Lexie Liu was studying in an international school in China. As a rapper, she is the best person of mixing Chinese and English in her lyrics in China for now in my opinion. As for composing, most of her songs are cyberpunk, and some even called hers future music or modern music. Her style is so fantastic that it makes her very popular in young generation in China, however, this makes her harder to become more popular among those people who can't understand English very well. I hope she could write some songs only in one language to make her more popular. Her music and she really deserve it. BTW, she has another very popular song "Mulan" in another channel (ruclips.net/video/FPkg6QnpOYQ/видео.html). I think her Mulan song is the best of all Mulan-related ones.
@@BingDwenDwen still MORE did happen as KDA song and when the artist itself respect it it wouldnt be so much out of mind. you have to remind the fact that lexie got big the same way as soyeon did, also alone with rappin contest. Even though she is quoting Chinese classical pharases, Lexie is saying, which needs no further explanation of course, that Chinese women should reject being constrained by both Chinese AND Western gazes--Zhang Yimou's movie Raise the Red Lantern being a prime example of the combination of the two. On the one hand, there is the backwardness of traditional Chinese societies and the suffering of women in it, i.e. the harem in the movie. On the other hand, the color of red and the image of Cheongsam, nicely captured by the setting of the MV, speak to the exoticism of Asian women in the Western eyes. Kudos to her.
Your point made for the Western exoticism part is pretty vague and weak overall. Not saying that it doesn't exist irl , but in terms of the mv, it just feels like you made up the thesis and couldn't find adequate support to back it up. "Qipao" and "red" really do not say much about the refusing the Western gaze.
@@allenna7314 It's literally the first line, Qipao cut it off. Not that sophisticated a point. Unless you think Lexie uses all the stereotypical "Asian" elements, the color, the dress (Qipao and conical hat), the 1930s Shanghai diva scene only to reinforce, not to undermine them.
@@lairely How does saying qipao cut it off specifically point towards the exoticism of asian women viewed from the Western eyes? You might have a nice idea but your evidence isn't enough support it. It's not a sophisticated point, I agree. It's overly vague. "The color of red and image of Cheongsam" speak to the exoticism? Maybe it does, but how? I might not be able to see as deep as you since you think it doesn't even need any further explanation. "Qipao, cut it off" seems more like a break away from the traditional Chinese woman, which you also agree with. Not sure how you are extrapolating so much from it. Very imaginative.
@@lairely what i'm saying is that I agree the line "qipao cut it off" encourages a break away from the traditional. I don't think color red and image of cheongsam speak specifically to the western gaze at all. If there is something I'm missing then please explain. You are presenting things from the video and then imposing your own ideas on it and acting like it's obvious.
@@malphite8797 i don't see the problem, having in mind that most rappers make music to a specific target audience (spoiler: it is not children, and if they are affected by the songs, it is not the artist's fault, since that was not made for them)

She has a huge fanbase in china, people are supporting her with china’s social media so u couldnt see it haha
Apparently she has around 3 million followers on her weibo, which is basically Chinese twitter I believe
She’s popular in China tho. Most c-pop artists don’t promote widely like Kpop companies do. They kinda stay in their niche area
Facts bro #100👈
china has a lot of cool stuff but no one sees it
Know her since high school, Lexi has been really hard towards her dream, really glad to see her improving year by year. Lexi definitely deserves more recognition and love ❤️❤️❤️
This was bad ass! Love this type of music from Lexie.
She was under 88 rising before until she have her own label. she’s a GEM
Wow, she sounds so beautiful
Please do a collab with Jackson Wang
This giving me pretty pleass vibes
they probably have as a part of the 88rising members, but i'm not sure whether she's left when they did a collab album
AGREEEE OMGGG!!!!
YAAAAAAAS
lmao
I literally love all of Lexies Songs all of them have such a deep meaning and they just never disappoint
真的太喜欢lexie了
really like her part 大红灯笼高高挂 , make me remind of Raise the Red Lantern of Zhangyimao, that film is quite creepy and haunted me for a long time since I watched it, never know one day it will become a line in a rap song. You go girl, i think women rappers in chinese deserve a recognition, you guys have a lot of cultural material can mix with modern music
i wish i found her earlier like deadass. i love these type of music and lexie really out here having no bad songs in her recent album omg. looks like I found new fav artist yeye
I love the color schemes in her videos with orange, red, and blue and incorporating fire since she's a fire sign 💜
This woman is in a league of her own
I am seriously in love with the way you always ALWAYS manage to create something unique. Your sound is unmatched and unlike any other to me. You''re incredibly underrated in my opinion, PERIOD
Lol I’m a carat but Ive already known about Lexie way before Vernon recommend this song but I’m still happy that carats are discovering Lexie, she is really underrated and deserves lots of love. Anyway stream home run by Seventeen and Manta by Lexie liu for clear skin!!!

Cheongsam landing Cut it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high in front of the door
Cheongsam Cut it it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high
Raise the red lantern
Wearing a cheongsam and stepping across the aisle
Raise the red lantern
The girl walked through the hurdles in a cheongsam
I use lacquer smoke and ink to outline you
Overriding the rules and coloring you
You dance and recite that colored glaze is fragile and colorful clouds fly
Leaping on paper
I’ll let you decide
The shackles are all broken
Baby I do it like this now
Set it all on fire
Workin’ day by day
Edges and corners for embellishment, no need to hide
Kappa girl, I got my own back
Cheongsam landing Cut it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high in front of the door
Cheongsam Cut it it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high
Raise the red lantern
Wearing a cheongsam and stepping across the aisle
Raise the red lantern
The girl walked through the hurdles in a cheongsam
Fan, jade plate, beautiful like a flower across the clouds
I’ll meet you on the flip side, flip side
Overloaded pocket, I spend it how I like it
I got my own back, yeah
I know you’re watching me
Go up, ain’t no stoppin’
Baby imma start
Set it all on fire
Reject the mediocre rebellion, the flames gather in the ocean and tremble
Ain’t gon do what you wish now,
Happy half of the country
A beautiful lady in the south, Rong Hua is like a peach and plum
There are beautiful women in the north, peerless and independent
Cheongsam landing Cut it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high in front of the door
Cheongsam Cut it it off
Chinese girl Boss it up
I don't want to see the red lanterns hanging high
Raise the red lantern
Wearing a cheongsam and stepping across the aisle
Raise the red lantern
The girl walked through the hurdles in a cheongsam
THANK YOU!!! She needs to drop this on Aussie spotify.
@@amongstllamas yaaa!
Aww much thanks!!
She’s absolutely amazing her sound is unique and mesmerizing 😍😍

Imagine Soyeon (akali) rapping in Korean and Lexie (Seraphine) in chinese, would buy 100%
would be baddas ngl
Koreans are too conservative to let that happen, they hating on Seraphine just because she is singing in chinese
would be SICKENING!!!
@@BingDwenDwen still MORE did happen as KDA song and when the artist itself respect it it wouldnt be so much out of mind. you have to remind the fact that lexie got big the same way as soyeon did, also alone with rappin contest. So even if the koreans are too conservative the song isnt made in korea it is made in america, so still not that big out of mind.
for me i think its sad bcs soyeon is allowed to rap but she isnt, i jsut see egoism in it if its bcs of koreans conservative. we aint livin in the old dynastys these days
這首真的太厲害了⋯⋯⋯
很抓耳也很有意涵😳
非常好聽!!!!
No idea what this genre would be considered but I absolutely love it. Thanks for working with Riot, so glad they introduced us to you.
@@allenna7314 read the last sentence again.
I love it when i randomly find fire music
Checking this out, mainly because Vernon posted it in Weverse 😍 but i can say that her music is really good. 💞

@@malphite8797 ew, imagine insulting someone just because you don't like the genre of music they make
@@mustachecake8071 Imagine flexing on children in every song you make.
@@malphite8797 i don't see the problem, having in mind that most rappers make music to a specific target audience (spoiler: it is not children, and if they are affected by the songs, it is not the artist's fault, since that was not made for them)
@@malphite8797 it's the same as bashing movie directors for making gory scenes, because it will have an affect on children, they should not be seeing it, and it is the responsibility of their parents/whomever is in charge of them to draw the line

She will always be Mulan in my heart 🥺🥺🥺
The title means “Beauty” and these lyrics takes chinese poems and also refers to the film “Raise the Red Lantern” in the refrain part
The lantern symbolizes the destiny of the woman, so she sings “I don’t want to see the lanterns raised up”
The music video shows in modern time, a buffet of wedding,
The girl who will make up before the wedding, then with the traditional red tissue over the head, but she decided to run away by taking others clothes, and she runs away by taking the train (?)
The laterns are a reference to a chinese movie, which symbolises traditions imposed on women.
