@@NintendoComplete Just curious. I remember watching that first video. I'm aware you do updates in HD to a number of these games. I remember first seeing this game on Nick Arcade and wanted to play for myself. The Wii Virtual Console granted my wish. Fun, quirky game
One of the best SNES games/series. This is an absolute gem. They really need to officially translate and release the others on the SNES. Those are good too.
It's amazing how when you go back to see the games that marked you in your childhood, they last 2 hours at most, when in their time they gave months of entertainment.
I'm much more focused on getting through games now. When I was a kid I could stare at the background and other small minutia for hours. Imagine what was behind that solid wall? The background was drawn well, what if we could keep going further? Now I hardly entertain those imagination
My aunt gave me this game for my birthday. It was so much fun and a bit frustrating playing this as a kid. Thank you for uploading this playthrough and reminding me of the good ol' days!
When you're at the amusement park, you can play the lottery mini-game with a turbo controller, and you'll win more often than you'll lose. My buddy and I did this with a turbo-controller and a stapler (as a weight to hold down the button), and let the game go for hours. I'm sure it would be even faster with an emulator, because you can easily adjust the gameplay speed. Practically unlimited gold means that you can use throwables instead of your regular weapon. It's not a huge advantage, but it felt like we "got-one-over" on the world.... _and it felt _*_awesome._*
As a person who loves Japanese culture, I love this game, because it looks authentic Japanese settings. Mystical Ninja, Turtles in Time, and Donkey Kong Country were some of my favorite SNES games.
I was never blessed to experience the Goemon series. I always heard of this classic. Simple, fun sidescrolling action, reminds me of River City Ransom, in a way. Plus, Konami's American branch did an amazing job with the box art during this era, with Super Castlevania IV and TMNT Turtles in Time having epic cover illustrations. This one was pretty on-point as well.
I remember discovering this game around 12 or 13 years old and just being astonished. It was like a feast for any gamer, the different genres, mini games, games-within-games...and on top of that, it was just a really good beat em up/platformer with incredible music, lots of fun sprites and items and just lots of love all around. This is honestly the gold standard in gaming for me.
As someone who always liked this game's style but was never very good at playing it, i really appreciate this video. Good job, seriously. You played the hell out of this game and even provided passwords
The sound design in this game hit so hard. Every action felt like something. I couldn't remember the name of this game, and hardly what it looked like, but I recognized the sounds right away.
i love how Goemon almost always looks pissed off or looks like has a no fucks to give in this game. he probably should have foreseen that his chubby friend would piss in his cereal.
Hello NC. Just wanna say that I first found your channel a few years ago simply because this game was featured in front being curious about the Gambare Goemon series at the time. Been following and watching your other content since then and always appreciate all the uploads you make. Anyways, appreciate the reupload and keep up the good work
I spent hours upon hours of my youth in that Carnival level, notably farming money at the game show when I could answer every question after seeing only 2-3 words.
most undderated game of all time to the point where it didn't sell that well and we missed out on the sequels. you can get them english translated today which is nice. Mystical Ninja holds a close place in my heart. Definitely the co-op experience you want on the super NES for sure, but even solo it's a fun time with funky japanese look and feel, musically breath taking. A true gem.
Some notes about "gambling" here: The game houses charge 100/gambling game, but two can pay off handsomely per go: Lottery: Choose one of four animals, and a letter from A to D. You will get 50 back automatically, but if you correctly predict Letter and Number in the second Lottery, the prize is 200. Predict the correct combination of animal, letter and Number, you get 1000 back. So you either lose 50, win 150 (just first & second Lottery), win 950 (just third & first Lottery) or win 1150 (win all three). Since you can play this again and again before leaving, you can get loads of coins before calling it quits. Concentration: There are eight pairs of cards on the board. Each pair is 20 at the end, with "Omitsu" if you have her pair worth 200. So that's 360 there if you get all the cards. At the game end, you can double your cash if you get the card the game randomly chooses, so you could walk away with 720 for net profit of 620. If you have good memory you can play again and again.
I always found it comical how a smoke pipe was goemons weapon, and how they crawled on the ground when you go 2D. So unique for its era--like, who thinks of stuff like that?
Was my favorite game on the snes. Especially with the Game Genie. Without the game genie you were NOT getting through this difficult game. I didnt find out until after a couple of playthoughs that buying multiple shoes made you walk faster. Had no idea as a kid this was a japanese theme game, just really enjoyed the sprite work and colors lol. Running into the pretty geishas and the cool store music😅
Neat game, too bad the others weren't localized officially (only via fan-translations), especially 2 and 4. There were loads of Goemon games, but only a few found their way overseas. This is a fun platformer, no doubt about it.
^^^ This. Thanks to incredible fan translations, we now live in a golden age where it's starting not to matter what was or wasn't localized originally. You can now play every snes Goemon game in English, including the first one in its originally-intended beauty.
I think the biggest no-no for international releases of the other games, was a very specific Manji symbol, and how it looked... For most Japanese people, they don't see any problem with it. But for all of America, it is a racist emblem that resembles that of the 4th Ryke.
@@LegoSonic-p2f I think they probably would've just censored them and kept the rest, like in Bionic Commando or other games like that. They probably thought they weren't worth localizing, because the sales were low for the ones that got localized; from what I've read, only the very first Goemon game was a big commercial hit. Maybe they also thought they were "too Japanese" or something. It's all just speculation at this point though, of course.
@@b01tact10n i hated it with a passion back in the day. I legit would study it for 10 minutes going over it multiple times and still.... nope. Start over, homie 😂😂😂
Oh man. I was just listening to the OST and one song is called "Sexy Strip Show!" It just occurred to me I've never completed this game, and now I'm wondering... what part of the game is this?? Is there a time code in this video where it happens?
I don't think so, this is the US version. That show only happens in the Japanese version, it's not that huge or explicit but a very interesting discovery I had while playing the emulator. I don't even remember the random door I crossed to see that 😅😂 Im going to check my laptop, if you're lucky maybe I still have the clip and I could upload it.
This series is pretty much unknown outside of Japan and only 4 of them (5 in PAL regions) were released in the West, this one, Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori (known as Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon), Ganbare Goemon: Derodero Dōchū Obake Tenko Mori (known as Goemon's Great Adventure in the West), Ganbare Goemon: Kurofune Tō no Nazo (again known as “Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon) and the Game Boy Color rerelease of Ganbare Goemon: Sarawareta Ebisumaru! which was later rereleased in PAL regions as part Konami GB collection (and once again, it was called Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon). Despite that, the games were well received in the West.
