Making Shadow the center of his own game again to capitalize on his incredible backstory is brilliant and I hope Sonic Team doesn't hesitate to bring Shadow to the forefront more often moving forward. Never underestimate your audience's emotional investment in your characters.
I know people are gonna take issue with Shadow reaffirming he fights with Maria's wish in his heart. But him smiling at the end of his speech gives it new meaning. He isn't just fighting for the sake of her wish or everyone else's happiness. He's finally understanding he's included in her wish too. After all this time.

I played Shadow Generations before getting into Sonic Generations remaster. And when I defeated Shadow as Sonic, I felt so bad when he couldn't stand up. It hits different seeing that scene :'(
I think this might recontextualize Gerald's revenge scheme. Shadow didn't let Gerald in on... any of the future's details, but if Gerald remembered this adventure, he'd probably figure the version of Shadow he met in White Space had never been tampered with. No matter Gerald's vengence, Maria's wish will ensure Black Doom's downfall and the world being saved. If he's going to get revenge, the Professor will have to set events up himself. In other words: The Destiny Trap; you can't change history if you're part of it.
Which is why i think Shadow only toys with the idea of saving them once. I kinda wish the story had revolved around that more but in the end what would be the point? Shadow's still alone. But here, even getting the chance to see them again i think is enough to help him move on. Him crying at the end tells me that. It's a release.
That's exactly what I said hearing him now vs before I t he first sonic generations. Even the reenactment of the SA2 scene of Maria dying sending shadow off, I was taken a back how good it was.

When he first thinks he sees her in the White Space. And oh God when Maria told him why she named him Shadow and his first response was to run? That alone tells us so much about him. And Big the Cat of all characters gets to be the one to meet and hang out with Maria directly. Barring Omega whom I assume didn’t exchange too much with her and Gerald, the fisherman got to know the most important person in Shadow’s life and he just happens to be there as someone who got dragged into a situation he’s got no personal stake in no less. He gets to meet the very reason for Shadow’s being and he treats her like she’s just a fellow person who happens to be stuck in the same weird location as him in the most Big the Cat fashion possible.
Yeah since Stardust Speedway and Crisis City were taken from futures that no longer exists with the former being its Bad Future counterpart and the latter because Sonic 06 was erased from history but Classic Metal was likely taken from a point in time prior to Sonic CD and Silver was likely taken when he was going to be at Sonic’s Birthday Party and he had the White Chaos Emerald already on hand.

I love Shadow’s story so much my favorite moments were Shadow getting to see Maria and Gearld again,the epic fight scene between Sonic and Shadow and hearing the references from past games SA2 and Sonic Heroes and the bittersweet ending the animation in the cutscenes were amazing and Kirk did a fantastic job voicing Shadow in this game 👍🦔🖤💙

Though it could be either an amused one because he was not expecting to see him alongside Gerald and Maria or he remembers Big and might have a little soft spot for the guy as a simple fisherman just enjoying the simplicity of life. I think that scene alone shows how far we’ve moved away from the days of Meta Era/Jerkass Shadow who would probably sneer or be rude to him because Meta Era Shadow has no time for pleasantries. I'm pretty sure that the games or comics have confirmed that the Chaos Emeralds can transform into light and vice versa at will of their user. Same with the Super Emeralds, Master Emerald, Sol Emeralds, and Soul Rings.

That or they could give us a Sonic villain archetype that we haven’t seen before in the games. We have mad scientists, rogue robots, eldritch abominations and alien invaders. He isn't talking about that. Shadow earlier acknowledged that he defeated him already. He's talking about "learned from our last encounter." The question is simple to get. Shadow wants to know what Black Doom has in store. Hearing about it sends Shadow into a rage that Maria has to calm.
Actually didn't Shadow in the manga (chapter 2) got into white space right after Maria saves him? This would mean there are 2 Shadows(Like Sonic and Classic) or Shadow got mixed up with his past version sometimes messing with his memories. But I'm pretty sure he got into white space and there was also the Ark level there. This means he git pushed from many different times and became only one in white space or he switches between this past Shadow sometimes. Also a proof of that is that Gerald answered that he must have defeated Black Doom in the future but he already said to him in the first meeting he destroyed him once and would do it again. Of couse, it's a theory, but not impossible👍

I think it’s because with the original Generations, apparently Big was supposed to show up for it but didn’t make the cut and his inclusion here might be a nod to that along with the fact he used to share a voice actor with Omega.

I'm glad this game happened. It took almost 2 DECADES, but finally, FINALLY Shadow got the closure he truly deserved.

Let us get to see the Real Shadow kick Boom Shadow’s ass and showing him who’s the True Ultimate Lifeform.
That or they could give us a Sonic villain archetype that we haven’t seen before in the games. We have mad scientists, rogue robots, eldritch abominations and alien invaders.
We don’t have an evil sorcerer, a Cobra Commander type terroriser, a crime boss who’s more than fit to be able to stand toe to toe with the cast if push comes to shove, a mad monk or a Khan Noonien Singh type super soldier with superior ambitions for world domination to name a few examples of what we don’t have in the mainline series.

He isn't talking about that. Shadow earlier acknowledged that he defeated him already. He's talking about "learned from our last encounter." The question is simple to get. Shadow wants to know what Black Doom has in store. Hearing about it sends Shadow into a rage that Maria has to calm.
Actually didn't Shadow in the manga (chapter 2) got into white space right after Maria saves him? This would mean there are 2 Shadows(Like Sonic and Classic) or Shadow got mixed up with his past version sometimes messing with his memories. But I'm pretty sure he got into white space and there was also the Ark level there. This means he git pushed from many different times and became only one in white space or he switches between this past Shadow sometimes. Also a proof of that is that Gerald answered that he must have defeated Black Doom in the future but he already said to him in the first meeting he destroyed him once and would do it again. Of couse, it's a theory, but not impossible👍

I think it’s because with the original Generations, apparently Big was supposed to show up for it but didn’t make the cut and his inclusion here might be a nod to that along with the fact he used to share a voice actor with Omega.
