Oooooh I'm so happy to see him in a real 3D form! :D Thank you so much for using my model ;)
Haha it's so fun to see how it is NOT optimized for anything else than PMX/MMD softwares at first.
This is sarcasm right?
@@mikafizz1022 not at all, should it be?
Oh crap you found the video 2 xD nice, and yeah this is honestly pretty darn neat to see
Thank you !
From all other 3d printing channels you are the only one who actually pushes 3d printing forward and any newcomer would find his way trough this channel.
Great idea including free software alternatives. Really thinking about all of your audience. Nice one Angus:)
Angus is like the Steve Irwin of the 3D printing community to me, because he's passionate about what he does, sparks interest and curiosity about 3D printing, and brings a smile to my face with his positive energy...the Australian accent also helps.
Very nice of you to specify the "legal stuff" before everything else. You are truly inspirational! I've learn so many things from you during the last years and you inspired me much to become a content creator! Keep up the good work :)
Really appreciate it! I'm always cautious so that no one gets in trouble.
Kind words :) you got one more sub
@@MakersMuse This is so important so the community stays open to new things, but keeping in mind the responsability that comes with that. :)
Not getting caught is different to been "legal" just be aware of it.
@@vfxforge That's for sure, but no one wants to do something and hope to "not get cought" . We should always respect people's work and intellectual property. He just showed us an example to modify the files to be 3d printable :D The "commercial" part of this should be completly avoided. :D
not gonna lie, the tutorial was definitely better in the manga
Weeb levels rising
wow this 3D builder tip is super nice, I had a complex multi-body part, which took 3 hours to fix true netfabb service in slic3r. 3D builder did it in couple of minutes..... NICE!
That's interesting because slic3r hooks into the same process 3d builder uses, they should be the same result.
Thanks for the tutorial! It would be very interesting to see a model generated from this printed on a resin machine such as the Moai or SL1.
They'd look SO good!
Well just found this epic tutorial about printing mmd models... Thanks for the help!
Btw some complicated pmx models need the solidify modifier in blender to thicken the clothes wall cuz pmx models mostly have faces without closed edges(and currently not fixable by auto tools)
If you want to print a model with a post you need the pmx editor and export a obj with inported post(or do it directly in the editor) then edit in blender.
Also, use vertex groups to partly create the thickness for different parts if needed
Those meshmixer tips are pure gold!!! Thank you so much!
No way! Ive been wanting a tutorial like this!
Same good job on getting it working Angus
So glad I came across this video. I'm currently in the process of creating manga style OC with a keen interest in 3D printing aswell, this is a perfect marriage of 2 interests. Thank you very much kind sir!
Really happy to see 3D Builder on your list there. I'd passed it off as just Windows bloatware for awhile, but then I had a model which Meshmixer would just keep choking on when I tried to combine everything, and 3DB just said "Yeah, alright". I think I might even have commented on that old video you showed from 2016 about 3DB just *working*.
You don't really need the PMX editor to get the .obj files as blender has some plugins where you can import the models and export them as whatever you want from there. The VRChat community has been using that for ages to make custom avatars from MMD models. The main plugin you want is MMD Tools, then also CATS if you want to easily join the meshes, translate all the japanese bones into english and also for fixing the rig for easier posing.
Nice, I use MMD and pmx editor. You can easily delite 3d items that you do not use in your model in pmx, like the inside of the mouth, this can help save issue and time for when getting the model ready. This a cool first step tutorial, thank you.
I love seeing your videos even though I don't have a 3d printer 😅
I’ve been doing an almost identical process (minus meshmixer... cause I don’t know how to use it) with WoW characters using the WoW Model Viewer. Very challenging prints, but OH so rewarding!!!!!
Excellent video, as always.
This is interesting. I was just shopping for figurines as was just thinking that many of these go for $30 to almost $100 each but I can buy a 3d printer for $100 and that the cost of a spool of PVC couldn't be any more expensive. I can even make my own 3d models. So I could in fact make my own Voltron if I wanted.
You sir, make things happen the way they should be.
Maker muse: *exist*
Me: *looks at Danganronpa MMD models*
Time to make some non office; S.H Figurarts Figures for myself XD
did you do it
Blender 2.80 + 3D printing + Angus = Creativity level over 9000 **scouter explodes**. You might be able to design better supports for 3D printing in Blender.
True that, tree-like supports or designed in supports (especially for the hair) would be awesome!
Amazing video, now I have more stuff to print
NICE! btw nice "I learn some Meshmixer-tools" Thank you for ALL your GREAT work!
I thought you're going to go full garage kit-viable print with cutting it into parts so to reduce supports and increase print quality greatly, but it's understandable since the model isn't high enough poly to begin with c:
You've deleted its eyebrows. That's what these "irrelevant pieces of something" were.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It worked perfectly for cleaning converted MDL files from Titanfall 2
Didn't work for me. This method made the result the same as the mmd plugin i used with meshmixer
Edit: Now it worked fine! I oversaw that one thing you did which was to repair model in 3d builder, and now she's perfect!
What do you think of tree supports? I've had good luck with them on complicated models.
Also, if it hasn’t already been stated, perhaps if you tilted the model backwards your results would’ve been better. I do that for D&D miniatures, with a couple dense layers on top of the support and it’s AMAZING the difference! It’s an option in Cura also.
This tutorial is absolutely wonderful! Thanks a ton!! :D
alternarively to pmx editior there is also the open source mmd tools plugin for blender, which i prefer since it has pretty much every feature of other mmd software, and also all the nice features for 3d printing blender has anyways. judt googling "mmd tool blender" should let you find the guthub page.
I have problems when i try to perform poses.. the clothes always stays static on PMX
Do not remove this video ever. Coz i will try this soneday for sure when i have enough money😂
I love it how much you get into you're video's!
2:48 now I HAVE to make a webstore 💶💶💶. You said so. It was reverse psychology. Yeah. What, It wasn't? Dammit. 🤔😏
*weebstore
FTFY
you'll get in trouble unless you live in China lol
what does angle threshold actually do?
and why is it that you have more options in Cura than me? Am I missing something?
Your audio sounds "hollow" in this video. Normally you don't have this. Sounds kinda like your in a tunnel. Also, doesn't Meshmixer also repair models?
Meshmixer does but it's nothing on what 3d builder and cloud services can do.
why don't you use a blender"s mmd plugin to import in blender than export mmd model as obj file?
It can be done without using PMX editor? There is no way i'm going to make it work on my computer
Wouldn't it be less time consuming if you printed it upside down ? I think it would need less support
even better, just print em in 3 parts vertically: legs, body, head and glue them together after. It saves a shitton of support material
i am trying to do a load pose in pmx editor. i found one i really liked. how do i save it as obj?
I guess this would be a better print with dual extrusion printers. The supports printed in dissolvable material.
Is it not a better idea to print them upsidedown when possible since the head is so large
I've been struggling on and off for a year now trying to pull models from [a space combat game] but the mesh are functional for the game (weapons bays, landing gear doors, etc). Trying to make a watertight model is an absolute nightmare. I'll try the Windows 3D Builder. But, my best result was from the absolute most off-the-wall method: I took the model and rendered an animation of an SLA scan and then fed that video into a 3D scanner software then rebuilt the cloud.
Looks like a fun print, but the first few programs were just format converters. You didn't explain what needed to be converted (other than the file format) or why. At least I felt like there were things I wanted to know and weren't conveyed.
Thanks for the video though :)
Do try the tree support in Cura 3.6, in the experimental options - much better than the thin towers which often fail as you describe, and works well for figurines in particular.
Angus, there have been many discussions on the problems of printed items not sticking properly to the base while printing. What are your thoughts on using a vacuum platen to print on? Also, what is a good all around printer that does some of the other filaments like the pliable ones with a heated bed and isn't in the thousands for a beginner please?
Congrats on 400k subs you just hit it
You are a Meshmixer wizard.
Impressive guide
Thanks for sharing😀👍
Great video! Have watched it with interest and learned alot! First jab at working with PMD models. Found poses for MMD and really want to use those poses. They will work in MMD but not in the PMX editor. Any tips anyone?
Nevermind. Found out a fix. It was because of a decimal comma instead of a decimal point that PMXE has a problem with and PPM doesn't..
@@phamoen Could you explain a bit more? I'm having the same problem. Tried swapping , and . in the .vpd file but it only made the legs of the model dissapear
defly very underrated
Hey! I have a very unique model and I'm worried when I go to print it Monday everything is just going to go wrong, is there any way you can look at my .stl ? I don't need you to do anything but I'd like some kind of reassurance or feedback you could give me. I've watched your tutorial but it hasn't helped my anxiety. I couldn't repair it in 3d builder because when I did it filled in the underneath of the cape so I opted against that, and it makes me feel like I should raise the thickness of the model in CURA a bit more.
Sure dude, shoot it through to sales (at) makersmuse (dot) com I've got a little time tomorrow to take a look!
@@MakersMuse Ah! Thank's so much! I really didn't expect you to get back to me. I sent an email with the file, I hope you can ease my fears, I haven't stopped stressing about it since I closed CURA.
I would appreciate a video on troubleshooting 3d printers. Thank you in advance.
He already has - a lot of them.
Simplify 3D is much better for supports that are easy to remove. For some reason in Cura the supports fuse.
I would love to see a similar tutorial and advice for characters exported from Daz Studio.
I have not used Daz Studio for about 12 months, but from memory, many models in Daz studio uses hair that is not a simple mesh and cannot be exported as such, and therefore would be a problem in exporting and printing them with hair. Also many characters have clothing and accessories that can be large in number and complex that may cause a lot of potential issues. Other than that, I would say once exported, there would be a lot of cleaning up to do similar to the above.
Thanks Angus! Cool application.
You been hitting the gym muse? You're looking buff! And 400k awesome stuff congrats
Hah! No just >_> filling out
@Peaches & Pippin their you go I edited it again and fixed it I hope your happy now.
I'm definitely going to have to try this.
Would it be easier/ faster to print if you were to lay the figure on it's back? Maybe you'd need less support structures.
Thank you for mentioning it's not legal to make money off of this!! Because MMD models are made by such a wide variety of people, you need to follow each individual models rules, and MOST people do NOT allow commercial usage of their models! (like myself.)
I found that supports in Meshmixer work well for complex models. They do take some fiddling though. S3D does a good job of slicing, but you restricted it to free programs for the video.
The amount of rabbit hole I just went down in looking for MMD models...
When i try to transform, it just moves the selection, rather than expanding?
Why not using water-soluble PVA for support, with support z distance set to 0?
I am not able to generate face groups... anyone has an idea of how to solve it..?
Will turning the model upside down help to reduce such incredible amount of support material?
he's trying to hide that he's a weeb by awkwardly laughing all the time :P
I see... You are a man of culture as well.
I just woke up, but I'm here!
Time to re-assemble my 3d printer I guess :D
great use of a set of tools.
Love your videos man
I would love to see you working in blender. its something I want to learn but most tutorials arent coming from the perspective of 3d printing.
How do you switch to the English version of VMD view?
*But what If I don't have a 3D printer, talent and time?*
I think I would have printed that with the back facing down. The amount of support could hardly be worse, and you'd get a cleaner face and front.
If you have good support interface, isn't the print easier head down?
Hi Angus,
Have you considered a tutorial on creating 3D Images to use as moulds as in casting ?
Fairdinkum Aussie
It is rather difficult to learn I recommend blender I have had some pretty good success with it
would you happen to know how to print fvp files?
You sir, just made my day^^
yes yes yes thank you so much
Now I am going to have to learn to go the other way, and rig some printable characters into MMD.
can you try printing with resin? since it produce high details
lets try with the other 3d models. thanks for ur meshmixer tutorial
I would like Blender explanations. Meshmixer doesn't run well on any of my computers
Great job...you the man
Great video, to go further, I would beg for a proper Ninjaripper extracting and fixing video
Where do I get your purple filament?
better export to .obj from 3d builder. sometimes 3d builder messes up .stl.
super cool video, I gave up searching for a pmx editor because I thought those that I used were rubbish for exporting these abominations. turns out that is inenevable then.
Try MMdtools for blender
Thank you.
When he says home 0:07 it sounds like harm
3:56 Here I am
bowlroll is going to send a hit out for you
Wow, that's pretty cool..
I Really Need The 3D Printer To 3D Print The Dinosaur Models (Such As The Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Triceratops)
Great job and keep it up
This might be helpful for those who don't have access to 3D builder, or just want to repair their STLs. Microsoft has an online STL repair website where you can upload your STL and it'll fix it. From what I'd assume, it seems to use the same process as 3D builder.
tools3d.azurewebsites.net
I haven't tested it with MMD models, but it could be worth a shot!
Dude, put the model on its back and use experimental tree support!!!
