This is a reuploaded version of a previous video with some corrections. The previous video incorrectly suggested that Annapurna (and the ex-staff) were involved in development rather than publishing. Thanks for watching it again!
No it wasn't, we didn't even finish cleaning that up. It was so much of an issue to clean up we just buried it under a metal dome and chose to worry about it in 100 years and see if we can deal with it then.
Investment firm buying a failing bussiness always means only one thing. They'll get surgically cut up and sold for as much profit as the investment firm can get.
I'm not holding my breath at this Point, something tells me they are going to demand more Money from those of us that already got Shafted by Take 2/2K Games; and I'm not here for it.
Why not, but KSA and it's developer are already doingtheir own take on a KSP successor, and they have a lot of former KSP devs, modders and the OG HarvestR working on that one!
Thought I was crazy for a moment. Original video went offline while I was in the middle of watching it. Cannot say I have ever experienced that before. Thanks for the clarification.
I'll keep an eye on it but I'm a bit more hopeful about Kitten Space Agency. If one of the two does well I'll be happy. If they both do well that would be amazing. Ksp deserves better than the legacy it's been left with.
Yeah, there's essentially no point continuing KSP2. At this point everyone who would care to buy it knows it's a reskin of the KSP1 code. What they _can_ do is reuse models and assets for a KSP3, coded from the ground up in a newer engine to be the best functioning game it could be.
I want to believe. Would love for some competent devs to take over KSP 2 and will buy it in a heartbeat. Previous team was a joke and deserved everything that happened to them.
It would be surprising to me if anyone just picked up the pieces and tried to finish what was there. It seems like a portion of the problems that led to the demise were in the technology/code itself so it seems like any wise purchasers would be "starting over" to some degree.
You cant save what is fundamentally broken from the core of the game. Add on top the lost of faith of the players after seen 2 teams disbanded for ksp2. Nah, I will focus more on KSA development.
To me the continued silence is concerning. If they'd decided to restart development on KSP2 there would be no reason to keep it secret - even if they were still looking for a developer it would make more sense to announce that. So I think they realistic options are either they've decided to do nothing, or they've decided to start a new title and aren't ready to announce, or they haven't decided. But if they want any chance of resurrecting the franchise they’re going to need to engage with the community extensively and very transparently. A month of silence is not a good start.
I dunno, it has been only two months since the sale, right? I guess as a new legal entity there is a lot to work through just to settle down and get everything together. I'd say the dev team has every intention of working with KSP. But perhaps it's just too early to say if they can really get into the KSP2 code and or if their Knowhow is unsuitable. Considering that they have with Outer Wilds a brilliant space game under their belt, I'd be surprised if they did nothing with KSP at all.
The only thing they've done so far is license the Kerbal IP to a model rocket company. Also there is no dev team, the people from Annapurna Interactive were a publishing group not devs. They published Outer Wilds which was made by Mobius Digital.
I'd rather a month of silence and then solid information rather than a bunch of claims they can't back up (maybe I'm biased since I've been a Star Citizen backer since early 2013)
maybe they could make it a free dlc where you launch into the new game but you can just click like a "Play Legacy Kerbal Space Programm 2" button if you want to go back
To be honest, I still have so much of the original to explore. Play it by waves and when I do... I do. With mods and stuff, if we never get a KSP 2, I think it is worth it as a cautionary tale of CEOs meddling in things they don't understand. The guys who bought the rights were looking at it as the next Minecraft. Imagine that. The nerdiest, most math intensive game (I graduated in Physics/Applied Mathematics with a minor in Astrophysics) ever... Yeah... Minecraft.
I spent fifty quid on KSP2 with an expectation that it would give us more than KSP 1. We got less, it's still at less, and I don't have faith the property will ever be handled well anymore.
Thanks for sharing some more details about the new owners. This is definitely interesting news, but I'm afraid I can't share your optimism. A substantial proportion of the KSP 2 sales already happened following the early access release. There have also been reports that there are significant problems with the KSP 2 codebase, and that the team has focussed on graphics and UI, rather than on solving the technical challenges required to implement colonies, interstellar travel, and multiplayer. All indications are that a fresh start is necessary. The game has very poor reviews on Steam, and this another obstacle as noted in the video. I am very skeptical that any team would try to rescue something that would be so difficult and expensive to rescue, while there is no obvious significant earning potential. Meanwhile, anyone crawling from under a rock after a one year hibernation, heading straight to the KSP 2 store page on Steam could be excused for believing that the game is still under active early access development by Intercept Games, and published by Private Division. This does not bode well for expectations of honest communication by the new owners.
I looked into it, It's all a bit strange. It reads to me like the owner of Annapurna Megan Ellison, daughter of billionaire Larry Ellison, was playing off her managers against each other till the main guy up and left with the whole team lol.
From all we know about KSP 2, it is so bad it's not worth spending effort on, except maybe extract some graphics for use in a future game. Better still would be to sell the KSP IP back to HarvesteR.
Ehh, it's like your drunkard dad walked out to buy cigarettes and never came back - then you got a new stepdad who seems like a really nice guy... and then your real dad comes back. I don't know if I want him anymore, you know? If I was in charge of Annapurna, I'd probably offer Rocketwerkz to use the Kerbal IP for free, or very cheaply - thereby giving KSA (or rather, KSP 2.5 or whatever they'd call it) a greater chance to reach a large audience and restore credibility to the Kerbal brand. It wouldn't cost Annapurna anything, it wouldn't cost Rocketwerkz anything, and in the end they'd have a more valuable IP which they can use to make other Kerbal games in the future.
Lots of senior programmers for this project left. They are using a custom built engine. For the new team members, this means figuring out a very complicated code base, well enough to implement changes, add and improve existing features and fix bugs. This is at least as difficult, if not a lot more, than a graduate engineering course. Keep in mind, they don't have books to rely on. Together with the trend of modern software developers being absolutely terrible because of heavy reliance on existing engines, libraries and technology (that's why many AAA studios adopted the Unreal Engine 5), your only source of optimism is that the KSP franchise may be too hard to just give up on. (So yeah, it's over)
Why does reliance on existing technology mean software developers are terrible? There are good solutions for many problems out there, not using them is not somehow a benefit. Of course looking into this kind of codebase would be difficult, but this would be just as true for someone who has worked with Unity vs. someone who developed their own framework for games, because engines can handle things very differently internally. The one aspect that might help is extensive experience with games from the same genre. In this case, simulation of physics on different scales, complex timescale simulations as well as dynamic component systems would likely be some of the things that might be helpful.
still dnk know what they did there. how could they fail on franchise like KSP it's basically a money printing license so many people wait for the end of EA and these people are not kids with low income and they mess it up unbelievable.
You can only be optimistic about this if you're a very, very stupid person. I'm not lying when I say I have more respect for people still waiting for Half-Life 3
If they aren’t going to continue development they need to release the source code and all unfinished content. Give the community a chance to fix the game somewhat.

Chernobyl was an easier mess to clean up.
No it wasn't, we didn't even finish cleaning that up. It was so much of an issue to clean up we just buried it under a metal dome and chose to worry about it in 100 years and see if we can deal with it then.
@@garethlawton5278 that's their point.
@@broqbox he wasnt making that point though, he was being hyperbolic
Lol what a way to not get a joke guys 😂 good one
@@garethlawton5278What is your malfunction?
Investment firm? Myeah.... I'll keep my optimism reserved.
Investment firm buying a failing bussiness always means only one thing. They'll get surgically cut up and sold for as much profit as the investment firm can get.
Good news, boys! KSP2 is being liquidated!
I'm not holding my breath at this Point, something tells me they are going to demand more Money from those of us that already got Shafted by Take 2/2K Games; and I'm not here for it.
Unless they figure out a way to refund us first, there's no way in damnation anyone is getting a single more cent from me for KSP2.
From private division to private equity 💀
I want public disclosure
Why not, but KSA and it's developer are already doingtheir own take on a KSP successor, and they have a lot of former KSP devs, modders and the OG HarvestR working on that one!
Is it Kitten Space Agency? or another one?
Thought I was crazy for a moment. Original video went offline while I was in the middle of watching it. Cannot say I have ever experienced that before.
Thanks for the clarification.
I had it happen to me a few times. It's always a little disturbing somehow 🙃
I'll keep an eye on it but I'm a bit more hopeful about Kitten Space Agency.
If one of the two does well I'll be happy. If they both do well that would be amazing.
Ksp deserves better than the legacy it's been left with.
Am I the only one here , that really want this game to be finished , because its already a very good game , and I actually love it as it is right now.
I’m not ready to hope yet. I’ll need something more concrete before I take that step.
this is honestly the best direction things could be going after the ip being sold
While I'm not optimistic about further development of KSP2 itself, I do believe another game in the Kerbal Space Program universe will be developed!
Yeah, there's essentially no point continuing KSP2. At this point everyone who would care to buy it knows it's a reskin of the KSP1 code.
What they _can_ do is reuse models and assets for a KSP3, coded from the ground up in a newer engine to be the best functioning game it could be.

No game deserves a proper sequel more than KSP
Agreed, it's criminal what's happened to the second game given what a labour of love ksp was.
You cant save what is fundamentally broken from the core of the game. Add on top the lost of faith of the players after seen 2 teams disbanded for ksp2. Nah, I will focus more on KSA development.
annapurna interactive is a very interesting twist

There's a common problem with a lot of developing games. Programmers and modelers are not getting paid.
maybe they could make it a free dlc where you launch into the new game but you can just click like a "Play Legacy Kerbal Space Programm 2" button if you want to go back
doesn't matter who makes it, i'm not pre-ordering and i'll wait on reviews

I doubt there's any saving this game. It's built on a foundation of technical debt, it would probably be easier to start over from scratch.
Best case senario , 2 interns and 1 employee work on the game part time , fixing minor bugs for a year at best
That is Cool I had looked forward to an New Kerbal Space Game I enjoyed the first.👍Best of Luck to them.
Greetings from bish vegas County Durham happy new year, I couldn’t believe it the first time, fingers crossed 🤞
Didn’t I just watch this hours ago? Oh immediately I realize it’s a Reupload

Agreed. I think it more likely for a whole new game based on the Kerbal universe is more likely, if anything at all.
If its an investment firm kt means they believe they can make money off the game. If they dont it will be sold off again.
i think ksp should stay a one hit wonder..like so many other games are..
Idk why they need a ksp 2. Just update or sell dlc for tge first game.
Investment firm purchase gives me no real hope of it being what it was meant to be. Guess I will wait on kittens.
To be honest, I don't think KSP Two is still salvageable in any way. What it needs at this point is a KSP Nwo.
If they did this to games that never met an early access release then I would be impressed but for now I’m not really hyped 😢
Have I been saying Anapurna wrong all this time? I thought it was Ana-poo-rna and not Ana-pew-rna.
Is former staff members a good idea? Why did the original company implode in the first place? I still wouldn’t buy it until it’s in much better shape
I looked into it, It's all a bit strange. It reads to me like the owner of Annapurna Megan Ellison, daughter of billionaire Larry Ellison, was playing off her managers against each other till the main guy up and left with the whole team lol.

They could also refund ksp2 for everybody and continue ksp 1
