It would be cool if you could do an analysis of the evolution of federer's entire game (serve, forehand, backhand, positioning) before his return in the AO
@@KaruesellHQ I read that Jannik Sinner's coach asked him to learn by reviewing the footage of big 3's evolution of their techniques and skills over the decades If the federer evolution video goes well, you can do it for Nadal and Djokovic!
Agree with everything except the forehand. I'd go with the 2005 forehand as the backswing was slightly larger that year than in 06, which allows more power and stroke smoothness. Other than that you're right on the money 👍
I wouldn't mix pre and post-2014 Federer since he used different racquets. 90 PS Serve : 2007 ROS : 2006 Net game : 2003 Forehand : 2004 Backhand : 2007 Physique ( + Footwork ) : 2006 A strong baseliner who, with his timing and quickness, loves to dictate play with his powerful and precise forehand ( but he can also play well at the net albeit he doesn't go there so often ). On the backhand side his topspin is steady but he loves to play a sharp slice in order to disrupt his opponents' rythm. He has a strong serve ( very good power and good placement ) and a very good return of serve. His passing shots are excellent, too. On the court he moves excellently due to his quickness and coordination. Besides, he has excellent stamina. Flaws ? He's not punishing when hitting topspin backhands on heavy-spin shots and sometimes he can be pretty stubborn tactically. 97 PS Serve : 2015 Return of serve : 2017 Net game : 2014 Forehand : 2017 Backhand : 2017 Physique : 2014 A very agressive baseliner who hits with a lot of anticipation off both sides ( only Agassi and the best Djokovic are better in this regard ) and goes to the net when he has the chance to. In doing so he puts a lot of pressure on his opponents, rushing them. Sometimes he still uses the slice to change the pace but not as much as he used to with the 90. His serve isn't very fast ( not slow either ) but being excellently placed and disguised it is very hard to return. Good return of serve and passing shots. Physically he's still a very good athlete. Flaws ? By playing very close to the baseline he takes a lot of risks. Besides, when facing strong baseliners who hit long, powerful shots he doesn't have that extra gear on the forehand that he could produce with the 90. Finally, due to being over 30, he could suffer long matches at high intensity. Who wins ?
I agree but at the same time he was as close to peRFct in every aspect in that 2019 Wimbledon final…perhaps just a little more ‘06/‘07 confidence in the big points. Amazing how he continued to improve.
@@KaruesellHQ Yeah I would probably agree with that! I feel like his volleying in 2007 and 08 Wimbledon finals was excellent. Can't speak for average level for the year though!
like Connors and Sampras, he stayed with the old tried and true sticks too long. he would have had a great backhand a lot sooner if he wasn't so reluctant to change racquets.
Omg 2006 agains Agassi in us open by far the best forehand ever played in this world Insane back then he had that Smooth drive in the forehand but now it looks a bit eadgy
It’s taking time to build Fed 3.0. He will have the backhand of 2.0, the experience of 3.0. The forehand and playfulness of 1.0 may be gone, but the serve and experience will still do damage. Even If he teases us with a couple run-ups it will be ok. I still believe he could win Wimbledon. He almost had Joker in ‘19. It was a 50/50 proposition, someone had to win. Next time it may be his turn.
do you also suggest that his forehand changed because of the racket change? that a smaller headsize allowed him to hit more freely due to less power level?
@@KaruesellHQ oh on the serve from trophy position, I have trouble getting that nice racket drop and when I try to consciously make it happen I usually hit the back of my head trying to do it in the serving motion Racket drop, racket on edge, knocking the birthday hat off head etc
There was an audacity to prime fed that opened a lot of eyes to where the ball could be hit in a given situation. I wonder how that would play against seasoned fed's court vision.
@@KaruesellHQ It has always intrigued me how he was so good at reading the direction of the incoming ball at the net. Do you have any thoughts on that? Is that based on his natural ability to anticipate or reading his opponent's body movement, or doing his homework on his opponents by looking at stats?
You forgot the most important aspect : Mindset. Federer had his best mindset from 2004 - 2007. After consecutive RG thrashings by Rafa, 2008 Wimbledon loss and 2009 AO defeat at the hands of Nadal, Federer was never the same player, lost his confidence and champion mindset he used to have till 2007. This is the most important aspect of the game as this was his biggest weakness against Rafa and later Novak. I genuinely believe if Federer had strong mindset he would've had like 25+ Slams. His game and natural talent is superior to Nadal and far ahead of Djokovic but his weak mindset stopped him from achieving his true potential. He has choked on so many grand slam finals and Semi finals it's not even funny.
If 20 GS’s is choking, maybe the others should learn how to choke. Fed 2.0 passed the lefty topspin to the backhand with flying colors. Old dog, new tricks. Fed 3.0 is coming. 2017 wasn’t so bad, after all. Look at the bright side, nobody has the 40,slams he could have won, not even Rafa.
Was wondering your thoughts on Novak 😂 I know fed is your god but would love to hear u talk about the other god where the older they are the better they perform , where aging is everyone’s issue but how you see his evolution just like Roger’s 2017 backhand ? Cheers K
Over the years player should improve in power of his shots but why feds forehand and backhand is not powerful as before shown by you before , is it age and stamina or technique change from flat to spin with power.
06 forehand was on a different planet
ok?
Ok?
ok?
2005-2006 ... He was playing against top 5 and they would look like juniors against him
So much so that the US commentators all called it Federer's funhouse
Because TOP5 WAS A JOKE THAT TIME.
2017 BH...mesmerizing!
100% spot on. Sad to see RF’s forehand now. 2012 was also a really good year for just about everything.
True gentleman of tennis -- I wish more men in the spotlight had his aura --has elevated the game for making the physicality so effortless.

His decline on the forehand side, dipping the elbow straight away, imho is what cost him to win slams over the last couple of years.
Where can I read more about this? I was trying to copy the fundamentals in the actual federers forehand, but you discouraged me
The half loop forehand he transitioned to. Made it easier to time balls but lost some potency.
