Played by HM Royal Marines Band through the streets of Glasgow
The “Colonel Bogey March” is a popular march that was composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (1881-1945) (pen name Kenneth J. Alford), a British Army bandmaster who later became the director of music for the Royal Marines at Plymouth. Кино
Shows how effective a marching beat is, even the pedestrians inadvertently walk in time to it 🤣
I'm English and still say that bagpipes achieve it even more effectively
@@mothmagic1 as a Scottish person I'm going to have to disagree, bagpipes rarely ever play marches if at all and personally i feel Jigs and reels are harder to walk with, as for walking in time I know a few (me being one) who go out of there way to walk in time lol
Yet my marching band mates can NEVER march in time
just noticed that lol

Respect from the United States! The Royal Marines were a pleasure for us to fight alongside...they are courageous and fierce in combat, compassionate and loyal always and their band is a treat to listen to. Very nice! The people of the UK can be very proud of their fine Marines.
Thank you for this comment I think our lads enjoy fighting alongside yours boy too , kind regards.
Absolutely stunning. I'm a retired band teacher from Minnesota, All of us owe a lot to the British military band tradition.
I'm a proud American veteran but I will admit that United Kingdom troops have us beat in ceremony and show. And to top it all off they are damned fine fighters and I am proud to call them my brothers in arms.

Thank you for your compliments William, very much appreciated coming from an American veteran. Your comment emphasises the respect and belief that "Brothers in Arms" means exactly that, Brothers in Arms. Walk proud mate is my only advice to you.
I agree with you brother but always had respect for you yanks
every good soldier has a foreigner friend ! because spirit must be the wheel, the engine, and the food of the free fighter. He wins in the end, up to now. Thanks to you, and the british folks !
So proud of all these young men with a job representing their country, good men, working men, doing a trade and being proud to serve the Queen. Uniforms spectacular, pride and learning an instrument so they could serve proudly.
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
It's always funny to watch when the people on the streets start walking with the beat of the drum without even knowing :)
Unbelievable right?
@@leonardwaga no .....right left right left!
Thats kinda how marching works
I think it's a natural reaction
They’re either ex-military or musicians. Or both.
I notice the people on the sidewalks as they instinctively fall in step with these guys. Some are obviously veterans; others look like they're just caught up in the spirit. The Royal Marines project an aura that affects those in contact with them. God bless Her Majesty the Queen and her Royal Marines!
It’s kind of hard to walk regular when a marching band is playing and marching , you find yourself March Walking right along. It’s so much fun . I was in a marching band for six years .
King*
The brain does it automatically.
I have zero musical talent and have always admired musicians but HM Royal Marines, by far, set a standard that all bands should strive to achieve. Congratulations to the Brits from a Yank.
Thanks for your kind words
Nothing overstated . . Just pure class. Make you feel proud to be British. And Only The British Army could March to this tune!
Superb ☺️
@@jimmckay6417 NOT FUCKIN ARMY ________________ROYAL MARINES!!!
The Royal Marines are not part of the British Army.
We Canadians also like to march to it too. But the RN are Top Shelf.
One of my favorite movies when I was a kid. "The Bridge Over the River Kwai". My Dad was stationed in Thailand in the early '70's and I got to go to the location of the real bridge. Was an amazing experience growing up in the military. My dad was stationed all over the world and I got to see many things most people never get a chance to see.
That's the story of all the military Kids
Including one here :)
Wow I'm from Thailand btw nice story
I've visited, there were Japanese guys there walking 3 abrest up and down the middle that time making it known that they wouldn't step aside for you if you were in the way, being a tourist, not paying attention. Any idea why they were being so arsey there?
My dad served 33 years. He was a fighter pilot . We also lived all over the world. Five of us kids were born overseas the other four were born stateside. We were all in the marching band. I absolutely love marching bands it fills one with so much excitement, fun and pride !!
Does it still exist or was it replaced?
I had heard this tune as a 'marching tune' while seeing the movie 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' for the very first time with my Serving Lieutenant Colonel father in 1984. Later, as a Cadet - and still later ; while serving for over 23 years in the Army - AND EVEN NOW as a 'retired Major', i whistle this tune whenever i have a long walk....... Can only add that i have a 35 years long association with THIS 'tune' - and it is almost a part of my life. The latest is that my eldest daughter recently sent it from Canada as my 'birthday gift'....... HATS OFF
My wife and I saw this band in an indoor marching concert in San Diego a looooog time ago. They were awesome!
I live in India and often times, I pass old Bungalows once occupied by British Military Officerrs, or visit old Army Garrison areas, or Cemetries. This music takes me back in those times. The Indian Army still plays this music.
My late Father RIP a WW2 veteran used to sing: Carrots, they make a lovely stew. Carrots, they are so good for you. To the beginning of this tune. Try it. No disrespect.
What a legend R.I.P
Yes, that works.
Works for me.
haha it goes beautifully
B*llocks are in the army stew, B______s are very good for you, B.......did you say....B......? well b'lox and bl'ocks to you. That's what he heard but was too much of a gentleman to sing that version.
1.6 million views says it all. By far the best military band out there. I keep coming back to this and the march to the ceremony.
Can't beat the royal marines both in music and as a fighting force. I'm so proud of them.
That one Euphonium player made it sound like there were at least a half dozen.Great tonal control!
Truly the best marching version I've heard , instrumental and presentation. A real pleasure to watch.
Thank you very much.
Thanks Roland for your kind comment!
One of my best experiences was marching at the front of a column of soldiers of our regiment onto to a parade ground with this song playing... spine tingling.
This is just the sort of music we all could do with hearing due to this dreadful virus and having to spend so much times in our homes, please can we have more?
I know how you feel, we are coming into our three week of lockdown, but with all these little gems of HMRM, the days seem to glide past, all the best and keep safe kiaora from NZ.
@@xxxmancity1894xxx cheers to you as well, I sympathise with you creaky bones and all, hope you are keeping well, here in kiwiland we are just finishing week 6 of lockdown, at least the levels are coming down slowly only problem the pubs are still shut bugga.
@Me Smith I agree, damn NZ has got pipe bands in damn near every corner of the land, but kiwis love them, nothing like the skirl of the pipes to get the blood going probably because a fair number of folk here have Scottish ancestral bloodlines. They call Invercargill deep south Scotland of the Sth Pacific lol.
Saw (one of) the Royal Marines bands during my holiday in Britain. Amazing. If you have the chance to see them, don't miss it. They ARE the best!! Respects and greetings to all the Royal Marines bands from Bob in Canada.
I saw one of the Royal Marines Bands in London a few years ago. If you have the opportunity, don't miss it. They are THE BEST! Respects to all Royal Marines.
One of the finest martial tunes, send goosebumps through the body every time I listen to it.
I am Canadian and I never been prouder of my British heritage 👍👏👏
Slainte from Toronto!

I thought for a sec this was filmed in Toronto, like the Royal Marines were visiting on tour. I played this March numerous times in Toronto with the 48th Highlanders of Canada, bless their little inaccurate souls -nothing like this.
Same from Maine.
I was stationed at Kanchanapuri, sometimes I stand at river n whistle this tune, .n visualize how it must have been ..
Lest we forget.....
Who else whistled the whole tune and pictured Sir Alec Guinness and worn out army boots?😆
I whistled. Plenty of it.
One of the smartest and best marching bands in the world. The best naval fighting machine..
I love how the Euphoniums(baritones) and trombones carry the counter melody. I played baritone for many years in high school band. Love the Royal Marines !
Now the trombones unfortunately don't play the CM. It is either Euphonium and Sax or just Euphonium.
My Dad, a WWII Veteran, of the Pacific Theater, favorite March. A really good rendition; the Soldiers so brilliant in their steps.
stan ochocki .. Mmmm. Marines, Royal Marines. 😃😄😏😀☺️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
THAT IS WHY THE BRITISH ARMED FORCES ARE THE BEST.. WELL DISCIPLINED AT ALL TIMES.
You gotta' love the way he filmed the whole thing hearing the euphonium player really making it sing!
I love how the police and spectators all walk in step with the band!
It's very catchy. Reminds me of the movie A Bridge of the River Kwai.
That is respect
US Marine to the Royal Marines, outstanding, Semper Fidelis! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
my dad loved the RM band, he served firstly as a royal marine in 1941 then joined 40 RM commando in 1942 and was in Italy then joined 45 RM commando in early 1944 and stayed in the marines till the late 1950's. he passed away in 2010 and was a proud marine.
All credit to your dad he served with the best.
My dad was in 42 RM commando from 1942, mostly in Burma. I remember as a kid going to Cardiff docks to see the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Marines Band were playing. The old man's back stiffened up and he looked so proud God bless him.
Semper Fi to your Dad!
No such thing as "stayed in the marines till the late 50's"
Once a marine always a marine.

Absolutely wonderful precision and beautiful sound this parade march has. Their timing and sound is so nice to watch and listen too.
Many thanks from Canada.
Thank you for posting this amazing video.
THAT IS JUST ONE OF THE THINGS WE BRITISH ARE REALLY GOOD AT. MAINTAINING DISCIPLINE IN OUR FORCES. THANKS FOR YOUR POSITIVE COMMENT.
The drums are dam tight. Lots of memories of playing this in junior high.
Your valiant effort in trying to stick by the euphonium player is appreciated. He played so sweetly he`s simply brilliant. Thanks for sharing a great band display.
Tonight I got a lesson on the euphonium! The Amy band demonstrated and explained all the instruments they use and gave a short demo on each, it was very interesting and I know more now than I ever Have! (Which was very little)
The photographer was sticking by the tuba player. The euphonium and French horns were together behind the tuba and closer to the center of the band.

Some of the finest drumming I've ever heard. Good marching, too. Impressive. Makes my left foot want to get in step.
Inform Lord Vader that the Royal Marines have broken through in strength and are advancing rapidly!!!
TOO LATE HEAD FOR THE HILLS.
Aussie here. That was amazing.
Simply brilliant. Why is this one of the few bands in the world who understand what tempo Bogey should be played....love it !!!
@@BruceFerrero I don’t care.
This American has always said that you Brits are second to none when it comes to pomp and ceremonial activity
Has to be said we've had centuries of practice. If we haven't got it right by now we never will
Yup
Love it. Thank you. Dad was in Lancs. Fusilliers Band so many wonderful childhood memories. Love and miss you always dad. Thanks for your service especially in WW2.xxx
LANCASHIRE FUSILLIERS 7 VCs BEFORE BREAKFAST FIRST WORLD WAR. THAT IS WHAT YOU CALL SOLDIERING AND BRAVERY . WELL DONE . I SALUTE YOU. A rtd. FORMER INFANTRY SOLDIER OF 30 YRS. SERVICE BRITISH INFANTRY REGIMENT.
When I was at Paris Island at boot camp the DIs used to get pissed off when the band played this. We started marching to that, instead of the cadence they were calling
Marines do cadence - " Aint no use in lookin down , aint no discharge on the ground"
During my 10 years service as a Bootneck in the 1960's I wasn't over keen on military music. My music was all Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Who etc. But now, I just love watching the Bootneck's band on these videos. I particularly like the Corps of Drums, they are just fantastic.
A real military march, very well played while marching and beautiful to listen to.
What a great drum cadence to set this great old tune off. Tremendous!!!!!!
I treasure my days with the marching band.
I am not tired of listening to this
My father was a RM Commando in WW2 so the RM band will always be in my heart.
The best rendition of this march, thanks for bringing it back!
Thank youtube for seeing sense and reinstating my account!
What a beautiful arrangement of that tune!
Of all the bands I have watched, this drum corp is the only one i have seen where the drummers wear white gloves! SHARP! They look as good as they sound, and that says a lot!
I love that magnificent band playing
When I was in high school this was one of my favorite marches to play. Of course we did not sound as good as this band!
I'm an American and i'm loving this music god bless everybody and long live our ally Britain!!
@Bluepurgatory1 HEAR, HEAR !!!)
Nice to see someone having pride in themselves!! Thank you.☺
The drummers are really impressive especially the way they whip their drumsticks up to their noses and back again and still keep the tempo. I've often wondered where that practice originated from.
A bit late to the party…. But it comes from the days when signals on a battlefield was sent by drum … raising the sticks to their nose signifies a break,in the message ….
Smashing performance
I'm marching around the kitchen as I listen to this.
Love this video! I play it at least once daily.
the appearance is invariably impressive.
I myself was a military musician at the Garde Musik in Vienna.
The drummers are great. And also the band is great.
Excellent, especially the drum line.
The memory of my father endears me to this song....he loved military or brass bands he spent the war in Japanese Prisoner of War Camps in the Far East....."The forgotten War " that is....but his love of England and Churchill never wavered
I recognize the song and to see not only a band marching to the music but also everyone involved, powerful! I enjoyed watching the march. I move my screen up so I just see the legs and feet and these young men know how to do it. Thanks for the music, thanks for allowing me to see and hear music from another part of the world. I live in Peoria, Arizona. The internet has really opened a new door to quality entertainment. Thanks to all who put this together to bring it to the world. Very well done! - Dennis Zinke
I hadn't noticed this before but all that magnificent counterpoint filling the middle register. Wonderful stuff.
What a great performance! Greetings from the U.S. BTW - the band looks very sharp. 👍
Can’t listen to this without picturing Alec Guinness and William Holden.
@Noel Phillip even if it was not as it was shown in the film
Blitish plisiners.Loved that Line.
In My case, Remebering my father. Les Graffham, Royal (Machine) Commando WWII :-) Until I see that royal poncying about to the right side in his green beret? Which alas makes me think of that Fucking Poofter Paddy Ashdown :-( He never needed to Cum [sic] Out :-(

Robert Graffham um did you mean come?
Happy to see this full version restored!
From the best military band in the world!
American here (ignore the pfp) Not even my nation but I’ll be damned if that drum set at the beginning doesn’t inspire feelings of strength and patriotism. Amazing rendition of this song
Beautiful and Lively March! Thanks for sharing!
Very well played
God bless to you all, stay safe, best wishes from Liverpool UK xx
"The Bridge on the River Kwi" Alex Guiness was great in this movie and this march made the whole thing much better. One of the best movies ever!
We played this when I was in HS band many years ago. I love marches!
The crowd restraining smiles, thinking of the LYRICS of the Colonel Bogey March!
This must be my favorite go to march, these guys n gals are the best!
wish I could get these guys to play for my mum , she's very ill and it would help her a lot
Just Google: prayers for you mum, hope she is better very soon. And hello from California, USA! You lot across the pond do a bangup job when it comes to military parades/music!
Superb band, no doubt this tune has stirred many proud feelings and support in times of stress in impossible situations for wartime troops in action. Hard to beat the Royal Marines.
Great job in videotaping this ! Thank you ! Love the music and the marching band !
I loved this when I watched this three years ago. And Utube recommended it to me again just now. And I still love it ! 😀
This march was the theme tune in the movie, "Bridge on the River Kwai" the memorable movie made by the Famed Director David Lean. He was also the director of "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr. Zhivago." The march is known as "Colonel Bogey March."
Nah...you're shitting me?.....really?
Also 'Great Expectations', 1946.
THE MUSIC WAS COMPOSED circa 1911 BRITISH MILITARY COMPOSER.
Just love that euphonium countermelody. Smooth!
Les Sweetman YES! Isn't it lovely! 😍
I like the cinematic countermelody version more !!
Those are baritones, not euphoniums.
Could only see one euphonium, no baritones. The bell is too broad for a Baritone, and the fully compensating tubes of the eupho are clearly visible. Also in 4.34 to 4.41 you can see the middle finger of the left hand is held over the fourth valve, which is also only in a euphonium. Sometimes Americans call Eupho's as Baritones. If you look up the original brass band music that part was written for Euphoniums, and in some places the 1st baritone plays along with the eupho, In military bands the tenor sax also plays much of the counter-melody.
Les Sweetman You are very right Sir! 4th valve and Compensation is only available on Euphonium!
Reminds me of my mother and father, both veterans. They loved this.
ユーフォニウムは、鮮やかな心地よいハーモニーですね。日本から、応援しますよ。
