I've never heard of fan lacing, but it's genius and extraordinary.
I saw her tighten it and just whispered "sorcery...."
Yes, I am a fan!! (see what I did there?)... I just wish it would have come along 100 to 150 years earlier!
The first time a saw that kind of stays was on gentleman Jack's intro.
Same, and yes, brilliant
of course your cat has gloves and spats like a proper gentlekitty
Very dapper
That day was perfect for showing the point you made earlier in the video about not requiring a hatpin to hold the hat in place. Despite the wind blowing the veil about like a medieval banner on a pike, that hat remained securely on your head.
Fascinating presentation. The elegant, sporty silhouette of the "amazone" reminds me a lot of Anne Lister's costumes in Gentleman Jack -- you can see how she tried to strike a compromise between men's clothes and the most outdoorsy, practical look available to wealthy ladies.
The fan lacing was so satisfying to watch. Definitely going to have to try it if I ever get round to making stays
I am a dressage rider and history enthusiast. This was just WONDERFUL. Not only can you create these beautiful historic clothes, you can ride too! :)
Greetings to Merlin! And that is one well mannered horse! Mine would do the horse eating dragon dance with the veil alone.
"I can't see, my boobs are in the way." Things that were relatable in 1830s and are still relatable in 2020s. Good to know some things never change!
Oh my gosh, I love the idea of a fan-lace corset. I haven't seen it before! Also, lovely Merlin cameo
So agree👍🏻. Had heard of them but never seen fan-lacing in "action" 👌🏻😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I had no idea that was a faux backdrop until now!
Bernadette Banner said in one of her videos (I think it's one of the recreating-history-as-a-modern-thing ones) that the historical garments looks a bit weird until the hair and the whole silhouette is in place, and this video makes it SO OBVIOUS.
Objectively speaking the 1830's hair is a bit.. odd and comical. The undergarments aren't very flattering. The enormous sleeves are.. a look. The carvat over the shirt without the habit jacket just serves to cut off the vertical lines and makes the wearer look more short and squat. But then the jacket and the hat comes on and BOOM! Historical beauty, gorgeous lines, perfectly balanced silhouette! 😍
couldn't agree more
Fan lacing is so satisfying
A fan lace corset idea would be great for those looking for an everyday back support item. Thanks for sharing.🐴
That corset actually looks super comfortable
Most are! They're like wearing a big hug, toasty, warm and secure.
Loved that shade of blue. I have no reason to make a habit of any era, no horse to go with it, but this video makes me want one anyways. I just recently received your book The Victorian Dressmaker as a gift and am looking forward to trying some of the patterns.
It’s amazing to me that petticoats, corsets/stays, and chemises were around for centuries and then in an instant they were gone… and within the last century ladies under garments have changed so rapidly and drastically
"Security" is a double-edged sword, because "staying on the saddle more securely" can actually backfire if your horse bolts or stumbles and you are stuck to it ... instead of being thrown off. A few broken bones might be preferable to being crushed under a horse.
and that's where the safety stirrups and skirts come into the play later on.
Always love Merlin's cameos!
That hat is just *chef's kiss*
I immediately clicked 😂
Me tooooo
And me
That wind was certainly a good test of your hat's security. It didn't move 😁
the fan laced stays are brilliant. :)
Thank you so much for the heads up on that book! I just purchased 2 horses already trained to side saddle and am starting on my habit. Can’t wait.
Looks so cozy. I love the flow of the rich blue fabric, and how the collar supports the neck.
Yay Merlin! And wow, that fan lacing is brilliant!
I hope you enjoyed your ride. Enjoyed watching. The riding ensemble is lovely!! Glad to see you are well. Best wishes the coming months find us all doing the same. Love from Ky,USA.
Hello Karen. How are you doing?
You made me laugh when you tried to tie the cravat. Thanks for sharing Izabela, the habit is beautiful
Wow, I have never been aware of fan lace stays. Love them, and they make so much (progressive for the time) sense. Thanks for the info and the overall video. Super informative!
Totally in love with Merlin, oh and the dress too
Never been this early before, I love these so much, these gowns r gorgeous
Need a long green veil now! Beautiful! ❤
Always a pleasure to see your videos and Merlin
I will love to wear that as casual wear just that and all the layers
Izabela is all woman. Absolutely captivating. A modern Helen of Troy.
Yippee! So happy to see your post
I'm looking up the lacing. I'm loving the idea of the simple yet very pretty way it can be done on one's own. I really enjoy all of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing with us. You're a great teacher!
So beautiful! I've always been fascinated by historical clothing, and your channel is exactly what I've been looking for!
Absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing
This is amazing!!❤
"And also you can use it (the cravat) as a tourniquet in case something...happens" 🤣
Fascinating! I love the detail of the pocket/pull-through for walking convenience! :D
I see in the comments lots people are very much interested in this and asking many questions hahaha. Thanks for educating us!!
I absolutely love your videos, I have learned a lot about historical clothing.
Watching you put on all those layers always reminds me of how my favorite periods of fashion history/ dressing styles are the less complicated ones lol ( Saxon, early Medieval, very early 1800's...)
I find myself contorting my body trying to help you get into the corset! 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ I get very involved 😂😂😂
Very enjoyable and good presentation of history.
I've never tried fan lacing, although have seen it in pictures. How interesting!
You look absolutely lovely on the horse. Love this video!
A windy day! At least it shows the billowing folds of wool to advantage 😉
I have not seen the busk ties in action yet, only stills. That is so neat how that works.
I've ridden my whole life and it's only now that I have a desire to ride aside!!!! I want a fancy costume!!
The gown was gorgeous!
Your an amazing couple an I so very enjoy anything you do!!! Thanks for the lessons
Just imagine allowed to play dress up with her vast wardrobes. 😋
Oh, I've thought about that alright. lol
This riding outfit is just beautiful
Beautiful costume! And I love your Gothic Revival set.
Such a beautiful teal. That looks beautiful in the sunlight
That was awesome! I love this channel amd can't wait for the side saddle video. I ride dressage and getting into endurance, so seeing history on anything to do with horses is loads of fun. (Also, if I tried that riding outfit on my horse, he would send me flying, lol.)
She also has an older video that shows her riding sidesaddle and shows her saddle! It's called "dressing up an 1885 amazonne" :)
.. until the Ladys been dressed for riding it starts raining.. 😂.. love your videos.. 🥰
Of course you can ride side saddle 🤩 amazing!!
I actually said "Oooooh" when i saw you uploaded new video :D
So beautiful! Love your videos
Good job pulling the corset on!!!! ☺️
This equestrian look is so so beautiful!!!
I love that style of video and your outfits
This is so gorgeous!
"I can't see, my boobs are in the way." The funniest moment of a wonderfully enjoyable video.
And totally true. As a historical costumer with boobies myself, this can be quite an obstacle while dressing. XD
I feel her pain. I well endowed myself and sometimes you have to move them out of the way
@@lisawillis8227 I liked it when in some of her previous videos, she used the phrase "asset adjustment". For someone who isn't a native English speaker I think that she does a brilliant, and very witty commentary.
So relatable, lol
As a G cups I relate to her cringe....
Lovely riding habit!❤ oh, you are a braver soul than I would be on a side saddle.
I ADORE your videos. Somehow they often coincide with heroines I’m trying to envision. Fun. Thank you!
Brava! Brava!
Fascinating, informative (all the side bits of facts you share), and beautiful work.
I wonder if there were designers in your line of work around in the 19th century who reproduced and were enamored by their predecessors and focused on "reproductions of extant garments" from the 17th century.
If RUclips had been around in the 19th century, maybe they would be doing vids like this for them!
The problem was the accessibility of information. How much information do you think the designers of the 19th century had about the costumes of the previous centuries (compared to us)?
After seeing the fan lacing , I'm thinking about converting my corset so I can actually put it on by myself. I currently need someone to adjust the laces after I have it on
I JUST realized that the pretty window in the background of the videos is not real and... wow
I need a fan laced corset, so I can get into it by myself!
Either that or one with a split busk. Either option makes putting on a corset much faster.
Stunning.
Love this 💗
I usually put my skirts on like trousers, yes a couple layers of skirt at a time, I find it easiest to start with the most outer layer working towards the most inner layer of skirt with the exception of any leggings or something like it
Caray no se trata de vestirse es todo un conocimiento de la materia en historia de la prenda a utilizar felicidades por sus buenos videos
You look wonderful Dear !
I can't even think how you balance only on one side of horse, also i appericate your work❤️
The saddle construction helps. See the 1885 amazone video I explain in detail there
I love history and period clothing I don't a suit of the period but it would be nice to dress like a gentleman of the early 19th century and I love watching your videos when your dressing in the period you have a spark of joy and passion when your doing your shows and the fun this is why I watch your show you have a good personality as well your Husband too
Awesome hair!!!!
Look so good!!
Such a handsome kitty
I absolutely love your kitty cat! What is that around his neck? Secondly, is that a real picture window with that nice view or is it just a rendition of a view? That blouse is exquisite!
The window (and wall) is a backdrop. I thought it was real until she went to retrieve the skirt and I saw it flutter.
The painted Backdrop👌🏻 made me think of the hilarious🤣 British TV comedy/sketch series 'Acorn Antiques' by comedienne Victoria Wood...when it started to "move" with her walking out of the shot 👏🏻👏🏻😂 www.imdb.com/title/tt0224822/
I love the color
I adore your videos, and your cat is very, very cute.
The cat is gorgeous.😍😍😍😍😍
Wonderful video
БРАВО! БРАВО! С благодарностью к Вам!
Thank you 👍🌹🌹❤️
Lovely! I will check out the corset video. Love the buttons on your jacket. May I ask where you get glazed cotton? I can't find any the way it used to be (I have an old 1880s bodice).
eBay
Merlin! ❤️❤️❤️
18:12 I actually tried searching for that book on the internet but I regret to inform you that I have not found the book listed anywhere
it is rare...
That a very calm horse , he can see the dress blowing in the wind
Lovely I Watch you from Brazil,,
Very beautiful, but I don't know how anyone could be comfortable in all that. Looks like the clothes weigh as much as the horse. You are certainly a good rider. This was a very enjoyable video!🐎 ❤
So beautiful!
💜💜
It’s absolutely beautiful, and amazing, as I am terrified of riding horses! Does anyone know what style of shoes those boots are called?
It reminds me somewhat of the outfits Effie Trinkett erars!
