  • Hello everyone and welcome back!
Today is a very special day, the replacement of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is finally here.
Welcome everyone, to my 2007 Volvo S80 V8!
I’ve always lusted over the brand of Volvo and have always wanted to have ownership of one.
What a better way to start than a V8 Volvo!

Hey bro, hope you're having a wonderful time.
I'm from Colombia and here in my country there are just about 15 s80s and about 6 are v8, Volvo is quite the brand here, even more normal ones are quite rare and I have the opportunity of buying one of the 6 v8s that exists here for cheap, like 6.000usd, here those cars even being a 2.5 are worth at least 10.000usd but the one I'm looking at is salvage title, the guy isnt very comunicative by chat but says it's 100% functional and mechanically ok, the car doesn't seem crashed in the fotos so I think one of 3 options 1: was stolen and recovered 2: flooded 3: mechanically totaled. The car has 50.000 miles more or less but unknown service records, etc looks decent enough but let's say it's had the worst owner possible, is it really reliable? What can go wrong or what should I look for? The idea is to daily it. Where can I buy part for a good price and what have been your experience mechanically with your car?
      Thank beforehand.

@@juansebastianhurtado3328 Hi, I live in Europe and here the V8 version is also very rare. I've always done the annual inspections at an official dealership and maybe that's why I've never had any breakdowns. Mine has 504000 kilometers traveled and zero mechanical failures. Think carefully before you buy, this car is fantastic without breakdowns but when it breaks down repairs can be costly. As far as I know 90% of the V8 units produced went to the USA and that must be where you can find cheaper parts.

Great choice! Rare car, they only made about 8000 V8s between 2007 and 2010. I have a 2010 V8 Executive (~1/300) and absolutely love it - similar features to yours, but some extra things standard like massaging and ventilated "sovereign hide" seats, a clock inside the dashboard wood trim, wood console and steering wheel, an S80 crest on the c-pillar, a 650W Dynaudio sound system with Dolby surround sound, and different wheels. Unfortunately, mine didn't come with the rear seat fridge or adaptive suspension. I'm happy you like yours and I'm happy to see more content on these V8s!

    i own the s80 v8 myself aswell,
the noise i hear is normal for this engine ( tho it might be different in real life due to the mic in the camera, youtube processing, my headphones and everything else)
if it is not the "normal" sound than it will most likely be the power steering pump/bearing or a belt tensioner bearing as these are known to fail with their location in the engine bay giving them the full heat of the motor
another comment stated the AC compressor but i dont think thats it because my dieing compressor sounded very different (like a non oiled sewing machine more or less)
the pump can be easily identified by putting the car in park or neutral keeping the engine at around 2k rpm and turning the steering wheel, if its the pump you will hear the sound very clearly vary in both pitch and volume
    also a warning
DO NOT TUNE THIS CAR ENGINE!
the engine has been limited from factory at 440NM of torque because of the transmissions rating of 450NM max.
this is already at the breaking point of both the gearbox and the angle gear and spline for the AWD.
tuning this engine will break very expensive stuff very shortly after installing the tune ;)
or just find someone to build you a transmission and awd driveline that's up to the task and go for it, would love to see that actually

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this all up, amazing to come across another S80 V8 owner! 😁
After making the video and listening to other S80 V8’s online, I think the noise is normal after all.
I’m taking my car to a garage at the start of next year, so I guess they’ll find out what the issue is. Only when the aircon is on, you will hear that metallic grinding noise, maybe the aircon needs redoing?
I will give the pump method a try tomorrow!
I will most certainly not be tuning it don’t worry, I’ve seen lots of posts on that! I would like to dyno my S80 though, it does feel a little slower than I was expecting and I’ve struggled to keep up with some very ordinary cars.

    • @GoldenCroc
      @GoldenCroc Год назад

Just a sidenote regarding tuning, I dont advocate for or against, but it is quite impossible to increase torque by much via just tuning on a 4.4 naturally aspirated V8 such as this. Torque is mostly just a factor of BMEP, which is just about static in non-boosted engines. You can also look at it from the other perspective, that is that tuning a NA engine does just about nothing, certainly not something that can be readily felt with just a "butt dyno", disregarding the placebo effect. Cheers.

Great looking car Nathan and very good choice, especially being a Volvo as well. Apart from getting the car professionally detailed both inside and outside, you should also get the cabin filter swopped out and have a new one installed, so you could at least breathe cleaner air, since the previous owner, kept it in an appalling state. That whistling noise you're hearing when you turn on the aircon, could possibly be the compressor bearing, or one of the associated pulleys' on the the way out. Also, have the car fully inspected by a reputable company, especially one that specialises in Volvo cars, as they tend to be somewhat over engineered, which in my opinion, makes them really great cars, that way they could find any other faults with the car, that you might not discover right away and ends up putting you in further expense. Better to be safe than sorry. Otherwise, really great and solid car.

@@NathanMannin Very! Unique Yamaha V8 setup, reliable as anything too and sounds better than many v8’s. I travelled four hours to test drive one, a Polestar blue one. Loved it but I was 20 at the time and insurance said no.
I’d love to see some pulls from unsuspecting S3’s etc.

@@wd7525 I commend you for wanting such a unique car at such a young age! What made you want one of those at 20 years old as apposed to the generic hot hatch that most young drivers wanted?

@@NathanMannin no one has one. It’s very unique. At any time on Auto Trader, there’s maybe 2 for sale. Plus me and my Norwegian brother have always loved our Volvos growing up. They have their own character.
But this one… its V8 tone is different. I’d characterise it as calculated mayhem. I loved the test drive, such a shame I couldn’t buy it.
I will have one, just ticking off silly cars at the minute 🤣
*Hatch’s are great but they don’t have NA V8’s. No replacement for displacement

@@wd7525 It sounds like we share the exact same sentiment about not just Volvo’s, but cars in general! I am also trying to tick off all the weird and wonderful cars this world has to offer. The way the world is going, who knows how much time us car enthusiasts have left before the big V8’s will be too expensive to run! ☹️
That’s why I bought my C63, bought a Cayenne Turbo and now this Volvo S80 V8! These V8’s add so much theatre and character to the ownership experience!
I’ve always wanted to own a Volvo. When I found out the S80 V8 existed, it was inevitable I was going to buy one and I am not disappointed 😉😁

      @tariqtvproductions Год назад +1

@@NathanMannin yeah definitely. Clean it all up first for maximum impact. If you can use bit of airvidox car shampoo to clean the carpets (use a bit as you don't want to use too much otherwise it will saturate and won't dry in this cold weather). You can also use meguires multipurpose cleaner to clean all of the trim. Then once its prepped you can use the airvidox. BIG TIP wear gloves and a mask when you use the airvidox as if you smell it it's really horrible and hurts your nose. Good luck with it looking forward to seeing results 🙂
