  • This shouldn't be happening 😩 Please wild camp respectfully, leave no trace and keep the wilderness clean.
My thoughts on all the rubbish left by illegal wild campers and stealth campers fly-tipping and leaving wild spaces in an absolute mess.

    Very important message. Thank you!
We have similar occurrence here in the States... as my dad once said, "leave the campsite better than how you found it."

    !!
It very hurts to see nature like that and the animals are suffocated from the cans / cans and sometimes die as a result.
    A very important video!
Thanks that you bring it up.

I'm in southern Calif. An odd water bottle or wrapper here and there isn't a big deal. I always pick them up. But like your images show sometimes you will come across a totally trashed campsite with an illegal fire ring. It's beyond comprehension how people can do that.

sadly right now all across the UK ( and no doubt other places as well) people who dont normally camp are camping, they dont know the proper way to camp, so they destroy

Look no further, there was no Glastonbury or other festivals to attend due to COVID 19 lockdown plus campsites have restrictions on groups and numbers now so bang countryside trashed by them that would otherwise trash festivals. A total disgrace and doesn’t bode well for the future of wild camping in England.

Well said Russ and like the rest of us that try our best to be responsible in the outdoors & leave no trace these images of trash are just heartbreaking. Ever since moving to beautiful Dartmoor it staggers us how much rubbish & human “waste” is left. There are places we now don’t walk or take our dogs because of this and for a national park that is tragic. really enjoy your videos and I’m new to wild camping.

This is the only planet we have. It feeds us, and gives us somewhere to live. People should care more.
I agree we should always have a carrier bag or bin liner when we got out and collect rubbish. Every little helps

  • @WilderhopeAdventures
    @WilderhopeAdventures 3 года назад +2

I like that Dartmoor authorities used very specific terminology and language to differentiate between wild campers and "fly caampers"...it's good that these authorities are recognizing the difference. I think it might be a suggestion to edit the thumbnail/title of your video to reflect that name too...

Sadly, there is mess left everywhere even on Mount Everest where I think something like 11,000 tonnes of rubbish was removed. But there is no deterrent in the UK for these open air drinking sessions, so the yahoos get away with it. Tell them to pick it up and you probably end up with a black eye for your trouble.

    • @lisaduffy8224

We took an early trip partway up the Watkin Path to hike up Y Aran yesterday. I was horrified to see tents chairs, and general rubbish left behind. We saw tents pitched so near the trail, as conspicuous as you like. I am a leave no trace wild camper, and if the worst comes to worst I’d pay for a permit, if it were ever suggested.

What I don't understand is why they don't go and camp on a rubbish tip. It means they must be able to at least recognise beauty. The only conclusion I can reach is that they care about nothing and are totally selfish. The police and countryside rangers should be able to impose severe on-the-spot fines and should patrol in numbers and be well-resourced. Farmers and local people need to organise and get their MP on the case. The various Tourist boards need to step up too. Supermarkets and others should stop selling cheap tents. Government should invest in proper toilet and waste disposal facilities, centrally funded, in popular areas where overflowing bins are a problem but local councils cannot cope. I know you shouldn't have to but these drunken, ignorant campers are lazy. Regulate and limit the renting of motorhomes. Taxi firms should not drop bunches of lads with beer crates in the middle of the countryside. This is what is happening in Scotland, Neds who would normally be Ibiza this time of year..

Good video but I don't know if I agree with saying don't light any fires. This is a big problem I have with a lot of people into backpacking and wild camping. Where do you think the gas for your stove comes from? What about all the plastic gear hikers use? Whether it's cheap gear that hardly lasts or even top branded gear (jackets, other clothing, boots, gas canisters, tents, sleeping bags) that people replace every year to keep up with the newest version, it all has an impact on the planet. Yeah you might think you're leaving no trace in your local trail in the UK or America or wherever, but all the crap you're buying certainly leaves a trace somewhere else in the world. The whole youtube reviewer thing is the worst. Constantly buying the latest gear and encouraging others to do the same when its not needed in most cases. Anyway, enjoy your channel, keep up the good work.

These are probably the usual wankers that fly off and ruin other popular tourist spots in Europe. We planned to start doing wild camping this year, bought all our gear in January and then the big C hit and every idiot and reveller is doing it so not sure what to do now. We certainly don't want to be associated with the kind of people that do this, I can't understand why anyone would do this. If you put in the effort to camp how hard can clearing up after be? I mean cmon!

Just got home from work and i couldn't think of a single word to describe those humans , can't even use the word animals as it will be disrespect to the real Animals because they would not treat nature in an act as this . I call on all good hikers/wild campers to please if you see it report it and if possible clean it .

I don't know if this is a problem in the UK or elsewhere in the world as well (I believe so) but it's for sure a problem here in Germany:
Female hikers, peeing and leaving their tissues everywhere. It drives me mad. Everywhere you look: tissues. What's the problem, ladies, just take your stuff with you. Yes, I'm a woman too, I know what I'm talking about.
If you don't carry a trash bag with you or you think it's unhygienic take a doggy poo bag with you, you can buy them everywhere. Put your tissue(s) in there, make a knot, nothing will smell, it's a small package and at the end of the hike throw it in a proper bin. It's so easy.

I feel like it's wrong to even call these people campers, they're 'campers' in a literal sense that they are camping: but backpacking, camping, and hiking also comes with a responsibility and duty of care for the outdoors and nature - so if you're not taking care of the environment that you're enjoying, you're not really camping in my opinion, you're just an ignorant / selfish / entitled arsehole who is littering and fly tipping. Unfortunately, a byproduct is that the media have latched on to the term 'wild camping' and 'wild campers' to refer to these people who are just scum really.
I will say that I did the Angelsey Coastal Path 2 weeks ago, I took a massive bag to collect any rubbish I came across along the way, and I didn't see a single piece of litter or trash along the whole 140 miles. I don't know if that's because the local community has a sense of pride and respect for nature, or it's less 'touristy' or it's slightly further afield, or maybe there are local day hikers / dog walkers picking up litter regularly - it's definitely interesting (and depressing) to think about why this is only happening in certain places around the UK.

    • @lillebrorske7816

If you decide to go out into the woods/wild/whatever you decide to STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE and get into nature.
That means you're a guest and so you should behave.
Clothes, sprays and citronella candles can keep mosquitos away pretty good without annoying all the other animals.
If you NEED to light a fire, you can still find solutions to harm nature as less as possible.
And if this little bit of awareness is too much, please stay at home.
