Very smooth. I think he's done this before.

Solution, find a driver who wants to go faster. Seems like some drivers need 1/4 mile asphalt circle track, door to door driving experience so they will go ahead and pass those in front. If you let some slower driver in front dictate how you drive you will never get there. You've got to find a way to get around what's in front of you.

This driver needs to grow a pair. Seems as if he doesn’t have the bite to overtake cars clearly slower than his Mercedes. And why’s he short shifting all the time. Strange.

I think he pushes adequately as the car gets lighter from fuel load and tyres warm up.
At the same time it is impossible to perceive ALL the challenges he's having to put up with sitting at home and watching a simple video recording with minimal context. There maybe other dynamics at play, is the car really running at 100% in all mechanical areas? Has the driver been told to take it easy by the team to preserve the car? The list is actually endless.
Also you have to consider, that NLS at this point in time was largely and in some ways still is today, an amateur racing event. Not everyone has the experience or is trained to make moves like Rene Rast/Kevin Estre Pro level drivers. Today drivers of those calibres make it look easy, but fear and respect of this track is very wise and healthy.
