    To any Taiwanese people who disagree with the video; you are entitled to your opinion, and I am not in any way trying to portray the Taiwanese in a bad light. I merely don't agree with the tactics the Taiwanese media has used against CJay, I hope you understand and don't take any jokes in the video too serious! Have a great day.

      I can see where the arguments arise from and altho I personally do not know the whole story, I do believe there are lessons to be learnt from both sides.
      Taiwanese people may have taken CJ's behavior out of proportion. However, that's not to say what CJ did in Taiwan can be justified because there are things you just don't do in certain places for your own image's sake.
      For example, if you are a woman traveling in middle east countries, and your wear revealing clothes in public like how you are back in the states, how would the local people think of you?
      Going to a foreign place without acknowledging its own culture, (such as sticking chopsticks on a soil and think its funny) may not be defined as being racist, but rather stupid.
      Sure, CJ's punishment may not seem to fit his crime, but it's the ignorant attitude he showed at the first place that got him where he is at now. I think he should hold himself responsible for everything he did. He is a grown man.
      BTW, if this channel really takes CJ's innocence seriously and wants to make the argument seem more righteous, the ending of the video wouldn't be about mocking the asian stereotypes.

      Excuse me but you must have gotten the wrong comment section. This is RUclips, you're not supposed to make educated well written and thought out comments.
      On a serious note, I agree with you. Whilst it is not appropriate to retaliate in this manner, I personally think I would also be pissed at that kind of behaviour, but then again I think I am not anymore of age to understand live streaming.
      This does seem like a watered-down version of Jake Paul.
      And I would find it very hard to believe that there hasn't been any form of retaliation from his fans' side. Everyone is a dick on the internet.

      Mr. Clymate
      Fame? That's obviously not what he cares about, he streams because he loves taiwan and its people. Just saying he should just be on his best behavior is an easy thing to say because you're not in his shoes. And he doesn't want to make trouble, you can see from his interactions that he's very polite to those he speaks to even if they're harassing him, he doesn't single anyone out and listens to their reasons yet they don't give a minute for him to defend himself.

How many times have traveled between Zhonghe district, old/new Beitou, new/old Taipei city, the riverside parks, and seen people litter, leaving cigarette butts, food wrappers, etc. trash in the streets, even in the parks? I've been going back home constantly for my entire life to see my family and have always seen people litter on the streets, whether it be as small as a cig butt or up to a drink cup.Too many times man. How many storefronts have I walked by and smelled the gutters nearby with nasty shit draining and trash in it? Too many times. He seriously got ostracized for a cup? Are the citizens really doing the "holier-than-thou" thing because he's a foreigner? Fuck dude.

    • @shaunonsite
      @shaunonsite 6 лет назад +4

      tyler Not all are shitty. You gotta know where to work at. I used to work for one then moved to two better paying schools. These days, if you have a skill you can do work online and make as much, if not more, than a teacher. Thing is, you gotta put in work.

    • @xstoofpeer
      @xstoofpeer 6 лет назад +2

      But it's still a part-time job that won't really go anywhere. It's like a lease for your stay in south korea. I bet you can also just work in the states or in europe at an entry level job with chance to advance.
      You are essentially taking a pause in your whole life, what do you gain when you come back home? You will be exactly at the same spot you were from where you left.
      The only reason I can think of to do that, is if you're feeling a bit down in the country you're in, and want to seek some new confidence in Asia.

      So... your saying a foreigner can just up and avoid social tenants core to a society, not research ahead of the time, and refuse to assimilate to cultural standards? Don't we accuse Mexicans for not assimilating to the English language rapidly enough which creates distress when they gain service positions or interact with American citizens when attempting to say get a resume or trade goods? I agree that the doxxing and harassment are horrible retaliations. But assuming western cultural standards are THE SAME as eastern cultural standards and acting as such, is pretty arrogant. I think people should do their best to respect their host nation. Crazy thought, maybe research ahead of time what social interactions would be considered too crass for public viewing audiences. I would if I were an Indian traveling to Texas let's say.

    What's funny to me is that they make a huge deal out of CJ poking a stick into the ground and throwing a fish ball into a bush, meanwhile if you actually watch his streams you can see trash in the streets and dog shit always on footpaths. It's disturbing the way some of the Taiwanese netizens have handled themselves online because a foreigner has 'disrespected their culture'.
    In nearly every one of CJ's streams he always runs into nice locals who are willing to chat with him, he takes us to different locations and we get to see different temples, see him try different cuisine and he shows us how nice Taiwanese people are. The netizens do a disservice to their country and put people off visiting there.
    It's bizarre how any of this insignificant shit makes it into mainstream news there.
    Great video, Glink.

      How do I say it honestly == as someone who truly lived in taiwan for a long time and understands a bunch about it's culture...
      1. Logan Paul effect: Japan has very damn deep ties with Taiwan(15-30% are decendants of japanese, like two cheeks of the same butt) Guess who got national news when that happened... Taiwan has a tabloid based news center since there isn't much happening nationally on the island, so you have a magnifying glass effect.
      2. Taiwan's history with (bad) tourist: a lot of absolute stuck up rich Assholes are famed with killing a native by drunk driving, sexual assaulting a native, then abusing the UN/China/Taiwan debacle to escape from punishment. For an example there was recently also a perverted(Canadian) tourist who sexually assaulted two women recently, who was a repeated offender of 3 instances...
      3: family values: To say that Taiwanese women are EZ... that's like saying your Mother/Sister/grandmother/great grandmother is a slut and can be thrown aside like tissue paper. Note that many of these people are descendant of people & women who had to survive the horrors of ww2 & civil war and back. So imagine how easy it is to upset everyone, especially when a said youtuber encourages foriegners to go to taiwan for said reason...
      4.He is literally at their doorstep... Almost every Taiwanese is has at least one relative in all the major cities since it's so compact.
      5: culture: there is a very old cultural center in the Taiwanese populace that takes deep offence to few things: chopsticks stuck pointing upwards(symbolizes death/cursing someone), never let anyone work on the fourth floor(4 rhymes with death/bad omens), lastly do not desecrate/insult/bother the dead(now relate that to number 1 & 3).

    Hey I just found this video through your OWL video, very informative video, I like it a lot. I am from Taiwan, even though I've never heard of this news before, it happened when I was on vacation so maybe I missed it. This is actually ridiculous, sure he did do stuff like throwing litter and stuff, but it's not really a great deal. Taiwanese people do it , alot actually that's why some parts of Taiwan are quiet messy just like America and Europe. And the EZ thing is just stupid, yeah I know not a lot of Taiwanese people watch English streams, so they might not know about the memes and stuff, but to take all off these shit completely out of context, it really makes me sad. I know the media is crap just like every other country (look at OWL), but the way my people reacted is actually so embarrasing. Nothing typed in twitch chat should be taken seriously, people say whatever they want because it's the internet, they think they are safe from others. I've seen some Taiwanese chats say some fucked up shit that would definitely piss people from other countries off. This happens because of the language barrier and the cultural differences, and the media would always do whatever to get views, I really don't get why people take them seriously anymore, I personally watch them for shits and giggles.TBF tho if the countries have reversed, the western media would probably have done the same, and the people there might end up calling us racist. But in this case the fault is definitely on us, and I'm really sorry that my people did this. I don't know if cj streams anymore I'm going to try and reach out to him and tell him not all Taiwanese people are peices of shits. And I hope he can still find the beauty in our country. EZ Clap

    wow I remember watching this on the news when it happened. I didn't pay much attention to it until similar stories were popping up on the taiwanese version of reddit, making the same accusations and recounting almost every little thing he did in his streaming career. As an english speaker whose somewhat familiar with streaming culture I can see now that these accusations are completely out of context, but for locals who mostly don't speak english it's hard to discern especially when the news reports misinterpret (not sure if intentional or just can't comprehend) while providing fabricated source and evidence.
    but tbh cjay was a scapegoat for a greater underlying animosity that most taiwanese have toward foreign males, mostly due to a rather intense fascination that a large number of taiwanese girls have toward foreigners, which I found also occurs in other asian countries but at a lesser degree. This is truly sad to watch and I hope things work out for him, taiwanese are generally really friendly and if reports like this gets out things can really change for the better for him and the twisted foreign hating culture.
    I don't follow many taiwanese youtubers but I know there are many that are fluent in english and do investigative reports. I'll try to reach out the best I can with this video. thanks for the great interview and report!

    as an Taiwanese who followed the whole CJ drama from start to now, you do realize this is basically an whole culture's majority at its display, blind patriotism in Taiwan is rampant, and news media already cross the red line on when to "stop" to a point of no return, and CJayRide is just plays a little part of this cultural issue, and you have to also acknowledge that *Majority* of population here are either at [Not capable of read/speak english] to [All out dislikes the value in western world].
    Which will cause more insane amount of communicating problem between Western world and Taiwan. and the moral value from western world will probably never be accept nor taken seriously in Taiwan. and the Local opinion will always be consider the first in the future as usual.
    That's a really serious Cultural difference, and it wont changes it over night nor in years, nor in century.
    Also you get most of the information wrong in video so, lets wait for shitstorm comes.

    Hey Glink,
    As a Singaporean subscriber, I think I can offer some form of explanation, being exposed to Chinese culture and Western media channels my whole life. I'm born Chinese, but speak both English and Mandarin from a young age.
    Littering instances: Places like Japan, Taiwan and Singapore take public cleanliness very seriously. Japanese people keep trash in their own bag until they find a bin and second-time littering offenders in Singapore have to do public cleaning for a few hours. Seeing him flagrantly toss the fish ball in the bush and stick the foodstick in the soil irked me. It was quite disrespectful and I understand this might sound crazy to you, but hey, different country = different culture right?
    CJayRide's first apology: I think it is safe to say that his apology did not seem sincere, especially after comparing it to his most recent apology. This may have worsened things. However, I applaud and appreciate his action of actively picking up litter later on. I think that deserved him forgiveness, at the very least.
    Bella (and Asian girls with white men): First of all, Bella is a two-faced bitch that just victimized herself. Aside from her, I do hear some Asian women complain about Asian men and how they prefer white males. I admit, white males are generally better looking, have better physiques/height and are more eloquent, which might cause a inferiority complex amongst Asian men. I think this is definitely one of the main causes for the "brigading" but by no means a justifiable one. Just want to give you some background/explanation.
    Taiwanese news portals and hate groups: Like many tabloids and fake news articles, they will spread any form of vitriol for views and clicks. Likewise for the hate groups, we can all agree the Internet is really a double-edged sword and groups like /r/fatpeoplehate find so much ease to grow. I think fake news, xenophobia and hate groups are being experienced in a lot of developed countries, with Taiwan being one of them.
    My opinion of CJayRide: Honestly, his disrespect for public cleanliness and not-so-sincere first apology really got him on the wrong foot with me, so I won't be watching his content. However, I genuinely feel sorry for the guy who moved halfway across the globe to embrace another country's culture and people, only for the same (albeit bigger group) to hate on him with much misinformation. Really unlucky.
    My thoughts on this video: I feel like you might be downplaying his blatant littering actions in the first part of his video. Rest of the video, you approached it in your reliably factual fashion. However, your "China Number One!" skit at the end rubbed me the wrong way. It felt quite racist and uncalled for. It doesn't help the case for white people being respectful/not racist. I really hope you won't do something similar in the future. I'm still a subscriber and look forward to more of your content in the future.

      @GlinkBetweenWorlds  6 лет назад +14

      Bryan Xie thank you for taking the time to respond and write out your detailed thoughts.
      I don't have too much to add, but I do think, as you said the littering thing was made up for with the apology and charity streams.
      As far as the ending joke goes, sorry if it was offense. I enjoy racial humor and this didn't seem to be crossing a line that most comedians would get backlash for. I was stereotyping Chinese people, but I myself find it funny when people do the same for my culture, infact I joke about it myself all the time. I know my humor (or lack thereof) wont always bode well with everyone, but that's not a goal I think is attainable if you want to put yourself and your style out there. I will take what you said into account though.

    Yeah, that's what I learned from SerpentZA's/Winston's videos about China in general. People there can be cool, but it's not difficult for mob mentality to occur, especially with "us vs. the outsiders". Even he, purely making informative videos about a foreigner's living China without sugarcoating anything, had some people go after him for supposedly hating the country.

      well lets just say ignorance is bliss. i hope he can just look through the hates and continue doing his things because once these hates sparked by some nationalism shits its really hard to put down. i dont know none of these people on the video. but i have a lot of experiences with chinese and taiwanese(they're the same people ethnically and mentally). so i can only imagine they're doing it to cjayride is purely based on the we vs them(white men) mentally that sparked by that tattooed taiwanese guy. they are very overly critical toward the foreigners, some of them just waiting there with their pitchforks, waiting for the foreigners fuckups and ready to attack. and that belle girl or whoever is pressured to stand on their side because the taiwanese media was painting her as this "white meat craving girl", so she had to stand with the taiwanese and tell lies that how cjayride was taking sexual advantages of her if she want to continuing living in taiwan without getting harass daily like cjayride does.

    I feel like asian countries in general are kinda weird about that shit though.
    In Japan I was using a vaporizer and was actually ~kindly~ pulled aside by the local authorities and handed a little tissue-pamphlet-map combo asking me to please not smoke on the streets. You can't even eat and walk without shame-glaring because you might litter their uh... Concrete.. And god forbid you jaywalk. Again, not nearly as aggressive, but the fear of the looks was more than enough. I understood that just as a guest there for a few days, if you live in a country that strict then you should really know better.
    Not to say any of the backlash then was warranted but c'mon bud... You knew you were doin a no-no.

    Here's the key things I got out of this video...
    1) First thing being that money truly does run everything, the media chose to push real hate towards an innocent man for the sake of views and monetary gain. That's why CJs twitch "friends" said nothing and chose to ignore it as they didn't want to lose their channels, to them their channel is more important than someone's life.
    2) People can switch on you like a dime when things turn south, bitch I mean Bella saw things were going south and chose to blatantly lie to avoid any further confrontation. Everyone was all buddy buddy at first and then turned into enemies.
    3) Never take anything for granted
    Side note, seeing this video made me genuinely upset with Taiwanese people. Even when looking through their perspective, they're still the evil ones. As they view CJ as some American nationalist who thinks their culture sucks and women are easy to get. Does that justify trying to murder him over allegations like that? I find it extremely hard to believe that they're more friendly there than people here in the US and they want to murder you and give you AIDS over that. To make matters worse is when CJ questions them on what bad things he's said and they have no answer to give, but say "I'm too busy". How busy are you that you can casually walk through a park and go out of YOUR way to confront someone else?
    Makes me very upset to see someone so wholesome done wrong by society for no other reason other than to have controversy for $$$...

      It also makes them no better than Mainland China in that regard, which is a huge deal for people that live in a democracy. Everyday the Chinese Communist Party comes up with a new scheme to take over the world and Taiwan is almost always the intended victim. If the Taiwanese people can be mislead by their media to pick on a foreigner who wanted to promote the country and committed the heinous crime of not picking up after himself and also doing something stupid, but relatively harmless at the end of the day, imagine what will happen if China manages to get those outlets to spew out pro-CCP propaganda. Goodbye Taiwan and goodbye living proof of the possibility of democracy for the Han Chinese.

    Shit as a Taiwanese American I can definitely agree with the overreactive media, gang-up hate mob culture (as do many Asian and other predominantly monoethnic countries), but it’s not hard to see that there’s also some inaccurate reporting from Glink’s side with mistranslation, misunderstanding culture (the chopstick in mud situation & Chinese internet slang, just to name a few).
    Now this is my first time on this story and I’m not on the IRL section of twitch much but overall, my impression just watching from this whole report on CJ is a shit ton of misunderstanding from both sides that kind of incited this situation.
    I’ve enjoyed glink’s content so far but let’s be honest here: nonpartisan reporting hardly ever exists. In my opinion glink could’ve used more sources (majority of his source was cj’s words) and perhaps a bit more of everything. It would be hard but that’s the standard we need.
    I guess the main point I learned from this is TLDR, it’s hard to say that there isn’t any kind of news reporting that doesn’t have bias to skew a viewer’s opinion on a subject matter, so it’s important to USE AS MANY RESOURCES TO CROSSCHECK YOUR FACTS AND DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
    Sorry for the long message on my perspective.

      No, over-reactive media and gang-up hate mob culture to this degree is not the norm in many other Asian or other mono-ethnic countries. This is a ridiculous aspect of Han Chinese culture. The fact that you can draw parallels between mainland China and Taiwan in regards to vicious foreigner witch hunts (or literally hunting down foreigners in mainland China) is sad and pathetic.

    As a half Taiwanese half German I would like to give my perspective to CJ’s whole situation and your report about it.
    Please note that I haven’t read more into this situation, so I’m basing all my opinions on your report alone.
    The littering incident:
    To be honest, I think the public outcry over CJ’s littering is justified. He isn’t just littering, he is broadcasting the act of littering to a big online audience while, in a sense, promoting tourism in Taiwan. With an audience like that he needs to think about his platform and himself as a role model. We live in an age where a tweet could get you fired, so a public reaction like that doesn’t surprise me, especially in the context of the taiwanese media, that likes to gossip and sensationalize things. I do think he responded very well to the situation, doing a charity stream where he picks up litter and donates the stream profits.
    The Spa incident:
    Here I agree that the taiwanese people promoting and participating in the hate speech and hate rallies against him acted intolerably and unjustified. It’s a total overreaction and unacceptable. I think some language misunderstandings also fueled the situation (you showed a clip of Ck watching a video where (I assume) CJ asks for support dealing with racist taiwanese people, Ck then asks, “is he insulting Taiwan?”. Also, it may be strange to western people, but in Chinese speaking countries, people like to abbreviate words with similar sounding numbers. So, while it may seem like a conspiracy and “codes” to you, it’s just common practice in Asia. Though I don’t know how the numbers for “CJ” and “idiot” were derived).
    Now to your report of the whole case:
    1. For the littering incident, I feel like your editing and way of portrayal shows a clear bias toward CJ and dismisses the bigger picture of him littering on stream. While I understand why it may seem like a small insignificant act to you, I think you undersold the situation.
    2. Just a bit that seemed unclear to me: In the segment about “EZ” and the pepe, it is unclear to me whether the twitch chat started using the EZ emote before Jakenbakes “easy” remark or if the emote was just a result of it. You seem to present it like it was the first case.
    3. Lastly my biggest criticism: About your “China no. one” remark at the end. Endorsing a state that is basically an international bully and doesn’t give a shit about human rights out of spite just because you hope to offend a specific group of taiwanese people is simply put: immature.
    (To clarify: I have nothing against chinese people, merely China's government and political stance.)

    • @Makaprimewe
      @Makaprimewe 6 лет назад +1

      G0hrx idk man, China might be an international bully but Taiwan is definitely showcasing how they can bully too by what they've done to CJ so far, with the death threats and all. China might be number one in terms of bullying, but Taiwan isn't far behind it seems, maybe number 4.

    • @G0hrx
      @G0hrx 6 лет назад

      d da I totally agree, the behavior concerning the second incident is unjust and wrong. But my criticism is that Glink drags China into the discussion for seemingly no other reason than to try and piss off a certain group of Taiwanese people. Which is in my opinion an unreasonable thing to do considering China's political stance. China wasn't a part of the discussion before he made his remark.
      Taiwanese independence is a matter that is important to me. If Glink were to make a video about the political situation of China and Taiwan and would show a different political opinion I would respect that. It's just the circumstances of his remark that makes it look petty. Maybe I'm overreacting here, but to me, anytime China and Taiwan come up in a discussion it always gets a political connotation.

      Some Taiwanese men don't like seeing Taiwanese women with white men, that concisely explains the backlash from the spa incident. I believe the 'EZ' controversy was just an excuse for some netizens to brigade against the evil foreigners that are taking their women away. It's why they've rallied around CK, the juicehead that totally isn't compensating for a bruised ego or inferiority complex. As for the littering, I agree with you entirely, it was quite disrespectful.
