amount of creation her and the team would pull out of limited machines they had back then. In a way i really felt like thats how you get more soul into a game. These artists put such care into every segment of the game they would work on. She will be missed. R.i.p. madam.
I picked up chrono trigger on the DS as my last retro gaming collecting for this year.
I pick up the most games around this time of year. This is the stuff I picked up, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 torna, A hat in time, biomutant, Disgaea 6, Immortals fenix rising, control ultimate edition, lost judgement, samurai warriors 5, star ocean the devine force, sackboy a big adventure, family fued.
1:06 wait didn't she also work on Skies of Arcadia??? Never got into Phantasy Star but my favorite game of all time is Skies of Arcadia, and I heard the Phantasy Star people made it.

I’ve been busy and picked up brilliant diamond for the switch and mario sunshine and pikmin for the GameCube as I try to re pick up the games of my past
Snagged the platinum trophy on God of War Ragnarok. I finally received my Deathsmiles I and II and Wild Guns Reloaded Collectors editions from Strictly Limited. It took almost 12-13 months for those to get here unfortunately. Last thing, my signed Diablo III got back from WATA. I’m not a fan of graded/slabbed games but this needed to be protected. Happy holidays to you and your family.
I got Ragnarok & the GoW controller cause I been only using the one it came with. I also got the GoW blue & white 2TB external harddrive. Finally I can stop having to delete games in order to play games on my PS5.
Tactics Ogre was definitely a good choice to set some time aside for.
I picked up Shining The Holy Ark on Sega Saturn in the last few days. In the fortnight prior I got Toki on Atari Lynx (sealed) and Valfaris (oldschool Contra style) for PS4.

I just picked up Pocky and Rocky Reshrined, Shovel Knight, Bayonetta 1 and Resident Evil 25th Anniversary jigsaw puzzle. Bought a couple Sims 4 expansion packs for my kids also. Oh! And TMNT Cowabunga Collection!

I know exactly what you mean when you say video game artwork of the 80's and 90's feels a little amateurish. Yet it's still so good! And now in 2022 these games have an incredible charm that really sets them apart.
Vampire Survivors has been my go to game this week. Very addicting. Other than that God of War but I have not been having much fun with it.
My last game pickups was alien isolation for switch digitally and a copy of elden ring for ps4.Both games were on sale for black friday so i snagged them.
20, 30 years from now, i want to be an old man watching Jonny talk about the latest games and reminiscing about the old games and consoles.

Picked up God of War. Then I impulse bought Plague Tale Requiem on Black Friday. Though the thing I was most stoked about recently was getting my physical copy of Into the Breach a few weeks ago.

I recall my thoughts on the early TurboGrafx-16 box & card art was silly compared to the Genesis/MD then I seen the PC Engine box & card art and i was like what the heck?! as it it was so much better than TG16
Hey, vinyl gives you that nice big artwork, and it gives you some of the highest quality audio for music. Don't let anybody trash vinyl.
