I just wish they create a large of interesting 'Achievements list' to keep us return back to play the game and explore it deeper and deeper, that kept me busy and happy playing the the Forest VR till the end (using HTC Elite XR & KAT WALK C2+ it was fantastic! the best experience! its like going to the GYM after running, walking, and fighting in the game for like ~2 hours in every session!)
I bought this recently and play everyday with a few friends and this is my opinion (not a proper reveiw just some random thoughts). The game looks beautiful even on low graphics, the sound design is great and can be terrifying at times, more than 4 players can slow down your computer a fair bit so i reccomend switching to lower graphics when playing with friends, the combat is satisfying most the time and i HIGHLY reccomend using the parry a lot, the bulding and log harvesting is very nice but takes ages especially when doing it yourself, The caves feel well designed and have some terrifying enemies, hunting is a little bit too easy as you run faster than most animals, Kelvins a G and can be very helpful but also a bit dumb.
I know this is written awfully but I just wanted to give some thoughts. For a 50-ish AUD game I give it a 8/10 and it's only gonna get better wit frequent updates.

I loved the forest but never finished the story but had a lot of fun building my base and finding caves I think that is worth the buy I got it on sale as everyone knows with my channel I love how they changed the building in this game and I learned to hit them in the head with a spear but you be the judge and try it I guarantee you will love it if you love the forest it is definitely worth the price I paid $23 was well worth it so happy I got it been playing none stop have fun and have a bless day!!!!
I bought it on launch day, the game was very raw but it was cool, only problem was the horrible optimization. I'll see if I download it again to see if it's good

Waiting for console release so I can get the full experience, hopefully when it’s ready for console they will have added everything or most things they wanted by that point
I recently saved up to buy a mid range desktop and let me tell you this game is beautiful, amazing, interesting I love it. I have been anticipating since 2021 and I finally got to play it. This and Icarus (which surprisingly runs well) are my current perma games.
I was thinking of gett Icarus . but all that DLC turnrf me off. its to much and it does not look as good as SOns.
can you tell me is Sons of the Forest better and Icarus?

in release state the game felt empty and boring as hell, now, a few updates later, it feels a little bit better but i would rather wait for a little more, maybe autumn this year.
The story is a complete a**pull and a straight middle finger into the lore from the 1st game. I'll give the game a 6/10 now
definitely going to wait for the 1.0 version of the game. why pay full price for a pre release lol

Now if I may I'll add my input. 250+ hours in, I'll tell you what I have done and my experience so far.
He's 100% right, it's not a good idea to go for the story at the moment, you can do it way too quickly, grab all the items on your way, and you're done in about 10 hours.
So, the game is only good for people who want to build, and by build I mean imagine the biggest, greatest base possible and put a ton of hours in it. During your building, you will experience attacks of 4 to 6 enemies of various kinds every 2,3 in-game days. Before day 100 or so, they will be easy to deal with. All of them will stay easy, which kinda sucks because you are only getting more and more defenses and preparation to deal with.. well, nothing. Only the ones called puffies become the damage sponges and deal way too much damage.
After you finish your wonderful base, you will probably want to fill it up with food and materials you find in camps and caves close by. Once you've filled it up, it hits you... "What now?" "I've put so much time into this, but the game still doesn't offer any challenge nor incentive to keep going."
The same enemies keep spawning and you keep dealing with them in same way... They don't increase in number, nor they attempt different tactics to kill you and damage your base.
Only deer and moose drop the same kind of skin you can use for the useless armor that gets taken off by 2,3 hits from a cannibal or even more from a mutant. That being said, and keeping in mind that enemies are way too easy to deal with (or simply run away from, because you are extremely fast from the start of the game), there are no predators in the woods. What's worse is that developers have stated that they don't plan to include predatory animals in the game at all.
To top it all of, survival is way too easy. There is food to be found everywhere, and your character can carry a huge amount of it. Water as well. Before the last patch, you could drink from any source, and not get sick or infected. After the patch, you take like 2% of your health bar as damage, and that's it, no additional effects. It's ridiculous.
Sons of the Forest is still far, far away from being as good as The Forest.
By no means do I want to disrespect the game, after all, I did put a huge amount of time into it, but I hope this little review helps someone decide if it's for them or not.
The game is stunningly beautiful, the animations are all right, fighting and shooting are pretty good and have a decent skill curve. If you have any imagination, you will get immersed and time will fly by.
If anyone cares to ask, or is interested in building ideas from someone who's spent over 1500 hours in the Forest and 250 hours in Sons of the Forest, I'll be happy to reply and suggest things that are going to make your gameplay interesting and much less tedious.

Very helpful information, indeed. You should also send this to the developers as it may give them more ideas of what they should add or change about the game. Hopefully, they add more rare spawn predatory mobs and give some sort of rewards for defeating them. They can even add some sort of rewarding system/incentives for playing the game, end game content, for that matter. Thanks for the info, mate.

There has been no news in regards to a console release as of yet, but I'm sure they will mention it when the game is closer to being finished.
Ye i will assume Endnight will focus for now on polishing SOTF on PC till they are comfortable. And then eventually let it out on Consoles. Same with what they did to The Forest

It's not very good if you were a fan of part 1.
Wait for 6 months. It looks beautiful, but its still a little empty. When this got released into early access, they did so cos they couldnt hit their full release target date. They said it will need a few months of early access to get it right. Here we are a few months in and there's still nothing to do. Build a base,. Ok. Done that. Explore the caves. Ok Done that. Follow the story through and get airlifted of the island. ok done that. Feel empty cos there's still very little to this after a few months of development. Doing that now.

What a stupid title, that game came out in 2023.
Not worth it in 2023, also not worth it in 2024.
