Almost a whole year later I watched this vid again and I still learnt from it, and that's even though I've been sniping for a long time. It's just sometimes you need to hear it from someone else in order for it to click back in your head again.
I've seen you've improved so much ever since this video to the point you might be one of the best snipers in Destiny. I'm sure you have more tips to share with us all, very complicated ones I hope.
Thanks for making our wait for Destiny 12 minutes shorter. When you're trying to learn something new, it's helpful to deconstruct things into the most basic components, so I appreciate guides like these. Not much longer now.
Haha, even if I only accomplished making the wait shorter, that's good enough for me :P. But thanks man, good to hear that breaking down the simpler tips was a good way to go. 9/9 is coming... slowly, but surely.
Thank you for the tips, career battlefield sniper since battlefield bad company so i needed a little advice transitioning into destiny's "halo" system 2nd half of the video contained all i needed to know. Thanks for giving me the boost i needed!
The beta and the first couple months of destiny were some of the most fun playing fps. I came from playing a lot of COD and hardly any halo. Learning the different style was fun and getting good was gratifying. Miss those days . Now anyone like u said can pick up the Thorn and get kills. Weak.
Hey dude, just found your channel. Destiny is the first ever FPS that I've played, and while I dabbled in Crucible to level up my initial character, I was terrible to say the least. I have mostly focused on PVE up until now, but am getting bored with it, and have decided I want to improve my PVP game. I've gotten up to a 1.1 K/D, but it's great seeing videos like this to help me improve further. For me, they really help. Thanks!
I was so happy when you mentioned sweeping because sweeping is my primary way of sniping people! Man I really wish there was a way I could play you just to see how I'd measure up to someone as good as sniping as you!
I remember when I was first introduced to 'sweeping', it was in halo 2 with the battle rifle on swat. as you can image it was extremely effective with three shots to drag across their head space. Also, great video. Your videos are all my favorite destiny videos haha, I have this unsatisfiable thirst for great sniper game play and cant wait to see what you have when the full game comes out. And keep up the commentaries! XD
I actually thought about saying that exact thing. First time I could remember sweeping was in H2 with Team Snipers or Team Swat... can't remember which I played first haha. If you didn't sweep in Swat, you would get destroyed :P. Thanks man, I appreciate that :). Knowing someone prefers my Destiny videos over some of the bigger channels is awesome. I have quite a few gameplays still, some good sniping, just trying to decide what to do with them... so hopefully those can aid the never ending thirst haha. I myself am getting tired of waiting for 9/9. Thanks, it makes me so happy to hear some of you say the commentary isn't trash :).
Have to say I've seen sweeping before from my friend and I really like how you explained it. Really hard to get used to it but I've done a few kills like that. Now to get it on a regular basis such as yourself sounds really daunting lol. But great tutorial. Been playing since day one and this was fun to watch.
I loved the video bro. Thank you for posting this. I understand it is an older video, but even today it is very helpful, as sniping is not my strong point. Also, I love this is a true tips video. I have been on many "tips" videos that didn't mention any tips at all. You were right to the point and described all of the actual techniques. Awesome! I do hope you can come out with more.
RingWarrior15 No problem man, glad it's still able to help some after all this time :). I will come out with more... eventually haha. It's a bit tough to really cover everything I want to, so I want to make sure it's done well!
Not sure if tips/tricks videos is your thing, but you should definitely do more, with possible updates when it comes to new weapons and dlc etc. You do a pretty good job at explaining your methods when it comes to things like sniping, and the fact that you know what you're doing makes it all the better. Thanks for reading, and keep kicking ass!
Raddition McRadish I will try man, I wasn't very confident back when I made this video and I was surprised it was received so well... I'm still not that confident in making one, but I definitely want to because a few people have requested it. Reading comments like this definitely gives me a boost of confidence/motivation. Thanks for that, and will do!
Great video, pretty much what I needed. I've only played PVP FPS very, very casually and not very much. I love skill weapons like sniper but always get murdered by shotguns and prone to camp :( this has taught me a lot.
No problem man, I'm glad to help :). 9/9 needs to hurry haha. Really appreciate the sub! Saw you commented on my bloopers video too... glad you decided to take a look at some of my other stuff too :P.
Haha, thanks bud :P. I don't know how some of mine have gotten so much attention, but I'm thankful. Hopefully Destiny can really help new channels grow. I started a twitch now too just for Destiny haha.
thank you for explaining the drag scope thing. That is something I didnt know and I will be practicing on doing it more. I am in dire need of getting better at sniping for pvp. Thanks again
Thanks! I always hated the snipers in Destiny, but I tried to practice them lately and my skills with a sniper have gotten a lot better sense I watched this video.
Not a big fan of the snipers! But still, Good video! Very informative! You've got a bunch of awesome clips just from the Beta and Alpha I think! Keep it up dude!
Can't blame ya, it's not for everyone :P. Luckily, Destiny gives a lot of options. Thanks man, I actually have quite a few left over clips that I didn't get to use in my montage. I'm thinking about just uploading them in a clip compilation... no montage or anything, just the clips. Do you think that'd be good to do?
I really don't do 1st person shooter games much but the aiming stability of the snipers in destiny is great compared to other games, and thanks for the help :)
kjhovey, so much has changed since you created this video including your personal skill level. Can we get a refresher?? looking forward to your response.
Thanks a lot man :). Haha, my problem is I'm not consistent enough to really pull in a steady stream of people (darn college!). I appreciate the subs I do get though, makes me happy.
i just watched you and tripleWRECK destroy Mr. Fruit's dream team. i know they're not MLG but your scoping was impressive with that nlb. Question: i see you favor snipers with quicker rates of fire. what are some legendary snipers you can recommend?
Emma Chekwa Rules or no rules, it was an awesome play by Mr. Fruit :P. Don't blame him one bit for going for the Fist. As for sniper recommendations, I actually use the mid impact/mid fire rate type of snipers nowadays. My go to sniper is the Longbow Synthesis... but that's not really obtainable nowadays (it was from past DLC). In the current state of Destiny, I recommend Her Benevolence. The great thing about the mid impact/mid fire rate snipers is that they can one shot off the revive... which is a huge deal in the Trials.
yeah it was a sweet play. Anyway,i'm currently using a longbow synthesis and it seems to be working pretty well. but in your trials highlights video, i see you're using a last word which is good becuase then you have a long range and a short range combo for when you need to go in. any ideas for a primary that can sub for the last word?
since I upgraded to a ps4 from a ps3, my sniping skills have all but disappeared. I have to relearn how to snipe and I think this video will help, even if snipers have been nerfed since then. thanks for the tips, hovey, and I hope I get to see you in the crucible
hey man i just recently discovered who you are so as a man who is aspiring to be really good in Destiny in sniping i look up to you. :) do you think you can do a more updated sniping tips video? now that the meta is ridiculous i'd like to know how you deal with it. the tips i got from here are helping me out though so thanks so much!
Could you make a follow up vid,now that you played the game way more, it's been a year and all the changes? Maybe you have more "mlg" tips..? Prettyplease??! :) ;) love your vids!
thanks, this was really helpful. I got the icebreaker recently and I wanted to learn how to snipe well considering before my k/d was hovering around 0.8 while sniping.
I would add that for PvP, the short range scopes are your best bet for most situations. It's more forgiving at midrange when you scope in and the enemy isn't quite centered. It's also a much less dramatic shift between normal view and ADS. Long range scopes can briefly disorient you when you ADS.
dupersuper1000 Definitely agree, I meant to talk about that in the video... but I wasn't sure just how different the scopes could be back in the beta. Personally, I prefer the snappy, agile scope... like on Praedyth's Revenge. I'm just so used to it and I hit very close shots... though, I do believe there are shorter sights (like Patience and Time's custom optics).
Yeah, to be honest, I think Praedyth's Revenge is the best sniper for PvP, mostly because of its incredible stability and high fire rate. But I also like using snipers with low zoom scope and the reduced flinch perk. Sometimes, though, I'll go with a high impact sniper with the Final Round perk, empty the mag to one shot. OHKs FTW lol. If you get one of those with a low zoom scope, prepare to murder everything.
I'd like to add a small tip of my own: Keep the trigger down a bit when scoped and searching for a target. It might seem like an insignifigant thing but that's why Hairtrigger is an upgrade. The time it takes to pull the trigger is just long enough for a good sniper to get you first.
dbzsuperfan711 Nice tip man! I think it kind of depends on the player though. For me, I'm used to slamming on that trigger after the sweep from the Halo/Gears days, so I'm not sure if I'd be able to adjust to that haha.
Thank you so much for your snipping tip! they really have helped me become a better sniper and even player! Do you have any more tips now that more of the game has been released?
Awesome tips man. Definitely worthy of a sub. I know you said the sniping was more along the lines of Gears, but did you have any other suggestions about practicing a bit before Destiny came out? Like, will a Halo game mimic the aiming more than another type of game? Thanks again dude!
Thank man, appreciate it! That's a bit hard for me to answer because it reminds me of a lot of games in different ways haha. I pretty much only played Halo in the past year as far as shooters go, so that that definitely helps. The way the reticle moves feels very similar to Halo... so thumbstick movement is very similar. The big difference is the way you scope in, which is why it reminded me of Gears. Since sniping is usually a fast motion, the way you scope in makes a big difference. When it comes to a steadier aim though (like assault rifle or scout rifle), Halo skills shine through. However, the maps and movements felt like Shadowrun (the FPS). So yeah, it reminds me of a hybrid of those three :P. I'd say Halo is the best for overall practice though... adjusting the thumbstick is the most important for aiming after all. Sorry if I over explained, haha.
Haha no problem my man. Halo is what I've been practicing with anyway. It feels slightly similar to some of the aspects of Destiny, just different with the fact of being able to zoom with the Left Trigger. Excited for more of your videos and if you're on xbox let me know your GT!
Very informative. Thanks. Destiny is really the first fps where I've taken an effort to get better at sniping. I have a tendency to jerk my reticule when sniping. I stopped using a shotgun altogether.
Hey Kevin, In the house of wolves I got a Low - Grade Humility with Hidden hand and, Performance bonus with Ambush and Shortgaze. Even though it can't kill on revives do you recommend it in skirmish?
Catabolise ps4 Time Warner Cable 10 down/1 up is good? Not to mention I'm east coast in the US... away from servers. I'm sure there are several people with better connections :P. This was the beta too... not as many people were on back then.
yo Hovey, fan of yours bro. just curious, on sniping, what sensitivity are you using? Also if you ever roll shotgun instead, do you change/increase your sensitivity? I regularly play on 9 or ten for its utility on shotgun and try to stick with it for sniping but it serves difficult at times. thanks!
Hey hovey, I got a question about timing. When sweep scoping, what exactly is the timing for pulling the trigger? I'm finding as I sweep, I shoot either too early or too late and miss :-( I saw another video saying: "Depending on the distance, when you drag the scope you near enough pull the trigger at the same time as you start the sweep, the aim assist will guarantee the kill" - this hasn't worked for me.
Try to trigger when you're exactly on the enemys head, if that is to late try to time it so that it shoots right when you're aiming at the head. Takes a little time to find the right timing, but once you got it you'll basicly just look where the enemy is, swipe and shoot without even looking at the screen. You really get a feeling on when to shoot after a bit of practising, just isnt as easy to learn as using a shotgun or something.
last night I was using icebreaker and imago loop, I was playing skirmish. this guy activated his storm trance right behind me, I was caught off guard, so I just fired icebreaker randomly at him expecting to die.. I got the no scope :3 I'm not saying I'm some sniping God, because that wasn't skill, it was luck. the best part was that my whole team was watching so they saw it :3
Didnt know it was called sweeping! Ive been doing that for a while and didnt know what it was called. Great video, these tips can help with just sniping in general.
that would've helped before lol, But now I can sweep snipe quick scope if needed and no scope at appropriate times I've always been a sniper in any game from call of duty- halo- and other online 3rd person shooter games up until now, and Im curious on If I can beat you, maybe not, I've been able to pull off dirty snipes and quick body shot kills with primary then sniper as well as a few quick scope and no scope headshots at close range.
I was using the sniper in the beta for PvE because I was pretty bad in PvP with it. And also the scout rifles we're good enough for long range, so I switched to fusions because I couldn't find a good shotgun as well. But thanks for the tips definitely going to try them when the game is out. I love sniping in general but always couldn't get the hang of it.
No problem man, I hope they can help you out. Scout rifle is great though, I used it a lot as well. Not only did it have nice range, but the hip fire was extremely accurate for closer ranged fights. I really didn't get to use fusion rifles as much as I wanted to, but they were pretty fun. I never found a great shotgun either, but they don't really fit my playstyle so I didn't mind much.
Sweeping and drag scoping are the same thing , correct? Even though drag scoping is commonly referred to when quick scoping is in the mix. Still, relatively similar I presume?
Cadetdude Not really. Only time you could possibly abuse that is on the outskirts of big maps like First Light or Bastion. That could get frustrating, but more than likely, you'll start spotting him after the first time he does it... just gotta remember to keep an eye on the outskirts. On Bastion, I pretty much stick to B, so I don't even bother with the people who want to camp snipe. As for more CQC sniping... you can hear a person go camo from a mile away with some headphones on. You'll also know the direction they are coming from. It's not hard to see camo people after that point... in fact, I think it's a little easier to snipe camo people... for some reason.
I'm a seasoned fps sniper, but I'm having trouble getting down sniping in Destiny, the weird sensitivity acceleration fucks me up. I really enjoyed the gameplay though, I subbed and I'm looking forward to more videos in the future.
Kitty Aids Thanks a lot man! Have you played Halo? I know a lot of people struggle with Bungie's acceleration mechanics when coming from different (non-Bungie) games... especially if they come from PC gaming. You'll get used to it though, just gotta keep at it :).
Awesome vid mate, any tips on sniping in bastion? I find you get one group near A and the other near C sniping each other which just seems unproductive.
Hamish Glenister Tip 1... pray that you don't get Bastion :P. In all honesty, I hate Bastion and rarely play it because I prefer 3v3s. When I do play Bastion, I go to point B and I'll snipe when people across that little jump area (whether it be looking into B or looking over towards A), and I also snipe people when they are around that little hall area that connects B to A area. I'll poke out of B from time to time to try and hit people coming out of either spawn, but that map is so open... it just sucks :P. The way I snipe isn't really represented well in this video.. it's a bit of a beginners tool to help people who have never really gotten into sniping. I should honestly update this and make one that shows more of my playstyle.
Sweeping was actually massive in Halo 2, it pretty much started the term sweep sniping. Because hitscan. Halo 3, not so much, because it wasn't set up in that same way.
Almost a whole year later I watched this vid again and I still learnt from it, and that's even though I've been sniping for a long time. It's just sometimes you need to hear it from someone else in order for it to click back in your head again.

Haha, even if I only accomplished making the wait shorter, that's good enough for me :P. But thanks man, good to hear that breaking down the simpler tips was a good way to go. 9/9 is coming... slowly, but surely.

Ahh back when thorn didnt exist. The balanced times.
^^^^^
ReachCarter It's always interesting to think about how this game had a higher skill gap back in it's beta days (at least, IMO it did).

Yet again anither awesome video. That 3 piece at 11:10!
Awesome tips man, especially the sweep sniping. Something that came into play in the Halo 2 competitive scene especially.
Thanks! And yeah, Halo 2 was probably the first time I started sweeping. Is there really any other way to no scope than to sweep? Haha.
I loved the video bro. Thank you for posting this. I understand it is an older video, but even today it is very helpful, as sniping is not my strong point. Also, I love this is a true tips video. "He [the sniper] moves rocket shuttles."
*headshot*
"It's not going to work for him, though."
Lol nice timing on that.
Myke Nope I appreciate you noticing that :P. I'm not the most creative person, nor am I great at editing... but I tried lol.
The sweep shots is a must know in The Last of Us multiplayer for all sniper, that's why I was immediately good with the sniper on the first try.
Not sure if tips/tricks videos is your thing, but you should definitely do more, with possible updates when it comes to new weapons and dlc etc. You do a pretty good job at explaining your methods when it comes to things like sniping, and the fact that you know what you're doing makes it all the better. Nice talk at the end ^^ I liked the kills when you talked about sweeping! Well, you got good reflexes
Thanks man ^_^. I was hoping that, even if the tips didn't help, that the clips would at least be entertaining :P.
Thanks so much! im trying to get good at sniping for Destiny and this helped a lot! also got yourself a new sub :)

Chris Valencia right? Well technically it was a double if we're following the rules but it's Mr. Fruit Gaming Channel so we'll let it slide.

Thanks Hovey, I've been trying to get my sniper skills up for Trials, I need to practice my sweeping. Thanks again! :D
Thank you so much for your snipping tip! they really have helped me become a better sniper and even player! Do you have any more tips now that more of the game has been released?
"If the final game has custom games" only took 3 years but we got them
Owesome tips bro, I need to learn swipe sniping but will get there, hope I get to find you in PvP one day.
Thanks for sharing the skills and thought process. You ROCK!
No problem man, thanks for watching! Appreciate it.
thank you this is going to be really helpful when i start playing crucible particularly the not camping tip
ty, u da best, also u are my fave destiny player/youtuber
Not every shot was a headshot? Maybe you aren't a Robot. I'm still uncertain. Love all you do Hovey! -Enduser
What were some of those medals.? Like heating up,untouchable, the one that said "(your name) is on the hunt!"
ohoh thx,i just wanted to know what they meant:) are you on my fridge?:0
Played a match against you the other day, wish i hadn't. Great video man
I'm new to FPS games so this was great! Liked and subbed! :)
P1NK3Y14 I was hoping to help people like you! Thanks man, appreciate it =).
This is the only tutorial that helped me in sniping on destiny
If you are a Sunsinger, Angel of light gives some interesting tactics.
Thank you for the tutorial I try to follow most of these things already but this will really grow my game I think.
Nice sniper hover, is it a longbow or an LDR. I couldn't tell? :)
You one humble but epicly skilled dude.
Great video! Love sniping in destiny so much haha still need to get a lot better but hopefully on my way lol
man why are you so good at trials Makin everyone feel like crap :)
your connection is about 150X better then anyone else's in the world
Catabolise ps4 Time Warner Cable 10 down/1 up is good? Not to mention I'm east coast in the US... away from servers. I'm sure there are several people with better connections :P. This was the beta too... not as many people were on back then.
Wow im in aus 3 mb/s down 100kb/s up red bar every game and most of everyone in aus is the same
Catabolise ps4 That's not me having an amazing connection then, that's you having a shitty one :P... not to mention you live far away from servers.
I very much enjoy this video thanks man
yo Hovey, fan of yours bro. just curious, on sniping, what sensitivity are you using? Also if you ever roll shotgun instead, do you change/increase your sensitivity? I regularly play on 9 or ten for its utility on shotgun and try to stick with it for sniping but it serves difficult at times. thanks!
The King is explaining 😊
I got the no scope :3 I'm not saying I'm some sniping God, because that wasn't skill, it was luck. the best part was that my whole team was watching so they saw it :3
Haha, that's awesome man. Sometimes it's better to have luck on your side than just skill.
How to be a better sniper:
Step one: aquire any final round sniper
Step two:find match
Step three:empty mag untill one round
Step four:profit
Not anymore...
Thank GOD!!
+Deven Bottiaux LITC...
+Deven Bottiaux for real
Also Hovey you forgot that when you are sprinting a redicule for your weapon, this just helps all around
OMG LOOK AT ALL THE KINDER GURDIANS SO CUTE!!!!!!
Shh the God is speaking
Didnt know it was called sweeping! Ive been doing that for a while and didnt know what it was called. Great video, these tips can help with just sniping in general.
Some people call it "drag" sniping as well... I think "sweeping" sounds better though :P. Thanks man!
that would've helped before lol, But now I can sweep snipe quick scope if needed and no scope at appropriate times I've always been a sniper in any game from call of duty- halo- and other online 3rd person shooter games up until now, and Im curious on If I can beat you, maybe not, I've been able to pull off dirty snipes and quick body shot kills with primary then sniper as well as a few quick scope and no scope headshots at close range.
Thanks mate. Your a legend.
Dean Fowler No problem :).
Hovey, seeing your grammar mistake, quickly cleansed this text by commenting upon it and rendering it holy
A legend starts here..
Great video man. Really impressive. Thanks
dude your a beast with that sniper, do you recommend certain sensitivity for movement
Sweeping and drag scoping are the same thing , correct? Even though drag scoping is commonly referred to when quick scoping is in the mix. Still, relatively similar I presume?
Dreyvin Bouyer Yes, exact same in concepts. Dragging is just more commonly referred to in CoD (which makes the quick scoping part make more sense).
Hey! I learned some stuff today! Nice Vid :D
Michael Plaja-Paul Awesome! Glad I could help :).
Thanks for this video! Been trying to move away from shotguns. Needed something like this to get me started lol
I followed these tips and i was puling off quick scopes in matter of days.
also what sensitivity is the best for sniping?
just a quick question does patience and time somewhat nullify the don't camp tip? seeing as u camouflage when aiming down sight? was just wondering
It's not hard to see camo people after that point... in fact, I think it's a little easier to snipe camo people... for some reason.
ok thanks for t e reply i realyu dont cqc snipe im usaly the guy who sits baack at a safe didtence gets like 2 kills at least then moves
***** I came from Counterstrike, and I do most of my gaming on PC. That's probably why it feels so foreign to me :P
Cheers mate thanks for the tips, i'll watch the update if you do for sure!
Sweeping was actually massive in Halo 2, it pretty much started the term sweep sniping. Because hitscan. Halo 3, not so much, because it wasn't set up in that same way.
Excellent sniping guide, well explained.
