The video show the process of the spawning of a trio of M. costae tetras to fry 7 weeks old from the free swimming stage. Best viewed in HD and cast onto a TV screen.
Great video ,really interesting to see the stages of development.of this huge spawn. They are a beautiful fish.I noticed on a previous video you had a group of diamond Tetras. Will you be attempting to breed those. They are a massive favourite of mine.Thankyou
Thank you and yes I hope to spawn the Diamonds later on in the year. The problem I have at the moment is that out of a group of six fish I’ve only got one female! Hopefully she’ll fill up with eggs but I’ll also keep my eyes out to obtain some more females in the future.
Nice video, would love to hear how you culture your infusoria and especially seperating it from the culture to add to the tanks, looks like a good harvest with the pint glass that you show here?
I use Gram Flour to feed the cultures which is available online or from many Asian stores. I simply dissolve a very small amount to a small bottle and add it to the culture using just enough to make the culture slightly milky. Just be careful not to add too much or you’ll foul the culture. Other hobbyists use yeast or liquid fry food to feed the culture but the Gram flour works best for me. As far as feeding it to the fry I pick out a bottle where the water is clear, and heavy with infusoria, and simply syphon out a ‘cloud’ of infusoria into a half-pint, or pint glass, using airline tubing and then feed it directly to the fry. The culture is then topped up using aquarium water and fed with the Gram flour mix. I have a number of cultures that are rotated on a daily basis to feed the fry. Hope this helps?
just picked up a group of 16 of these had them a few days now, they were in the shop a good few months and put on decent size already I noticed the spawning this morning in the plant's, do you know if they are mostly wild caught or captive bred the ones that are in the shops, great video bye the way
I guess they are most,y commercially bred these days. You can see from the video how prolific they can be - many hundreds of fry from just one female 👍
I’m afraid there is no other external differences in the sexes. The females are generally larger than the males and noticeably heavier in the stomach when full of eggs.
lol believe me the music is better sounding than my voice. Listen to my voice on the fish room videos and I think you’ll agree. Also the comments are more easily understood by an international audience than my Liverpool accent.
Great video

Nice 👌🏼
Beautiful fish. All of those fry from just one female?
Yes one female - hard to believe but true 🤓

Really cool. Have a group of 10 that I'm gonna try with in a bit. Apart from the belly, can you tell the sexes apart by color, finage or something?

@@PaulsFishroom OK, that's all I can see as well. Cheers.
Can you do a long update video?
Sorry they have all been sold now. I sell them as young adults not the “fry” that you see for sale not like the fry size that are sold in most LFS
Not like the small “fry” size most tetras are sold in LFS today…
Love your informative video. But rather hear your explanations than the stupid Muzak in the background.
