People didn't understand it, and I don't understand THAT... They were insane at Lalapaloosa in Orlando. This is one of my very favorite songs. Metal with soul. When I saw them in Naples Florida at a club about 13 years ago, it was a very different, intimate gig. They didn't play Servitude, but they did Swim. This place was two stories tall with a loft and the stage was about a 6" riser, no separation whatsoever from the crowd. They were all crammed up there so Angelo was in the crowd most of the time. He appears in front of me and sticks the mic in my face so I sing along for a few seconds. Then, he locks his hands together and somehow I understand he wants me to launch him up above the crowd so he can surf around, so I did. I bought one of his comics with CD after. I've seen hundreds of shows and sing in bands as well. That was the coolest, most feel good show I've ever been to in my life. Thank you Angelo and Fishbone! I will never forget that.
Most people never learn. There's been music like this for over a 100 years. And almost nobody get the message. They just think its a good song and don't look at the lyrics
So great to hear Chris Dowd stepping out from behind the keyboards to sing. His voice adds such a power to the Fishbone sound that has never been achieved with Angelo's carefree vocal style.
Idk but I like the cut of "old school" bands like this. They built as a ska band but weren't afraid to experiment with other genres and they killed it every single time. Kept it fresh. Kept it original. Most bands are kinda pussies now when it comes to variety. They're pressured by their labels and fans to keep a strict regiment on their sound. This was back when music was allowed to be fun, crazy, and free.
that'a why I love bands like fishbone and faith no more, they made music that they liked , fans and records labels cannot put them in a particular genre
Comments. I guess this guitarist got kicked put of fishbone, because of his christian belefs. But I do honor them for giving him a song. This is my favorite. I saw Angelo shunned at an MTV interview with Maynard from tool. Fishbone should have been honored for what they are. This is an epic group. Fishbone is king.
It occurs to me that with bands relying more on live shows rather than CD sales these days, Fishbone would probably have been the biggest band in the world if they were of this generation.
They play in many styles. So much talent in this band that even though they primarily play funk/ska they just nail the metal genre so well people think they are a metal band. This album is incredible, I highly recommend it!
In support of your statement, many of those bands, to include 311, Sublime, No Doubt and many others were HEAVILY influenced by Fishbone. I would like to correct you on one thing, FIshbone had been on their 5th recording by the time Grunge was going mainstream. They had already smashed a few hundred mosh pits before Nirvana released "Nevermind". They are surely one of the most influential and diverse band in history. RHCP admits to FB being one of their biggest influences!!!
That the Red Hot Chili Peppers are millionaires and Fishbone swim in obscurity sickens me to no end. I played in a band that supported Fishbone on the ROMS tour, just watching them soundcheck with Sunless Saturday was a sight to behold. They were completely motionless and playing harder with more intent than most bands would in a typical show. Fishbone along with the Bad Brains should have taken over the world.
Every track from those days just shows you how incredible a drummer Fish really is. I would love to hear some of the original recordings without the studio processing used on drums during that time.
Seen them a dozen times. In their prime, best live band, hands down. No contest. Fish one played so many styles and killed them all. Could not be forced into a box or label.
this tune alone melts in acid tons of hard rock shit we have been exposed to in the last 30 years... And yet the average metal head who may mistakenly buy a Fishbone album hoping to find something similar, will be doomed to failure, because with Fishbone, each song is a musical genre per se, that's how great they are

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the filming of this video - July 13, 1993. The outdoor shots are from their Lollapalooza set at Waterloo Village in NJ and the club footage is from the Limelight in NYC later that night.
I was at the Limelight performance. The interesting part is that you actually had to buy a ticket to see the Judybats show with King Missile as the opening act and then you could stay for Fishbone. My friend and I were huge King Missile and Fishbone fans, so it was perfect for us. Fishbone brought out guests from Lollapalooza like Tim Alexander from Primus, and members of Alice in Chains and Arrested Development. The club kept warning Fishbone that their time was running out but they kept performing until the club literally cut their power off, ending the show. Awesome night!
