I absolutely love my state and cant wait to get back everytime iv left to travel elsewhere. The natural beauty of Michigan is great, my wife and i are planning our 2 week adventure there on the boat for this summer
I was there solo in 1980 and with my best bud and a canoe in 1986. Both times out of Rock Harbor. I'm almost 64 now. I don't know if I can do this anymore, but I sure would like to try. I am retiring in Houghton in several months so if I get myself back into shape, I could probably make an easy 2-3 day trip. Isle Royale is awesome. sw
I’ve never explored the wilds of Michigan before, but I’m kind of partial to the mountains in either North Georgia, west North Carolina, or upstate New York (from the Hudson Highlands, to the Catskills, to the Adirondacks).
I am so sad that the island is closed for the entire season this year! I was looking forward to exploring and going on this adventure this summer! Hopefully, next year!!
Hoping this shutdown/quarantine is lifted before the end of this summer so i can visit. I had already began to make plans at the end of last summer and this place has been my peak interest for nearly 3 years. Hoping to do a week long backpacking and fishing adventure with a few friends
@@jessemccarthy05 Florida is way too flat for me. I don’t have a Beach Bum personality in the least, and get bored at beaches after a few hours, as I find that there is far less to do than on a backpacking trip.

Can you see the Canadian (Thunder Bay) shoreline from the north side of the island? Very seriously considering going, been to the UP dozens of times......
That's not a problem. Typically law enforcement doesn't condone smoking in public, but they understand it's legal for recreational use, and I've never had an issue at any State parks. It's also highly doubtful that you'd see anyone at your campsite. The worst they might do is tell you to put it out.
Dont bother with the boat ride, its 8 hours. I did the seaplane and it was worth it to start such an epic trip. Think it was like $300 something for a roundtrip.
For the traditional IR experiance, take the boat. I suggest leaving from Copper Harbor. You miss the entire Keweenaw too. If you have to, just fly home, but that means you have to take Ranger 3 out of Houghton and you will miss the Keweenaw and that right there makes it not worth it, IMO.
@@Minong_Manitou_Mishepeshu I had an amazing experience taking the plane and the seaplane better fit my schedule. Traditional or not taking a plane there was exhilarating. Im definitely doing that again instead of the boat ride. Better use of my time. how is Isle Royal part of Michigan? Its closer to MN and Canada

Its because 4 out of 5 Great Lakes prefer Michigan.
Michigan had to give Ohio Toledo to become a state, we were given the U.P. and Isle Royale in exchange. Talk about a win/win for Michigan.
