Haha no problem! We figure we would answer this question before someone destroys their own mold! Worked great but I have a feeling that your mold might be toast without that mold release!
Applied Physics actually… ”Science” is the dogmatic Leftist cult that is taken on Pure BlindFaith and “Must not be questioned under any circumstances or you are Racist, because it’s “SCIENCE”..”…🤔 Welcome to post Obama
It also breaks surface tension of the resin which helps cut down on any surface bubbles if you aren't pressure casting or anything like that. Dusting molds is really common in prop / costume making.
I call dibs on the first hard bait mold! Will be a perfect addition to my instagram segment "i got no clue what i'm doing, but i'm doing it anyway" :D Thanks guys, made my monday a bit better!
This would be handy if you had line tie inserts for a crankbait that can go into the mold.... it may float super fast unless there also was a lead insert, and may not make any noise, but many successful crankbaits have no beads either. Very cool..
I think if you made some smaller simple shaped lipless crank baits, that’d be the best thing to pour. Having your own limitless supply of crank baits with the option of adding a lip could be very handy.
don't know if it helps on these or not but you can also use a plastic syringe to inject resin, I started this on silicone molds as sometimes I had issues with just pouring the resin. Atleast the resin I use doesn't stick on the syringe walls and I can just remove it from the back of the syringe after it cures.
This is a very useful method if you are looking to make custom vacuum clamshell packaging for your swimbaits. Thank you 🙏🏻 I have been trying g to figure out how to get a hard copy of my swimbaits for the vacuum box I made! Stoked!!
Pretty sure u can use almost any 2part epoxy for this if you want too (after mixing the epoxy blow on it with a heatgun to make it very "runny?" onstead of stiff then pour it in) And yes not for your ordinary softbait molds would be more fit for crankbaits
I think a cool thing to do now that you know this would be like those tables you see with things in them under the resin top. make a bunch of different resin lures all painted nice and then make them into a table.
On the west coast we use alot of clamshell cut bait immitating resin baits, mostly to intice by scent. Would be cool to utilise a diffrent angle of whats capable here.
I'm not particularly interested in setting up a whole soft plastic operation for how little I use plastics.. But being able to easily make reliable swimbaits, now that I would definitely be looking into
If you don't see options at checkout please email us at epicbaitmolds@gmail.com with the molds you would like and we can send you a custom invoice with shipping.
If you wanted to do a two pour of soft and hard the mold could be modified from the type you have shown. Making the "leak spot" the second pouring sprue and adding a tail insert that restricts the mold for the hard pour to be removed after cure but before the soft pour. I would suggest that you shape a spine or tang of sorts into the insert. This would increase the surface area of bonding potential between the two medium. I hope this is functional enough to give you some ideas. I also realize that makes it a 2 pour and 5 step process that may be more headache than two molds and a bonding solution afterwards.
I could see roto-molding as an option. Mold halves to be hollow, then insert rattles, flashy stuff(for transparent resin) and other things for crankbaits.
@@EpicBaitMolds Have a few inserts to put in to make different sized internal cavities. Small ones to insert hook hangers etc. larger ones to insert weights even larger to insert rattlers. So to setup the mold you just choose the size of the insert to match your application. One mold could be used for several different configurations.
That's very interesting !!! Multi part lures next ?? Even more Simple Lure Bodies for ...... dare I say ....... LEAD pouring ????? Epic Bait Molds off to begin another Venture !!!
Will be awesome for multi piece baits. Could even lay in the hardware before pouring. This could be the first home hard bait making kits.ThankQ.TkEZ>UK
I was curious myself. This is great!! I want to try this on my grave digger jig mold just to see if I can make my swimbaits dive. Thanks for the video!
1. Nice to see that Tom Keen has found a job after Blacklist 2. Pls Drill a thin hole through the length of the bait in the center (from mouth to 'hip') cut of the tail, put it back in the mold, close the mold and press some of the jelly Plastik that you normally use through the bait. So a new tail is being created that is able to wobble. I hope you understand my idea.
Comment for the algorithm. Additionally, if you read this, that bait WILL swim, but you would have to "carve" the tail to get rid of the paddle and get it something slimmer. Or cut the tail off completely and add a rear spinner/treble.
Awesome video guys. Out of respect for mold makers. I would never use resin to replicate somebody else's molds. You guys work wayyy to hard to make your molds and I want to respect that. Also there is going to be a noticeable difference between a bait made with your CNCed mold and a silicone replica.but like you said, Its a great thing to know, especially if you want to make a mold of your own design. We love seeing the videos guys.
this is great! would love to see how it might swim.....as is but you could make a mold with segmented sections....as others have suggested in the comments...let us know when you make it!
Do I foresee some awesome lipless, squarebill, deep diver, muskie lure, etc. Molds for resin casting?!!?! This is going to be amazing to see what comes from this. So many blanks for custom painting etc. Maybe a slot to hold the perfect weight distribution of ball bearings or something like that built in? SKIES THE LIMIT!
It would be a good tool for making rubber moldes for injectable soft plastics. Use the resin to make a mold and then use the mold from resin bait to inject for soft plastics.
Take a old Pressure cooker, or buy a used one for dental labs (or new) instal in the lid a tire valve stem and a pressure gauge (look up a lab cooker on the web) Place mould filled with resin, and apply 20 lbs of air ,like filling a tire. Release pressure and open when cured and no bubbles
I think you should pour the tail with salt water plastics, leave them in the mold. Then pour the resin in and let it set up with the soft tail fused with the resin and make is a hard bait with a mobile tail
A suggestion, turn it into a small trophy head. Like "Congrats kid, this is your first time fishing and you caught a fish! Here's a little gold fish to remember it by."
expanding polyurethane gorrila glue wil be bad news I feel unless you don't unmount it untill it's like a rock tgen use air pressure to get behind glue to pop it out
New business there bro. Imagen customer asking for molds for stuff like keychain company logo emblems. Souvenirs and all kinds of things. Everything this days is profitable.
Multiple jointed swimbait! 3 or more pieces, with dimples where you need to drill for your joints and hardware!
I was thinking that’s very useful. Im sure they were already on the same line of thought as well.
Same thing I was going to comment
Yes!
I saw we just make it so the hardware get put onto the mold before you close it then the resin bonds it all into the hard bait!
BINGO!!!
Been doing this to make vacuum form stencils over the hard master. Makes painting details much more pleasant.
I can see the jointed swim bait ideas spinning in my brain now!
Yesss! Same here!
That’s pretty cool. Thanks Jason and Nate for the science lesson!
Haha no problem! We figure we would answer this question before someone destroys their own mold! Worked great but I have a feeling that your mold might be toast without that mold release!
I'm thinking you can drill some holes and put some weight in it, put some eyes on it and give it a go! Nicely done!

The difference between science and screwing around is writing it down.
Well, there is also the scientific method thing. 😉
You guys make some awesome molds
Thank you! Testing our resin for some future projects!
The BEST molds!
I see some huge potential with this approach and application very cool idea. Omg the possibilities are endless.
Pro tip guys. Sprinkling some baby powder on the mold cavity will help demolding much more than those aerosol mold releases.
Thanks for the tip, we will try that out!
There is a Gypsum mould release liquid for dental lab acrylic denture making that might work,
It also breaks surface tension of the resin which helps cut down on any surface bubbles if you aren't pressure casting or anything like that. Dusting molds is really common in prop / costume making.
Finally on RUclips! Thanks guys for your great work!
My channel is going great and I'm totally inspired by you two guys!
Thanks a lot! I owe you much!
Thank you! That is awesome to hear that your channel is going great, keep it up!
This has opened so many beautiful doors of possibilities
Epic details with a resin hard bait then drill hook holes, lip slots, spinners, hybrid hardbody/soft tails?
A lift kit, some low pro tires, and a bangin exhaust!
Marling is here yessss
I call dibs on the first hard bait mold! Will be a perfect addition to my instagram segment "i got no clue what i'm doing, but i'm doing it anyway" :D

bahahahaha
Glad you're finally making some videos
Thanks! Stoked to finally dive in!
Wow that was awesome 😍 mold on! 👍
You could do 1/3 to 1/2 the front hard resin with a soft swimming replaceable tail
If you guys make a jointed resin swim bait mold 🤯 I’m 100 % buying it same day it’s released

I was wondering about this! Awesome Video guys! a Lipless Crankbait mold would be Epic!
Thank you! We agree on the lipless crankbait mold!
Can you do a resin cast for the front and a soft poor for the tail? With a set hook.
We should try that!
I could see roto-molding as an option. Mold halves to be hollow, then insert rattles, flashy stuff(for transparent resin) and other things for crankbaits.
Just gotta make some kind of smaller 2 axis rotary device.
@@EpicBaitMolds Have a few inserts to put in to make different sized internal cavities. Small ones to insert hook hangers etc. larger ones to insert weights even larger to insert rattlers. That’s where this is going!
Wet streaks? I got those one time after some bad chipotle
Hahaha
Could you cut that bait in two or three places to make a jointed swimbait
I think that would work, maybe add a different shaped tail too
@@EpicBaitMolds smooth the tail out like you do when your measuring fish. Film your next video. Title This shouldn't work but it does.... sort of.
Make a mode for a jointed swim bait
Wow that cool fish figure.... count that as sample
I smell some glide bait molds coming soon.
add springs or hinges for hard baits so you have a separate tail and head.
A sander works well to make bubbles rise in resin.
Ahhh yes, like an oscillating sander?
I was curious myself. This is great!! I want to try this on my grave digger jig mold just to see if I can make my swimbaits dive. Thanks for the video!
What about a resin head with soft plastic tail?
1. Nice to see that Tom Keen has found a job after Blacklist
Hahaha we totally understand that idea! Hard body/soft tail!
Comment for the algorithm. Additionally, if you read this, that bait WILL swim, but you would have to "carve" the tail to get rid of the paddle and get it something slimmer. Or cut the tail off completely and add a rear spinner/treble.
Fr
Could you cut the tail section into parts and use swivels between the parts?
I think that would work!

Thank you and we appreciate that! We put a lot of hard work and hours/days of design into each and every mold!
That sick you can duplicate your mold with silicone Version because you can just copy it Great video
You should have done the tail in soft and body in hard to see if they will bond.
Hybrid mould next?
If you hit the aluminum with a heat gun wouldn't it release the bubbles you had mentioned from the resin?
Key ring maybe ? Just a few touches with paint 😁
I have no idea what you could do with that but can I get one of these for every mold you make??? Shoot me a price will ya
this is great! would love to see how it might swim.....as is but you could make a mold with segmented sections....as others have suggested in the comments...let us know when you make it!
Sectional swim baits, minnows, crank baits, top water...all kinds of lures !!!
Still waiting on some lead pouring molds Jason
I know, we are getting there!
Ratio by weight vs. volume?
Amazing well done by the way I'm a big fan of the man and the fishing lure..I subscribed to the channel
Thank you!
Do you have epic bait mold injectors
Try with rubber tail and resin body ?
Could be an option for paddle tails like a whopper plopper or fins to add to wood carved baits.
You should totaly make a full buy list. I would buy hardbait mold

Double jointed swim bait you have to get marling to finish it
I definitely see body baits in the future

Could try and make a crank bait with the lip already cut in the mold
That would be awesome!
those can be masters to make your own molds
Dude you should totally make some molds of marling’s old lipless crank baits or hard swim baits or something.
We are looking into some new designs!
I think it would be dope if you guys used this as a way to make a segmented bait
That’s a good idea
@@EpicBaitMolds thank you, best of luck on that front
use clap to plug your holes, try to degas it after you pore it in
Pouring top waters in the future?
Could make a hard top water bate mold and or your own stile of the Whopper popper
Make a mold of a pencil popper or darter or something like the diawa swimmer. The possibilities are endless
Those would both be awesome!
Why don't you smoke your mold halves with MAPP or acetylene?
I was not expecting that to work
Mek works great with aluminum molds and epoxy
MEK? Methyl Ethyl Keytone?
Yeah where I used to work we would apply small amounts and let it dry if not freyolk works good too but I probably botched the spelling

Agreed!
Dude! You could do the same as your soft baits but make resin crank bait molds!
Heck yes!
Can't vacuum it but you could heat it
Bravo!
these might not swim but they would make great key chains . just a thought
We could use the hard plastic cast to create new silicone 2 part molds so we could pour several at once.
So it does work... for making decorations.
This is an experiment next step is molds meant for hard baits
Haha
I sense new hard bait molds coming up
Hehe
