    While not the best ride by far at Cedar Point, Top Thrill Dragster is the most intense and amazing ride that you'll encounter there. The sheer height coupled with an amazing launch, makes this an absolute must ride...even if it only lasts 17 seconds!

    Every now and than I watch this video. Cause it reminds me of my holiday to America. It was such a good time. I'm from Holland. And we love rollercoasters as this one. And the song of the video is brilliant too.

    I'm from holland. And my friend and I have been to cedar point two weeks ago. Cause I am a rollercoaster fan. It was worth the trip! What an amazing ride this is!!! One of the best rollercoasters in the world. Though it looks scarier when you look at it then when you ride it.

    I went to Cedar Point for the 1st time last summer. I was so darn scared to go on this ride, but I knew I had to go on it at least once before we left. In the line-up, I was shaking, but once I got in the seat - I was ready to go!
    The worst part of the whole thing was when it slowly pulls you back, then you sit there, then it launches you! The view from the very top is incredible!

  • @SourPicklez
    @SourPicklez 16 лет назад

    Haha I will never forget how scared shitless I was to ride this when I first seen it, after I got enough courage to go on it I must say I rode it over and over again the next few days I was visiting Cedar Point! Simply amazing rush being on this ride but nothing compares to the first time being on it, it was the best :D ; Great vid!

    Perhaps not this ride alone, but Raptor, Magnum, Millennium Force, Maverick, Skyhawk, maXair, Power Tower, and Top Thrill Dragster make it worth the drive. Best collection of coasters in the world.

  • @mccormackxl200

    Wow. The ending...that was difficult. I set up the shot the night before using cracks in the midway so I knew where to place my tripod the next day, used no zoom on the camera, and I had to remember the angle I was shooting (most difficult). It took about an hour to get the perfect shot the next day. All for about 3 secs of a pretty awesome fade from night to day. Thanks for your comments!

    Oke, now I understand. When we were there the top thrill dragster was also not working all the time. Almost when we went on it it broke down. But after 20 minutes we could ride it. It was awesome!!! Now I think we we're very lucky. We came from Holland especially for this one!

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  16 лет назад +1

    Actually, the ride has become remarkably more reliable over the past two seasons, narrowly missing 1 million riders in 2006 and finally surpassing the mark in 2007. It was only in its first season that it was nearly shut down in July. It was, though, a huge headace for the park, as well as guests, the first few seasons.

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  16 лет назад

    I've ridden this many times. The pull up and pull out are designed in such a way that you don't feel more than 4-5Gs. The wind, while at 120MPH, isn't really that that excessive. And while some may say its VERY similary to Stealth...TTD is over 2x as tall. There is a photo out there somewhere taken from the top of Dragster during the construction looking down on Magnum (205 ft tall) and wow, you can truly see the height difference.

  • @MFRoosy16
    @MFRoosy16 14 лет назад

    just got done riding this yesterday and the day before. 6 times. the lines have died down since i was last there in 2006. only broke down 3 times. i guess technology there geting better.......... still the best coaster on earth its like its a fake tower just siting in the park and at night its a beautiful display . the dragster. going again next year. senior trip.

  • @mccormackxl200

    Quite true. They are two different designs by two different manufacturers. I think a lot of ppl who have ridden both TTD and Ka have all agreed that Ka is a bit rougher. Also, many have said that the feeling of freedom in the restraints, T-bar vs. OTSR makes TTD a much more enjoyable ride.

    This ride is so tall, they literally had to put lights on it to warn air traffic.

    • @Alex-wn5rc
      @Alex-wn5rc 4 года назад

      Any structure over 200 ft tall must have a light, which is why the tower of terror is 199 ft tall, so it wouldn't disrupt the theming

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  16 лет назад

    Actually, the "steam" you see is from the cables being wet. Intamin never anticipated that the cables would get as hot as they do during constant launches at 120 MPH. There isn't a sleeve or anything else inbetween the cables and the track. Towards the end of the launch Cedar Point placed "hidden" garden hoses that help keep the cables cooler. You can still see where they are located due to the fact that there is constant dripping in that area.

  • @mccormackxl200

    You feel perfectly safe. The restraint is a T bar, and the top of the T is curved slightly so that it conforms to your legs. The hydrolic locking mechanism allows for you to pull it as tight as you want it to be. Believe me, you ain't going no where on that ride.

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  17 лет назад

    Not sure if you are aware of this or not, but KBF is owned by Cedar Fair, the parent company to Cedar Point. Xcelerator was effectively the trial run between Intamin and CF with this technology. Dragster debuted the year after.

    Yep, Intamin AG of Switzerland. The design isn't "copyrighted" per se, and is owned by the manufacturer, so in theory, anybody could build a "Dragster" type coaster if they had the funds to do so.

    I will say, and I'm not an engineer, but its possible that the added supports that Ka has that Dragster doesn't in the pull-out, could be what causes the rougher ride. The track sways a lot on TTD, sending any vibration down the single 'I' support into the ground, whereas the supports on Ka are in an '/\' shape thus causing minimal track swaying, but in turn that energy has to go somewhere and I think it goes into the trains.

    I got to ride this over the summer. By far my favorite coaster in the park. But if you're looking for a smoother and calmer ride, Millenium Force is almost as good. Though both have lines that seem stretch on forever.

  • @barichm0
    @barichm0 15 лет назад

    It also depends where you're seated. If you're seated in the first car, the hill is bland. If you're seated in the last car, you'll always get airtime -- the question is how much and how intense.
    Because of that, I recommend the front seat OF THE LAST CAR.
    I also recommend going on days of the year when school is in session (and NEVER Saturdays) for short lines so you can ride it repeatedly.
    I rode it 10 times last October and found that the front seat OF THE LAST CAR is the best.

    Top Thrill rolls back more often than Kingda Ka does. Because Ka has brakes at the top of the apex, they're able to "over speed" the launch so that it more easily clears the top.

    I havn't riden this one, but I have riden stealth, which is VERY similar. Not as tall and only goes 80mph, but still its one heck of a ride! So much adrenaline! I don't think blacking out is an option for these types of rides! They are over so quickly, but they are definatly a must do!

  • @mccormackxl200

    HXLC is only similar to TTD in that it launches and has a vertical hill. That's it. HXLC was one of the most painful coasters I'd ever been on. Its launch is intense, sure, but the rest of the ride is jerky. TTD's launch, albeit, 3.8 sec, is a long time in comparison. XLC practically launches you into the hill. Its no wonder the ride is up for sale. And the name is mccormackXL200. It's a play on words on the Magnum XL-200 coaster, now my #2 favorite coaster.

    Yes, they are both designed by Intamin AG of Switzerland. There are only a handful of steel coaster designers in the world anymore. Intamin is one of the best. It's not that big of a surprise that they would build rides for different parks/companies. The biggest concern is with a competing company blatently stealing anothers idea, and having the same manufacturer build it.

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  17 лет назад

    I think CP wanted to break the height barrier, arguably held by Superman: The Escape (tallest point of 415', but the car only reaches perhaps the 350', but I'm not going to get into that) at Six Flags Magic Mountain. After SF saw what CP did, and they have admitted this, they copied TTD's blue prints, in which Intamin had control over, and added a few feet, and a hill. This was a brand new coaster design that CP had implemented and SF didn't have the creativity to break the record any other way.

    While I haven't ridden Kingda Ka, I've read and heard many complaints about Kingda Ka. Whether its how rough it is, or complaints about the restraint system, or the lack of imagination with regards to the construction of the ride, I have not heard as much praise for the ride as I have heard for Dragster.

  • @mccormackxl200
    @mccormackxl200  15 лет назад

    It depends on how fast you're going over the top...slower trains won't produce the air-time, while oversped trains do give you a slight as you crest back down.

    I live in LA near Magic Mountain and thought that park was supreme until I went to Sandusky and rode this thing. I hate to admit it but Top Thrill Dragster is massively ill and kicked my butt. That said, I still recommend Ohioans to roll out to the Mountain to ride X, which is just as good for different reasons.

    To quote Westhamsterdam: 'Rita is an old ride'
    You need to get your facts straight, Rita is only a year old, Stealth is less than a year old, they are both alot rougher than nemmy which is 12 yrs old, oblivion, 8 yrs old, and inferno, 4 years old.
    Rita is nowhere near the end of her life as a coaster.

    Intamin's steel coaster track have a very recognizable design. Just Google image search for 'intamin' and 'track', and you'll see more pictures of what Intamin's look like. Maverick is a creation of IntaRide, the American based segment of Intamin of Switzerland. But, its basically the same company.

  • @Lukeboss169

    the most horrible thing is that here you can't feel your body fully fastened to the seat. In Germany, I think the name is Silver Star, your shoulders are sticked to a back of a seat and here it is really scary because you feel only your legs being fastened.

    lol at the Cedar point fan's comment, "whtever the point makes no1 can ever beat it." Now, I love Cedar Point, but don't rule out other rides just because they aren't at the point. But yes, IMO dragster is better because of the no shoulder restraints and I don't think that bunny hill really gives that much airtime.
