i think the label tried but were limited in their vision of what the band could be...If you remember, they had cameos in a few films, played big festivals, had a video on MTV, were name-dropped on "Goodtime Boys" by rhcp....It would be nice if they would've made some decent money. pretty sure they all still live gig to gig
Black flowers one of the saddest songs ever made.. It makes me cry immediately. But it's so good (If you don't like the live-version try the one from the album. It's the best)
"Black Flowers" and "Swim" are emotional songs. Fishbone wants to share an emotional moment through these songs, which over rides the traditional approach to music. The feel and lyrics of the music are genius.
it was mindblowing. especially if you'd been going to shows in L.A. for a few years leading up to seeing FISHBONE live, because there was Nothing like it at the time.
This is a band in pain. Rodney King had just reminded them that being Black in America was very dangerous, and this was a band of LA guys. On top of that, they'd just lost their beloved guitarist Kendall Jones to... Lord knows what, and were down to just one axe man. This was a powerful moment, but also the beginning of the end of Fishbone Mach I.
Smoked up Angelo during a show in NC.. he got me on the bus after the show and a ring of blunts went around the back of the bus till I had to go home.. really exceptional band in every way!
Saw them during this tour in Pittsburgh. Met Angelo before the show. Asked my friends and me if we had any "marijuana cigarettes." Had a huge fishbone rubber stamp - stamped sheets of papers for us and autographed them. Later kicked my friend Tim in the nose while crowd surfing. He also jumped onto the crowd from the 2nd story after climbing rigging. Amazing show!
Yeah these songs are great!! This performance/tour was just after Kendall Jones had his breakdown and left the band. As much as I love these guys, they never seemed quite the same after that. I'd love to hear these guys release something new though!
WDR Rocknacht in der Grugahalle - ich war dabei! War toll! :) Und Biohazard als Ersatz für Mighty Mighty Bosstones, obwohl sie schon am selben Tag auf dem Dynamo gespielt hatten. Hammer-Gig!
Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Primus, Butthole Surfers, firehose, Thelonious Monster... ¡¡¡QUÉ ÉPOCAS, CUÁNTA NOSTALGIA!!!
took me years to get round to checking these guys but what can i say.. severe fucking awesomeness i am soooo hyped the lead singer, is his name Angello? he is just so cool, his voice, his moves, their look and most importantly THE music! some one said it's like musical or a theatre or something i totally get that, there are some great comments here.. peace out y'all keep it FISHBONE :D
I cant remember what year i saw them at Palooza but me and my brother and friend were tripping so fucking hard when they played i was crawling underneath my seat 😆 They were great
@HigherGround86 Nope.. It's after Kendall pulled the crazy card and joined his dad's cult. This song kinda became dedicated to him. During and after Norwood's court battle against Kendall the band would frequently be asked what happened to him and would be quoted as saying he got lost in the forest and that he was a "black flower that lost his way." :/ He's less crazy now and on good terms with all the guys again though.. Hopefully a reunion is a-brewin'! :D
First of all thanks for posting!! I'm gonna give my opinion as to why the vocals are "out of tune," and I'm assuming that is what some of you mean when you say "out of tune." I saw them once in the 90's on the Chim Chim tour & I've seen them 4 times in the 2000's. They sound better live now with only 3 original members than they did in this vid & when I saw them in '96. Why? My opinion is: They fuckin' rehearse now. You can tell it. I'm not sure why their harmonies were so off live. Were they too indisciplined as musicians? Were they too drunk or stoned? Were they too depressed due to the nightmare they were going through with Kendall Jones? Maybe a little of each? The guys in this lineup, w/the exception of John Bigham, were high school friends. They went from a group of high school friends to the top, almost. Egos abound. Is Angelo gonna tell Chris that his vocals are flat? Probably not. If you hire new musicians, like the ones in the band now, that changes the dynamic. Bring in new musicians who have their shit together and watch what happens to the work ethic of the original guys. They don't wanna be shown up by some new guy. These new musicians, and I use the term "new" loosely since some of them have been with Fishbone since 2000, are coming in fresh, as opposed to whichever original member who was tired of everybody else's crap. Would I like to see Fish back on the drums, Chris Dowd back on keys/vocals/trombone, and Kendall back on guitar? Well hell yeah but that ain't happenin'. Thanks for letting me ramble.
A friend of mine had tickets to an STP show and they cancelled then too. I guess it could've been one of the shows that you're talking about. I think this concert was going to be in Nashville, Birmingham, or Atlanta. Not sure, obviously. I saw STP on their first tour with fIREHOSE and Butthole Surfers. Butthole Surfers were the headliners! STP played 2nd. They should've first instead of fIREHOSE. I saw STP again in '97 and 2001 I think. The last time I saw them, they opened with Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"!!
Check social media now, it might be happening! Fish posted a photo of original members getting togheter in some kind of meeting. But you are right, the "new" band last years played hard and tight. And they seem to be more mature and professionals
***** I've seen that photo on facebook! I couldn't believe it!! All of them sitting there at a table. They owe it to themselves to put the past behind them and write some new material, go on tour, whatever.
Good live version of Black Flowers, but it's not the same without Kendall, since it was him who did the solo....it's sad that after Kendall left so did Chris, JB and Fish. Fishbone is OK now, but the magic the original band had is gone.....never to return....
swim is out of key, that's just the song, in my humble opinion. i don't know jack about musical technical vernacular....but black flowers is the same....still pleasing to the ear but noticeable on the studio version as well that they're just a touch off. it's no accident, of that i'd be willing to bet. i love fishbone; past, present & looking forward to each new second. they're off just enough to demonstrate the precision of their artistry & expression. rock on, fellas!!! love you, barbie xoxox
like on the change chorus guitar chop part you think they don't know the keyboard sounds stuck in the mud and with a minor in there???? shiiit these motherfuckers are professional
yeah you're right, they chose a crap melody line though, the original is flawless....that one sounds like shit.fishbone annoythe shit out of me,they have amazing albums but sometimes fall flat live.they do a great version of lemon merange on some UK tv show though...just not consistent enough for me.i like it when people vary things when they play live, but a completely different vocal melody line?what the fuck?
their lead guitarist had just quite the band in pretty dramatic fashion weeks before. this I think was one of their first shows without him, and at their peak. the documentary goes into it. he quit and joined a cult and excommunicated himself from his brothers, the band mates tried to kidnap him back. this is one of their first shows after he left the band.
Angelo being Angelo….. Chris D……. The lyrics of their songs are anthems . The best band live…… Crazy energy……….
In my opinion, Fishbone always had the best mosh pits.
Yes. What great memories.
it is a crime they did not go huge....saw them 7-8 times and they blew my mind every time
🙂. They Massive. ✌️🌌
i think the label tried but were limited in their vision of what the band could be...If you remember, they had cameos in a few films, played big festivals, had a video on MTV, were name-dropped on "Goodtime Boys" by rhcp....It would be nice if they would've made some decent money. pretty sure they all still live gig to gig
Best band ever for raw energy, talent and all round musicianship... the original lineup were legends
The greatest most under appreciated band
Black flowers one of the saddest songs ever made.. It makes me cry immediately. But it's so good (If you don't like the live-version try the one from the album. It's the best)
"Black Flowers" and "Swim" are emotional songs. Fishbone wants to share an emotional moment through these songs, which over rides the traditional approach to music. The feel and lyrics of the music are genius.
You have to love these guys. wish i could have seen them in 93.
it was mindblowing. especially if you'd been going to shows in L.A. for a few years leading up to seeing FISHBONE live, because there was Nothing like it at the time.
Swim-is-my-SHT!!! Nothing like hearing Swim live.
One of the best albums of all time
This is a band in pain. Rodney King had just reminded them that being Black in America was very dangerous, and this was a band of LA guys. On top of that, they'd just lost their beloved guitarist Kendall Jones to... Lord knows what, and were down to just one axe man. I justnrealized that halfway through that was only Jon Bingham. moments after apex fishbone.
saw the Bone 6-7 or 8 times during this period....met Angelo once and he was so cool.....this band rocks my soul to the core forever
Smoked up Angelo during a show in NC.. he got me on the bus after the show and a ring of blunts went around the back of the bus till I had to go home.. really exceptional band in every way!

I think i've watched the first minute of this video like a thousand times now. Now i'm gonna watch it another thousand times
I saw these guys a the Crown Vic in Chicago back in the 90's. He swam right over me. They pulled him up to the balcony and he jumped off.
I was there. He jumped off backwards.
I got to see them at lollapalooza 1993 in Nashville. I got sunburned. Lol. Alice In Chains, Primus and lots of others...
Same year, same line up . Minneapolis. good show
I was at the show in North Carolina that year. My first ever mosh pit was during "Swim." Rage Against the Machine was the opener.
I saw them on Lollapalooza with Primus and aic and arrested development. Great show! High As fuck!!
Dat Snare Tone!
Fish Rules!
Yeah these songs are great!! This performance/tour was just after Kendall Jones had his breakdown and left the band. As much as I love these guys, they never seemed quite the same after that. I'd love to hear these guys release something new though!
Exactly. Kendall was great, and so was Chris Dowd, who wrote and sings Black Flowers and left shortly after Kendall.
#favorite...#thankyou #forever
💜❤💙🖤💚💛💖
Love this band
WDR Rocknacht in der Grugahalle - ich war dabei! War toll! :)
Und Biohazard als Ersatz für Mighty Mighty Bosstones, obwohl sie schon am selben Tag auf dem Dynamo gespielt hatten. Hammer-Gig!

Great show as always, thanks for posting.
Could be my two favorite songs by Fishbone!!! NICE!!
Awesome, you rock, Holger.
The chest tambourine is the best part. That dude the soul of the band right there.
Los vi en vivo en Córdoba, año 1999. Que banda x favor!
That weirdness is what makes it work.

One of my best concert ever... Same tour, but in France...
Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Primus, Butthole Surfers, firehose, Thelonious Monster...

and emotion!
I cant remember what year i saw them at Palooza but me and my brother and friend were tripping so fucking hard when they played i was crawling underneath my seat 😆
They were great
These guys have been huge for a long time. Can you guess all the bands and musicians who give credit to them?
@HigherGround86 Nope.. It's after Kendall pulled the crazy card and joined his dad's cult. This song kinda became dedicated to him. During and after Norwood's court battle against Kendall the band would frequently be asked what happened to him and would be quoted as saying he got lost in the forest and that he was a "black flower that lost his way."
:/
He's less crazy now and on good terms with all the guys again though.. Hopefully a reunion is a-brewin'! :D
Kendall was the Man, but JB certainly brought a lot to the table.
MIss it!
GENIAL
Where are the psychedelics background vocals of the original version ? My goosebumps are gone away...
The guitar is simply drowning everything out
Hella musicians

Saw 'em at Lolla that year backstage 3 shows ... what a beautiful mess!

Funny as hell..."Goodnight Motherfuckers!"
No that's JB On Guitar!
Shame, they don’t do Back flowers anymore.
@kaneo67 If you mean the main vocal, not out of key. just singing a different melody line.

STP, and the Bosstones were with them on this tour. I saw them in Frankfurt. STP had cancelled before,...however great live. Seen them 2x since

@eyehatepop of course they look bored. its the WDR - the west german broadcast - and germans were still so fucking inhibited
Haha, next time maybe. I'll work on it in the off-season..
primal shit uuurghh! :P
I like to swim,
Into the mosh
Nah, its the right line just the high harmony is missing for most of it. Don't forget, kendal Jones had left the band at this point....
oh by DA way everyone's back cept Kendall full time....that's Rocky's job far as I know
agree to disagree, sir
Wake up
fatality 07:55
Those people in the front look bored once they start playing Swim. I'd be fucking losing my mind

hahahaha audience are the walking dead
yeah you're right, they chose a crap melody line though, the original is flawless....that one sounds like shit.fishbone annoythe shit out of me,they have amazing albums but sometimes fall flat live.they do a great version of lemon merange on some UK tv show though...just not consistent enough for me.i like it when people vary things when they play live, but a completely different vocal melody line?what the fuck?

Good lord... there vocals are way out of sync and off key
@Tom Brooks Were you their? I didn't realise you where insyNc. Trust me this was a gift to you from FISHBONE!!!!!
That solo was fucking dreadful!
their lead guitarist had just quite the band in pretty dramatic fashion weeks before. this I think was one of their first shows without him, and at their peak. the documentary goes into it. he quit and joined a cult and excommunicated himself from his brothers, the band mates tried to kidnap him back. this is one of their first shows after he left the band.
