wonderful! a riding habit that has its own saddlebags!😂
The jacket is so striking. I wonder if the styling of the outfit in the portrait was meant to be a bit provocative. Something about the blend of masculine and feminine styles reminded me of those old pinup pictures of Marlene Dietrich in a top hat and tuxedo.
Beautiful riding habit. I am intrigued by Alan the horse and his love affair with the white cow.
unrequitted love, alas. the cow ignored him thorughout
Nothing scandalous hidden away in those pockets this time, I see. Lol. So where is Lucus' riding habit? Surely a lady of such prestigiousness such as your self would have a dashing rouge to accompany her on her rides.
Very regal. Don't forget the apple, carrot and sugar cubes for your horse
I appreciated the attempt at a piaffe!! 😂 You don't seem to be 100% comfortable with a double bridle? I'm guessing you only do it for costumes if you're a jumper. Actually I don't know the history of double bridles etc, I'll have to do some reading. I love all your historical recreations and inspired costumes. I love seeing them being used for what they were originally made. I have a history degree, but I'm not a particularly good sewer. Your videos give me a glimpse into the past.
Don’t like them. 95% of riding I do is Single rein, in one hand- and I don’t do if for costumes, i have been riding a lot sidesaddle, modern style/ jumping, crossing the country. Not a dressage or schooling person, not interested in showing or competitions either.
Also where do you get your fabric from?
When did you get interested in Victorian and medieval and how long did it take to learn how? I would love to learn but I don't have time to right now I've had a baby not to long ago.
See the origins video and the FAQ!
Tip for your wonky shoulder: when putting on a jacket, always start with the wonky shoulder/arm first, then the good one. I have the same problem and had to change my usual way of dressing.
Which Graffin Sophie is it, btw?
Stunning love the way the jacket falls when your seated on the horse.
That red coat is just beautiful! The interior lacing keeping strain off of the buttons is a great idea.
That Arne Koets cameo was a surprise!!
we have been friends for many years and last year spent a few days there filming and shooting horsesy stuff for my newest book there
YIKES - I would certainly not tend to wear that colour to go out riding! Though silk is tougher than most give it credit for. That is a lovely garment.
Fascinating. A highly informative travel into former times
I keep thinking of modern fashionable leggings, which aren't useful for a workout at all. The riding habit is a lot prettier though, IMO.
Absolutely love the video! Been a follower for a really long time and your video quality and setup has improved so much over the years! Very hard to hear you in most videos. Maybe invest in wearing a microphone. All your research and information is so great and I love to learn about the history but just can't hear it. Besides that awesome video as always. Much love!
Just put the caps on. I film in historical buildings- microphone won’t help
Maybe you could narrate it later? Hard to listen to 😮
I’m sorry but it was kinda hard to hear you at certain times
That is why I pay for the caps
Bravo Madame, one of my favorites so far. Thank you !
Did this get re-uploaded? I was sure I watched it the other day.
yes, i realised it wasn't sunday!
I wondered that too. I’m glad I’m not going crazy😄
I enjoy your videos very much.
Is your frozen shoulder getting better? I have difficulty with certain clothing too!! I'm grateful that I can pull on a shirt and a pair of breeches for my rides. I'd be exhausted after getting all of the clothing on, too tired to ride.
Yes! Thank you! since then i had a procedure, manipulation under anaesthetic, and this helped a lot
Lovely! I've pre-ordered your equestrian sewing book. 🥰
Will you ever used hair powder in your next 18th century dress up videos?
I used it in my previous ones. And will use in the future once y hair grows to a length a it is just a few inches long under that wig.
Can you powder your natural hair instead of a wig pleace!
Yeah
I was so curious about your next Video ❤
Wunderschön❤
Amazing!
Hair powder needs to return.
We've got dry shampoo now, which basically plays the same role. It was meant to absorb oils in the hair, which isn't an issue now that we wash our hair regularly unlike them back then.
What is the eh, houscoat, dressing gown? You’re wearing at the beginning?
Robe de chambre- a dressing gown
I loved the video ❤
Bring back those lovely shoes! I haven't seen anything like that in the shops.
Both pairs featured are from American Duchess! They do historical reproduction shoes of many styles and eras!
@@ellaisplotting unfortunately their recent products hardly last a few wears, from what I’ve read.
In some of the books I've read it's talked about going riding in the park in town more to be "Seen" and to socialize. Not sure if that is a historical thing or not. Would this type of outfit been appropriate for something like that since no real riding was being done?
That was more of the Victorian thing

absolutely gorgeous!!!
👏👏👏👏👏
THANK YOU 👋
Why did people without access to a washing machine, or dry cleaners wear so many specialty clothes that were light colored? How did they keep their clothes clean?
The chemise was made for this purpose, as well as for hygiene. It caught all of your bodily oils and sweat, keeping the outer garments clean, and would be washed every day. Outer garments were akin more to our modern coats and jackets, and would only be cleaned when absolutely necessary as the fabrics used often prevented proper washing.
Edit: Gowns and petticoats would also have bands around the hem meant to collect dirt, which would be removed and washed.
Super 😊
Beautiful
Lovely as always! Love you Isabella
Do you sew these outfits? And were you (and did the women back then) riding side saddle, or cowboy style?
Yes. And watch to the end to find out….
@@priorattire I did watch to the end and thought you were likely riding side saddle, but wasn't completely sure. That's why I asked.
Women back then did both, with it varying by location. In the French court, ladies rode astride, and wore breeches under their riding habits to prevent chafing.
👍👍😀These outfits are cool. Only wearing the corset probably wasn't very comfortable.
Stays- and corset are extremely comfortable when fitted correctly. You must be new here…
I absolutely love your videos!
This one was a bit hard to understand because there was an echo while you were dressing.
There are closed captions available if you’re struggling to understand with the echo of the room.
@@Loki-and-Thor Thank you! I forgot all about closed captions!
@@macdaiddavidson8051 I hope you get to enjoy the video a little more with them on.
It's a mock riding gown. "I'll go riding...later."

Спасибо))) очень интересно. С приветом из России 🎉
My, you've gone a bit grey... These videos are the opposite of the "unboxing videos"... A beautiful outfit! Alas, you have few opportunities to showcase it.
not really - i can wear it on the horse, or on the ground - and already wore it a few times for work
First!
