Jennifer I have a solution even better than the neck light (in my opinion) you ought to try. I'm almost completely blind and have issues with needing more light. I use this crafting and jewelers head lamp off amazon. It's white and has a two brightness level led light. It also has five or six magnification lenses that look like glasses lenses that can pop in for up to 5× magnification. You don't have to use those though. It's only like $16 and worth every cent. It's called a rechargeable head magnifier. The brand I use is yoctosun.

I have a broomstick hand made hook/needle by my grandfather from an old broom. It’s probably 60 years old. It’s a treasure that I use when I make broomstick lace crochet.

I’m an inline girl straight Susan Bates that’s what I started out with, I’ve tried others and I don’t go as fast with others. Also, I’m a pencil holder I tried the other way and I don’t know how y’all do It. Have a great day!!!

I had to laugh when you said you didn’t know what an inline hook was til recently. 😊 I didn’t either! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Geez, when I learned to crochet, MANY years ago, there were only CROCHET HOOKS! 🤣🤣🤣 Now there are so many different hooks, different yarns ...... so many choices! You gave great reviews on both the crochet hooks and the knitting needles! Thanks Jen! ❤️🥰❤️

The poncho you’re wearing is so pretty!! Enjoyed hearing your answers, I find this interesting. I have all the types of Furls and the wooden ones the only I use occasionally. Not worth the money in my book. Just pretty to look at. I used to use Susan Bates for years but I’m a Clover girl now!!! Thanks Secret Yarnery Christa! I can crochet so much faster and easier with the Clovers. Totally agree about the neck light. I never use my light up hooks.
My favorite needles are Knitters Pride birch wood Interchangeable ones. Except for socks - that’s Chaiogoo all the way.

I was so glad to see that you did this tag. I created it and I actually tagged you in my video when I first put it out. LOL! I am beyond stoked to see it circulating this much! I absolutely love the carousel that your hooks and supplies are in. My sister bought me two of the pink/gold Furls Odyssey hooks and I have such a hard tie using them. But I do try to always use them a little bit. I am so happy to see everyones answers and I feel like I have definitely been schooled because i apparently wasn't explaining the inline and tapered correctly.

I found a good use for that tiny steel hook that you showed. When I get a pick or a snag in my clothing, I insert that tiny hook from the underside of the material, catch the pull or snag with the hook, and pull it through to the back of the material. Usually, after doing that, the piece of clothing looks as if nothing had happened!

I agree that the Chiao Goo needles are the very best, but I also love the Knitter's Pride Interchangeable Zing needle tips and cables. They are extremely smooth and the cables don't have memory and they are less expensive. I order them from Webs in different tips and cable sizes and they probably sell them in sets too. Thanks, that was a great video.

I've tried Furls but I really can't use inline (but I love my lime green hook!!). Clover and Tulip are my favourites. Now needles are very much dependent on what I'm using them for. For straights I love my Signatures. I have a straight set in each of the 3 lengths. There is also nothing better for DPNs. They have micro groves so they don't slide out of your stitches. Signature are pricey but amazing!! I don't love their convertibles. Their cables only fit on the corresponding needle tip size so it gets extra pricey to get all the sizes. I too love my Chiaogoo but also love my Dyakcraft. Both are lovely to work with but Chiaogoo are more pointy. Sorry I'm so wordy but I love my tools!!!!!

I love Furls Odessy and now own one of every size. And I have some nice ergonomic hooks, including Addi Swing, but they're nothing like the Furls that glide like a hot knife through butter, and the stitches... And the best part, they don't aggravate my arthritis.
    Thanks for the review.

  • @karenstrachan287

I totally agree about the Furls hooks. Before my husband passed away, he got me some Odyssey and Streamline Swirls and I love them both. I plan on getting the new navy blue Odyssey plus the supernova Swirls for myself for Mother's day. I also have Clover Amour hooks and some Pony Ergonomic. I find that which I use depends on my yarn and project. When I use Red Heart yarn I use my Pony Ergonomic. I got a open size gauge and always check for mm size because some of my old hooks (a couple from mom and some from garage sales) do not have mm sizing and the knitting needle sizes don't work row hooks. Clover and Hobbii both make the hook sizer I swear by.

Furls are my favorite too, but I have mostly wooden hooks. They are less expensive and extremely light (vs heavy). The dark colors are beautiful, but the light colors make crocheting with dark yarn easier. I also bought a set of relatively cheap changeable circular knitting needles that work OK, but the connection of the wire to the bracket(?) sometimes grabs the yarn. I'm not a huge fan of the super pointy needles, but if anyone has a suggestion for a circular set that has a smoother transition, I'm all ears. Love your videos Jen!!

They ARE perfect for adding beads to projects....
I'm a chiaogoo red LACE fan all the way!! (Red is not as sharp)I'm saving to get the interchangeable....
    I love knitting with fingering...😊

I'm a Bates girl. I also love the inline just because they make more consistent stitches and grab the yarn better at least I think so. I have a set of interchangeable in rainbow wood like yours but mine is a Knitters Pride/Knit Pro set. I have the basic set, the chuncky set and even the tunisian set. Got them because they are beautiful, use them because I love them. I have also heard of Chaigoo but have never tried it. Was thinking of getting the minis for my socks! 💕And... and... I knit exactly like you do continental holding the yarn like crochet💕

I did not know about the rough yarn on the odyssey. I've had my hubby sandpaper some of my hooks... making most of them worse. Been there, done that. My fave size is F/3.75mm. ♡ I have Japanese steel hooks from sizes 15 to 22. They are so sharp/piercing that they literally split sewing thread... and yes, I love to crochet with sewing thread on occasion.

Good morning from ☀️ Florida! I use Auear aluminum ergonomic hooks because I have small hands and they have a small shank on them. My favorite hook sizes are a 5.5 and a 6.0. I learned on a 5.0 Susan Bates hook back in 1970. I am a knife holder for my hook. I don’t hand knit but I use a large flat Bond 60 needle knitting machine, which is much faster.

My favorite metal set was only ChiaoGoo but I added Knitter's Pride Kindness for a 4" set and I have now added the Kollage interchangeable square. I could never choose a favorite between any of them. I have got several other sets but these 4 are the ones I use except for my take along projects. I have other sets I use only for that because I am not going to lose any of these 4 sets.

I bought a Furls through Amazon was $114.20 here in Australia. I’m going to order Clover hooks and try. I’ve just bought the LED hooks and not keen will try the neck light.

Thanks for the reviews! I knit Barbie clothes with sock weight yarn and I use those really tiny hooks to pick up dropped stitches and take knots out of the fine yarn. My mom used to crochet fine lace and she used some pretty small hooks for that (I kept all of her crochet hooks after she passed, and I am intending to make use of them!) I’m currently enjoying using Clover bamboo knitting needles. I think the metal needles are faster, but I like the warmth of the wood in my hands. I recently bought a set of ChiaoGoo 3mm stainless DPNs and I wish the points were slightly more pointed, it’s a bit difficult getting them under the finer #1 weight yarns.

I am using a 00 now for a lace project, and I find myself putting the work down a lot, because my hands get sore. Ergonomic small hooks would be a nice addition for me.

I have a set of ergonomic steel hooks from either Tulip or Clover. I can't remember which and I am not where I can look.
