    I have the same lens and really like it. I have also noticed the smudging at f1.4. So I doubt it’s just your copy. I’ve noticed the effect is most pronounced when focusing to infinity but that could just be because more of the image ‘should’ be sharp.

    Thanks for the great review! I was told that it's pretty much identical with that old-classic Zeiss super speed lens, so I'm really curious🧐

      @fernandonascimento213 3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately it's not identical between this two lenses, in terms of speed (f/1.2 ), price ($$$) and bokeh. This lens, at f/2 it has a "ninja star bokeh and the superspeed, a triangle bokeh.

    The last bit about the lens comparisons is one way to look at it. When you get your hands on a real set of Super Speeds, you see the real differences. However I still own my CZ set and live their imagery.

    Love this video! Would you say this lens is easy to focus on digital cameras? I've always used vintage lenses on my A7ii but I've been debating whether to move to the autofocus Zeiss or get a manual Zeiss

    • @AustinInSeoul
      @AustinInSeoul  3 года назад +2

      Actually have a vid about that coming later. If you use red focus peaking on black and white then it is super easy to focus accurately :) definitely go for the manual if the budget is tight

    I have the 28 2.8. I use it on my Canon r6 often. I wish there was a reasonable way to adapt it to my nikon f3.

    That's a nice review of a good lens. I own one and I like it from f4 onward. At f8, it's tack sharp. At wide open aperture, it's ghastly in the edges. Smudgy soft, bokeh is cat's eye shaped, has heavy chromatic aberration, and all the other good stuff that will make most people shy away from shooting it wide open, ever. In any case, it's a good lens to have and use. I plan to sell it every now and then, and then change my mind. They have been out of production and recently got pricier.

    • @AustinInSeoul
      @AustinInSeoul  2 года назад +2

      Right, I can agree at f8 it's quite something. Best lens to use for night street photography for film though!

    Nice video, thanks. There is one thing to mention about the lens: It's not a f1.4 lens. It's a t1.4. That means it's much brighter. f stop tells you how much light is theoretically hitting the camera sensor. t stop tells you how much light actually is hitting the sensor after getting absorbed inside the lens and getting reflected by the glasses inside the lens. A f1.8 for example equals a t2.2 lens. The planar t1.4 equals let's say a f0.8 lens. I own this lens and it's one of the brightest lenses I've ever worked with. It has the visual characteristics of a modern cinema lens, but is very light weight. Perfect for working with gimbals.
    Cheerio

    • @AustinInSeoul
      @AustinInSeoul  2 года назад

      Ahh that would explain why it always said f1.2 in my film camera light sensor. Thanks for the good info! Completely agree, love using it on gimbals too💪

    Halation you talk about is chromatic aberrations. Halation is only film not digital. How’s the focus? Is it dampened or is it loose like modern photo lenses?

    • @AustinInSeoul
      @AustinInSeoul  2 года назад

      Thanks for the info! My copy is pretty smooth, a lot more dampened than modern glass

    How does it compare with the 50mm f1.7, which is considered to be very sharp.? Thanks

    • @AustinInSeoul
      @AustinInSeoul  2 года назад

      the 50mm 1.4 is my sharpest lens. stopped down to f2.8-4 it's pretty crazy. the f1.7 version might just appear sharper since you don't have f1.4, f2 apertures.

    How does this compares to the Super takumar f1.4?

    • @Fjalll
      @Fjalll 2 года назад

      The Super Takumar is the better lens over all. Personally I prefer the bokeh of the Pentax. One of the best vintage lenses you can get. Particularly the 8 element version of this lens.

    I am sportjournalist.I have a Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f 1.1.4 lens that I use with my Contax RTS film camera. I want to use it on my Sony Nex mirrorless camera with a suitable adapter. What will the result be in terms of performance?
