there are many Fil-Ams who have made a mark in Hollywood, what sets Jo Koy apart is the pride he holds on being Pinoy. he rocks! check this out tawapinoy.wordp...
Yes, 12 years ago you showed love to our culture and look what you did Jo Koy, you're so famous can't even buy a ticket for your shows because it's SOLD OUT all the time🇵🇭👍
I am also a mestizo-American and even if I grew up speaking English I had plenty to be insecure about with some ignorant people who think less of Asian/foreign people (my mom). Although it took years of getting used to growing up, I was proud to be pinoy even before ever visiting the Philippines. You don't have to be from the Philippines or be fluent in Filipino languages to be proud. The culture is very strong everywhere I've been since 1984 but never heard much in comedy till Rex Navarette and Jo Koy.
Scott King Lets be honest, everyone is judged harshly by others. Don’t fool yourself into thinking your judged any harsher by your appearance than the rest of us. I walk into a room of people who don’t identify with me and I get snubbed too. In California you can drive one mile and suddenly your life is in danger because your different. Whether it’s your politics, your race or your body weight, or clothing. If your in the wrong bar or restaurant you know it. Don’t get caught up in thinking that anyone else has it easier. I always recommend watching the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer called “earshot”. It’s really eye-opening for many. Too many of us assume that everyone else has it easier for whatever reason.
@@mrs.schmenkman wow just had to be the center didn't you? Let me guess, you're white? U r the only people who don't see color but the minute you're in a space you dont control your life is in danger. Fyi we poc don't want to kill you. We just want you to go away
Just finished reading his biography. Fellow Filipino here. I guess I am Filipino American. He mentioned in one of his chapters that he was on jay leno show. Mabuhay!! Jo koy is really funny!!
I remember watching this live back in the day. What caught my eye was the Filipino flag on his jacket. His Netflix special brought me here when he mentioned about his experience at The Tonight Show, i told myself, I remember that! Good for him on his success.
Great video! My wife and I actually interviewed Jo Koy on our podcast recently! We are regular people that are trying to build something and we were handing out fliers for our podcast in the parking lot of his show and we got a chance to meet him. We talked to Jo about how our flyer got him to do our show and how he landed the tonight show. He is such a great and humble guy!
Im here because I read this on his book Mixed Plate. He talked about how he thought they didnt have time for him to be interviewed but since he got a standiing ovation Jay was gonna let him. Even tho Joaquin Phoenix stile some of hhis time. Get his book its hillarious and heartfelt
Holy shit.. I finally found him.. I actually saw this episode WAAY back then. I remember seeing this bald dude with a jacket and had the Philippine flag stitched on the left chest, but I never knew who was as I never caught the part with him being introduced or his name never said. I just remember thinking, "holy shit, some filipino, or at least someone who like the Philippines, is on Jay Leno. That's insane"
Seeing jo last night brought me here. He mentioned being on the tonight show for the first time and talked about why he selected his outfit. Seems like a very positive individual. Still killing it years later. 👏👍
Came here again after he reminded us of how important this time of his life as a comedian and a Filipino out there and made it! Last night Just Kidding World Tour in Dubai!❤
Same. It's so fulfilling to see how happy he was to be there and nail his act to where he is today. Like him clapping at the start and after he shakes Leno's hand is genuine happiness
@@SimplyCali619 He is too slang. His fellow Filipinos might not immediately get use to his accent and American type of humor. So I guess he needs to adjust his style a bit to adopt to our local culture.
Love Jo! Here after seeing his wonderful big screen movie "Easter Sunday" which is hilarious! So amazing that it happened because Steven Spielberg fell in love with his comedic genius and oversaw the entire project! ❤❤❤👋👋👋👋
And that was directed by the very funny Jay Chandrasekhar of Broken Lizard ("Super Troopers," "Beerfest," et al.) fame. I believe the second film he ever worked on was the very funny "Los Enchiladas!" which was written and directed by the late, great Mitch Hedberg and which was never released officially but is available here on YT. It stars Hedberg and features Dave Attell, Marc Maron, and other comedians who, although well-known now, were either just hitting their stride or were in their prime back then. Anyway I highly recommend it. I just learned that Jay edited that film so it was funny to see his most recent movie mentioned here and thought I'd mention it since it is still so unknown.
Yeah, because you know why? Some poor families doesn't have to that luxury to sit their asses down and watch t.v. and be lazy all damn day! They are outhere making living and trying to figure out where to get their next meal!
Glad to have found this video after Jo Koy said in an interview today here in the Philippines on his tour presscon that he was on Jay Leno, and that his mom was sewing the Philippine flag on his shirt backstage. So nice to see this! 😄
I remember watching this episode when it first aired and I was about to turn the channel but I’m glad I stuck around and watched a Legend in the making! Damn 9 years ago!
This guy is really funny. The Tonight Show was always good for a laugh. Jay Leno did funny creative skits. Laughing is healthy. Now we have venomous political "jokes" and go to bed angry.
Thank you to everyone pointing out the flag. I know it's the Filipino my whole thing is I thought he was going to talk about his Pinoy pride that's what the whole confusion is about.
Shout out to All the pillipinas and pillipinos working their Asses of in hospitals all over the World! They took care of me when i snapped my ankle, got hit on the head by a gasoline tank, they helped deliver my first daughter and also cheered her up when she had her first broken bone! Those people make the World go round, know bout that!
I love you tube because I can always go back in time and see footage from almost anything !! I saw JOKOYwith his first Netflix loved him and just found about his other special and love him even more Representing his culture his success for everybody to see
I noticed that too . Whenever we go to chinese restaurants /buffets , their always in a hurry and sometimes they just point us the table where we going to be seated.
I come back to this clip every couple years. One of the smoothest >5 min sets ever. You can literally see him ride the wave into the next joke. Such a clean, clever set I love it
I just literally found this wonderful comedian this year and he's Asian just like me! I hope he reached Chappelle level of stardom!! Very funny! TING TING..😂😂😂
I wish he made cameos in movies like Stan Lee or took a part in a movie. Man, this guy is hilarious, he deserves more than just a show for his stand up comedy! Plus, he’s a Filipino too, proud to be pinoy 🇵🇭
Hope you've gone to see his big screen movie which just came out and was spearheaded and overseen by Steven Spielberg, it's called Easter Sunday, and it is hilarious!
Seeing some clips recently brought me here.... Love you, Jo, been watching you before your Netflix specials. My son actually introduced me to you. After hearing you saying "vicks vaporub' & knowing you're a Filipino, until now always watching new & old clips in youtube🤟🤟🤟❤❤❤
I just got here after his #inhiselements on Netflix, was kinda disappointed it was only 55 minutes, and to be quite honest the other comedians not that funny.
I’m here because I’m reading his book and he finally made it on this show after years of trying to make it big time. Chapter 11. It’s a really good book Mixed Plate.
@joKoy is great simply because he brings so many different types of culture into his comedy. I think its great to have e everyone be able to laugh together. This is real comedy! 🤘
JoKoy, you're just so hilarious. Am a fan, just a precautionary advise...please avoid fuckin cussin, it may still be taboo/offending for some and also the 'sex-act'. But, other than that, continue bringing laughter to everyone. I like it when you always talk about your mom's ways and you present her in so many ways. Am sure she is so proud of you.
I'm only here because netflix told me he wore the philipine flag on the tonight show.. XD
lol were fucking sheep bro
Rightttt???

Me too
He is not only filipino pride but an asian pride...this guy is just fantastic
FOR THE RECORD: Jo is only a handful of stand ups who made their debut on The Tonight Show with a full standing ovation. HUGE.
Yes, 12 years ago you showed love to our culture and look what you did Jo Koy, you're so famous can't even buy a ticket for your shows because it's SOLD OUT all the time🇵🇭👍
