I don't know how this was recommended, but if you don't want your shoes to come undone, lace overtop, & finish in a loggers knot.

THIS is what I've been looking for! I kept having to double-knot my laces and getting them undone after was a friggin' nightmare. I watched a few guides on alternate knots that wouldn't come undone and they didn't work for me. Yours makes the most sense and it even looks nice when I'm done!
    Thank you!

Ian's secure knot but this is an easier way to tie it, without making the bunny ears first.

This knot is legit. I tested it on my runs and it never came off. Gotta have more test runs to see how strong this knot last!

When you're pulling the rabbit ears to tighten, you're allowed to use your thumbs to push that gap closed, and it will be a real tight knot then. For reference search for seamen's bow knot and in the results look for the LL Bean video on how to tie the knot for their moccasin slippers.

During today's 6+ hour hike my shoes actually stayed tied. Finally! Clear demo made it easy to learn. I saw the same knot in another video for tying men's dress shoes, but he didn't demonstrate as clearly. Is there a kind of shoe this is not a good knot for?

You called it a "square knot" but you didn't tie a square knot.
