I'm 68. I actually had no idea about fretboard radius until youtube. I knew some felt and looked different. But that was it. Never thought I need a xx radius.
After years of playing classical guitars I realized the flatter the better when went back to electric a few years back. I mainly play a Fender some long name Tele with a set mahogany neck and a 15.75 fretboard. Go figure.
Lol so true. When I was married I played a mexi tele through a Roland cube 15 and that’s when she would let me. Got the big d and I don’t mean Dallas and now I have 3 tele’s , Suhr , fender 50’s original USA , Nash t52 , 3 deluxe’s , %13 , Boss katana , and ass loads of pedals. Do I need all that for the gigs I play ? Of course not. Marriage will thin your gear out immediately
Here's what I'll say about a 7.25 inch radius: it worked for Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Richards, Jeff Beck, George Harrison, etc. Still working fine for TVL, Mayer, etc. It's not nearly as big a deal as some people would have you believe. Sure, if your goal is to play Master of Puppets, probably not your best option but fine for everything other than speed shredding
agree totally! The difference isn't that big. At least not between 7.25 and 9.5. With a good setup most of what you'd want to play is with out problem. And if you want to play metal I guess that stratocaster isn't the first or best choice anyway...
There is nothing more ridiculous than the constant marketing about "re-voiced" pickups, especially the "re-voiced to be vintage correct" here. Like, "We told you that the last batch was vintage correct but we were actually full of crap. Now we really mean it. Until the next re-branding exercise, when they will be re-voiced again and we promise we'll get it right then."
Regarding the Jazzmaster/Jaguar, it's important to note that that rhythm circuit is neck-pickup only and owes most of its darkness to the high-value pots (though I believe the tone capacitor is also different). The roller is absolutely still around (Buzz Stop) though a far simpler solution that's more tuning-stability friendly is to shim the neck and raise the bridge and/or use higher-gauge strings, particularly on the Jag.
@@ryanandring2688He’s dead on. Shim the neck, set of 11s on a Jazzmaster, dab of locktite if you got the vintage bridge and you got a killer guitar for minimal price on top. Buzz stops are crap imo

Chappers was the shred n ready demo guy! He is an awesome modern rock guitarist!!! I also enjoy that you are elevating and expanding Lee's vision of his own potential!!! Hope you enjoy your special dat whenever it happens Mine is the 21st of this month!!!!
Good to see another 70s strat coming! I love my Vintera 70s Strats (I have 2, Sienna sunburst and Aged natural) so much! Fender ended Vintera 70s strats years ago, some said it's because of expensive Ash body, now Vintera 2 70s strats have alder body. Makes sense.
Oh boy, I so love these long videos where they present a whole new series! That said, I literally just bought a used american original 60s strat yesterday so seeing this video today I was a bit worried the vintera II might've come with a 60s strat I really liked and that is cheaper. I'm lowkey glad I didn't get too excited about most stuff :') The rosewood being back is amazing though, I might get one still if they get released in colors I better in the future!
Rosewood is back!! my gosh that’s so great to see!! However, I assume it’s going to be a major selling point for this line and they will not be bringing it back down to the Player Series. I personally don’t mind Pau Ferro so I’m not too heartbroken about that possibility but I’m glad to see it’s back on at least one iteration of the Mexican made guitars!! No Fiesta Red or Candy Apple though 😢😢😢😢
The pau ferro board on my 2021 white Vintera 60s modified is darker and more uniform than the rosewood boards on the two American Pro strats I compared it to in my LGS. It even has a good feel. Two years later I don’t regret getting it rather than the US one, tho I did have to dress the fret ends and roll the edge. Now it just feels like an old friend. I try out Am Pro ii’s in the shop now and again, and see no reason to “upgrade” to one of them. Yes, pau ferro is definitely hit or miss, but rosewood is too, for that matter. Maybe one day I will check out a Custom Shop…. That friggin’ Ocean turquoise is calling to me however!
I wish they kept the 6 screw bridge instead of the two point trem. I’ve never got on with those for some reason and for some reason I can hear a difference in my head as well. But that and the 6 saddle tele’s drove me off. I miss the old Mexican standards.
I swear you guys are responsible for me buying 4 of these after looking into this line for almost a month. For the price of just one fancier guitar I got 4 amazing guitars.
Been window-shopping Vinteras for about two months now, figuring out what my Christmas present to myself will be this year, and this line came at the perfect time. It changes a ton of things that I would’ve preferred in the first place. I was torn between 50s and 60s Teles, thinking I wish there was a neck size between the two, thinking I wish the fiesta red came in 60s because I was leaning towards 60s, thinking I definitely want to avoid the modified series because the extra electronics and all (I love the series/parallel switch but I wish it wasn’t a 4 way switch with the top NOT being the neck pickup, that irked me forever), and finally, thinking I wish oh I wish these had rosewood fretboards. Gosh darn it I’m happy
I've played all an original 1957 Strat it had a Full V Neck 7.25" Radius Fingerboard, these have a Soft V Neck! I loved the full V Neck and 7.25" radius and the Pick ups were incredible! The same guy also owned an all Original 1960 Strat as well! My Custom Strat has a Warmoth Soft V Neck and Alder Body and Lindley Fralin Blues Pickups!
"The mid position is the most underrated position". YES. I'm no big strat guy, but I bought one (because I 1. needed the glassy tone on some stuff and 2. because I wanted the trem.) So I have no experience with strats. But in the studio I immediately dubbed the distorted guitars with a track in the mid position. And it sounds AMAZING. So, yes, thumbs up to the mid pup.
I have a thin line Tele and I mostly play neck/bridge together for the depth of its tone. Adjusting pickup height adjusts the volume equally or make one or the other more prominent. The Gibson adjustment without separate volume controls per pickup. Heavy strings or lite. It's Fun to explore tone.
Love mine! Got it last week before this roll out. It has a real old vibe to it. The workmanship seems to be impeccable and I’ve noticed it’s pretty loud acoustically which is indicative of the real vintage guitars.
I have two Vintera II guitars -- a 50s stratocaster and a 60s stratocaster. Love the v-shape neck on the 50s strat. I'm fine with the 7.25" radius as well. No issues playing up and down the necks.
I am 62 g and of that 53 g I play guitar. My first real guitar was an Ibanez LP custom with DiMarzio humbacks. It was a great guitar of the lawsuit era. After that, I changed many guitars, but I didn't find one like it anymore. Now I have a Japan made Black Beauty from the 70s, 335, and many more.
I've seen vids/pics of Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Buddy Guy, Buddy Holly, John Frusciante, John Mayer, Albert Lee, Brian May, Hank Marvin, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Stevie Ray Vaughn....the list goes on with 50's Strat owners. My strat is the pre-Vintera 'Classic Players' 50's strat in 2 tone sunburst MIM. It's the perfect platform for doing your own thing to it and making it better than something 3 times the price. I absolutely love mine and it's interesting to see that a few iterations later and they haven't really changed much. All my strats are 7.25 inch radius and tbh hasn't really held me back from playing fast or tapping up and down the neck. Each to their own I guess.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Johnson have 12" radius, and you need to understand that these guys have had their fretboard leveled many many times by their guitar tech, so the real radius are much flatter than 7.25".
Wasn't sure which oneI was digging, but after watching this video I think I'm gonna get a black 50's Vintera II strat. That amber gloss maple V neck is sooo sweet. I've been playing for 36 years and I have always wanted a neck like that, but could never afford a real vintage or super expensive American vintage model. I can afford this one and I'm getting excited to play it already.
Main I’ve noticed on these guitars…Fender seems to have nailed the period correct tone on these. That’s pretty cool if you think about it at this price point..
That Jazzmaster sounds like heaven - like most Jazzmasters. I'd love to add one to my collection, make it my 4th. But I don't like the colours (and money's tight at the moment). Add some overdrive, push it into a Marshall. Mmmmm. Jazzmasters can't be beat, man!
I loooveee a lacquered fingerboard... If you haven't played one before it's an eye opener on how much your fingers drag on the bare wood. (Unless you have a nice smooth piece of ebony, love my ebony! Glad they poly the fretboard on all of the maple!
That LPB 60s Strat is already in my hands! It’s just a matter of time! Thru say the universe provides if you act like you have something you desire! The rosewood board on it looks pretty horrible with lighter streaks. I’d have to have it more consistent and dark.
Unintended side effect - this video sold me more on that "The Dane" pedal Pete was showing off than the guitars. My god that thing sounds incredible - the perfect classic rock sound on both pickups.
I'm happiest with 7.25" radius on Fenders. They're very comfortable fo me. Less wiggle room on set ups, but that's okay. These seem like noce guitars. Not a huge fan of poly finishes usually, but I'd check these out, particularly the 60's Strat
I was in the shop picking up my Plekked acoustic today - I will have to impose a ban on visiting for a while! These are insane value for money and really are nipping at the heels of the US models. The pickups are so well voiced. Back in the 70s we had maple or rosewood, trem or not and that was it! By the late 70s (like my 78) at least helf were hardtail.
Wish they'd have one Jag without tortoise shell pickguard; also noticed the price increase over the prior Vintera Jags, which are on sale. Nice to see maple boards, Vintera II Jags are '70s spec, the prior Vintera Jags are '60s spec. I have a Vintera Jag in ocean turquoise and replaced the pickguard with a white one.
Regarding fretting out on bends with the 7.25 radius-the string won't bump into the higher part of the arch because the string will ride up on the that part of the arch on the fret you are bending at. So effectively the action should remain the same throughout the whole bend
Was most excited about the Mustang - those look amazing so cool they brought back the most famous iterations of those in the competition burgundy (turqoise) and orange. totally agree that the Jazzmaster is the top of the range (for me) as Pete so masterfully shows Jazzmasters are about so much more than Jangle - they bring such richness and body to whatever you throw at them - love the Jag too but my eyes can't handle the black blocks on a maple board (meaning I literally can't focus when playing) The whole line looks amazing thought - other standouts are that absolutely gorgeous LPB 60s Strat and the Deluxe tele
I have the first version vintera tele deluxe road worn in Daphne blue/maple. Amazing guitar, amazing color. The tremelo on the new one is a little weird.
I'm PRETTY sure Springsteen's guitar is an extremely modified telecaster body with an Esquire neck. It was stock off the line, but someone took it, hollowed out a bunch of wood under the pickguard, and installed some sort of crazy four-pickup, quad-output system so you could record four guitar tracks at the same time for some reason. Somewhere along the way, all that was pulled out and it was rewired with a new neck pickup to be a "standard" telecaster, but it was especially light because so much wood had been removed.
The return to Rosewood is great, however that’s at the “cost” of no more Nitro, 7 1/4 radius vs 9 1/2 on the modified Ventura’s and the higher cost. I actually think picking up a Maple neck version of any of the Ventura 1’s right now on clearance sale is 💯 the better way to go if you act fast! If you really want the Rosewood/ 60’s models, than just suck it up and buy the American Vintage II’s or find used American Originals which have the 9 1/2 radius necks (that’s what I recently did, I was actually able to even locate and buy a new old stock / still “new” 60’s American Original Strat in Lake Placid Blue with Rosewood Neck for under $1,800 new with G&G hard-case including shipping and taxes)!!
Yay!!! For me, rosewood was never gone. I bought all my guitars years ago and avoided the shortcut manufacturing BS done by all these guitar companies. The only ones I have are Gretsch guitars that have some form of walnut fretboards.
Lee and Pete, you can totally get the rosewood fret board on the sunburst or the vintage white Strat……. You just have to buy all three, lol Cheers good vid
7.25 radius is real comfortable , cbs got fender in'66 and they brought the big headstock in from '8 if not befors. the 3bolt neck happened in around 72-73 . so the early cbs ones are the best i reckon. the ones before the 3 bolt neck came in. in '79 they came out with the silver anniversary which had a 4 bolt neck .geat guitars! in 1980 they produced"the strar" which had a 4 bolt neck gold hardware and alot of different pick up options really great guitars! then in '81 the so called dan smith era 4 bolt came out which was very cool after that they wenr a bit strange then the factory moved and they started doing the usa standard and some vintage reissues
Pete Townsend used a 57 strat, Dave Gilmour had a 50's strat with serial number #0001. Other players... Ron Wood, John Frusciante, Keith Richards, Billy Gibbons, Albert Lee, SRV, George Harrison, Jeff Beck and possibly Jimmy Page.
I have the Vintera 1 modified strat in two tone sunburst. They've bought out the mk2 of sunburst 50s ( 4:00 ) which in my opinion isn't as good as the first one. the MK1 has a S1 switch and a c shaped neck. The mk2 is more true to the original guitars which I get but id strongly prefer an s1 switch on the MK1 over a period correct neck on the MK2. I honestly don't even notice the neck shape on guitars and don't think it even affects my playing. Just some of my thoughts. Really good video boys
It would be a real shame if the Vintera modified series was discontinued!!! The precursor to it, the Classic Player series (I have a CP tele and strat both 60s that are awesome), and then the Vintera Modified had the perfect combination of vintage and modern specs, especially on the Telecasters! Plus many actually had custom shop pickups. The Vintera II seems very similar to the Vintera I but costs more, as much as the Vintera modified used to cost, but doesn't have the additional specs of the modified
Vintage II and Vintera II are about a grand apart. So in the case of the 60s Strat, if you are not fussed about the case or the nitro, a set of vintage 61s and a boutique wiring harness could get you very close for at least £700 less.
It would get you close ish from a practical point of view but you don't buy the U.S. vintage reissue just for the practicalities is my 2 cents. I've got the Vintera 70s, great guitar worth every penny, also have the 61 Vintage ii ...it's the 'standard' pre CBS strat I always wanted, without the price tag.
Hello, I really enjoy your videos and this one just popped up on my You Tube this morning. I heard you say you couldn't think of anyone who plays a Thinline Tele. You should check out Tab Benoit. He has been playing a 1972 Thinline Tele with humbuckers for over 30 years. No pedals, just straight into an amp. He puts on an incredible show with just a three piece band.
I’ve grown to like the vintage radius best. I have the same 60’s tele. Pickups are decent. But I couldn’t help it I never can. I put Lollars in it and it’s a great guitar. Thinking about switching to brass saddles. I had an AVRI 62 I think it was that sounded good stock but putting brass on it gave it more balls and faster attack it seemed.

and made in Mexico- I prefer the American made
I guess they figured out that Mexican made Fenders without rosewood are no different than Squiers.

The rosewood board on it looks pretty horrible with lighter streaks. I’d have to have it more consistent and dark.
Monica Valli played the Jazzmaster Vintera II 50s and I really liked the tones. I might get one one day.
Bruce Springsteen's Tele is actually a partscaster built from an esquire neck and a telecaster body
My parts caster telecaster is a customer shop body and American standard neck with pure vintage pickups. $4000 guitar for $1500-ish several years ago
Underrated channel. I share your love of offsets and love these videos. You're playing is phenomenal. Who are your influences?
Unintended side effect - this video sold me more on that "The Dane" pedal Pete was showing off than the guitars. My god that thing sounds incredible - the perfect classic rock sound on both pickups.
I'm happiest with 7.25" radius on Fenders. They're very comfortable fo me. Less wiggle room on set ups, but that's okay. These seem like noce guitars. Not a huge fan of poly finishes usually, but I'd check these out, particularly the 60's Strat
The color of that mustang is amazing! Reminds me of Koyukis from Mongolian Chop Squad
Yeah another BECK fan. I got very excited when I saw them!
I love my Vinteras: 2 Mustang basses and a 60's Strat. For me, the most exicting line of Fender.
I absolutely love how terrible the Cap’s solo was at the beginning and the fact he knew it. Had me in stitches 😂.These videos are instant classics.
Yet when Jeff Beck played like that, it was genius!😂
Little bit of a rough landing 😂
I have the 60s Vintera love it.
Just checking out the tube for the first time today and there's a new Andertons vid. Perfect.
Hear that? That’s Fender knocking it out the park again 😄
Yeah, I'll have to hit these up on the used market. It's hard to say no to v shaped and baseball 7.25 necks even if I already have them.
In regards to Lee's comment at 41:20, the great blues guitarist Tab Benoit is known for playing a thinline tele.
Ritchie Valens and his 50s Strat! ❤
They all sounded good but the 50s Nocaster sounded incredible!
Regarding fretting out on bends with the 7.25 radius-the string won't bump into the higher part of the arch because the string will ride up on the that part of the arch on the fret you are bending at. So effectively the action should remain the same throughout the whole bend
those look great...waiting for a 70s deluxe thinline telee and the 'modified' part of the range
Been waiting for the Bass VI!
CHURCH OF STRYMONTOLOGY is the best thing ive heard all day
great demoing - a crash course in fender guitars - thanks so much
Was most excited about the Mustang - those look amazing so cool they brought back the most famous iterations of those in the competition burgundy (turqoise) and orange. totally agree that the Jazzmaster is the top of the range (for me) as Pete so masterfully shows Jazzmasters are about so much more than Jangle - they bring such richness and body to whatever you throw at them - love the Jag too but my eyes can't handle the black blocks on a maple board (meaning I literally can't focus when playing)
The whole line looks amazing thought - other standouts are that absolutely gorgeous LPB 60s Strat and the Deluxe tele
I have the first version vintera tele deluxe road worn in Daphne blue/maple. Amazing guitar, amazing color. The tremelo on the new one is a little weird.
*Great Googga-moogga!!!!* A Jag with a blonde board... i need a mop and a drool bucket immediately!!!!!
Tim Farris from INXS main guitar was a Tele thinline. Also two humbuckers on an alder body sound different because the pickups are different.
That jazzmaster sounds absolutely beautiful.
I love how Pete's gushing about the Tele
So is that a hint Pete...vintera 2 road worn are to come in soon as well?
Allparts Buzz Stop Roller for Jaguar/Jazzmaster, BP-0653-010 about $20.00 Keeps strings in place.
Great show!! I love listening to Pete play. Is there a style/genre that Pete can't play? I doubt there is.
8:45-9:02 LOVE that Fender twang!
the jazzmaster is stunning 😍
7.25” radius rosewood boards are my happy place. Especially where there’s nitro.
Yay!!! For me, rosewood was never gone. I bought all my guitars years ago and avoided the shortcut manufacturing BS done by all these guitar companies. The only ones I have are Gretsch guitars that have some form of walnut fretboards.
this lineup is so underrated imo. especially if you want vintage specs on that mcdonald's budget
Exceptional playing by the Cap'n during the intro
Lee and Pete, you can totally get the rosewood fret board on the sunburst or the vintage white Strat……. You just have to buy all three, lol
Cheers good vid
The slab rosewood is the key for me. I’ll be saving
Edward Woodward was the actor in the original equaliser British television show when I was a kid
Greedflation slowly bumps up the prices release after release.
I agreed. Was thinking of buying a mexican guitar with PV 57, 59, 61 or 65s in it but... To be fair, these stock vintera pups seem good by themselves.
I’m really impressed with the specs
I bought the vintera 2 butterscotch beautiful guitar.
Great vid. That Jazzmaster is too cool.
Came for the Mustangs... gutted you spent 5 seconds on it!
We need to get Dan to run these telecasters up against Red and see if these Vintera II's actually sound as good as I think they do.
Love that '70s Strat
Pete, I'm over 60 and still have a adolescent mind
Great thin-line tele player and criminally underrated player: Curtis Mayfield.
Absolutely. One of my biggest inspirations and heroes ❤ Also both guitarists from Sly and the Family Stone played thinlines
I dunno there is something about a 70's strat that give me a tingle in certain places.
That outro was awesome!
