Do you live in Dallas or Austin? We're looking for Sweet Digs near YOU! Submit yours, or send to a friend click here: bit.ly/2MVXlFn
Refinery29 i dont have a home to showcase but the fact that you’re bringing it to Texas makes me so happy
I live in San Antonio🤔😕
Please put New Orleans on your list! So many topics: rising rents in dowtown/CBD, parking is a major issue - need to be close to a streetcar line, the struggle of deciding to remodel or keep the character of an older place, etc etc :)
Come to the Washington D.C. area next! So many 20 something’s, and the cost of living can be very high so I’m sure people would like to see deals in different neighborhoods!
Refinery29 does it have to be Dallas or Austin proper?
While the home is really well laid out and designed, I have no clue how it cost her 125K in renovations.....
125K for vanlife? Jesus christ. It's a beautiful bus but jeez that's a lot
I know. Its lovely. But NJ gets cold so it wont be liveable in winter.
@@anastasiarenaud2568 thank goodness it has wheels so she can move it whenever she wants🤣
the 'vanlife' bit made me burst out laughing. Actually in tears over here, thank you!
As a NYer I think this is GREAT! No way she'd be able to buy a space that size for less than 500K in NYC. Plus she designed it and she gets to take it on the road? Sign me up!
Rymdkakor in San Francisco 125k get u a couple of windows. No joke I asked for 8 windows and I got charged 119k
It’s cute and all, but building your dream mobile home over a 50 year old engine doesn’t seem like the greatest idea, especially not with the investment. For that kind of money, especially since she doesn’t want to live there long term, why not go for a used pre-fab mobile home? There is less sustainability in what she is advocating here. This is just a rich young person trying to be super quirky.
Finally someone with some sense in the comments.
Yeah I agree!!! I would get it if it was a cheaper investment and temporary as well (have seen a few people who do it over their uni years) but this seems not well thought through
That's how I feel! I live in a fully furnished rv that I got for 7,000 it's 38ft and everything works and came in perfect condition it's a 1996 and I've been living in it for a year already now and it's still going strong idk why you would waste all that money for no fucking reason if I had all that to spend on an RV I would get a really fucking nice one not the shell of an old ass bus so I can make it look all hipster
Jordie Madison hey rich young person! Could you cash app me $568 dollars for books? $ashuhly
@Mike Brink it's a Fleetwood pace arrow '96 with a Chevy engine idk if that's what you're asking. I got it for pretty cheap in perfect condition from someone who had to get rid of it for different situations other than not wanting it or financial so it really was perfect I've definitely beat it up a lil having animals and two people in here but nothing has broken that can't be fixed(mostly it's just astestic things) and the body and electric and engine are all still perfectly fine
So beautiful. But $125,000. That’s a hefty price tag to live in a bus that you’re selling and then traveling the world. 🤔
I don't understand how it cost 125K to fix that up? I feel like she got ripped off.
Not only does she have to pay for the materials but has to pay the workers too
@@mikaylah1313 literally the most expensive moat luxuriously designed mobile home I see is worth 70k.. thats not self built
I saw an article about this. The bus had original seats, so she had to rip out the inside, and install a bunch of special equipment for van living.
400 sqft is not van life. in fact that's the far upper end of what you'd even consider a "tiny home". that closet would be unthinkable in a van, as well as that 2nd queen guest bed.
When you want to live the hippie van life but you have a rich father
mmaks lmao true
I rewinded it more than 4 times to understand if she is saying $10k plus.. or $100k plus ... so fucking stupid !!!
why the fuck would anyone spend that amount of money on a fucking mobile home?? and its a 1960 bus.. fuck this rich people shit
I guess reality will kick in now that she is trying to sell it.. she will finally understand how stupid she was.. she cant sell it more than $20k
@@TsarOfRuss 😁😁😁
I mean you would spend that much or more on buying a home, this is her home. Lots of young people can afford houses nowadays
Are you guys sure she lives in that bus? Cause I've seen that bus on tiny house listing for MONTHS. She had a crazy price like 150k-200k. To which everyone, like me, was like that's ridiculous. There are literally buses priced at 10k that have a better layout and work better than this. Idk why she even spent that much on a bus. Definitely not worth the investment. When or if she sales it, she's gonna lose money
She said in the video She doesnt plan on living there more than 5 years. I think she didnt get the social media hype She was hoping for and give up hahahaah
She says she's selling it to travel abroad. I think she'll be lucky to get $50k for it - and that's being generous. In the end, it's still a 50 year old bus.
Me reading the title: “That’s a damn shame”
The point of van life is to save, not spend 125k 😓🤯
TheBlurbs D. That’s how you envision “van life” she simply wanted to downsize and be closer to nature.
Maybe it's a drop in the bucket for her. It's relative
She could be saving. We don't know what her monthly rental costs were. And monthly rental is exorbitant in Manhattan proper.
I don’t really understand how she spent 125k in renovations. She could buy a top of the line rv for that
When you are involved in a project that involves labor and contractors...costs can go crazy. It's always safer to buy a finished product, if you are not trained to supervise a project from start to finish.
Guys, obviously it wasn’t the money that she was trying to save...or she wouldn’t have invested. She wanted the mobility. Smh....y’all are something.
I might have an idea for the front's privacy - are the strips between windows, corners or rivets anywhere up there magnetic? If so, I'd trace the shape you want to cover onto newsprint/kraft paper and sew/have it sewn to fit with those crazy baby magnets in the seam. It'd only take about the space of a flat sheet and you could store it with the linens for the bed!
Spending that amount on a conversion really defeats the entire spirit of van life...
Emily Nelson no it doesn't. That's your spirit of van life, not hers.
OMG, this is just beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
you can fill the fuel tanks up pal. every day.,,,
Nic Parker
Very true!
+angelone11 Thanks for checking it out!!
Ideas for privacy in the front of the bus....black-out curtains. To keep the cold out and the warmth in or the cold in and the heat out custom made reflective magnetic shades. I hope this helps, and I love your home, it's so awesome; good luck and happy travels.
You should get some custom blinds for the front window, something you can tie up when driving but spread across when not.
To get more privacy maybe get some shades
Charlie Krem a simple curtain separating the cab from the house. People are really extra.
Attach beautiful material to magnets and they will easily stick on the metal ceiling...
+roxsanambrosini Wow, great idea!!
I find the idea of small homes interesting, but if I were to go that route it would be to own a home for much less. And it seems that lots of people end up spending as much as you would for a regular small home.
I've seen a lot of skoolie transformations, and honestly I'm not impressed. There's so much non used space, why? You spend that much money and you don't even have a table to eat or work, don't have a lot of shelving space, it looks more of a place to sleep sometimes, eat sometimes and use sometimes. And by sometimes I mean a weekend getaway every 3 months or so 😕
Unless she just didn't show it, the bus doesn't seem to have a toilet so she either does her business in the park outdoors or she doesn't actually live in the bus, lol.
@@BestMMORPG2017-games she said she has a composting toilet in the same area as the sink, opposite side from the shower.
Why not just build a tiny home? 🤔
My Dad made his curtains for his windshield, what he did is he got those snap on buttons and bolted them around the top. Then added the other buttons to the curtains to align to those ones so he just snapped them in when he needed.
Cool!!
Thank you for listening and putting the videos back to normal. I enjoy watch SweetDigs😍❤️
+lovefromdey We wanted to try something new! We will be alternating between regular Sweet Digs and VR, but don't worry, the original Sweet Digs isn't going anywhere!!
Awh she's so cute, love her appreciation and respect of other cultures. Often, people have chachkis with rich cultural history but don't know anything about the backstory. She seems like the perfect person to carry on the stories for these special items.
+moniquet Thanks for noticing the small details!
"Cute"? I see a matronly middle aged hippy female.
That's a crazy amount of money invested you'll never get that back;-(
My husband and I live in a 76sq ft slide in truck camper. This is basically a mansion lol
tapistry/curtains, curtain rods, and command hooks. Maybe even rigging them a bit, but having the ability to move and remove them. Doing that for any window of the bus that isnt already covered.
Nobody is going to pay anything near the amount she would need to break even on this.
Living in a tiny home is my dream!! We're saving for an older model rv at the moment; luckily my fiance and his best friend are licensed contractors...so it shouldn't coat me 1/2 as much.
People are SO negative, she didn’t spend y’all’s money. It’s cool that she revived something that would have just rotted away. It’s a cool home and she loves it and that’s all that matters.
What does she do for a living? I need a good 125k to pay off my student loans 😂
With 125K on Student Loans you should have a good job.
KetzYp0p I do have a good job, but I wish I had $125k. I don’t.
Taylor Rude for no reason at all. Thanks for the laugh though.
Taylor ok girlie but you're the rude one here, there's a thing called 'Sarcasm' people use.
Taylor I didn’t ask for anyone to give me $125k. It was a joke that clearly went over your head. I was wondering what she did for a living so I could do it too. Calling me an asshole for being sarcastic. I really wasn’t serious. But again thanks for making me chuckle over you being so extra.
While the van is nice and i can see how it would be great for mobile living, i feel she would have spent less on a new rv, and with $125k she could buy a house in cash and not worry about a mortgage or just buy a house with a payment would be cheaper and you would get more
A house cannot be bought in cash for that price in her region--neither New York nor New Jersey. You can't even get a studio apartment with a view of a brick wall for that price.
In Jersey homes are 500,000 and property taxes about 1500$ monthly without utilities or living costs. No way could u buy a home with 125k
Im in Chicago and a rat cant buy a home for 125k. Lol my condo 2 bedroom is 279k
Update:
"Greyhound bus"? I don't think so. Looks like a city transit bus to me. Probably geared in the basement, 4.5 MPG on the highway (if you're lucky) For $1.25K a good class A RV could be sourced. A drill in pissaway silliness.
The primary (singular) intelligent move was selling it.
Shes so adorable!!💗 and she decorated the place really cute!!
where does she wash her clothes?
how many batteries power all that?
how does she get AC while she sleeps?
eVCephei from my knowledge it’s essentially all generator run but you can plug into a 50 (?) amp outlet n you’re good to go with ac and all that!! and typically laundry is done on site where youre paying to stay or ya find a laundromat :-)
ooooOOoooh thanks :)
eVCephei probably a laundromat
Have you seen +Eamon & Bec’s channel?
Laundrymats are everywhere in big cities
Its costlier than an actual house but damn, its amazing !
Where does a house cost that low?
Jana Roos I bought my 2300 square foot house for 125k.
Jana Roos Depends on where you live. Here in Norfolk VA, a small 2-bedroom home can cost that low but would probably need a lot of renovating.
@@TiffReed yeh I know you can buy houses her in Belgium for that price but they are Def not livable 😅
Jana Roos Lol yup... they’d probably need the cost of another house of work.
For the windshield, just use pull down blackout curtains, it should help with privacy!
To get more privacy put curtains up and take them off when driving
For the front window glue l-------| velcro all across the top of the window and side windows then buy black out curtains light weight to fit windows and sew velcro on the tops of the curtains so all you have to do it stick them in at night or you can use multicolored stain glass stickers on the side of the bus that isn't the drivers side so you get the privacy at night and light in day but I think velcro idea is better.
i feel like she should have bought a nicer tailer. something more reliable that will last longer without having to worry about putting money in all the time
That bus is actually a vancouver bc and northvan bc bus from the 1970s they auctioned them off when they made the new busses back in the 80s and some were shipped all over the world they are famous in Canada 🇨🇦 and have alot of spiritual meaning to the folk there.
There a flexible curtain tracks that you can find on amazon. They will bend to the curve. If you check out wild by the mile, she has them in her custom van.
Curtains for the front
How to waste your money and destroy your life 101
I've seen people do curtains that roll up so they're not in the way when you drive. They have some Curtains that you push up wards so the curtains aren't in your bindspot when you drive
I've been obsessed with tiny home and van tours for weeks now so that fact that you guys made this video is everything
+heyoangelicat Glad you enjoyed!!
you could install a light weight coated cable that would allow you to hang curtains when needed or keep them installed and use a pulley system. If it would work to put a second removable cable around the lower edge of the window, the curtains would fit closer to the glass leaving more space.
+aprescafe Love this tip!!
This was a cool home❗️ I wonder if she goes to FL during the winter? ❄️
Glass that becomes frosted with a switch.
Tinted windows will give more privacy.
+melissawenham Great tip!!
no only in daytime
Tinted windows will also help keep it cooler in the summer (I saw where she has it as an AB&B in Joshua Tree)
For privacy, you can put blinds that you can pull down
Make or buy some cute curtains for the front of the bus. You could get something to tie them back when you are driving the bus too!
You could run curtains on the inside so that it covers the front windows and string up some lights to give it a more cozy and intimate feel :)
Cover the windshield. Am I the only one who thinks 125K - plus custom design - is a real bargain??? As a native NYer she gets the value of space; she'd paid about 600-800K for a place that size in the 5 boroughs - custom work not included.
Does she need CDL to drive it? How does security's work? Someone could steal your entire home.
I saw in here somewhere that she did not need a special license...which is strange because my friend drives a school bus for public schools and had to have one for work. Looks like she put a regular door/lock on it.
What an aesthetically pleasing space!
In San Francisco 125,000 get you a couple of windows.
I love this!
#R29SQUAD 🦄❤️
So cool!! For those saying it isn't worth it, a rental space that size in a lot of places would be $2k a month. Plus she gets to travel. Even if the motor lasted 6 years, it would be worth it. I'm guessing it will last much longer and the cost of upkeep is less. Gorgeous!! Plus this is customized and she seems to be thrilled with the space. Imagine renovating an entire home, even a small one. Materials that beautiful cost money.
Yet, she is selling it.
You can add a certain
Curtains or sliding door for privacy.
WOW!! Stunning home
For the windshield I'd suggest magnetic panels/covers.
I'm seeing a lot more ppl living the van life. It's kind of tempting
+cnicroute Right?!
So true
Just get those window covers to keep the cub out and make them pretty with some fabric
Have you thought about a custom made extension rod to separate/block the front window with drapery to give privacy for front bed?
She did a beautiful job with the reno...
Beautiful home😀👌👏
I love these diy projects. Im building my own too. But, im using my own stuff.
To get more privacy
IKEA has like these curved railings you can attach to the ceiling and hang curtains for privacy separation..
Imma try to get the link 😬🧐
I wanna live like this
This is like my dream😍😍
My 1st reaction as well! 😍
How do you maintain residence with in the state? What documents did you need to get?
Reminds me of Drew Barrymore 😍(however it’s spelled) 🤷🏽♀️
I like her house , she should try to rent it out or Airbnb I'm sure it would be popular for short term rentals .
I read that she did exactly that! What a cool idea!
This was gorgeous! I’ve watched many Tiny Home tours and they all seem the same. But this is by far my favorite unique home! Keep them coming R29!
+junekeke We upload every Sunday!
Your plates are gorgeous.
FANTASTIC
This is bigger than some houses I've seen on this channel
To get privacy you can install electronic proverb glass, throughout the bus.
Since you spent 125k on remodeling the bus I am assuming you have money
Maybe install a door?
I absolutely love her live in bus. If I had the money I'll pay her double for it. God bless you and every step you make throughout your journey. 💖😍😘
Where did you get your jumpsuit? Love it!!!!
OMG! Asbury Park - This is right by mom's place. I hope to see you around AP sometime. :-) I hope your house find a good owner soon. xxx
I hope she finds a buyer. I wonder if she lived in it long enough to recup some of her 125K. If she lived in it about 5 years, assuming that in Manhattan she was renting for 2K a month, the van would have paid for itself. And the selling price will be profit.
this might be the only van/home i've seen that is so well done... love this!
Not a van; a BUS! Big difference imo!
REFINARY 29 IN MY HOME TOWN WHATTT!!!
BEST vanlife channel: +Eamon&Bec Love VANLIFE!
Hire a seamtress to make you custom curtain with heavy duty magnets
Magnetic curtains work well in busses for privacy
Absolutely amazing! ! Wow. I could live in something like this. .especially love the bathroom areas.
This bus is gorgeous. I wonder how she parks it when she's on the road. What if someone tows her home?
I always wonder what people who live in tiny homes do for a living to be able to live and make an income with such stability!
Magnetic curtain or curtain with suctions
Love this series
+brej Thanks for tuning in!
It doesn't seem cheap. I bought my condo for $330,000 and it's over 1440 sq. ft. It's three bedrooms and if I rent two bedrooms out (I don't), it would almost pay for itself. I do think it's beautiful but just not cheap nor convenient.
Another, this is a genuine question for those who live a van life, do you guys have health insurance?
wow! I almost deleted this video without watching it. I thought it was going to some hippie BS! I was pleasantly surprised.
OMG I WISH I LIVED THERE
Omg this was so cool to watch k love that she did this
I'm pretty familiar with that area; would love to know where you can park that huge bus for $100 a month? That's less than a dorm at Monmouth! Every college kid would do it, just doesn't seem truthful :(
