I love how in depth your videos are. So many beatmaking videos and mixing videos are legitimately terrible because they don’t like to go in depth about the actual steps there are to making a beat. They’ll just start with a sample, skip the entire processsing…process and then skip how they developed the drums. There is nothing to learn from that. I watch these videos to expand my process and see how other people approach it, not just to hear an end product. The only way you will ever learn more about beatmaking and making beats sound like full songs is from the ground up. There is so much that goes into making something sound professional, and it’s more than just pushing shit into a clipper like half of these “tutorials” will tell you. Anyway, keep up the good shit.
Yo fam I feel its so important to really show you what I'm doing ya know! Even if you don't follow it 100% its good to know why I'm doing something and I don't really have much to hide, I share what I find ya know! Thanks for showing love homie! look out for the next video..... dropping some more... knxwledge
SIMPLE STUFF! A lot of times i feel we get in the mindset something has to be complicated complex or expensive to achieve great results when sometimes thats so far from the case!
dope tutorial! you tapped into something i had heard knx say during a beat review on his twitch, which was "Y'all need to let y'all beats breathe more". Having those gaps where there's no sample and just drums or just a vocal chop creates that anticipation for when it comes back in. Another thing i've learned from remaking knx's stuff is that his drums a're usually on the grid except the hi hats are usually a bit delayed. A great deal of what we assume is drum swing is how his drums mesh with the sample. On "Suede", you can hear how the first few bars are on beat but then the timestretched Gil Scott Heron sample falls off time and gives a feel that wouldn't be there if the sample was quantized to fit the loop. so[rt] has an interesting pocket because of the delayed hats but also because the sample is in 6/4 and knx found a perfect place to sample and just let it play while he added drums.
Fam insane! You hit the nail on the head. While I incorporate some amount of swing in all my beats the obsession with SWING SWING SWING MORE SWING SWING THIS SWING THAT bruh lmaoo 😂. It's funny if you swing everything nothings really swung is it? Also you can swing the hell outta your beats and they can still sound hotdog water 😂. Buy yes you must let your beat breathe it is vital, it's like you're teasing the listener.. lmao gotta edge the ears 💀... don't quote me plz. I'm glad you diggin the vids, I've def peeped your remakes in the past good shits fasho. Remaking beats are tuff especially when your trying to emulate aliens man... good stuff! 💯
dope video my guy 😮💨 just one more technique that I think is super underrated and it's used in a lot of knxwledge beats, it's a really suttle sidechain on the kick onto the overall track, it makes the song more wavy and dynamic
Thanks homie!! You know everyone keeps pointing this out! Almost 100% of my beats I'm sidechaining my kicks to the sample. I used to use FL Studios stock limiter but now I use Vulf Compressor. I'll def make sure to mention that part I usually do it out of habit these days and don't think to talk about it! Thanks for the input!
@@JayDAndre If you could do a tutorial on this sidechain trick it would be dope. I am trying to learn a good sidechain technique to apply on my beats. Keep it up homie 🥋🔥
Another thing to note is that knxwledge uses rbass on tbe master which is a bass emulation plugin, and i think probably one of the main key points to making a warm mix
RBass is a solid plugin! But to be honest you can get that with a lot of plugins. The main key I feel is getting that analog warmth you know so many ways to get it fasho! Good insight fam!
I appreciate that fam! No secrets over here it's crazy how unique you can make things sound with subtle changes.. small nuances really can swing ya whole beat! Thanks for stoppin thru!
Great video bro, I gained so much value from this I can use in my own production! Please make another part or even a beat where you make a beat like this from scratch!

Wow... amazing!😯 You're really talented bro. Thank you so so much for putting this in depth tutorial out for free! I got so bored of making trap to the point I got bored of making beats at all. But most hip-hop tutorials I come across are all about making trap. So it's really refreshing to see content like this. It gave me new energy, I really feel like making beats and trying out experimental stuff again.
Damn fam means a lot! Yeah you gotta switch it up no matter what you're making ya know! It'll make you more well rounded anyway! 😌🙌🏾 thanks for engaging homie!
This is a great beat! I will say: on the mixing... Look into gain staging. You should be normalizing quiet signals like those before running them through plugins. Youll have waaaay better final production quality. Plus, you dont have to turn your system all the way up when making your beat. Seriously dope beat though.
You are 100% correct on the gain staging it can really make things easier lol. To be honest for these beats I've been making and mixing them like i was making it on a 404 or mpc focusing on the master. I did very minimal tweaks to individual sounds. Good stuff for pointing that out! Thanks for engaging fam! 🙌🏾
ive been making beats like this for years & i love knxwledge but timeline wise i would say I was heavily influenced by dilla, exile, alchemist + AFTA 1 to get this sound.
Hell yeah fam! Behind every great producer is a line of incredible producers, I'm sure he was inspired by some of those guys too! Dilla 4sho! Can't wait to see the producers Knx helps inspire really come up! Thanks for comin thru!

hey man! great video, i loved it and loved your mentality as well. my only suggestion would be to maybe move the mic or compress it a little bit because when you speak and move your head it gets a lot quieter and i had to turn up the volume to hear you but when you played the beat i had to turn it down again. thank you for this video again, hope to see more from you!

Thanks my g! Actually i didn't naturally speed it up at all! I just pitched it up and played a different progression to match with the drums. When u make subtle differences they seem monumental in the long run! I gotchu fam!
@@JayDAndre Bett you inspired me to download FL again. If you don't mind how much did you pitch up the 2nd loop by in comparison to the first loop? I worded my question wrong lol
Niceeee. Just for Future video request.. u should talk about enhancing the bass from a sample , mixing and eq’in tricks to just enhancing what the sample is already giving you baseline wize…I thought it was gonna be one of the 5 lol.. but it’s all good .. that number 4 is it though.. major key… keep it coming bro .. much ❤
You might hear this often but two good tips! Follow to root notes! And use your ear! Sometimes to make it easier I'll use a eq to isolate the bass to hear it then I will try to replicate it or add my own spin on it. after eqing out the original bass. Find the key and use notes in the scale to make a bass line. Start it off simple and add a little razzle dazzle here and there! Good question!
Dope Video and Beat! One thing I‘m confused with is you showing significant High-Boost on the master but then saying „cut some Highs to get that warm sound“ 🤔
Thanks homie! I'm glad you was feeling it! About that I put a lot or processing that cut highs using analog emulation but you can go another route and just cut some highs to warm the signal too! I was adding some in cause I took out a lot!
First and foremost, I love your content and how you break things down. I'm more hands on with the MPC X SE, and KO2 among others, but I'm taking time to dive into DAWs.. I have Serato Studio, but I'm leaning towards Abelton or FL, is FL a difficult DAW to learn?? Much love and respect fam!🙏🏾✊🏾💚
My guy I appreciate all the kind words! Believe it or not i never touched mpc in my life. Just never been around one. So forever I always wanted one cause I thought that was how you make the type of beats I love. Then I learned it's not about the tool.. it's the creator and the creativity. I been a DAW warrior forever and even after having a sp 404 mk 2 sp 303 ko ii maschine micro I love the computer the most. Fl I feel is very user friendly but everything comes with it's own challenges! Big ups homie!
@JayDAndre I'm an Oldhead, and been an Emcee since '86, and transitioned to making beats 5yrs ago, and I've definitely learned that the artist makes it work with anything! Gonna check out the trial version of FL, because I definitely want to get more into the DAWs. Appreciate you homie!!! Keep shining my brother!🙏🏾✊🏾💚
It could be! Or automation too! Theres honestly so many ways to get the same outcome ya know. I think having so many routes for the same conclusion is what gives us the chance to really have our own flavor and find our sig sound too!
@@JayDAndreyes definitely. I dont get the impression he’s someone who likes to do tedious automation editing in Live. Rather do takes with some sort of custom rack.
great video, i've been searching for the name of the beat in the intro, can someone name it please, the one with the flute thing, i'd really appreciate it
Thanks homie! In this beat i opted for subtle changes in swing by swinging a couple kicks rather than em all that way it adds a layer of spontaneity. But if you listen close I those hats on a different continent 😂. Appreciate the feedback fam!
@@Barney-ii1no I wouldn't say he got his style from Dilla, for sure was inspired you can tell! But you can hear a lot of influences im his musoc fasho. From Beatmakers, Jazz Artists, Rnb artists etc! But to name a couple other maybe Metal Fingers, I can for sure hear the Fly Lo! Madlib definitely especially with his avant garde style!
Yeah! I would assume he does both ya know! It really depends on the vibe, I'll def tell you try both it can def lead to interesting outcomes! Starting with drums might make finding sample patterns easier, while starting with the sample might make it easier to make the drum groove sound more natural and resonate with the sample a bit more! Happy chopping fam! Glad you're here! 💯
I heard those kick rolls and immediately though... oh thats that jersey flavor. Look up Knxwledge on wikipedia and sure enough he was born in New Jersey. I bet he had some of that NJ Club sound leak in there.
I'll be honest really light eq, I took out some low end probably from 0-100 hertz and just slight dipped the mids to highs to give a warm sound. Experiment with it, depends on the vibe of the track. Challenge yourself to only use 3 bands of eq. Sometimes I think we go overboard on eq when we have to option to do so! Great question!
Great question family! So in this beat i actually enhanced the bass in the sample and filled out the lower end with a some texture to make it richer in the bass frequencies. Sometimes i play the bass.. sometimes i use what i already got! All depends on the vibe! Thanks for comin thru! 🙌🏾
Yo homie I got a video I want you to check out! It's called "You'll Never Be Dilla" please peep that! It goes into deeper detail, but really through these videos and examples it's all practice! The same way basketball players would emulate their heroes games, and model themselves after their influences. Not to be a carbon copy but to learn what makes them tick ya know. Think Magic Johnson/LeBron Tatum/Kobe Curry/Nash ya know! We're here to learn and evolve and you learn from watching the greats. You are a sum of your inspirations! That what makes you YOU! Thanks homie! I'm glad you was feeling it! About that I put a lot or processing that cut highs using analog emulation but you can go another route and just cut some highs to warm the signal too! I was adding some in cause I took out a lot!
@@JayDAndre ah I see. Thanks :)
Serato is a game changer
Bro I never looked back I promise u!
Amazing tutorial bro 💪🫡
Yoo homie good lookin out you been making 🔥 i remember freestylin to your shit years ago! Much love!
bro spillin the lupin ost sauce
Maneee we've had that lil gem for yeeeaars! 😂 wait till they hear Hiro....
I'm new to the Lupin sauce game
@@randomnewspaper Well welcome my g! I'll put it this way... anything Yuji Ohno touches is gold.
if you wrote that comment like 7 years ago it would make more sense, oh no's stuff has done been rinsed and used
It seems like Knx uses some sort of gate effect for his vocals ‘fading in and out’ his tracks organically.
@@anatolianINVASION word up on that!
Nice! Do you have a mixing/mastering course?
I don't but I can def make a video on my process for sure!
Tight🔥
Preesh mah boi 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
great video, i've been searching for the name of the beat in the intro, can someone name it please, the one with the flute thing, i'd really appreciate it
Thank u fam! Actually that beat came from my "How to Make Adult Swim Bumps Type Beat" video. I made it! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
@@JayDAndre thanks man you rule
Nah fam u rule! @Chamerli
The chop and beat are chill, but if you’re going for something like that, you need more swing in the beat! Gotta get off the grid
Thanks homie! In this beat i opted for subtle changes in swing by swinging a couple kicks rather than em all that way it adds a layer of spontaneity. But if you listen close I those hats on a different continent 😂. Appreciate the feedback fam!
not many point out that he got his style from dilla
@@Barney-ii1no I wouldn't say he got his style from Dilla, for sure was inspired you can tell! But you can hear a lot of influences im his musoc fasho. From Beatmakers, Jazz Artists, Rnb artists etc! But to name a couple other maybe Metal Fingers, I can for sure hear the Fly Lo! Madlib definitely especially with his avant garde style!
11:25 sample
Yuji Ohno Lupin the 3rd Track i forget exactly which one
I didn't know he chopped samples first lol. All my buddies do their drums first. I also chop my samples first and find the pocket for the drums.
Bro tell me why I never put 2 and 2 together i knew he was from Jersey I didnt even think abouy that. Good point homie! I hope u dug the video 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
He from freehold nj fs
The drum stuff is classic timbaland influence
Fax! Also someone pointed out his drums might be influenced by his hometown in New Jersey too! Really percussive and loose!
Fireeee
My g thank u! 🙌🏾
ur a goated for using fruity loops for this sort of music, thank u, FL gang
FL GANG TILL I DIE ❤️❤️🥭
amazing tutorial my guy... also you kinda look like LeVar Burton from reading rainbow and star trek 😂😂
😂😂😂 bro lmao thats a first.. hey "the more you know" but good looks homie thanks for coming thru!
use a different kick in the kickroll for the setup
Aye you on to somethin 😈🔥
Sounding like Iman Omari lol, nice!
Broooo shhhhhhhh! Dont spoil the surprise 👀👀
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Glizzy what's good!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 thanks for stopping by homie! What a stream today tho right!
thanks for this video! yea, todays stream with dibiase was wild. all yalls beats were 🔥, looking forward to next thursday.
@glizzyhendrix fasho famo! Def got more on the way! And yeah I can't wait for the next flip session!
How did you eq the sample? Dope video!
@@JayDAndre dope! Yeah I’ve always struggled with eq on samples but the stems features help
@@floydland3509 fasho! Gotta use all tools at your arsenal!
Too much Gems on here
Aye man I'm trying to show love! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
awesome
Good stuff huh?! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
What did u put on kick + did u use drum bus
I don't go crazy on single sounds maybe a bit of transient shaping a bit of eq.. my drum bus is full of compression analog emulation and color!
how yall be grabbing songs from yt?
RUclips to mp3 converter!
how did u craft ur bass line? Or did u just use the bassline from the sample?
Great question family! So in this beat i actually enhanced the bass in the sample and filled out the lower end with a some texture to make it richer in the bass frequencies. Sometimes i play the bass.. sometimes i use what i already got! All depends on the vibe! Thanks for comin thru! 🙌🏾
As producers we gotta stop making videos on how to sound like other producers. Be you King. Express your own voice. Respectfully.
Think Magic Johnson/LeBron Tatum/Kobe
Curry/Nash ya know! We're here to learn and evolve and you learn from watching the greats. You are a sum of your inspirations! That what makes you YOU! Thank you for engaging homie, please keep peeping the vids and engaging! 💯🙌🏾
