Personally, I think Olympus makes the most sexy looking lenses in the industry. They perform as good as they look too. I only have two right now. the 45 1.8 and the 7-14 2.8 Pro. Fantastic Lenses.
Thanks John for watching! They do, don't they. I do like the rendering of Olympus lenses, very unique, especially the Pro lenses, I definitely dig them!!
Thank you very much for such great explanation of the lense and putting it into a low light environment. Excatly what I was searching. I'm looking for a replacement of my Sigma 16mm 1.4 that I used on a Sony a6400. While it is a bit narrower, I found myself cropping a lot of the old images. So I might give this one a try. It is really amazing seeing your consistent dedication to your work, as I just realised the video is from three years ago. Thank you very much!
Jimmy, Jimmy.... Do me a favor (yeah, just for me) and cut the volume of the music by 50% (twice as loud as talking, bugs me) and then on the static images, show the settings (ISO, Shutter, Aperture), because that is educational too. Nitpicks aside, another good review related to a lens and it has some beauty and comic relief in there too. Good job, great lens, a tick below in "love" for me over the 45mm one too.
Thanks Craig for your kind comment. We will monitor this for sure as striking a balance is important between voice and in-between music. A good idea on settings :)
Thanks for explaining the virtues of the 17mm for environmental portraits. I have a 17mm 1.8 but have not thought to use it in this manner. Hard not to take great portraits of Ms. Meredith with her remarkable beauty and lovely personality, but I see now how bringing the surroundings into the frame gives a sense of place. Very 😎.
Thanks Craig! Much appreciated your comment and support! Indeed, I’ve been using a variety form of 35mm full frame lenses throughout my career and I just love this focal length. Great to get the surrounding in to feel where you’ve been!
Very nice review with great examples of what this lens can do. Love the bokeh this lens produces, especially in the black and white conversions. Definitely my favourite of the three new Olympus primes.
love 17mm angle and picture you took in the video! Should I buy 17pro or 1025 in 2020? I have pan body, and like to have 1025 to replace other prime lens, seem able to save the trouble of changing lens for me. But not sure how does it perform in real world, does 1.2 and 1.7 for m43 make a big difference for portrait? same 17mm. I know 1025 is bigger and heavier, it's also what I concern...
As good as the 10-25, I would recommend 17mm pro for portrait. It does make a difference id DoF and also low light ability. 10-25 is a phenomenal lens but for me, it's great for video ore than photos. And yes, that thing weights a ton :)
@@Red35Photography Just got the 17 1.2, absolutely loved it! great build quality, crazy sharpness and beautiful bokeh! Thanks again for your video and recommend!
Random question... if this lens is stopped down to f4... is there a difference in character between this and the 12-40 pro at 17mm f4... perhaps a softer feel... I love the pro zooms but sometimes I find them a little too sharp maybe very slightly harsh... (this could of course be my imagination) any thoughts...
Wow! I didn't realise our Charli had such a prolific career behind and in front of the camera! Kudos! Please can someone tell me what the ambient music is on this vid? And - great review, very useful. Many thanks, yet again.
Just jumped on the "free Pro prime with Em1ii " deal. Having a hard time trying to decide between the 17 and 25. Both of your videos on these lenses are great. And Charlie is such a great personality.
@@Red35Photography indeed. I've decided on the 17 , it's more a favourite focal length (my favourite lens in the whole system is the 15/1.7). Plus, I have the Sigma 30/1.4 in that "normal" range, which is itself a pretty fast aperture and a very nice lens.
Great review, new in the m43 world (as 30+ years Pentax user). Don't know if the credits for this video goes for the lens or straight to Charli. Think I love them both :)
Does it make any sense to buy this lens for landscape shots if you already own the Oly 12-40 pro lens? Thanks, Mark. P.s. love your model companion. She seems like a fun person to be around.
I've only just 'discovered' your channel, and I love it! Although I actually use Panasonic bodies - G80 and GX80 - I am a great fan of Olympus lenses, and they form the backbone of my lens collection.
Thanks Keith!!! Much appreciated your support!! Yeah, I simply love the Olympus lenses and well, I do prefer the styling of Olympus cameras myself over Panasonic, though at the moment, they are better in the video spec. Hopefully, one day Olympus can match the video specs as Olympus and that will make my day! Mind you, we are perfectly happy with the EM-1 Mark II videos (we use it to film all our RUclips videos !!!) but if it has better features like log files and higher frame rate etc, then it will enhance our work dramatically!
Red35 Photography I owned two OMD EM5s at one time, and loved everything about them, except for one thing. They only offered a video frame rate of 30fps, and I need to have a 25fps 1080i option to maintain compatibility with archive footage that my company uses.
Yes totally understand. Mark III should be out soon and I am quite eager to see if they can up the video game! I have no doubt on their photographic capability now and if they smash that in video, then, they will have a winning camera!
The olly pro 40-150mm f2.8 and Olly 75mm F1.8 is my bread and butter lenses even though I have an A7 iii and G Master glass. There is something about a Panasonic G9 combined with Olympus PRO M/43 lenses. I just love it.
Yes any of these 1.2 Pro lenses are great. As for landscape photography, that depends on how you shoot your photos. Do you like to see more in your fame or into details? If you use 45mm, you may need to stop down a lot more or photostack to get the depth of field you need, unless you want subject separations.
@@Red35Photography Thank you for your speedy reply. I’ve got the 40/150 pro so I’m wondering if the 17mm pro would be good for my needs. I like shooting with foreground and some blared backgrounds. I guess I do like quite a lot in the frame for landscape. I’ve used the 20 mm Panasonic fix lens for years, up until now - since upgrading to the om1, I just want two lens that I can do most with at the start.
Great review, I have been waiting for details review as I am very confused on purchasing either 45mm, 25mm or 17mm. You have given good comparisons since I am beginner. Thanks Jimmy for providing excellent sample photos and video clips. I like to have the background seen to remember the place it was shot.
Thanks Nizar for watching our video. Glad you enjoyed our other videos and yes the 17mm is definitely great for absorbing the background into the frame :)
Heavy price tag, but that being said: The m43-cameras are just getting better and better, so the nice results from these will be competitive for decades.
Great review (episode) as always! I love the footage too, amazed by how good the Olympus video footage is, since people usually only talk about Panasonic when it comes to video.
Leica Dad Thanks mate!!! Much appreciated! Yes, more to come from Olympus and I guarantee that!! Yes, people always look for the obvious but forget that there are other companies who also does good cameras. There’s little doubt that Olympus is on the right track too. Lenses? Well, Olympus has been doing medical lenses for decades (just like Leica) and they are known for the quality so they know what they are doing. As a Leica guy myself, I appreciate good lenses :)
Red35 Photography that’s good to know, I feel Olympus’ lenses always produce more characters compare to Panasonic’s. However, you are a great photographer, that might have more to do with how your pictures came out beautiful!
Aww, thanks mate. That means a lot to me personally but Tracey did a good job filming these awesome videos too. Charli is a great character and beautiful, it's a team effort for this presentation. Really appreciate that comment about characters because as you know, being a Leica shooter, we look for the feel of the lens and how things are render and we value the overall aesthetics as well as sharpness and other important elements. Olympus lenses deliver that in my opinion. Panasonic does have some cool lenses but they are very 'modern' and aiming for the more general/consumer feel than the 'trained' eyes. But that's my opinion and people may disagree :)
Red35 Photography I completely agree, even though I only own Panasonic(I started with GF1) lenses but I alway like Olympus’ more. Like you said, leica shooter usually not looking for perfection (by image science standards). You are very humble, and yes you do have a great team, the chemistry is always good between you and guest host/model. One off topic but serious question, 🤔 how are you able to work with all these beautiful models without your wife being jealous? I need some tips to convince my wife 😂
LOL 😂 I am a professional and work 'professionally'. I have other photographer friends who constantly photographing stunning models from around the world! What I do is really nothing compare to them ahahah. Jokes aside, when I shoot people, I do want to extract every bit of their beauty in front of the lens, both outside and inside, that's my goal.
Great video as always! I was wondering if you could make a comparison video on the 17mm f1.2 and the new Sigma 16mm f1.4 for mft (since a lot of folks are looking into it as a possible cheap alternative)? Thanks :)
Thanks Timothy!!! I will have to see if I can find this lens for review/comparison :) I've been asked a few times already so it seems to be an interesting lens.
Great reviews as always, im olympus user and always looking lenses for a portrait reviews, awesome shot, which software did you use it for tone editing?
Yes, is that lens that i did searching...very nice environnental portrait whit an attracrive bokeh, enough to pull out the subject at half body. Thanks for the review ;-)
Red35 Photography o havw also the 15 mm f1.7 PanaLeica that is great for a very small body, but i want more...more blur, less iso, then the best for my wedding and reportage works. Not for street where i will continue to use smaller lens, such as the 15 or 20 mm pancake ;-). Are you agree?? :-D
Yes totally. Though still depends on when I am shooting it. If I am shooting street at night, I may still incline to take the 1.2 over the 'thinner' counterpart. I do like using my 12mm f/2 prime too. Amazing and looks sexy on my EM-5 II or a PEN F :)
Red35 Photography yes, i dont have it but it is very attractive for the body design, a little more vintage...amazing on the Pen F yeah. :-D I will buy a 24 mm equiv. Prime lens nextly...at now use for wider scene the 7-14 mm f2.8 Pro, or the smaller zuiko 9-18 mm, but not bright. Where i can see the full photos of this video? Thank you ;-)
I could take a great picture of Charli even using old 1920s equipment because she is so stunningly beautiful. This lens looks good but how valuable is it if you already have the very impressive 12-40mm Olympus zoom?
Thanks Chris, surely Charli would appreciate your kind words :D Well, 12-40 is a very great general purpose lens and super sharp. I need that 1.2 for my work as I shoot low light a lot. 2.8 is great but for me it's too slow and I don't like to crank up ISO because I have clients to satisfy. But having said that, and don't get me wrong, they are two very different lenses and one is specialised and fixed focal length and other is more tailor for flexibility. Both have excellent optical quality so the decision is really up to you if you really need to use that speed. And I haven't mentioned bokeh :)
I got my copy a few weeks ago. Comparing it to the 25mm and 45mm, I find this one is noticably WARMER (yellow color shift). Have you found the same, or do I have a bad copy?
Pavel Fabík Hi Pavel, first thanks for watching our video :) the 1.2 is definitely faster than 1.8 but the difference is not significant. The main difference is the ability to gain one more stop of light and shallower depth of field achieved by the 1.2
Got so much awesome info from your content. I would have to say I am a fan now haaha,,I currently have Canon and Sony currently. Just picked up an Oly EM5II with 12-42mm pro can't wait to use it for run and gun shooting..Moving away from Canon DSLR and really want more light and less gear lying around. I guess I will have to make some solid choices soon and sell some gear. 😀. I want to create a run and gun kit for everything from street food to someone working on a farm. Thought?
Jimmy wonderful review.. Maybe you can make a new video series where you are showing Charlie how to photograph. Some kind of tutorial videos. This would be great fun and very entertaining :)
Have you tried Sigma 16mm f1.4? At less than 50% of price compared to this lens, i wonder the value of this lens to be tough sell. I do have 25mm f1.2 which I love.
Tae Nam thanks Tse for watching our video! Well it’s not a tough sell really. First, it’s a native lens which means it’s fully supported by firmware update from both body and lens, second its weather sealed, 1.2 is also a selling point and I will Ly that for a 1.2 anydays as I need as much speed as possible. It’s almost like Canon’s own 1.4 & 1.2 lenses which the latter is more than double the price. Though I must say that the Sigma is nice and value for money. Great performer overall. The combination of 17mm 1.2 vs 16mm 1.4 means that it has a better subject separation at the same distant. J
Red35 Photography thanks for your comments and your reviews. I think it's a wonderful thing that mft system is getting many variety lenses. I have em5 mk2 now and I want to upgrade the body but I feel like Panasonic seems to be more relevant to the current market bringing many more camera bodies. I'm considering G9 but I want to know your input if that's a problem with Olympus lenses I have along the way like firmware AF etc.
Tae Nam I do think that m4/3 sector has matured quite nicely these days. You don’t have to worry about firmware as both Panasonic and Olympus have signed a join development agreement and they can upgrade firmwares on either side. Yet the native argument still exists because if there’s any improvement/fixes, it’s always quicker on native body/lenses. But I wouldn’t worry too much. G9 is a great camera and in many ways, it’s an updated version of EM1 II. G9 is over a year younger than EM1 so it better be :) Technologies move too quick these days but I’ve been shooting with EM1 II since it came out and all our RUclips videos are shot on the same cameras (we have three!!). We love it. Newer cameras are coming out later in the year too, EM5 III should be sometime this year so stay tuned for that! PEN F II may be early next year then it will be eventually the EM1 III :) I am sticking with Olympus because it just works for me and it’s IBIS is still the best in business.
Hi Jimmy! Great video overall but to make it short, what sort of Iso ranges you used on the night section, like the lumiere and overall night scenes??? Again, slowly growing on me, the whole olympus pro series! not mentining the fun and beauty of your videos and Charlie! keep it on
Cheers Bruno mate. Well, I used mostly at ISO 200-800 depends on lights. I didn't use anything higher because of 1.2. I shoot weddings and in very dim situation, I would push it to 1600 and may sometimes 2000 but rarely I shoot beyond 3200 and 6400 is really an emergency. This is why I love the pro series and they are build for that!
Chhers thank you! Just to have a feel of how much different compared to my full frame, which is about the same, really! I try not to go up more than iso 1600 or lower. more than this is pushing!! fullframe but not a great iso perfomer so...
Hi Jimmy, I live in London. I am actually participating on a photowalk in Kingston by Olympus Image space organization. But if you have anything else, i might consider, or even second shooting or something would be cool to meet. Anyway thank you for the feedback appreciated
I work with Olympus a lot and I can get you a free pro loan kit for you to try out for longer if you wish. You can choose the lenses you want with the EM-1 Mark II.
Hey Gabrielle, thanks for watching! In short, yes. Well, I did say you get what you paid for in the end for lenses. Olympus has a 17mm 1.8, which is about the same size as the Panasonic 15mm 1.7 but Panasonic is better, optically but also costs more than Olympus. Now Olympus has the 1.2 and again, much better optically, despite larger and heavier, it’s also build to last and weather-sealed. A must for professionals these days and I will pay for that speed and protection any day :)
No weather sealing on the 17mm f/1.8, though. Otherwise I would say that it is the "better" option (smaller, lighter, much more affordable), but after seeing your video I do understand why Olympus made the 17mm f/1.2 …
Thanks Christian! Absolutely, camera lens companies always make lenses with 'various' quality to shoot different target clients. They are all capable lenses and with different strength. I can't argue the size and value of the 1.8 and a wise option if you do a lot of travelling. But for those who needs the 1.2? It's only a one way road :)
Regards from Stockholm! Olympus 17mm f1.2 or Voightländer 17mm f0.95? My priority is low light. How much of a difference will there be between the two? Who has some advice?
Hi there, to be frank, the difference between 0.95 and 1.2 isn't as huge as some people may think. Yes, theoretically you can gain almost a stop but in reality, it depends on the lens design and more importantly the elements they used in the lens. Olympus, being a premium optics, it's wide open performance is hard to fault. Voigtlander while good, you need to stop down to get anythiing decent. You will get shallower depth of field, but you aren't gaining too much lights nor image quality. it's soft and has lots of coma and halo at 0.95. It's ok for black and white but you need to work on your colour images a lot. I've done other 0.95 lenses and apart from Leica, which costs over 10k USD or Nikkor for around the same money, you aren't going to get super sharp and super bright images. For that, I would go with 17mm 1.2
So compared to the 17mm 1.8 if you were not worried about shooting in low light. Would it be worth spending the extra money for the 1.2 . I don't think so because shallow depth of field isn't such a desired thing for a wide lens in almost all shooting situations. And the 1.2 is not that much more shallow than the 1.8 lens. Now the Bokeh quality seems to be smoother so there is that. However it is so much larger and heavier. Just my humble opinion. Now Olympus build a 75mm 1.2 and I will be the first buyer. Love my 75mm 1.8 so much.
Thanks Terry, funny enough, there’s a visible difference in depth of field between the 1.8 and 1.2 and I think it’s all to do with the rendering with the pro lens. Yes, I do prefer the more compact size of the 1.8 for travel and leave the 1.2 for my pro shoots. Oh... 75mm 1.2 will be great!
thx Terry Breedlove. couldn't be a better answer. İMO, f1.2 aperture is reasonable for focal length 45 mm and above. but for 17mm and 25mm focal length composition is more important, especially amateurs.
Thank you so much for this beautiful review! What iso settings would you use for the kind of portraits you did in the low light? I'm doing a wedding this summer and I'm considering getting this lens for shots inside the church/walking up the aisle and also for group shots outdoors. Do you think it will work good for that purpose? Thanks so much again :)
audentish Thanks :) Yes, of course, the 17mm 1.2 Pro is one of the fastest M4/3 wide and also if you use EM1 II, it focuses super quick too. I use it for wedding and travel. All the photos in this review were shot wide open at 1.2 and ISO range from 400-1600
Between the 17mm Pro & 45mm Pro if you ONLY have $1200 to spend which one do you buy? I personally don't like the alternative 25mm Pro lens or length. I either like to shoot wide or far. #SoManyChoices #SoLittleMoney Lol
Hey Cody! Thanks mate. In that case, I would use 17mm instead because it's more versatile in my opinion. You can shoot half to full length portrait while 45mm is more for shoulder and headshot and detail stuff. But you can decide what you really want to shoot more I guess :)
They are both nice and Sigma has now developed a reputation for premium lenses. But I still prefer 17mm 1.2 just for its rendering and also that ever so slightly faster aperture for low light stuff. Every little helps for my type of work :)
Almost all the example shots have lights or highlights in the background; and on this lens, these _bloooom_. Would like to see some daylight shots without background highlights, to see the non-lightsource bokeh.
Hi Jimmy, always enjoy the reviews. Is there still a place for the 25mm Pro along side the 17mm Pro? - meaning does it work to own both? I'm selling my Nocticron to fund the 17 (I have the 25). I would like all three but I have the 60mm macro and 40-150pro so I guess I have the 45mm covered? I would have to sell the 40-150 to get the 45 but I think the 40-150 offers more versatility though I don't use it much at the moment.
Cheers Chris, I guess they are all different and each has its own place depending on what you are shooting. I own both 17 and 25 1.2 pro lenses and they are in my bag most of the time. 25 is my workhorse and it's guaranteed in every shoot. I rotate 17mm with 12mm and 7-14mm 2.8 Pro depends on mood, weather condition, lights and subjects. I also own 60mm and 40-150 too and they are great for portraits. 45mm is a great lens if you need to use the 1.2 whether for DoF or low light shooting.
Hi Jimmy, i've been enjoying your videos, and was waiting to get home from work to watch this one when i got the notification it was posted today ! I've been considering jumping ship from canon. I bought an a6000. Fine little camera, but to be honest i believe sony has some high priced cameras and super high priced lenses which just don't have a high quality feel. I've decided not to invest further into the sony platform, and that has led me to Olympus........and your you tube channel ! I live in rural Canada, and much of my shooting has been wildlife, and of course hockey ! Jimmy, if you ever get a chance to shoot a hockey game try it. It will challenge you. The speed, lighting, focus speed, and white balance issues with the ice surface make hockey its own unique photography niche. With the release of the M1 Mark II i think Olympus may be able to work for me. For my own pleasure i enjoy getting out shooting landscapes, and astrophotography (northern lights here are awesome). Some of the fast wide angle lenses recently released from Olympus would compliment that nicely as well. I'm being long-winded but i wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put into your reviews. Its much appreciated. Also i should add that its fantastic to see Charli here again !! I see you guys are having so much fun. Keep up the great work
Thanks towee70!! Wow, glad you enjoy our videos! Believe me or not, I was a Canon guy myself and I was really blown away by the EM-1 Mark II when I first tried it and decided that it's time the Micro 4/3 platform can be used in a very demanding environment. I've been using it on a daily basis throughout 2017 and shot over 60k frames! It's just awesome and a great little camera for video too as you can see that all our videos are shot with the same camera. Olympus also produces some of the best lenses around and the latest 1.2 pro lenses are really an instant classic in my opinion. I know Canada is a great place indeed. I used to live in Vancouver for 2 years when I was a teenager and loved it there. It certainly is a great place for wildlife and landscape! Northern lights!!! Man, take me there! I've never shot a hockey game before, only watched it on TV a few times. I do like watching baseball and basketball though :) Where about in Canada you live? If I ever come your end, will definitely ask you for places to 'shoot' some cool wildlife and landscape! Oh, thanks about Charli and she's great isn't she?
Yes, Charli is a delight, you both give off positive vibes and work so well together. I like that both of you interact with your audience so naturally and unscripted. I am in Manitoba, right in the middle of Canada. I have travelled coast to coast. My own province has some awesome destinations. One especially worth mentioning is Churchill Manitoba. A small northern community. I'm sure google would return the photo results of many pros and amateurs alike. In a matter of hours you could photograph polar bears, beluga whales and the aurora. In the southern part of the province where i live it is a blend of prairies and boreal forest. Seeing that you previously lived in Vancouver you are well aware of the Rockies, a person could photograph there for a lifetime and capture award winning vistas daily. Definitely look me up if you are planning a trip to Canada !
Oh, and as far as the Olympus system, i believe i would select the E-M1 Mark II and the Pen-F. Haha, and so far i have it narrowed down to just 14 Olympus lenses that i would like. The Pen F made my lens list grow because i believe i'd like some of the smaller premium glass to go with it. That would mean some overlap with Pro primes, but in my opinion the Pen-F was designed for thos more compact lenses. Would love to hear your opinions on the pro lenses paired with the Pen-F ??
Manitoba! Wow, I would love to go there for a visit. 14 lenses! Pen F is definitely made to match all those nice small premium primes, reminds of all those lovely rangefinder street cameras! But look aside, the pro lenses work perfectly on the PEN F too but if you shoot sports a lot, Pen F won't do as well as EM1 because it's still contrast base AF and EM1 has both contrast and phase detect hybrid system which is one of the best in terms of tracking in mirrorless system today.
what is Charli diagnosed with?I hope her all the best in the world!getting the camera next year since I just bought a 20mm Nikkor and I wish I had waited and seen what it produces after f4 hand held!not very good!95pct of f4 or higher needs a tripod for sure!!!!
bernhardtsen74 thanks mate. She has depression and currently under treatments. She is very open about this and has started a channel on YT about her journey. Check her out :)
will do!even though as pretty as she is, it must be hard to get work as an actress anywhere these days!also a depression survivour its hard some times to find a ray of sunshine in every day!
Personally, I think Olympus makes the most sexy looking lenses in the industry. They perform as good as they look too. I only have two right now. the 45 1.8 and the 7-14 2.8 Pro. Fantastic Lenses.

Please can someone tell me what the ambient music is on this vid?
And - great review, very useful. Many thanks, yet again.
Cheers mate. I can't remember what music we used now, sorry :)
Just jumped on the "free Pro prime with Em1ii " deal. Having a hard time trying to decide between the 17 and 25. Both of your videos on these lenses are great. And Charlie is such a great personality.
Thanks mate, they are both great lenses but for me, I use 17 a lot more than 25, but it really depends on your style of photography.
Thank you for this beautiful video. If I am not mistaken, there is indeed 1 EV between ƒ/1.2 and ƒ/1.8
Thanks for the great content. Really enjoying your videos.
Thanks R Wilk!! Much appreciated your support :) Remember to subscribe, we have a lot more coming soon :)
Great review as always! I love that lens too.
Thanks Sean!!! Yes it’s one of my favourite lenses!
I have no doubt on their photographic capability now and if they smash that in video, then, they will have a winning camera!
a lot of nice shots in this video.
thanks mate!
Loving this a lens. Bokeh looks easy to achieve! Nice job Jimmy!
Thanks Flok! Yes this is a brilliant lens and definitely own that I will be using a lot!
The olly pro 40-150mm f2.8 and Olly 75mm F1.8 is my bread and butter lenses even though I have an A7 iii and G Master glass. There is something about a Panasonic G9 combined with Olympus PRO M/43 lenses. I just love it.
Great content. Do you think this lens would be good for landscape shooting. Or would you say the 25 or 45?
@@davidbeck1696 In that case, the 17mm 1.2 will serve you well.
@@Red35Photography Thank you very much. I’m going to subscribe to your channel.
@@davidbeck1696 Thank you for your support!
Glad you enjoyed our other videos and yes the 17mm is definitely great for absorbing the background into the frame :)
if you are a beginner. buy 12-40 f 2.8 zoom lens. you can find best or more suitable focal length for yourself.
Heavy price tag, but that being said: The m43-cameras are just getting better and better, so the nice results from these will be competitive for decades.
Thanks Magnus, yes technology is getting better so I am not worry at all. I love this format and it does the job brilliantly for me :)
Red35 Photography What are the disadvantages (or advantages in any) of using this lense on a Panasonic body like the GH5?
Yes, is that lens that i did searching...very nice environnental portrait whit an attracrive bokeh, enough to pull out the subject at half body. Thanks for the review ;-)
Thanks Lucio watching! Indeed, I think this is THE best moderate wide angle prime lens today for M4/3 cameras.
Thank you ;-)
Really nice portraits!
Chris Doc The f/1.2 aperture might make it worthwhile 🤔
Charlie is such a beautiful model
Not sure about the lens but what a smart model!
I got my copy a few weeks ago. Comparing it to the 25mm and 45mm, I find this one is noticably WARMER (yellow color shift). Have you found the same, or do I have a bad copy?
Hello what is the purpose of the red flash you use for the night photos?
To help the camera focus.
Great review.
Thanks Grissana!! Much appreciated with your support!
Hello Jimmy, which lens provides faster autofocus 17/1.2 or 17/1.8 in your opinion ?
Pavel Fabík Hi Pavel, first thanks for watching our video :) the 1.2 is definitely faster than 1.8 but the difference is not significant. The main difference is the ability to gain one more stop of light and shallower depth of field achieved by the 1.2
Thanks for the video.
Yes this is something we are planning and hope you have subscribed and stay tuned. A series of tutorial will be made :)
Red35 Photography of course I did looking forward all the best from vienna
The guy who shoots your videos does a beautiful job.
eyeballbilly thanks !!! It’s a girl and her name is Tracey!!! She’s brilliant!
She's great! Tracey the BOSS
Red35 Photography What does Tracey use to shoot these episodes? As for sound, are both of you wearing body mics?
We use Olympus EM-1 II to shoot (see end credit notes) and sound, I have one Rode SmartLav+ and hooked up to Olympus LS-1 recorder (yes a body mic)
Red35 Photography Thanks, Jimmy (I assume I'm talking to Jimmy?). The video and audio kit is working out really well for you.
Which country are you based? If you are in the UK, I can arrange something for you :)
And Panasonic 15 mm F 1.7 ? Is it worth to pay more?
for almost a full-stop, the price is about right (comparing brand new prices between the two).
What’s it like for shooting video?
brilliant :)
informative. Gorgeous mickey.
Cheers buddy!
Hmmm this vs the Sigma 16mm f1.4??? Price vs Quality?
All the photos in this review were shot wide open at 1.2 and ISO range from 400-1600
Thanks so much for your feedback! :)
So the 17mm Pro is the "money making" lens to buy :)
Well, that’s only my opinion :) I simply love this focal length :)
Can you do a review of the Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II on an Olympus body?
Thanks Magnus for watching. I will see what we can do because I don't use too many Panasonic lenses but I will see if I can find a copy to review :)
there's a sigma 16mm 1.4 out there now,,have you used it?what's you opinion on it in comparison to this olympus 17mm 1.2?
They are both nice and Sigma has now developed a reputation for premium lenses. But I still prefer 17mm 1.2 just for its rendering and also that ever so slightly faster aperture for low light stuff. Every little helps for my type of work :)
This could be an excellent choice since I've never really been 100% happy with the 17mm f1.8 - but the price tag..... xD
LOL, appreciated! Like anything in lenses, you do get what you pay for in the end. The performance of this 17mm 1.2 is really something!
45mm is a great lens if you need to use the 1.2 whether for DoF or low light shooting.
this may be one of the best available lenses but needed your subject better illuminated to judge the quality
Great video.
You are both so sympathic.
Thanks Alex :) Have a good day!
what is Charli diagnosed with?I hope her all the best in the world!getting the camera next year since I just bought a 20mm Nikkor and I wish I had waited and seen what it produces after f4 hand held!not very good!95pct of f4 or higher needs a tripod for sure!!!!
bernhardtsen74 thanks mate. She has depression and currently under treatments. She is very open about this and has started a channel on YT about her journey. Check her out :)
will do!even though as pretty as she is, it must be hard to get work as an actress anywhere these days!also a depression survivour its hard some times to find a ray of sunshine in every day!
Nice review.
I miss Paulina
Thanks Sebastian :) She still around and we are doing other projects together, I will pass your message to her :D
Excellent! Hope to see you two together again here at some point. Charli makes a terrific co-host/model/foil too. :)
Cheers David, glad you enjoy our video. Charli is a great model and a fab person. Don't worry, she will be back a lot more!
F1.2 is a full stop faster than f1.8, not half.
Thanks for correction :)
Err errrrr no. 1 stop from 1.2 is 2.0
Really Nice pictures Jimmy.
And Charlie is really a cute girl.
Niklas Fahlquist thanks Niklas!
Lots of snapping away but I didn’t see any of the shots taken, apart from a couple of the mouse with her feet chopped off.
Olympus camera always pretty, just like Charli...
Aww thanks! Yes, I always love the look of Olympus cameras!
Слов не понял, но мне понравилось :)
Friendzone'd
Jimmy, you look dressed for the arctic.
Sympathetic girl🤗
Nice vidéo as usual but the plasticky parka is 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
